TEN - say your fucking goodbyes
Back in the library, the seven children spent their time assembling their plan. Sunny used her sharp teeth to turn the metal utensils into glasses for Duncan. Isadora clipped on fake bangs to her hair. Robyn spent time brushing Isadora's hair to match Violet's perfectly.
"I'm impressed you know how to pick a lock," Duncan said to Violet as Robyn tried styling his hair.
"Youb be surprised how often it comes in handy. This knot's called the Devil's Tongue. It was invented by female Finnish pirates in the 15th century," Violet explained. Marigold spent time copying notes from her notebook onto another piece of paper for Klaus. She also used Robyn's notes for Violet, and writing techniques for Sunny. As all of this was happening, Isadora finished adjusting her bangs and looked up to Klaus.
"How do I look?" She asked. Marigold lifted her head up from her notebook. Robyn didn't just catch her up on the Count Olaf situation, but Marigold was invested in Klaus and Isadora. She thought that they seemed like a cute couple. Klaus shot his head up.
"Different. Which is good. I mean, not that you didn't look good before. I mean, you do, you did, do look..." Klaus rambled on as his face got hotter. Violet and Marigold gave each other a knowing look. Robyn winked at Isadora while this was happening. "Sunny, how are those glasses coming?" The blond toddler handed Klaus the makeshift glasses.
Violet turned to the four children. "You guys can still back out now. We can find another way to pass the test."
"Look, those two, my sister and I won't sit-" Violet shushed Duncan, who turned around and noticed a shadow of someone.
"We'd better hurry," Marigold spoke.
"Us, too," Duncan replied. Klaus handed Robyn the glasses to put on Duncan. She kept them in her hand as Marigold and the Baudelaires faced Robyn and the Quagmires.
"I have this feeling that we're never going to see you again," Violet commented.
"You could just go back to your broom closet or dorm and forget about this," Klaus added. "Including you, Marigold." Isadora shook her head.
"Is that what your parents would do?" Isadora questioned.
"Our parents aren't here," Klaus noted.
"I bet they taught you the exact thing mine say to me," Robyn recalled.
"What?"
"What friends are for," Robyn finished. Duncan and Robyn looked at each other, grabbing each other's hands. They smiled at each other and looked back at their friends.
"We have to be careful sneaking out. So you guys go first, and we'll wait till it's clear," Isadora explained. The silence pierced the room worse than any loud noise. Robyn's eyes started stinging with tears as she ran to Marigold and hugged her.
"Hey, don't cry," Marigold comforted.
"You're crying more than me!" Robyn replied, laughing and crying at the same time. They quickly released, noticing that everyone was waiting on them.
"Remember when Mrs. Bass decided to yell at me for being one centimeter off and you gave me a cookie to feel better?" Marigold reminded.
"Oh yeah, they were all burnt on the outsides but somehow raw in the center," Robyn giggled.
"Well, as a gift, my daddy allowed me to go shopping and I purchased this bracelet thingy. It gives you a red heart if you are near, a black heart if you are far, and a pink heart if we are less than 1000 feet away," Marigold explained. Robyn's friend handed her a bracelet that had clear and translucent purple, while Marigold's had red instead of purple. The best friends hugged one last time for the day.
"I love you," Robyn whispered.
"I love you too. Next time I see you, update me on Duncan," Marigold whispered back, being very quiet for the last part. Robyn snickered and finally released. The two went back to the table with the rest of the group.
"Oh, Duncan, you'll need these," Robyn pointed out, taking the makeshift glasses and slowly putting them on the brunette. The two were close, but only blushed for a tiny second.
"Isadora, keep this. If anything goes wrong, you might need a spyglass," Klaus stuttered. Isadora took the other half of the spyglass.
"I don't think anything will go wrong. We'll see you guys before long," Isadora said. She walked up to him and kissed him on the cheek. She walked back to her position as Marigold, Klaus, Sunny and Violet whispered. Marigold turned around and waved at Robyn and winked at Isadora.
"What was that?" Violet asked, chuckling quietly.
"A couplet."
