CASS STATHAM WAS TWENTY YEARS OLD WHEN SHE DROPPED OUT OF LAW SCHOOL AND MOVED TO TOKYO FROM VANCOUVER. She brought with her nothing but a pocketful of cash and a monkey wrench, trying to reinvent the person that she wanted to be. When no rally teams would hire her (because no self-respecting Japanese racing team wants to hire a law school dropout with nothing to prove her mechanical prowess and no grasp on the language past her grade twelve elective), her knight in shining Nissan came to her rescue. Han Seoul-oh found her outside the Team Mugen superformula headquarters with her head in her hands and tears on her face.

And then he offered her a job: the mechanic for his little underground street racing ring. Han was only one person, he couldn't run the entire thing on his own.

They had two good years of friendship before they fell in love. Cass fell harder and faster than she ever had before. Everything with Seoul-oh was so comforting, so easy. When she was with him, she forgot about all of the worst parts of herself. 

Han Seoul-oh made loving her look so easy, and he did it so well. He put up with her mood swings, and her anxiety and her stubbornness. All of the things she hated about herself were things that made him love her even more, things that made him want to figure her out.

WHEN SEOUL-OH GETS A CALL FROM HIS OLD FRIEND DOMINIC TORETTO ASKING TO MEET IN THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, Han agrees, kicking off the greatest adventure of Cass' life. 

Until she gets to the Dominican and realizes that what Toretto is running is bigger than street racing in Shibuya. And Toretto's crew doesn't think that she has what it takes to run with them. They think Cass is the weak link, the thing that's going to get them caught. All Cass has ever wanted was to feel like she was a part of something. A second family that wasn't obligated to love her because she was related by blood.

But she has her own skill set to offer up to the team, even if she can't race and can't fight. She's their eye in the sky, the one keeping them organized and guiding them through an earpiece when they're on the ground. She can change a tire faster than any of them combined, and even though she looks willowy and meek, she quickly becomes a key part of the team. 

And with Dom's blessing, right there on a beach in the Dominican, on the hood of a white 1960's Cadillac, Han Seoul-oh asks Cass Statham to marry him.

They got married in Monaco, on a yacht that took them all around the small French country. 

And it was all gone in the blink of an eye.

RETURNING TOKYO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A BREAK FROM EVERYTHING. After Rio, after Owen Shaw. A way for Han and Cass to reconnect and relax, a throwback to what brought them together in the first place.

It didn't take Han long to fall back in with Sean Boswell, the American racer he had mentored all those years ago, when he and Cass first met. Soon enough, the street racing wars are back in both of their lives as if they had never left.

And in the blink of an eye, all it takes is one silver Mercedes to shatter the last ten years of her life.

One T-bone crash is all it takes to take Han Seoul-oh away from her forever.

But Cass Statham-Han is stronger now. And she's ready to find the bastard who took out her husband and make him pay for taking away the only person who ever truly loved her for who she was. Then, and only then, will she allow herself to grieve.
