Liberation - a saga of pain and war
Allies break through the gates
Not knowing what waits
Death and disease
The dyeing on their knees
Begging in a foreign plea
Wanting to be free
Living skeletal bodies
Glazed over eyes
They should've never listened to the lies
Prosecuted for living
Killed for not working
Death always lurking
Hair piled as high as the wall
Shoes littered on the floor
All this because of the late
Lives stolen
Swept away to Poland
So many lost
Such a high cost
For one man's ambitions
Soldiers in their uniform
Walking against the wind
Looking for their lost kin
Breaking free
Flying high
No longer tied...
To this earth
The found are welcomed
The lost are mourned
The makers have been warned
War is curse
That's why I am writing this verse
To tell you the truth
The greatness of war is a spoof
The greatest battle is the one inside
Because there is nowhere you can hide
When things get rough
You have to be tough
And at that moment when you feel alone
Remember all those who died on their own
In camps of death
::::
I wrote the poem 'Liberation' as extra credit in History following our study into the world war POW camps.
The poem was hastily written in less then an hour while the rest of my class watched a somewhat gruesome Second World War movie that made my stomach churn a little too much (also as I was one of the youngest in the class and a down right goody goody two shoes my little twelve year old mind thought it best not to watch the fifteen that the supply teacher was screening)
From this was birthed this one hundred and eighty five word poem on the POW camps.
