I'm woken up to the annoying sound of my alarm clock and I groan, slamming my hand on the snooze button. Just as I drift back off to sleep, I hear a loud knock on my door followed by it being opened.
"Feet on the floor, Natty" My mother warns me and I groan, pulling myself up.
She smiles at me warmly and I sleepily rub my eyes.
"Good morning, sweetheart" She says and I smile.
"Good morning, Momma" I hum.
She closes the door and I drag myself out of bed, padding over to my bathroom. I take a quick shower and dry myself off before curling my long brown locks and applying a little make up.
The outfit I decide on today is blue skinny jeans, a white squared neck top and a pair of white heeled boots that lace up at the front. I pair my outfit with a green teddy bear jacket and a couple pieces of jewellery which includes a charm bracelet my friend bought me a couple years back which has multiples charms on it that all mean something.
For example, there's a book charm due to the fact we met in a library, a lock and key to symbolise the secrets we keep for each other, a 'C' charm for her initial, a 'N' charm for my initial, a wolf charm which symbolises the fact she is a werewolf and a broomstick charm because I'm a witch.
yes, I'm a witch
After my outbreaks as a child, my father took me to see a bunch of specialists who just couldn't explain the reason for my behaviour at all. They all chalked it up to ADHD or Bipolar Disorder, which was completely wrong. I spent the next few years doped up on medication that wasn't right for me and eventually I exploded, literally.
My father and I had one of our many arguments and I let out a loud scream before angrily kicking the seat in front of me. Our car flipped in the middle of the road and just kept rolling until I stopped screaming. We got out the crash completely unharmed and my dad was in complete disbelief. It never happened again so we never spoke about it, I'm pretty sure he thinks he was imagining the whole thing and I can't blame him.
At age 12 I met a girl who told me that she knew what was going on with me and that she could help, so I let her. Cora taught me everything I know about the supernatural world and helped me learn to control my powers. Apparently there are bloodlines of powerful witches from back in Salem that flocked to Beacon Hills in search of shelter and they settled in, masking their magic from others to fit in. Every so often the ancestors will bless one of their offspring with their gifts and I happened to make the cut.
you may be thinking, does your brother know about you being a witch? no, he doesn't and I intent to keep it that way. I don't want my brother involved in the supernatural, I don't want any of my family or friends to be involved.
I stand in front of my mirror and with a proud smirk, my eyes flash a bright pink colour before fading back to their original brown. My door swings open and I spin around to see Scott.
"Ready to go, Natty?" He asks curiously and I nod, grabbing my white backpack.
"Let's go, Scotty" I chirp, skipping past him.
We pass our mother who tells us to have a good day and we tell her the same back before heading outside. I hop onto Scott's dirt bike behind him and wrap my arms around him tightly. He revs the engine before whizzing off towards the school and I smile, loving the feeling of the wind blowing through my hair.
The bike pulls up outside Beacon Hills High School and I throw my leg over the bike, taking in my surroundings excitedly as I make my way towards the entrance.
"Those heels are killer. Where'd you get them?" I hear a voice ask and I turn to see a strawberry blonde haired girl smiling at me, a brunette girl stood next to her.
"A little boutique in San Francisco called 'Lorna's'. If you're ever in the area then I definitely recommend checking it out" I answer, seeing Scott from the corner of my eye.
"You want me to take you to the office, Natty?" My brother asks me, Stiles by his side.
I open my mouth to speak but the strawberry blonde haired girl speaks up.
"Natty as in Natalia?" She asks in shock and I nod slowly before realising exactly who this girl is.
"Lydia Martin?!" I shriek and she nods quickly.
I pull her into a hug and she giggles, hugging me tightly.
"I can't believe you're finally back" She states, holding me out at arms length.
"It's been too long, Lyds" I sigh and she nods in agreement.
I quickly realise the brunette looking down at her feet and I turn to her.
"Hey, I'm Natalia McCall but you can call me Nat" I smile warmly.
"Allison Argent" She smiles in return and my blood runs cold, my body freezing up.
"A-Argent?" I stutter, ignoring the weird looks from Lydia and the boys.
"Yeah. Is something wrong?" She frowns in confusion and I gulp, shaking my head.
"No, everything's fine" I assure her, pasting on a smile "You dated my brother, right?"
Scott elbows me and she awkwardly nods, making me wince.
"Too soon? Sorry, guys" I shrug before looking at the others "Where can I find Isaac Lahey?"
Scott and Stiles share a look before Scott clears his throat.
"Isaac's out of town for a while, family issues" He tells me, but something tells me that he's lying.
"Is he okay?" I ask in concern.
"Yeah, all good" Stiles assures me.
"Nat, why don't I show you to the office?" Lydia speaks up and the boys eagerly nod, making me frown in confusion.
what the hell is going on here?
I say goodbye to the boys before following Lydia and Allison into the school. We collect my timetable before heading to my new locker where I dump most of my things before slamming it closed.
"Freshmen" Lydia announces "Tons and tons of fresh men"
"You mean fresh boys" Allison and I say in unison, smiling at each other.
maybe she's not a hunter
"Lydia, they're 14" Allison states.
"Eh, some are more mature than others" Lydia argues.
"You know, it's okay to be single. Focus on yourself for a little while, work on becoming a better person" Allison tells the strawberry blonde.
"Allison, I love you. So if you need to do that thing where we talk about me and pretend like we're not actually talking about you, it's totally fine" Lydia explains and I grimace "But I don't want a boyfriend. I want a distraction"
Just as she says that, two boys walk in through the doors clad in leather jackets, holding motorcycle helmets.
"Brothers?" Allison guesses.
"Twins" I correct her with a grin.
As they pass, one of them winks at me and I turn to the girls who grin in amusement. Lydia poking my side playfully while Allison throws her arm around my shoulder.
The bell rings loudly and we head to English, a class we all have together. Lydia sits down beside a certain brown eyed Stilinski boy and I take the seat in front of him, turning to greet him.
"Hey, dork" I chirp.
"Hey, Nat" He smiles, sitting up straight.
Allison awkwardly stands, realising the only available seat is in front of my brother, something I can imagine is incredibly awkward for them both. She then pads over and looks down at him.
"Is someone.." She drawls off, pointing at the seat.
"No. No, no, no, no. No, it's all you, all yours. Uh, it's totally vacant" Scott rambles, making me laugh.
"Smooth, Scotty" I tease him as Stiles shoots him a sarcastic thumbs up.
Everyone's phone suddenly goes off and I pull mine out my pocket, seeing a text from an unknown number.
"The offing was barred by a black bank of clouds and the tranquil waterway, leading to the uttermost ends of the earth flowed somber under an overcast sky, seemed to lead into the heart of an immense darkness" A woman dramatically reads out the text as she enters the room "This is the last line to the first book we are going to read. It is also the last text you will receive in this class. Phones off, everyone"
I turn my phone off and shove it in my pocket, ignoring the weird feeling I get due to the presence of this woman.
Halfway through class, the principal enters and whispers something to Miss Blake, the both of them staring at my brother.
"Mr McCall?" Miss Blake speaks up before using her pointer finger to beckon him forward.
He follows her out the class and she returns without him, making me turn to Stiles in confusion. The boy shrugs and I turn my attention back to the teacher.
"Hey, Lydia?" I hear Stiles whisper behind me "What is that? Is that from the accident?"
accident?
"No. Prada bit me" Lydia answers.
"Your dog?" Stiles asks.
"No, my designer handbag" She says sarcastically before adding "Yes, my dog" as if Stiles is stupid and I smother a laugh.
"Has it ever bitten you before?" He asks her curiously and she shakes her head 'no' "Okay. What if it's, like, the same thing as the deer? You know, like, how animals start acting weird right before an earthquake or something?"
"Meaning what? There's gonna be an earthquake?" Lydia scoffs.
"Or something!" Stiles hisses "Maybe it means something's coming. Something bad"
"It was a deer and a dog" Lydia replies "What's that thing you say about threes? Once, twice-"
She's cut off when a bird flies right into the window, leaving behind a splatter of blood.
"Three is a pattern" I whisper in awe, my hand itching to grab my phone so that I can try my best friend's number again.
All of a sudden, hundreds of birds start flying at the window and the glass smashes, letting the birds inside.
"Get down, everyone!" Miss Blake screams and I'm yanked off my chair.
Stiles wraps his arms around me and I cling onto him as birds claw at us, squawking loudly.
The noise eventually dies down and I poke my head up to firstly see Allison and Lydia huddled together, then that the birds are all dead or gone. Stiles and I pull apart awkwardly and I stand up, looking around in complete disbelief.
