Prologue

*EDITED*

Femi got down from the car and so did the two escorts - who'd accompanied the driver to the airport to fetch him. He inhaled and exhaled the fresh air and smiled as he did. It'd been a while since he'd been in Nigeria and now that he's back, he plans on actually enjoying his stay here. Two servants ran over to meet him, both wearing smiles on their faces.

"Welcome back, sir" they chorused and bowed their head in respect. This made Femi smile and chuckle all at the same time.

"Thank you" he replied, his masculine and yet charming voice filled the air. The two servants nodded and immediately opened the trunk of the car and took out his luggages.

His mother, Mrs. Omashola, came out of the house and smiled so widely immediately she set her eyes on her son - who had been away from Nigeria for five years studying Business and Accounting in the United States of America. She walked towards him with open arms and wrapped him in a bear hug. She was extremely delighted to see her son once again.

"My son, I've missed you so much. Look how grown and handsome you've become. I'm pretty sure all the girls would be falling head-over-heels in love with you" she praised him, smiling widely at him. Femi chuckled and broke the long hug. He was indeed extremely happy to see his mother again.

"Maami, always with the praises" he said, and his mother grinned again. "I've missed you too. I missed all of you" he added with an even bigger smile on his face.

A tall brown skinned man also came out of the house. He had almost the exact same features as his son. He had broad shoulders, just like Femi, and he had deep brown eyes, broad lips and a broad nose too. Femi, on the other hand, had broad shoulders - just like his dad's - a really impressive height and broad slightly, pink lips. He also had deep brown eyes that captivated the eyes of many, and beautiful set of pearly whites that made his smile really charming and captivating. Mrs. Omashola, on the other hand, was brown skinned too - although hers was a bit lighter than that of her husband and son - and she also had a small but pointed nose, light brown eyes and a beautiful set of pearly whites. She had an average height and a slightly plump body. She also had her brown artificial braids packed up in a ponytail.

"Femi, my boy!" His father called out with a big smile on his face, a hint of pride laced in every word. "Welcome back" he said and finally approached him and hugged him so tight.

Most of the servants and workers smiled as they watched this. But they immediately returned back to their various duties, the minute Mrs. Omashola gave them a look that read terror.

"How are you?" His dad asked, after pulling away from the hug, a smile still plastered on his face.

"I'm fine, dad. Good afternoon, sir" Femi replied with a smile still glued to his face. He couldn't contain the happiness he felt just by seeing his father again. Ever since he was a little boy, he has always been so close to his father. They were like best friends and shared a lot of things in common.

"Afternoon my son. I missed you a lot" Mr Omashola grinned. "Come in. I'm sure there's a lot we need to talk about" he smiled and held Femi's hand and they both walked into the house.

Mrs. Omashola could not hide her joy and smile, she was so happy to have her son back in the house. She silently thanked the Lord for bringing him back home safely and walked inside the two storey building which had been carefully adorned with flowers surrounding the entire building and astonishing exterior designs and decors which made the building seemingly prettier than it already was. The pool at the corner glowed a bright blue and the entire compound spelt out the word 'EXPENSIVE'.

"You there, don't just stand there. Go into the kitchen and make sure everything is in order" Mrs. Omashola ordered the servant who stood at a corner doing nothing.

"Yes, ma'am" the servant replied and walked away quickly, to do as she was told.

"I made your favorite, but first you'll have to go upstairs and freshen up and after that you'll come downstairs and have your meal, okay?" His mom informed as they got into the house.

"Maami, you know me too well" he smiled and so did his father too. He has always been a fan of his mother's cooking, and now he has finally returned: he couldn't wait to have a taste of her one-of-a-kind dish.

" I should. I gave birth to you, didn't I?" She replied and Femi chuckled.

He stared at everything around him, from the living room to the entire outstretches of the house, he knew a lot had changed. The house must've been renovated again - as usual - both the interior and exterior designs of the house were different and quite exquisite.

A smile grazed his lips as he remembered all the memories which he had made with his late older sister, when they were little. Unfortunately, he lost his sister six years ago to an inferno which instantly made him the only child of his parents. He wished she were here with him but he knew she was in a better place. A place, where she had nothing to worry about.

A bottle of water was brought to him in a tray, by one of the servants - as ordered by his mother - and he guzzled down all the contents of the bottle. A sigh of relief escaped his lips, and the tray - alongside the now empty bottle of water - was taken away by the servant.

"You should go upstairs now and have your bath. As soon as you're done with that; head downstairs for your lunch, okay?" His mom said to him and he nodded in understanding.

He got up from the couch and headed upstairs to his bedroom. He barely remembered where it was but slowly he began to remember. The mansion contained a total of twelve bedrooms; six bedrooms upstairs and six bedrooms downstairs. And at the back of the compound stood the BQ.

Finally, he located his room and opened the door. Once inside his room; a smile played on his lips as he remembered how much he used to play in there with his late sister when they were kids. Those memories where still fresh in his memory and those were the only things that made him feel closer to his late sister. As he walked into the room, he saw her photo which sat on a beautiful floral frame and was placed next to his bedstand. He shut the door behind him and walked into the room fully.

The room looked liked it had been cleaned and rid of all form of dirt. It was practically glowing, even the floors were squeaky clean and showed his reflection. He chuckled because he knew his mother must've strictly ordered the servants to specially ensure that his room was well-arranged and cleaned properly.

His king-sized bed sat in the middle of the extremely large bedroom and the beddings were looking new and extra clean. The white sheets and pillow cases complimented the white abstract patterned wallpaper on his walls. The black tiles on the floor and white plush foot mat accompanied the big and fluffy duvet that was spread across his bed in delicate folds. At the corner of the room; stood a black tinted glass table and black office chair where he normally did some research and where he studied. A full-length mirror stood at the corner of the room and so also did a coat hanger. At the right hand side of the room stood a large in-built walk-in closet of about the size of a medium sized bedroom, it was also coated with shiny black paint that aligned with all the other furnitures in the room. At the left hand side of the room was where the en suite bathroom was located. It was also exquisitely decorated and large-sized, just like the rest of the room - although, not quite exactly.

He shook his head as he thought of the fact that he barely made use of most of the things in his room. For instance; his large-sized closet barely had up to fifty clothes contained in it, and as for his shoes? He barely had up to twenty fo them, yet his closet was just so big.

He wasn't one to be flamboyant or extravagant in his dealings. He only had such benefits because of his father's status as a wealthy and renowned senator in the country. Left for him to decide; he would have chosen his room to be a small one with simple but yet beautiful interiors. But due to his status as the senator's son, he had to live his life extravagantly and flamboyantly. He had more than he could ask for but he wasn't someone that loved to flaunt his wealth at people's faces. He preferred to behave and interact with people in a low-key kind of way and without any traces of pomposity. He was a cultured and well-mannered young man. He didn't look down on people and never thought highly of himself. He was a one-of-a-kind type of person, very rare to find someone as privileged as him but yet so down-to-Earth.

Chioma got down from the car in style. She had her black Prada purse in her hand and her bubble gum pink, knee length dress to match. Her designer black Versace heels made her appearance extra classy. She had her artificial blonde braids, which matched her light complexion, up in a bun and her light but smokey makeup made her look a lot more fiercer than she already was. The three escorts who had accompanied the driver to the airport - to fetch her - also got down from the car and one of them tried helping the sassy spoilt brat down from the car. She stared daggers at the escorts that tried helping her down from the car.

"I'm not crippled, I can walk you dumb heads!" She hissed at them and they retreated, in fear of getting shouted at for the umpteenth time today. All the servants around, rushed to either welcome her or ensure that she found no reason to yell at them.

"You simpleton! That travelling bag is worth more than your father's generational property. Handle it with care, will you?!" She yelled, in her well polished Nigerian-American accent, at the maid who tried to get her travelling bag down from the trunk of the car.

"I'm... I'm so sorry, ma'am" stuttered the frightened maid. Chioma sized her with her eyes, with a disgusted look on her face.

"Who even hired you?" She eyed the girl once again, making sure to bore an intimidating hole into the poor girl's soul.

"It... It was your mother" The girl replied, the fright in her eyes brightened each time Chioma spoke to her.

"Then you better be careful, one lousy mistake with me, and you're out of here and you're never coming back" She warned, meaning every single word of hers.

"Ye- Yes, ma'am" came the girl's stuttery voice.

"Don't touch me or else you'll definitely lose your job! Are you stupid?!" She yelled at another servant who almost tripped on her.

"So- sorry, ma'am. I'm so sorry, please forgive me" the servant went on his knees, and pleaded with her.

She eyed him and scowled,
"Nincompoop! Get out of my sight right this instant! I just do not understand where y'all get these classless lowlifes from!" She yelled, already irritated by their presence.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I'm realβ€”"

"What did I just say?! I said, get the hell outta here, right now! Do not, I repeat, do not test me!" Came her intimidatingly authoritative voice.

Hurriedly, the servant fled away from her and she turned to the rest of them, giving them warning glares.

"Insolent pigs!" She further yelled, staring daggers at the other frightened servants.

"Are y'all tryna get me upset?! Are you guys stupid or something?! Don't just stand there like useless statues! Get to work! For goodness'sake! Are y'all really this dumb and incompetent?!" She yelled at the rest of them, and they hurried scurried away. Each, finding something to prevent Chioma's fiery insults.

"Jeez! Such animals!" She groaned, running a hand through her hair.

"You... You there!" She called for a maid, whom she founding standing at a corner, confused and terrified.

"Ye- Yes, ma'am?" Came the maid's thin and barely audible voice.

"What are you doing there?" Came Chioma's intimidating voice that was enough to make the servant pass out from fear.

"I- I... I was just... Iβ€”"

"Go pack your dumb things and get the hell outta of here! I don't wanna see here, got that?! Now scram!" She yelled at the servant and she quickly burst into tears and got down on her knees to plead with her.

"Please, ma'am. Please, I really need this job. I'm so so sorry, please don't β€”"

"Hey! I do not want to hear whatever it is you have to say! When I said, scram, I meant it. Now get out!" She cut her off abruptly, her eyes: sharp and fierce like that of a lioness.

"Pleaseβ€”"

"Get out!" She cut her off once again, and the servant cried all over again.

A light skinned middle-aged lady, with a bright smile on her face, a slightly plump body and dressed in a blue ankle length dress; walked towards Chioma alongside an extremely tall brown skinned middle-aged man, also wearing a big smile on his face. They both walked towards Chioma and engulfed her in a warm embrace.

"I knew, from the terrified behaviors from the servants, that my daughter has arrived. Commando!" Mrs. Aniobi smiled, as she hugged her daughter, affectionately.

"Mom, dad" Chioma smiled as they hugged her.

"My lovely daughter. Welcome back, my dear" her mother, Mrs. Aniobi, smiled as she let go of her.

"Welcome back, my dear. I hope the journey wasn't too stressful" her father added, still wearing his vibrant smile on his face.

"It wasn't dad. The only stressful thing was that I had to deal with these morons working here" Chioma said with so much disdain laced in her voice. Mr. Aniobi chuckled at her words. He knew she'd never change, always the same ole proud and rude young girl she has always been.

"Chioma, don't be so hard on them. They are human beings too" her father tried to reason with her. Although he was wealthy, he still had respect for other people. Something Chioma didn't have in her personal dictionary.

Her father glanced at the maid, who still knelt on the ground, crying helplessly.

"Ada, stop crying and go inside the house. You're not going anywhere" he said to her, feeling bad that Chioma had treated her that way.

Almost as if she was stung by a scorpion, she sprang up from the floor and thanked him.

"Thank you so much, sir. Thank you" she said, bending her knees a little forward, in gratitude. Hurriedly, she ran into the Servant's Quarters.

Chioma eyed her with with distaste, then averted her eyes to her father - who still had his smile on his face.

"Dad, why did you do that? She wasβ€”"

"Chioma..." He drawled. "You mustn't be so harsh on people always. Respect isn't earned that way, my dear" he said to her, and she scoffed.

"If you're lenient with the pigs, one day they'll start behaving like they're the masters. If one keeps food for rats, it will invite other rats too, and they'll begin to think they own the place. I'm only showing them their place, dad" she said to her father, and he shook his head in disagreement.

"That doesn't mean you shouldn't treat them like human beings too. Someone gave birth to them, and they feel pain just as much as you do when you're hurt. Hurting them with your words will not always help the matter. Remember, what goes around, comes around" he advised and she rolled her tired eyes.

"And so what? They are being paid to work and not act stupid. We aren't paying them to act foolish and display idiotic behaviors. If they're going to work here, then they'll have to take their jobs seriously" Chioma said with a hiss. Her mother only shook her head in laughter.

"Humility will take you a long way, Chioma. The greatest rulers learnt to humble themselves first. Don't forget, that true queens make the rules and abide by them" her dad advised and she nodded her head - but not because she was willing to listen to him... But because she was tired of listening to him preach to her on how to handle things. To her, she did nothing wrong and the servants were at fault.

"This girl, you won't kill me" she laughed and so did Chioma too.

"Oya, let's get inside" Mrs. Aniobi said, and they all walked into the house.

Once inside the house, and seated on the couch in the living room; a brown skinned girl - dressed in a pair of black jeans and a red off-shoulders shirt - walked into the room. She had her dark purple artificial braids up in pigtails and she wore a vibrant smile on her face. She looked not any older than sixteen and she practically ran towards Chioma and hugged her so tight.

"Sister Chioma!" She smiled as she hugged her so tight. "I've missed you so much!" She said, still hugging Chioma. Chioma smiled and chuckled at the same time, at the girl's enthusiastic behavior.

"Amara, I've also missed you a lot" she smiled and Amara let go of her.

"We have a lot to talk about oh, this night is for the both of us to gist. No dulling at all" she beamed and Chioma laughed.

"Sure thing" Chioma replied.

"Gosh! Chioma you have changed oh. Look at the way your English sounds so polished and fancy. Hmm, America has really changed you. Not to mention you look super beautiful" Amara teased and Chioma laughed.

"And you've changed also. You are taller now, I hope you aren't taller than I am" Chioma replied and Amara smiled.

"Of course I am. When you were busy eating veggies, back there in America, I was busy eating beans to grow taller" Amara joked and everyone laughed.

"Silly girl" Chioma said to her with a smile.

"It's okay, Amara. Let her go upstairs now to have her bath, after she's done bathing and eating, then you two can gist all you want. I won't stop you" Mrs Aniobi said and Amara feigned a childish pout.

"Mommy, please naw..." she begged and her mother chuckled.

"Amara please naw..." Her mom teased and she smiled.

"Fine, but after that we will gist like mad. No one will disturb us oh" Amara announced and her parents chuckled.

"Yes, we won't disturb" they replied and Chioma excused herself and went upstairs to her room.

Her room was decorated with different floral designs. Next to her bed were two flower vases containing a bunch of fake red roses. Her entire wall was covered in white floral wallpapers with gold embroideries. Her walk-in closet was like the size of an entire bedroom and it was stacked up with designer clothing of different styles and designs. Her bedstand was painted in a rich white color with gold painted designs along the headrest. Her vanity table was indeed large and also coated in white painting with gold painted designs flaked on it. A picture of a pink flower hung above her bedstand and the well polished quality wooden floor displayed her reflection.

A smile graced her lips as she shut the door behind her and lay on her bed.

"So good to be back home" she said to her self, with a smile still on her face.
