saving liam

While they had both fully planned on going home with their families, Ryder and Austin ended up at Scott's place of work with Brett writhing underneath their hands as they did what they could to keep him still.

"What the hell is happening to this kid?" Stiles asked, grunting as he was shoved a bit.

"He's been poisoned by a rare wolfsbane. I need to make an incision and you need to hold him as still as possible." Deaton said, keeping a distance as they struggled to keep Brett down.

"Hey, Derek, how about a little werewolf strength?"

Derek eyed Stiles, "Yeah, I'm not the only one here with werewolf strength."

Ryder looked at Derek oddly, wondering why he suddenly got so hostile. She then noticed that a small scratch on his hand that Brett had given him hadn't healed yet. She was curious, yes, but didn't say anything.

"If you can't hold him still, the incision might kill him."

"Yeah, we're trying." Ryder huffed.

"Derek, he's slipping." Stiles called out, "I don't think I can hold him."

Just in time for Brett to jump up and shove everyone off of him, Ryder had managed to snatch Austin out of the way before he could possibly get hurt.

Brett made an immediate run for the exit, Austin almost thought they would have to chase him down. Thankfully, Peter appeared in the doorway, knocking the Talbot teen out cold.

"I guess I still have a little werewolf strength myself." He smiled cockily. Ryder scoffed, shaking her head as Derek spoke,

"Yeah, maybe more than a little."

"Hi, Ryder." Peter smiled.

The man had been trying to get in contact with the girl for a while now, seemingly trying to tell her some very valuable information, but Ryder didn't want to hear it. The second she got a text from an unknown number, she instantly blocked them.

To a normal person, they wouldn't have known it was Peter texting her, but Ryder knew he was the only person that used his punctuation incorrectly and then sent a text complaining about it.

She narrowed her eyes, "Peter."

Stiles knelt down by Brett's body, "Hey, Doc, I don't think he's breathing. Is he okay?"

"I think he'll be fine, but probably out for a while." Deaton said, earning sighs of relief from the few that were convinced they just witnessed a death. 'The few' being Austin.

"Guys, can you hear that? I think he's saying something."

The movements of Brett's lips were hardly noticeable able, but it was clear he was mumbling something under his breath.

"The sun... The moon... The truth..." Brett repeated.

"The sun, the moon, the truth." Ryder frowned, "What the hell does that mean?"

"Three things cannot long be hidden. The sun, the moon, and the truth. It's Buddhist."

Peter hummed thoughtfully, "Satomi."

Austin hummed softly as Ryder pulled away, leaning down so her lips made contact with his neck.

Their timing was ridiculously bad, but the couple hadn't necessarily blown everyone off to get where they are right now. No pun intended.

It kind of just happened.

While they should have been at school, Ryder and Austin stayed home to 'look after' Ramona to ensure that the woman wouldn't have the same fate as Brett.

That quickly changed as the two ended up home alone. They may or may not have gotten side tracked with other things while they waited for Ramona and Aaron to get home from an appointment.

His hands pawed at her waist as she rolled her hips, her cold hands making contact with his abdomen as she lifted his shirt, slightly scratching at his abs as his head tilted back.

Austin groaned, this time in annoyance as Ryder's phone rang. He pulled her in closer, muttering to himself as he began kissing at her neck, rolling his eyes as the markings he left slowly healed before his eyes.

Ryder's suddenly pulling away from him in a panic, "Oh, shit."

"What's wrong?"

"Liam's missing."

Austin dropped his shoulders as Ryder got off his lap, leaning down to toss his shirt at him.

As he put the clothing back on, he mumbled curses under his breath.

And finally, for the first time since he's met the Dunbar, Austin was officially annoyed with him.

•••

Ryder, Austin and Josie trailed through the woods, all teens feeling very different emotions at the moment.

Josie felt pure fear and nervousness from the anonymous call she received about Liam's disappearance. It didn't take long for her to figure out that the voice belonged to the same person that tried to kill him in the first place.

Garrett playing the whole 'i want to be mysterious while i kill your friends' role wasn't really doing it for him and it only made her all the more irritated to come in contact with him again.

Austin was rather frustrated and anxious. His frustration having nothing to do with his anxiousness, he was just worried that if they found Liam, he wouldn't be in the same state they last saw him in.

He prayed to God that the kid wasn't dead.

Meanwhile, Ryder had an aura of determination surrounding her. She was fully focused on finding Liam. She knew how much the Dunbar already meant to her sister and boyfriend.

She knew that Josie would be heartbroken if her new found crush was found with a lack of beating heart.

And she was aware that Austin was forming a bond with him. She thought it was simply a younger and older friend thing they had going on, but realized that in their short amount of time knowing each other, there was no doubt that Austin saw Liam as a little brother.

Which is why she refused to let him lose a second brother at the hands of someone's stupidity.

She already knew that Scott had set on a search for his beta. Scott wouldn't just allow someone to die, especially after holding a guilt for bringing the boy into the situation. She was convinced that she, Austin and Josie would eventually run into him and whoever he brought with him.

"Help! Is anybody there? Somebody help me, please." A voice called out.

"That's Liam!" Josie took off.

"Josephine!" Ryder shouted, quickly following after the girl with Austin in tow.

Ryder grunted as a body slammed into hers. She was prepared to yell at whoever body slammed into her, only to find herself sighing in relief at the sight of Scott.

"I'm so sorry. Are you okay?"

"I'm fine." She brushed him off, leading him and Austin in the direction of her sister and Liam's scents, "Come on."

As they ran, Scott sped up quickly at the sight of Josie leant over a well, slowly getting pulled down, Liam's cries of help filling his ears.

Ryder quickly caught her sister before she could fall in, Scott grasping Liam's forearm before he could fall back, grunting as Austin leant down to help.

Liam fell back against the two teens, panting heavily as he instinctively curled into their embrace.

Ryder looked over at Liam, nodding softly as he looked over at her with teary eyes.

Thank God himself that everyone was okay.
