be that guy

"What the hell are you doing?"
The three teens jumped in fear at the unexpected voice, their tense shoulders dropping at the sight of a familiar face.
"What are you doing here?"
Isaac huffed, "Your sister sent me to stop you guys from doing something that would get you hurt. Obviously, i'm a little late seeing as you're about to break into a place that's quite clearly covered by 'Sheriff's Line Do Not Cross' tape. Are you guys blind or do you just not care?"
"We're looking for our friend." Josie tried to reason with him, "She's been missing for a while."
"Yeah, I don't think you're going to find her in there."
Liam huffed, "Look, are you going to help, or not?"
"Not." He instantly answered, "Ryder and Austin want you guys safe. And after you both literally getting kidnapped, I'd say that breaking into school without supervision is being far from safe."
"He's not wrong."
"Mason—"
"It'll be quick, Isaac, I promise." Josie told him, hoping that his soft spot for her sister would help her, "You won't even have to tell Ry you failed your mission of getting us home."
"It's a not a mission." He mocked her.
'Then what is it?" Liam asked.
Isaac glared at the much shorter teen before he scoffed,
"Whatever. You've got five minutes."
•••
"Do you even know what you're looking at?"
Isaac's bored voice echoed throughout the library as he sat in a chair while Liam, Josie and Mason flipped through the pages of a large book the Hewitt boy picked up.
As if answering his question, Mason spoke, "You see these. These are Ley Lines. They're mapped according to telluric currents."
"Stiles said that he and Lydia were looking at the interscetions."
Josie ran her fingers aalong the page, "This one?"
"But the never found it." Liam added on, "They kept going out there to look, but they said that Nemeton has to want to be found."
"It's a supernatural tree that has to want to be found in order for you to see it?" Mason spoke out in amazement.
"Yeah."
"That's awesome."
Isaac broke into their conversation, "Why do you want to find it again?"
Josie refrained from rolling her eyes, knowing that the Lahey could drag them all out one by one if he really wanted to. But instead, he was giving them their five minutes to 'hurry up before Ryder calls and asks where they are'. So, she chose to be nice, "Our friend is missing."
"Right..." He nodded, "And instead of waiting for everything to settle down and get more help to find her, you three are gonna risk possible death to find someone you've only met this year."
"That's not true. I knew her." Liam said, earning a look of agreement from Mason.
"And is this the same girl you sucker punched your sixth grade year when she walked in the middle of your fight?"
"I'm trying to make it up to her." He defended himself.
Isaac casted a glance at Mason, "And you're just here for moral support, I assume. What about you, Jo?"
"What about me?"
"Listen, I hate to be that guy but i'll be that guy because Scott and Austin aren't here." He sat up in his seat, "With everything that's going on, the last thing any of us need is another situation where you two are taken hostage because you wanted to play hero."
"Isaac—"
"You guys aren't Scott, okay? You can't save everyone and think you're gonna make it out alive every time. One of you is going to get seriously hurt. And then what?"
His question was left unanswered. Just as he thought.
He looked between them, "Your five minutes are up."
With that, he ripped the page out the book, standing up from his seat and walking towards the exit, "Let's go."
•••
"There was a call a few hours ago about a sophomore from Beacon High who never came home last night."
"What's his name?" Scott asked.
"Noah Patrick."
Ryder sat at Stiles' desk, Austin on the edge of the boys bed while the Stilinski himself and Scott looked at the whiteboard of every piece of information Stiles has gathered.
Truthfully, the Anders girl didn't completely understand why she and her boyfriend needed to be there, but on the drive there, the Stilinski came up with every excuse under the sun as to why he needed them.
Whether it be because Austin was smart and could point out things he didn't pick up on, or because of Ryder's abilities, he inisited they be there.
Austin knew it was because he no longer fully trusted Scott. And with Theo running around and the Dread Doctors hurting people, Ryder and Austin were the only two people Stiles trusted wholeheartedly.
•••
"Yeah, make it obvious that we're breaking into someone's locker." Austin rolled his eyes as he at watched Scott rip the lock off of Noah's locker door.
Scott looked down at the lock in his hand, shrugging his shoulders before he reached into the locker and grabbed a hoodie.
"Now we can catch his scent."
Ryder, along with the other two boys, assume 'we' meant Scott and Ryder. Apparently, that meant Scott, Ryder, and Malia who rounded the corner.
"You called her?"
Malia ignored Stiles' words, moving towards her sister and pulling her into a hug.
"Where have you been?" Ryder muttered into her shoulder.
Malia pulled away, nodding at Austin who gave her a closed lip smile, silently glad to know she was okay. Malia then decided to give her a short answer, "Around."
"We need all the help can get. Isaac wasn't answering his phone, alright? I should be calling everyone."
"Why do you think we have Ryder and Austin here?" Stiles asked, not really wanting to be around his ex girlfriend right now. He was stressed enough when she wasn't staring him down in annoyance.
"You shouldn't be calling anyone." Ryder scoffed, "No one is exactly your biggest fan at the moment. And you only adding people into the mix is causing more problems."
Wanting to defend himself, Scott sighed, "Ryder, i'm trying to make things better."
"By making things worse?"
Malia interrupted before the conversation turned into an argument, "I know what this kid looks like."
