4.
Hazel sighs as she turns around and looks at Lando who's sound asleep.
She can't sleep, all these mixed feelings are keeping her awake.
Her fingers gently play with his hair, trying not to wake him up.
It's dark but she can see the silhouette of his chest slowly moving up and down as he breaths. Cute little snores sound through the room every now and then.
That reminds her of the first time they spend the night together. A smile curls on her lips.
They didn't plan on spending the night together. It was their 5th date. They were just hanging out in Hazel's apartment, watching the worst movies ever, eating snacks and just having fun.
Lando had nearly fallen asleep on the couch. Hazel didn't like the idea of him driving home when he was so tired so she suggested him to stay.
They went to bed, cuddled and Lando fell asleep in no time. Soon his soft little snores filled the room, it made her giggle.
But now everything is different.
It's not the cute little snores that keep her up now.
It's the guilt.
It's George who keeps her up now.
Every time she closes her eyes she sees his beautiful ocean eyes.
Hazel reaches for her phone. A message from George is the first thing she notices as she turns it on.
Every time I close my eyes I see you.
2:33 AM
Sorry, I shouldn't have told you that, you have a boyfriend
2:47 AM
Hazel unlocks her phone and opens the chat. She and George have been texting every now and then.
And you have a girlfriend...
Oh you're awake too
Yeah because of you
This whole situation is messed up
What are we gonna do?
I don't know anymore...
But you should get some sleep
Yeah you too, goodnight George
Goodnight Hazel
George sighs as he puts his phone down. He folds his arms under his head and he stares at the ceiling.
She thinks of me too.
This thought gives him comfort.
There has been a lot of tension between him and Carmen. He's getting the feeling that Carmen knows something is up, yet she hasn't asked him about it.
He doesn't know how long he can keep doing this.
Lying to his girlfriend.
She doesn't deserve any of this pain.
Yet the truth might hurt even more.
Things would've been way easier if Hazel didn't make him feel this way. If she didn't look at him with those beautiful green eyes of hers the way she does.
Soulmates don't necessarily have to be lovers, they could also be best friends. But when George looks at her he doesn't see her as a best friend, he imagines how her cuddles would feel, how it would be to walk hand in hand in the moonlight.
He wants to know what makes her laugh, what makes her cry, what her favourite food is, her favourite thing to do on a date and what her favourite flowers are.
When they saw each other last weekend when she accompanied Lando to the racetrack he couldn't help but stare at her beautiful full lips and wonder what they taste like, wonder how it would feel to kiss them.
The truth is it's Lando who knows all these things. It's Lando who gets these cuddles and moonlight walks. It's Lando who knows how her oh so beautiful lips taste.
And it's Lando who gets to look into her eyes, but he doesn't even know what colour they are. George does.
George groans as he turns on his right side, his hand gently gliding over the empty spot next to him. He buries his face in Carmens pillow, it still smells like her.
It's been a while since she spend the night here.
Tears prickle in his eyes. All of this is so messed up.
"Enjoying the view?", Lando chuckles sleepily with a sheepish grin on his face.
He curls his arm around her waist and pulls her into his chest. "How'd you sleep?".
"Not. You?". Her nails trail over his bare chest.
"I slept like a baby".
"I figured, you even snored like one", Hazel chuckles.
"Oh sorry did my snores keep you up?".
Hazel shakes her head.
"Then what did?".
George.
"I don't know", she sighs. "But don't worry about it".
Oh the lying.
Hazel and Lando had build their relationship on trust and communication. They were always honest with each other about their feelings.
For the past four weeks all Hazel did was lying to him. At least, that's how it felt to her.
She wasn't necessarily lying to him but she wasn't particularly telling him the truth either.
It still pains her that Lando isn't the one who made her see colours and she can't even begin to understand how bad it must be for him once he knows.
Hazel has not figured out how to tell him yet. If, is no longer the question.
The question is when and how, it's a question she doesn't have an answer to.
Hazel sighs. She really needs to talk to George about this. It's time they're gonna make a plan.
Figure something out.
None of this would've been a big problem if George hadn't made her feel the way she does.
It's the way he looks down at her with his beautiful hazel eyes.
It's the way he smiles. Oh how beautiful he is when he smiles.
But his smiles are not for her.
She wonders how it would feel if those smiles were for her.
But it's not like she fell out of love with Lando. Every time he smiles at her butterflies flutter in her stomach.
She still loves him.
That's what makes this all so damn complicated.
Is it possible to genuinely be in love with two people at the same time?
Or maybe she's just in love with the idea of having found her soulmate more than she's actually in love with George.
But every time he looks at her heart skips a beat, or two.
She can't deny that he makes her feel some type of way.
What a mess.
