I stirred from my slumber, the distant moans of zombies piercing through the quiet of the morning. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes, I rose from my bed and made my way to the bathroom to splash some water on my face. Hae Won and Felix were still fast asleep, their peaceful expressions a stark contrast to the chaos outside, so I quietly settled in, lost in my own thoughts.

I found myself caught in a dream, a faint voice calling out to me for help. As I slowly awakened from the haze of sleep, the memory rushed back to me like a wave crashing against the shore.

"H-Hyunjin!" Hae Won's voice trembled with fear as she jolted upright, her eyes wide with panic. I immediately sat up, concern etched across my face.

"You okay? What's wrong?" I asked, my heart racing with worry as I reached out to comfort her.

"I-I forgot about him! He must be dead by now!" Hae Won's words spilled out in a rush, her distress evident as she buried her face in her knees, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Hey, don't cry. Who is he?" I gently inquired, moving closer to her and offering a reassuring hand on her back.

Just then, Felix stirred from his sleep, his brow furrowed with concern.

"What's happening?" he mumbled, his voice groggy but alert.

"Well, Hae Won woke up in tears, saying she forgot about someone," I explained, casting a worried glance at Hae Won.

Felix quickly joined us, his presence providing a sense of solidarity as we tried to comfort the distraught girl.ย

I awoke to the sound of someone crying uncontrollably. Alarmed, I quickly got up and hurried to the other room. There, Hae Won sat in a tearful state, with both boys trying to console her.

"What's wrong?" I asked, feeling a surge of panic.

"Hae Won woke up in tears. She mentioned forgetting someone," Felix explained.

"Who?" I directed my question to Hae Won.

"H-Hyunjin. I forgot about him. I should've gone to school to help him. He's probably dead by now," she sobbed.

"We can search for him. All of us, together. We can search while scavenging for supplies," I suggested.

"Really?!" Her face lit up with hope as she lifted it from her knees.

"Absolutely," Seungmin confirmed.

I heard some noise in the kitchen, so I got up and walked over there. The boys and Hae Won were chatting quietly while eating some old bread. Hae Won's eyes were red, so I felt a little concerned.

"Oh, good morning, Changbin!" Hae Won said excitedly, handing me some breakfast as I sat at the table.

"Morning. What was all that noise while I was asleep?" I asked.

"Oh, well, Hae Won here forgot her friend at school, so we're all going to get him while looking for food!" Seungmin replied.

"Oh, really? Nice," I said, smiling.

We all changed clothes and brushed our teeth, then grabbed our scavenging stuff and headed out.

"Hey, which way is your school, Wonnie?" Chan asked her, looking around.

"That way," she pointed to the building in the distance.

"Oh, I see it!" I said.

"Come on, you babies," Changbin said and started walking. The closer we got, the more zombie sounds we heard.

"Ahhh!" Changbin yelled.

A zombie just jumped out of nowhere on him.

I shot the thing, and it fell back.

"Are you okay?" Hae Won said, running up to him and checking him anxiously.

"Yeah, sure," he assured her, smiling.

"Then let's go," Seungmin said.

We were so close to the gate. I could hear the low growls of zombies nearby. Fear gripped me tightly, but a glimmer of hope flickered within me, praying that Hyunjin might still be alive.

Seungmin slowly opened the creaky gate, his reassuring words barely audible as he whispered in my ear, "It's okay. Don't be scared."

I nodded, grateful for his presence beside me, finding solace in his comforting words.

As we stepped inside, the eerie silence of the corridors amplified the sound of our footsteps. Bloodstains and debris littered the hallways, a grim reminder of the horrors that had unfolded.

Suddenly, a noise broke the silence, jolting us all into alertness. "Guys, I heard something," I whispered urgently, nudging them to listen.

"I heard it too," Changbin confirmed, pointing towards a nearby classroom.

Heart pounding, we approached cautiously, every step echoing in the empty halls. And then, amidst the darkness, I heard itโ€”a hoarse, labored breathing.

It was him.
