Chapter 3 Summary pt. 2(Old)
GroveClan Camp:
Birchheart screamed in horror when she saw what had happened to Grovestar. "Great StarClan Grovestar, what happened to you!" Firestrike ran out with some herbs to stop the bleeding.
Grovestar grumbled. "I'm afraid we are going to need DuneClan's help to fight. Breezewing, can you send a patrol to DuneClan?" Breezewing nodded.
"Larchfang and Rosepaw are both injured," said Thornstrike, giving Breezewing a pointed look.
"Shall I go to DuneClan to demand help?" asked Cedarclaw eagerly.
Firestrike chewed up some dock and put on Dewpaw's scratches and he put some dried oak leaf on it too and gave him a poppy seed. "Go get some rest," he said. Firestrike chewed some marigold into a pulp and put it on Larchfang, giving him a poppy seed and led him to an empty nest in the den where he fell asleep. Firestrike then applied some stinging nettle to Rosepaw and handed her a poppy seed and led her to an empty nest where she fell asleep. Firestrike wrapped some comfrey and goldenrod to stop the bleeding and gave Grovestar two poppy seeds and she fell asleep.
Breezewing nodded to Cedarclaw, beckoning to Firestrike to come. They set out of the camp, leaving Silverstep in charge.
Rosepaw looked over at Dewpaw. "Hey, not that I needed it, but thank you for saving my pelt back there."
Dewpaw chuckled. "It's fine." He met her gaze. "I'm not the type to leave my Clanmates hanging."
DuneClan Camp:
Dunestar turned her head, revealing Sunscar and Nightflame returning to camp. "DuneClan, gather below me!" she called out, her voice raspy and exhausted.
Sandyflight shook their apprentice awake. "Come on, you heard Dunestar. Get up Tinyears!" They padded out of the medicine den Sunscar motioned for Hope, Nightflame and Sandsky to join him at the clan meeting, while giving Dunestar a worried look.
Dunestar lifted her chin. "In response to the skirmish with GroveClan, we have suffered much fatigue," she meowed, eyeing the sore cats who looked incredibly tired.
Sandyflight grunted. "No kidding." Sunscar looked up and gave his leader an encouraging look.
Dunestar nodded. "Therefore we will delay excess patrols. I will go on them myself with any cats who are willing. Those who need treatment will visit the medicine den, and we will go from here."
Most of the clan nodded their agreement. Sunscar still looked at Dunestar with concern. "When Dunestar's occupied, I'll take on that responsibility as well. We need to focus on healing after everything that's happened, not fighting."
Dunestar nodded. "If we are to fight, we will. Other than that, I want all training to be delayed unless you are healed fully. Apprentices, Sunscar, Nightflame and and I will train you. Dismissed!"
Just as Dunestar had finished her speech, Cedarclaw came barreling into camp. "I demand to speak to Dunestar!" he shouted.
Breezewing glared at Cedarclaw, with a glare that said. 'Who's in charge here?' "I'm sorry about our warrior. We would like to speak to you."
Dunestar looked at the warriors. "What?" She said sternly.
"These GroveClan cats want to speak with you," explained Sunscar. "Can I send them away?"
"The Children of The Ember have attacked our camp and I think we could both agree that they are a threat to us. GroveClan would like to form an alliance with DuneClan," Breezewing replied.
Dunestar looked taken aback. "After what you've done to my Clan, DuneClan has no reason to ally with you," she hissed. "My warriors need to rest before any battle is even fought, whether it's with you or not. Nightflame! Sunscar! Escort them to the border, please."
"My pleasure," smirked Sunscar. "Off you go." He beckoned to the border.
"We'll make you regret this!" yowled Cedarclaw.
"Shut it, you flea-brain." Breezewing said. She whispered low, so that Sunscar and Nightflame couldn't hear. "We'll try again in a quarter moon and when they need OUR help, they'll surely want to ally with us."
Cedarstrike heard Breezewing and gave a nod. After Sunscar had escorted them away, he came back to Dunestar's den. "I took them straight to the border. I can't believe the nerve of GroveClan!"
Sandyflight finished clearing out the medicine den and stomped over to Sandsky. "Sandsky, talk with me in my den. Now," they said gruffly.
Sandsky was confused but followed the medicine cat to her den. Dunestar's eyes narrowed as she gazed over Sandyflight.
Sandyflight waited until they was alone with Sandsky. "You know how some medicine cats love to be mysterious and keep things from people? Well, that's not me. We've gotten a vision from StarClan and I think it concerns you."
"What? Are you sure? What was it about?" Sandsky questioned
"It was a prophecy. I can try to remember the bloody thing if you like but the gist of it was that there were six chosen cats and I think one of them is you."
Sandsky was in shock. "If it really was me, then what about the other five cats?"
"We're not completely sure, but we think two of them are Rosepaw and Dahliapaw. That means there are three that StarClan couldn't even be bothered to help us figure out yet," grumbled Sandyflight.
Sandsky nodded, trying to process all of this. "I'm guessing Rosepaw and Dahliapaw already know?"
"I'm not actually sure about that. My meathead colleagues might have forgotten to tell them. No matter the case, you'll have a chance to reach out to them at the next gathering, it's coming up fast. Make sure you steer them on the right path, three of the chosen cats are supposed to preserve the clans, but the other three are supposed to destroy them!" warned Sandyflight.
"I will do my best, Sandyflight." Sandsky promised.
"Oh, and Sandsky? Be careful who you trust with the prophecy. It could give dangerous cats a leg up if they know what's coming." Sandyflight flicked an ear. "If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Otherwise, scram! I don't want any cats getting suspicious." Sandsky nodded and walked out of the den.
Dunestar awoke to a shrill and repetitive scream echoing in the air. Overhead, there was a glimpse of gold before a dark shadow passed over the cats, as if a cloud had blocked out the hot sun. A golden eagle circled, its hungry eyes fixed on the two DuneClan apprentices.
Dunestar's eyes widened. "Watch out!" She yowled, pushing the apprentices into a den.
The eagle just missed the apprentices. Dunestar met the eagle's wicked eyes for just a second before it lifted into the air again. "Tinywing, stay in the den!" shouted Sandyflight, "that eagle would grab you in a heartbeat!"
The eagle swooped down again, this time aiming its fierce claws at Sandsky.Dunestar's ears pinned as she leaped onto a tree and reached for the eagle.Just as the eagle came in range, Dunestar paws caught the eagle. It shrieked as they both plummeted to the ground, the eagle trying to slash at Dunestar with its wicked claws.
Dunestar bared her teeth, making a killing bite at its throat. The eagle struggled, raking its claws hard against Dunestar's pelt before falling limp in her jaws. "Nice catch," said Sandyflight. "The clan will eat well tonight."
GroveClan Camp pt. 2:
As Breezewing, Firestrike and Cedarstrike walked into camp, Breezewing and Firestrike walked into the medicine den and Grovestar whispered something into her ear. Breezewing nodded. "CLAN MEETING!" She yowled. "Grovestar wants revenge! We are attacking the Children of the Ember again!"
Silverstep glared at Breezewing. " No. We've fought four battles in the last two quarter moons. Four cats are in the medicine den, Grovestar's leg is looking like I won't recover and Firestrike still hasn't apologised for attacking my daughter! Until our cats are healed, I won't go to battle and neither will my mate! And the next time you plan a hairbrained attack, you better have a plan besides attack, attack attack!" Most of the GroveClan cats whispered among themselves. One by one they stood behind Silverstep until Breezewing was faced with the entire clan glaring at her except Cedarclaw.
Breezewing went to the medicine den and spoke to Grovestar. "Grovestar said, 'DOES ANY OF YOU HAVE A BETTER IDEA. IF SO TELL ME NOW and if nobody has a better idea...'" Breezewing unsheathed her claws.
Firestrike came out of the medicine den. "Why should I APOLOGIZE?! Since you want to be Fox-heart, I'm NOT healing your daughter and this, whatever this is, STOPS NOW!"
"I have a better idea," said Silverstep cooly. "Ally with EyrieClan. Attack The Children when all our cats are healed and our apprentices have more experience. Stop underestimating The Children and crush them when we have numbers on our side."
Birchheart looked at Firestrike. "That's easy, I have medicine cat training. I can take over if Firestrike doesn't want to heal anymore."
Firestrike. Was. Done. "If you touch a paw on any of those cats," he unsheathed his claws and pretended to swipe one in Birchheart' face. "THAT will happen."
Breezewing went to Grovestar. "Grovestar said that is a good idea, but since the whole Clan rebelled, none of you are coming on the patrol." Breezewing headed EyrieClan camp.
"I don't want to go on patrol, so that's fine with me," said Silverstep. She looked at Firestrike. "And if you touch a hair on Birchheart's pelt, you're exiled."
"You can't exile me," Firestrike said.
"Not yet," smiled Silverstep. "Not yet."
Grovestar walked out of her den, carrying a limp. "Breezewing will be back soon. The unhealed cats will not fight in the battles and once we get EyrieClan and DuneClan on our side, GroveClan will have less hurt cats. And we are only fighting for revenge and territory, Meadowpaw was killed and that meant revenge. But since there's nothing to avenge right now, there'll be no more battles for a while. Sound good, or y'all HAPPY?" Grovestar said, without taking a breath.
Many of the cats nodded but some seemed unconvinced. "Will Firestrike still attack Birchheart and not heal Rosepaw?" asked Thornstrike, her mate.
Grovestar glared at Firestrike. Firestrike rolled his eyes. "Fine I won't."
"Thank you Grovestar," said Birchheart. "I don't want to be attacked."
Cedarclaw came up to her as well. "Do you need anything else? Fresh bedding for example?"
"You're welcome and you can give the fresh bedding to the elders," Grovestar responded
Dewpaw raised his chin, flicking his tail as he approached Grovestar. "Can I do anything to help?" he meowed.
Grovestar thought. "You can go on a hunting patrol, take a warrior and one of your fellow apprentices."
Dewpaw dipped his head. "Is Rosepaw okay to go?" He asked.
Firestrike nodded.
Rosepaw padded out of the medicine den. There was no trace of the scratches Breezewing had given her. When she saw Dewpaw, she smiled, "Hey Dewpaw. Nice to see you."
"You too." Dewpaw smiled.
GroveClan-DuneClan border:
Firestrike waited by the border for he needed to speak to Sandyflight in private. Sandyflight was collecting herbs when they saw Firestrike. "Firestrike, what are you doing here?"
"I think I know who one of the cats destined to destroy is." He lowered his voice into a soft whisper. "Silverstep, Rosepaw's mother. She almost led a rebellion against Grovestar the other day! And I think she's out to get me."
"Oh really?" said Sandyflight. "Well, have you or your kin done anything else to her daughter since you permanently maimed her last week?"
"No. It was Grovestar's fault. And I got angry at her and refused to heal Rosepaw."
Sandyflight sighed. "Well, if you want my advice, it's this: keep an eye on Rosepaw and Silverstep and don't do anything to irritate your clanmates. I know you have trouble controlling your temper, but one more tantrum could be the thing that causes the clan to fall right into Silverstep's paws."
Firestrike rolled his eyes so hard, it looked like it went to the back of his head. "Fine..." he grumbled.
"That's the spirit," said Sandyflight sarcastically. "I should get going, but I'll let you know if one of the cats in my clan seems suspicious." Firestrike nodded in agreement and ran back to the camp.

Rosepaw padded out of the medicine den. There was no trace of the scratches Breezewing had given her. When she saw Dewpaw, she smiled, "Hey Dewpaw. Nice to see you."
"You too." Dewpaw smiled.
Breezewing walked into camp and told Grovestar and Grovestar nodded. She called out to the Clan, "EyrieClan has agreed to fight with us. Now less cats can get hurt." Grovestar yowled in happiness and the Clan joined in. Dewpaw howled as well when he heard Grovestar's announcement.
Silverstep smiled as the other cats of GroveClan cheered. Rosepaw yowled along with her clanmates. When the joyous shouts started to die down, Rosepaw turned to Dewpaw. "Do, did you want to ask me something?"
Firestrike went up to Rosepaw. "Rosepaw, meet me outside of camp." And Firestrike went out of camp.
Rosepaw rolled her eyes. "Guess I have to go, His Grumpiness has summoned me." She padded after him.
Silverstep narrowed her eyes at Firestrike. "Yowl if he tries anything," she whispered.
GroveClan Territory pt. 1:
Firestrike waited patiently for Rosepaw to come. Rosepaw caught up with Firestrike. "What do you want?" she asked suspiciously.
"I think you are part of a prophecy," Firestrike said.
Rosepaw looked skeptical. "Really? I think you're pulling my leg. Tell me something about this 'prophecy' then."
Firestrike told Rosepaw, the entire prophecy. "The medicine cats and I think you are the one to preserve." But I think Silverstep is one of the cats to destroy, he thought.
Rosepaw got a proud look in her eyes. "Are we done? I can't wait to tell Dewpaw all about this!"
Firestrike hushed her. "You can't tell ANY cat, not your mother, not your father, not Dewpaw, not ANY cat. Do you understand?"
Rosepaw rolled her eyes. "Loud and clear, Tigerstar. I know how to keep a secret." Firestrike nodded.
"Go back to camp," he said. "I have more important medicine cat business to do."
Rosepaw bowed down to him. "As you command Firestar," she said mockingly, before padding back to camp.
GroveClan Camp pt. 3:
Rosepaw came back to camp and strutted over to Dewpaw. "Hey Dewpaw, I'm back. Don't ask where, it's very hush-hush." She swished her tail dramatically. "Ready for that patrol?"
"Uhm, okay?" Dewpaw raised a brow in confusion. "Yeah, we can go."
"I can take you, if you like," offered Thornstrike. "Where in the territory would you like to go?"
Rosepaw looked at Dewpaw. "Your choice, I'm terrible at making decisions."
Grovestar got out of the leader's den which was placed lower on the ground, because Grovestar liked sleeping in trees. She saw all the cats running around, going through their daily duties, the peace and quiet was actually nice for once. Her leg started to heal, but some of the fur has been scarred off and it looked more bone than leg. She went to the medicine den where Firestrike saw her and put some comfrey on her leg.
Dewpaw flicked his ear. It was so quiet, he could hear his own breathing. "How are you feeling?" Dewpaw asked Grovestar softly.
Grovestar nodded. "I'm feeling better," she said. "In fact..." Grovestar walked out of the den. "Clan Meeting!" she yowled as she sat next to the Mossy Stump. "I think it's time to give our apprentices, mentors."
Dewpaw lifted his chin proudly, his eyes gleaming with appreciation as he sat down.
"I say these words to StarClan, Rosepaw, Breezewing will be your mentor and Dewpaw, Silverstep will be your mentor." "these cats have reached the age of nine moons and still do not have mentors." Dewpaw nodded.
Silverstep nodded her head graciously to Grovestar, and padded over to touch noses with Dewpaw. "You're going to be a great apprentice, I know it," she whispered.
Dewpaw touched his nose to Silverstep, smiling.
Rosepaw was torn between excitement at being the deputy's apprentice and frustration at the time she was accidentally attacked. She touched Breezewing's nose politely.
The ceremony was interrupted with a few gasps. Overhead, there was a glimpse of gold before a dark shadow passed over the cats, as if a cloud had blocked out the limited sun of the grove. A shrill and repetitive scream echoed in the air. "My kits!" shrieked Wildrose, "they've escaped!"
Dewpaw gasped. "What?!" He ran out of camp.
"I hate kits," muttered Rosepaw, following him.
Grovestar looked and started shouting orders at every cat. "Silverstep! Calm Wildrose down! Breezewing, Cherrymask, Mallowskip, Cedarclaw, Brokenleg and Thornstrike! Find Wildrose's kits! Everyone else stay in the camp and don't let your kits escape!"
Silverstep nodded and raced over to Wildrose. "Don't worry dear. We'll have your kits back in no time," she whispered soothingly, wrapping her tail around the grieving mother. The rest of the cats obeyed their leader at once, staying in their dens or racing after the two apprentices into the territory.
Dewpaw skidded to a halt, turning back. "Come on, Rosepaw!" He left back to camp.
GroveClan Territory pt. 2:
Rosepaw and Dewpaw raced into the territory to see Poppykit, Pearkit and Mosskit playing without a care in the world. A shadow passed over them and they looked up, curious.
Breezewing and her patrol saw the apprentices and kits out there. She also saw the shadow. "What in the name of StarClan is that?" Dewpaw looked up in panic.
"Come on little kits, I've got a fun new game to show you," said Rosepaw, thinking on her feet. Poppykit and Pearkit padded over to see what she was talking about, but Mosskit refused, sticking her nose in the air.
The eagle swooped down, snatching Mosskit from the ground and pulling her up into the air and away. Breezewing screeched and she ran after the eagle, as fast as she could.
Breezewing and the eagle kept pace until they came to the eagle's nest in the try. Three hungry eaglets stretched out their already sharp beaks to taste a bit of their mother's new catch.
Breezewing jumped up, and went to catch the kit, before it could go into the mouth of the eagles. Breezewing caught the bawling kit in the nick of time, crashed back down to the ground. On the way, the eagle gave her a sharp peck on her back, drawing blood. For some reason, the eagle didn't pursue the chase any further, allowing Breezewing to flee bleeding into the woods, Mosskit still in her jaws. Dewpaw watched from a distance, crouched from below a bush.
GroveClan Camp pt. 4:
Breezewing ran back to camp, just in time to collapse on to the ground. Firestrike ran out with some herbs and applied some burdock root on Breezewing's back.
Silverstep took Mosskit from Breezewing and brought her to Wildrose. "What did I tell you, they're all safe and sound," said Silverstep soothingly as Wildrose mutely carried her kits to the medicine den for a check-up with Firestrike.
Rosepaw padded into camp after Dewpaw. "I can't believe that we just saved two kits from an eagle. I knew it, I'm special and it must have something to do with what Firestrike told me."
Firestrike gave Mosskit a poppy seed and Mosskit fell asleep. While Mosskit was asleep, he applied some marigold onto the wounds from the eagle.
Firestrike went up to Grovestar and told her about the prophecy, Rosepaw and Silverstep. Grovestar's eyes widened with shock, but she promised to keep this to herself.
Breezewing walked up to Rosepaw. "Rosepaw are you ready for training?" she asked.
Rosepaw got up eagerly. "Sure! What'll we be learning first? Some wicked battle moves?"
Breezewing nodded. "I'm going to teach you GroveClan's secret battle-moves."
"I can't wait, what do I do first?!" squealed Rosepaw.
"Follow me!" she said, racing to the territory.
GroveClan territory pt. 3:
Breezewing leaped onto a tree and on a branch, stayed hidden and made no sound.
Rosepaw followed her mentor, and clung to a branch right beside Breezewing's. "What's next?" she whispered. Breezewing didn't answer but jumped out of the tree, landing perfectly on the ground.
"Wow!" called Rosepaw from the tree. "Can I try?"
Breezewing shouted, "Of course! Just land on top of me!"
Rosepaw tried, but her jump was a bit short and wobbly. She grazed past Breezewing's pelt before crashing to the forest floor. "Oof," she grunted.
"Do you want to try again?"
"Yes," said Rosepaw. "I want to get this right." It took her a few more tries, but eventually Rosepaw jumped into Breezewing's back, pushing her to the ground.
"Oof!" Breezewing said, getting up. "Let's try another move." Breezewing went up a branch, staying quiet. Then she landed with four paws outstretched on Rosepaw, knocked Rosepaw's paws from under her. Next she flipped Rosepaw from under her belly, pinning her to the ground. "We will only use these moves when there's a battle on OUR territory, ok? and dont show ANY of these moves to the apprentices."
Rosepaw nodded reluctantly. "Alright, I promise. I won't even tell Dewpaw." She practiced what Breezewing had shown her. Her first attempt had a good landing but sloppy pin and flip. Rosepaw practiced for ages but finally managed to get the complicated move right.
Breezewing wheezed in laughter. She went back onto the branch, leaped, and kicked Rosepaw and before she hit the ground she leaped back onto the branch.
Rosepaw heard Breezewing laughing at her, and she looked to the ground, embarrassed. She promised herself she'd practice the move all night until she got it just right so her mentor would have no reason to mock her.
Breezewing went on the branch and leaped full force, her claws sheathed, aiming for Rosepaw's face.
Rosepaw dodged to the side and knocked her mentor's legs out from under her. She pinned her there and then.
"Good job! I think we are done for the day. Let's go back to camp." Breezewing said.
"Thanks Breezewing," said Rosepaw. She followed her mentor back to camp, eager to tell Dewpaw all about her exciting day.
