helping liam
long chapter ahead (kinda)!!

Josie stood outside with Mason, the two having been waiting for Liam to show up to school.
Josie was aware that Scott had bit Liam to save his life, but that didn't make her any less annoyed.
Of course, the one person she grew to have a crush on would somehow end up involved in the supernatural. She thought she would only have to deal with Ryder, her mom and Ryder friends, but it appeared that God was testing her to see if she actually liked Liam and not just his looks.
That would be tested soon enough as tonight was a full moon and she prayed Liam wouldn't try and kill her or anyone she cared about. She truly did like him and she didn't want to have to drop him because he couldn't keep his fangs in.
Panting caught her attention, forcing her eyes away from the ground as Mason greeted the out of breath teen in front of them,
"Hey. Liam, why weren't you on the bus?"
Liam huffed, "I ran."
Josie raised her brow, not believing him for a second, "You ran three miles to school?" It was clear that he ran but to just start running was a bit weird. Especially at eight am.
"Yeah. I just started running." He let out a breath.
Josie hummed thoughtfully, immediately noticing how he wouldn't make eye contact with her.
"So I guess your leg's okay?" Mason frowned, taking note of the new bandage that wasn't there before, "What happened to your arm?"
Liam began to breathe heavily, confusing and scaring both his friends. Josie instinctively reached for her phone that was in her back pocket, fully prepared to text Ryder that something was wrong.
"Dude, are you okay?" Mason pushed.
Liam looked over Mason's shoulder, backing away a bit, "I'll talk to you later. I-I gotta get to class."
"I-wait! We have the same class..." She trailed off, "I'll see you later, Mason."
"Okay! Text me!"
His words fell deaf to her ears as she followed behind Liam,
"Liam!"
A second voice blocked out her own, "Liam, hey!"
She turned to see Scott and Stiles cornering the Dunbar.
"What are you guys doing?"
"We need to talk to him." Scott said.
"No, you need to back the hell up, okay?" Liam snapped, reaching for Josie's wrist to pull her behind him, "Both of you."
"Can you just listen for one second. Please?" Scott practically begged. The blue eyed teen gestured harshly for him to spit it out, his guard still up and his grip on Josie's wrist growing tighter by the second. It was clear he didn't notice, but Scott did.
"Liam..." He started, "We're brothers now."
Liam scoffed in disbelief, "What?"
Josie inhaled softy, dropping her head so she wouldn't have to look at them.
"Oh, God. That's..."
"What are you talking about? We just met and you bit me." The Dunbar snapped.
"The bite... The bite is a gift."
"Scott, stop. Please stop." Stiles waved his hands around, "You, you, we're trying to help you, you little runt.
"By kidnapping me?"
Stiles raised a hand to stop him, "Just to clarify, Scott kidnapped you. Okay? I aided and abetted."
"That doesn't make you any better. I thought your dad was a cop. You should know that aiding and abetting is a crime. You were an accomplice, dumbass." Josie defended Liam.
Stiles' mouth dropped at her sassy tone, "Wha—"
"Liam, I've gone through this before. Something's happening to you. Something big." Scott said.
"Nothing's happening to me. Nothing." Just then, Liam ripped his bandage off to prove his point. And just as he said, there was not a single mark on his skin.
•••
"Liam!"
The teen groaned, "I said—"
"That nothings happening to you? Yeah, I heard." Austin chuckled, "You were pretty loud."
"Are you here to kidnap me and then give me some stupid excuse about how we're brothers too?"
"Well...no." He hesitated, "But I am here to hopefully give you a little help."
"I don't—"
"I won't say anything." Austin put his hands up to show he meant no harm. He then slowly reached into his backpack, pulling out a five star notebook.
Liam could easily tell the book had been written in. There were sticky notes poking out from the top and on the cover he could fairly make out the scratched out words,
Ryder's special book
The Dunbar was confused. In his mind, Austin was giving him a book he stole from his girlfriend. Why? He didn't know. But he couldn't stop himself from wanting to take it. Austin's approach was a lot more gentle than Scott and Stiles. He had yet to try and chomp his arm off so that seemed like a good sign.
"Read it, don't read it. It helped me, like a lot, it might do the same for you."
With that, Austin left the freshman to stare at the book, flinching as the bell rang.
Liam, huffed, tucking the book under his arm as he made his way to class.
•••
Ryder, Josie and Austin stood outside behind a school bus with Malia, Lydia, Kira, Scott and Stiles.
The group was discussing what they should do to help Liam.
"I'm not sharing my basement."
"Actually, it's my basement." Lydia corrected Malia, "And my mom noticed how you tore it up last time."
Stiles felt the need to defend his girlfriend, "All right, she's still learning."
"Clearly." Ryder mumbled, eyeing the way Malia's hands clenched into a fist.
"But, we're going to use the boathouse for Liam. It's got support beams. We can chain him to one of them." Scott said.
"Chain him up like a dog." Ryder shook her head, "That didn't work out very well when it was you, Scott. Liam seems a lot more upset. I'm sure anger conquers lust. The chains won't last."
"We can still try."
"Okay." Ryder didn't want to argue, "You've been warned."
"But how do we get him out to the lake house if he doesn't trust us?" Kira asked.
"I say if it keeps him from murdering someone we chloroform the little bastard and throw him in the lake." Stiles suggested, earning eye rolls from the only pair of siblings in the group.
"No."
Malia rose a hand, "I'm in."
"We're not killing or kidnapping him." Scott said.
"I agree." Austin spoke up.
"Then let's be smarter." Lydia started, "We tell him there's a party and invite him."
"So, you're going to ask out a freshman?" Stiles turned to her.
"No, I'm done with teenage boys. But, if we're playing a trick on someone, we'll have to use the trickster." All eyes traveled to the Yukimura girl that spluttered in response,
"Who? Me? No way. Not me."
"Yes, you. You know what they call a female fox? A vixen."
"Me?" She pointed to herself.
Lydia began to encourage her, "You can do it, Kira. Be a vixen."
"Maybe I don't have to be a vixen." Kira suddenly blurted out.
"What?"
"Josie. We have Josie, who is of age and, you know, available..."
The girl in question straightened up, "What?"
"No." Ryder scoffed.
"Ryder—"
"You're not prostituting my sister."
"It's not prostitution." Stiles waved a hand, bringing it down to pat the girls shoulder only to get shoved away by Austin. The Stilinski swallowed as he noticed the glare the George teen gave him, "None of us are getting paid."
"Don't be an asshole." Austin told him, his eyes burning holes into the side of Stiles' face as the Stilinski refused to look at him.
"Think of it as playing matchmaker."
"I don't want to play matchmaker. He makes me nervous. What if I stutter? What if I fall?" She let out a loud gasp, "What if I gleek?"
"Gleek?" The older teens frowned in unison.
"What if i spit on him?" Josie exaggerated.
"Just...don't?"
"Think about it like this..." Lydia started, "If all goes well, maybe he won't completely hate you for luring him into a trap and you'll live happily ever after."
"That doesn't help one bit."
•••
Josie walked down the stairs, her heart pounding in her chest as her brown eyes locked with Liam's blue ones. She was so entranced that she lost her footing, tripping over air.
She let out a squeak, bracing for impact, only for her to feel herself land in someone's arm rather than face planting in the middle of the hall.
"Are you okay?"
"I'm okay!" Liam blinked at her loud voice. Seemingly noticing this, Josie spoke softer, "Yeah. Fine. You want to go to a party tonight?"
"Me?" He pointed to himself as she pulled away from him.
"Yes, you. Not Mason, Mason's gay." She glanced over to the Hewitt teen, "Hi, Mason."
"Hey."
From down the hall, Ryder shook her head in second hand embarrassment, muttering to herself, "God, save us all."
"Uh- yeah, sure." Liam answered her previous question.
Josie's mouth dropped, "I don't have a car."
"Neither do I." He cleared his throat.
"I'll figure something out." She spoke quickly, "Um...I'll see you later. Bye!"
Liam raised a hand to wave at her, barely getting a word out before she was already halfway down the hall, "Bye?"
•••
Ryder pocketed her phone as she spoke, "Josie says they're close. Like two minutes away."
Kira had offered to be a pretend chauffeur for Liam and Josie for the 'party'. It worked in everyone's favor, though Ryder was a bit iffy with the idea of leaving a new werewolf alone in the car with a human and Kira, who hadn't gained full control of her powers.
"Good." Austin nodded, leaning back against the wall, "I gave him the book."
"The book? What book?"
His face grew red, "The one I made when you first became a werewolf. It helped me know what I should except and what I should and shouldn't do."
Ryder knew very well what the book was, she had helped him add a couple things every once in a while. It's been quite a long time since she's seen it. Considering Austin was pretty much a pro, she kind of just assumed he threw it away. Oddly enough, it made her heart swell knowing that he still had it.
"And you gave it to Liam?"
"I figured he could use more than me." Austin shrugged, "I think i've got everything about you memorized by now."
"Don't brag." She shook her head with a smile.
"Not bragging." He rose his hands up in defense before he let them fall to her waist, "Just telling you the truth."
He leant down to peck her lips, humming as headlights could be seen from the window.
Grabbing her hand, Austin led her to stand between himself and Malia. The group waited impatiently as the door finally opened,
"What the hell is this?" Liam said, voice filled with anger as he looked to Josie and Kira for an explanation.
"Sorry." The younger girl muttered, moving so she was in front of Ryder and Austin.
"Think of it like an intervention . You have a problem, Liam." Stiles said.
"And we're the only ones that can help."
•••
"Werewolf?" Scott nodded.
"Werecoyote."
"Banshee." Lydia raised a finger, a silent way of telling him that he was right.
Liam then pointed to Kira, "Fox?"
"Kitsune. But fox works." The raven haired girl told him.
"And you?" He looked at Ryder, "A fully turning werewolf."
"At least make it sound like it's cool." The Miller girl scoffed.
Liam huffed, "What are you?"
"I'm human." Austin smiled politely, looking at Stiles for his turn to speak,
"Uh, for a little while, I was possessed by an evil spirit. It was very evil."
"What are you now?"
Stiles hesitated, "Better? Um..."
The chains on the ground caught his attention, "Are those for me?"
Malia flashed her eyes, "No, they're for me."
"Show off." Josie muttered.
Liam stepped back in shock, "How did you do that?"
"You'll learn. But first, you need to get through the full moon." Scott explained.
"The moon's already out."
"And you're starting to feel something, aren't you?"
"I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of psychotic nutjobs. You guys are out of your freaking minds. I don't know how you did that eye thing and I don't care. I'm walking out the door right now! If any of you try to stop me, I swear to God, I'm gonna—" Liam cut himself off with a groan, his hands flying to his ears as he shouted in pain.
"That's what you get, smart ass." Ryder mumbled under her breath, making quick work to put Austin and Josie behind her.
"What's wrong? Liam?" Scott asked in urgency.
"You don't hear that?" He grunted.
Lydia looked out the window, sighing as she saw cars beginning to pull into the driveway, "Did you tell someone about this?"
"My friend Mason."
"Like, Mason Mason? The Mason that can't keep his mouth shut about anything?" Ryder asked him.
Liam looked at Josie, "Josie said it was a party."
"Who did Mason invite?"
"Everyone."
Liam began to claw at the floor, sending Lydia into a frenzy,
"The floors! Get him off the floors!"
"Screw your floors!" Austin snapped, "We need to get him out of here."
"We need to get him to the boathouse. Now!" Scott and Kira each took an arm of Liam's doing their best to pull him out the back. The teen stopped, however, looking back,
"I want Austin to come."
"Liam, we don't have time for this—"
He cut Scott off, "Please."
Austin looked at the Dunbar with soft eyes, turning back to Ryder,
"Be careful." Ryder mumbled to her boyfriend, leaning down to grab Malia's bag as the girl began to stumble back.
Austin nodded, rushing to open the back door, leading them out.
"Guys."
Stiles turned, "Yeah?"
Malia roared in his face, startling the teen a bit.
"Where's—?"
"She already in the basement." Josie cut him off, "Hurry up!"
"Okay, come on."
Lydia stopped him quickly, "What am I supposed to do with the hordes gathering outside the door?"
"Lydia, who throws the best parties in Beacon Hills?"
The Martin seemed offended that he would even ask that, "What? Me, obviously."
"Okay, then throw a party."
"What—?"
Ryder's loud voice suddenly echoed from downstairs,
"Josephine, help her!"
•••
"Too tight?"
"Tighter." Malia said, tugging on the chains to make sure she could escape, "You guys can leave if you want."
"I'm not going anywhere. And to be honest, I'm probably safer down here than in a party with fifty freshmen and a very pissed off Lydia."
Malia looked at Ryder for her reasoning,
"I just don't feel like going out there." Ryder said, "It was either help you, or listen to Scott and Kira's pathetic excuse of flirting."
The Tate couldn't help but chuckle at that, "They are pretty bad, aren't they?"
"Oh, the worst."
Stiles couldn't help the frown that formed on his face as he watched them laugh. It made him feel worse knowing what secret he kept.
•••
"He looks so young." Kira pointed out as she looked at Liam's limp body.
"He is. He's only fifteen." Scott said.
"What are we going to do with him?"
The McCall cleared his throat, "We're going to help him."
"What if he doesn't want our help?" Kira asked.
"He will."
"You think." Austin said, his eyes not leaving the unconscious teen. "You guys haven't given him the best impression."
"He trusts you. You'll help, right?" Scott asked him.
"If I do..." The George teen started, blue eyes examining the twitch in Liam's brows, "I wouldn't be doing it for you."
•••
Ryder made herself comfortable in a corner of the room, her arms resting on her knees as her head tilted back towards the ceiling.
"Guys, please go."
"It's okay. I hate parties. It's a social anxiety thing. You ever had a panic attack?"
"I don't think you're helping."
Malia let out a broken sob, "I'm having one now."
"Just breathe, okay. I'm not going to leave you." Stiles spoke in a gentle tone.
"What if I hurt you?"
Stiles insisted, "You're not going to."
"But I want to. Uh! I look at your face and I want to slash at it. I want to tear at it. I want to feel your bones crack between my hands."
"That's deep." Ryder nodded to herself.
"Surprisingly enough, you're not the first person to ever say something like that."
"I'm not leaving you. And I'm not going to let you hurt anyone."
"Not hurt me, sure. But if she breaks loose then you're on your own." Ryder tried to make the situation seem less tense.
Her words didn't help.
"Ah! You're not going to have a choice."
"Come on, Malia." Ryder whispered under her breath in hopes that the girl would hear her. She had only taken this job to make sure the were coyote wouldn't try and kill Stiles, but now more than ever she only prayed that Malia would finally gain control.
"Okay, Malia, I know you can hear me. Just listen to my voice." Stiles told her.
Malia's voice came out deep as she growled, "Listen to mine. Run!"
"I'm not going to run. Because I don't think you're going to hurt me. And I think maybe you're so afraid of hurting me because of what you did to your family. I know what that's like. I remember everything I did. And the worst part is I remember liking it. Because I felt powerful. I felt fearless. And most of all, in control. But when I came through it, I learned something else... Control is overrated."
From the corner of the room, Ryder held a small smile on her face as she watched Malia growl softly, her claws slowly but surely going away.
Stiles couldn't help but flinch as she pulled at her chains, soon relaxing as she collapsed on his chest, "You did it."
"I did it." Malia mumbled, her eyes traveling to the redhead who looked a little too much like a proud mother, "Ryder, I did it."
She chuckled, "I'm proud of you. Now can we get out of here? It smells like shit."
•••
Austin let out a noise of shock as a body rammed into his.
He looked down at the blonde boy in front of him, "Sorry."
"Don't worry about. I'm Garrett." He smiled.
"Nice to meet you." Austin nodded, "I need to go, sorry again."
Brushing past the teen, Austin stumbled through the house, having to pull at least two drunk freshman off of him. He was unaware of the glare that followed him as he pushed through the crowd.
"We're all good down here!" He heard Ryder shout, he assumed she caught his scent, otherwise she wouldn't have said anything.
Just as he suspected, the girl he grew to love appeared from around the corner with a smile on her face, Malia and Stiles behind her.
"How's Liam?"
"He ran away, Scott told me come make sure you guys were okay." He lead them out of the room, "Also, Argent's back."
"Really?"
"Yeah, he almost shot me." Upon seeing the narrow eyed look his words got from Ryder, he immediately backtracked with a smile, "I'm only kidding."
•••
From inside a soundproof room in Lydia's lake house, Kira bent down to see the computer that began to beep, random words covering the screen, "What is this?"
"It's a list of supernaturals in Beacon Hills. It's a dead pool. And we're all on it."
