The Powerful Truth
So I have decided to put the writing essay that I have submitted earlier to a contest I have signed up here and see what you guys think about it. Honestly proud in what I wrote but still a little nervous for the outcome but I'm confident in myself and what I wrote.
But nonetheless, here is my submitting piece.
_______________
I lived in a world where I thought everything was completely normal. Everyone lived happily amongst one another, there was no type of threat in this world. That is until I find out something I don't believe I should have found out. Hiding out from people that are trying to kill you from knowing the truth is quite scary. You don't know when they can sneak up on you when you're trying to turn a corner and hide from them all over again. As I went to turn the corner, a blinding light flashes over me causing me to shield my eyes and try to keep walking to the source but a strong force takes hold of me, making everything go black.
I started to hear voices around me but I didn't dare open my eyes, scared to know where I was. Slowly yet surely, I opened my eyes and squinted slightly as I looked around the room I was in. I tried to get up but something was holding me down by my wrists. I looked down and saw that I was cuffed to a small chain that hangs from the wall next to me.
"That's just great," I mumbled as I leaned my head back on the bricked wall and closed my eyes. A groan leaves my lips as I figured I was going to be in here for a while waiting for whoever they're going send in here to ask me questions. I started to softly hit my head against the wall and I started to count numbers in my head as I waited. And let me tell you I waited for what felt like ages until the door's handle started to jiggle slightly. I lifted my head in time to see the door open and someone step into the door.
"Hello Ms. James, I'm Doctor Henderson," The man says as he flashes me a small smile while taking a seat in the chair that I didn't notice in the corner of the small room.
I keep quiet as I narrowed my eyes at the man and kept my gaze on him as he moved around the room.
"You don't speak much do you?" He says with a small smile as a chuckle left his lips.
I rolled my eyes as I shake my head and turned my head the other way. He chuckles at my stubbornness as he looks through a set of files.
"Ah, here it is." He said as he pulled out a file with a large smile on his face. "Esmeralda Marie James. Age sixteen, height; 5'1. And is the only person that knows our most kept secret." He says as he reads over the file with a look on his face that only sent shivers down my spine.
I looked at the floor trying to come up with a plan on how to get out of here. I concentrated on the crack that presented itself on the concrete floor, only to fell the presence of someone in front of me that causes me to frown my brows slightly but still not give in and look at the presence.
A deep sigh is heard in the room before the presence moves closer towards me and takes hold of my face rather aggressively. "How did you find out about our secret?" Henderson says as his all nice exterior melts away and shows someone completely different.
"Why should I tell you on how I find out about your precious secret?" I said as I looked at him dead in the eyes.
He chuckles darkly as he closes his eyes as if he's trying to suppress his anger down. "I heard from the guards you knew how to get under people skin and see now what they are talking about," Henderson says as he smiles at me wickedly which only causes more shiver to go down my spine.
"How do you know our secret?" Henderson asks once again as he lets go of my face while taking a step back from me. He observes me from afar as if he's waiting for me to snap under pressure any time soon but I'm not going to let that happen.
I look at him with a deadpan look as I tilt my head upward slightly as if saying to him 'what are you going to do about it?'
Before I knew it, the man strides towards me in a blink of an eye and takes hold a fist of my hair into his fist, gripping tightly causing me to see black spots in my vision from how tight he is holding onto my hair.
From his tight grip, he pulls my head back forcefully causing me to look at him with narrowed eyes. "I'm losing my patience with you, little one." He says through gritted teeth while looking down at me with a way beyond an angry look. "I won't ask again --- how do you know about our secret?" He sneers.
I wince when he pulls my head back when I don't respond to him. I huff in annoyance as I think of a response to give to the angered doctor. "Look Doc, you're system isn't that hard to hack into --- but the "top secret" file I saw really left me flabbergasted, I'll give you that," I said as I gave him a somewhat reassuring nod considering I couldn't completely nod my head with his hand still holding tightly to my hair.
We stay silent as we looked at one another, waiting to see who will speak up first. Sensing that I won't be speaking anymore, he lets go of my hair roughly and walks away back to his desk as he runs a hand down his face.
"This is bloody annoying," He mutters out as he takes a sit on his chair while placing his elbows on the desk as he leans his head in his hands.
After a while of silence - once again - he looks up at me with an unimpressionable look. "Do you even know the truth, Ms. James?" He questions me in a low voice.
I roll my eyes as I looked at the man with the same look on his face. "Of course I do," I said as I lifted the corner of my lips upward slightly.
Henderson abruptly stands up, causing the chair he was sitting on to hit against the wall and fall to the floor. He then storms his way over and takes hold of my jaw aggressively. "THEN WHY ARE YOU NOT TELLING ME WHAT YOU KNOW!?" He screams in my face.
I look at him in anger as I feel my blood begin to boil underneath my skin, but I keep my cool keeping in mind if I let my anger take over things wouldn't end well for me knowing what the people in here do. "I'm not telling you because I like seeing you on the edge of things," I said with another smirk knowing it's only pissing him off even more.
"I think you'd rather answer to me than the boss," He says as a smirk of his own starts to grow on his face. "He isn't the best at holding his anger back as I can, little one." He says as his smirks only grew even more as he saw my face fall in fear at the mention of his boss.
I look at him hoping he was only joking about that he's willing to bring his boss in here just to get answers out of me. But the smirk on his face tells me that he wasn't joking in any way.
Before I could even properly think it through, I blurt my biggest regret yet. "Then bring him in," I said as I looked at Henderson with a confident front but deep down I knew I was screwed and it only made me shake in fear inside.
Henderson let's go of my face with a wicked look on his face as he makes his way towards the door. He opens the door and says something to the guard outside before closing the door with a wide smile. "Oh how you're going to regret this," He says as he picks up the chair and sat on it, leaning back with his hands resting behind his head.
"I'd wipe that smile off your face before someone comes over and punches it into your face," I mumble as I looked at the floor with an agitated look on my face.
His eyebrows frown in anger as he leans forward ready to do something to me but gets cut short when the door swings open to see an intimidating man burst into the room.
"Mr. James," Henderson says as he clasps his hands behind his back while gulping slightly with wide eyes.
"Doctor Henderson," Mr. James says as he looks at him then turning his gaze at me. "You must be the young lady that knows about my secret," He says as he looks down at me with a knowing look.
"She won't tell you ---"
"Silence! Tell me what you know?" Mr. James says to Henderson before he looks down at me with a curious look.
"Your secret?" I said as I chuckled as I licked my lips. "Your secret, Mr. James is that I'm your daughter that you cast away."
