Chapter 21
Femi's POV.
Chioma stomped over to our table with a frown on her face. I so wanted to say something mean to her right now but I decided against it. After what happened yesterday, I think I need a break from all her nonsense.
"Amara, we're leaving" she said but Amara pursed her lips and shook her head, no.
"Please can you give me a few more minutes? I just want to chat with Femi and Kunmi a little" it was at the mention of Kunmi's name that I looked over to her and noticed that she had a scowl on her face the whole time Chioma has been here, she eyed her disdainfully and I wondered if she hated her as much as I do, maybe even more.
"Chioma, not so nice to see you here" I couldn't help but say with a triumphant smirk on my face, knowing that I've gotten her attention.
"And to think that you'd at least shut that pipe you call a mouth" she snorted and I grinned to annoy her further.
"I'm not in the mood to lower my standards to your level. Please, if you're done here then you can leave. This table isn't for, um... how do I put this nicely?" I stroked my chin in thought, for a more dramatic effect.Β "Yes, this table isn't for mentally deranged drama queens. That is if you know what I mean" I smirked all innocently and she eyed me from head to toe and hissed.
"I wasn't even planning on staying here, I'm only here because of my sister. Clearly this table is reserved for oversized dumb heads like you two" she said, pointing at Kunmi and I.
" Hey!" Amara yelled with a pout on her face. "You see me sitting here, don't you? And I'm not an oversized dumb head and neither are they. Chioma, oya let's go. Stop insulting them, please" Amara added.
Chioma shot her a cold hard glare.
"Go to the car, now!" She ordered and Amara grumbled before leaving. Once she was gone, Chioma eyed Kunmi and I once more before turning to leave but then Kunmi had something to say to her.
"I wonder what gives you the guts and nerves to open your dirty mouth to say such rude things to people. If I were you, I'd be careful cause one day you will get into trouble" Kunmi said and I smiled at her simple but true words.
Chioma turned around like the speed of light and glared at her.
"Is that a threat?" She asked, still glaring daggers at Kunmi.
"Call it whatever you like" was Kunmi's simple reply.
"I regret trying to file a__"
"I didn't ask you to file a complaint on my behalf. It was your guilty conscience that made you do that" Kunmi cut her off sharply.
"Stay out of my business else you'll suffer something more severe than two broken legs" Chioma said before walking out and Kunmi laughed.
"See why I say she talks like she has strength when she is infact a wimp?" She said after her laughter had subsided.
"She fascinates me. So petite but says things that makes her look fiercer than she appears" I shook my head as I put a spoonful of ice cream into my mouth, savoring the creamy goodness.
"Be careful with her. She's bad news, everything about her gives off bad energy" Kunmi said and I shrugged.
"She's already bad so yeah, she's bad news" I replied.
We ate our ice cream in silence and afterwards, I helped Kunmi into the car while I drove her home.

Chioma's POV.
"Amara, for the umpteenth time, stop talking about Femi" I warned.
"Why? He's nice and you're just being so blinded by your ego and pride to see that" she said and I frowned.
"Enough! I am your older sister and you ought to respect me" I said firmly.
"I am respecting you" she said, stressing the word 'am'.
"No, you're not" I shot back.
"Yes I am!" She protested.
"No, you're not"
"Yes I am, I do respect you. A lot"
"You don't! And it's because I joke with you a lot. Over familiarity does bring insults" I said with a frown still on my face.
"Fine, then please stop joking with me since you feel I don't respect you. But just know that you also don't respect people. Respect is reciprocal and in your case, it's one-sided" she said as she angrily went upstairs.
Did I just have a fight with my younger sister?
I heaved a very frustrated sigh as I grabbed my purse from the couch and headed outside.
"Seb!" I called out and he immediately ran towards me.
"Yes ma'am" he said.
"Get the car ready, I need you to take me to Amanda's house" I said to him.
"Okay ma'am" and with that he immediately left to do as he was told.
* * *
"You didn't tell me you were coming over. Welcome" Amanda said as I walked into her house. The cold air from the AC hit my skin and I shuddered a little.
"My parents aren't home yet, just me and my cousin" Amanda said as I walked into her house, she shut the door behind her and joined me in the living room.
"So... what's up?" She said as she plopped on the couch next to me.
"I had a fight with Amara because of that fool" I said and Amara sighed whilst rolling her eyes.
"And what has he got to do with it? You keep blaming him for everything" she said and I groaned.
"That's because he's always ruining things for me"
"How?" She asked.
"I don't know how to explain. Look, I came here to chill and I think I might sleep over so I need some entertainment" I said as I leaned back on the couch.
"The TV is right in front of you. Watch something, I don't do private entertainments" she said as she got up from the couch.
"Where are you going to?" I asked, looking up to see her retreating towards the kitchen area.
"I was cooking before you came" she simply said.
"Cooking? What happened to all the servants?" I asked as I also got up from the couch.
"Sometimes I like to cook my own meals. I'm an only child and a girl for that matter and so my mom made sure that I learnt how to cook for myself" she said and I rolled my eyes at her.
"Why do you need to know how to cook? Even if you get married, you can always hire a cook" I said whilst folding my arms as we walked into the organised and beautifully decorated kitchen.
The kitchen cupboards were all red and the floors were covered with black shiny tiles. The sink was also pretty with a silver coating and the kitchen island was also red with black florals flaked to the sides. The other side of the kitchen was where the electric stove and other kitchen appliances were kept. The dishwasher as well as the oven and microwave were carefully placed in an orderly manner. And the AC blasted at a medium speed, just enough to keep the kitchen cool at all times.
"Not every man appreciates a cook making their food for them when they have a wife. It's just not done that way" Amanda said and I a shot her a look.
"Why?" I asked.
"Cause it's wrong for a girl to not know how to cook" she simply said.
"That's what men want us to believe. Can't they cook for themselves? Are they not human beings too? Why on Earth are the women expected to do all the work? As for me, I am a modern woman and my husband won't make me do things I don't want to. He'll either have to hire a cook or he learns how to cook for himself. As simple as that" I said, firmly.
"So Chioma, you don't want to learn how to cook? All you know how to cook is noodles and that isn't even proper food" she said.
"Amanda, I lived in the US for a good number of years and while I was there, I didn't have to cook because I could easily buy food from a restaurant or something like that and besides, my roommate was a intern chef and so she usually made meals for both of us. See?" I said with a shrug.
"That's not good oh," Amanda said. "Can you at least boil water, rice and yam?" She asked.
"I can boil water and all those other things. Those are the basics" I replied.
"And your mom knows you don't know how to cook and she's fine with it?" Amanda further asked and I shrugged.
"She does and she has tried teaching me but I just believe the kitchen is not where I belong. I hate doing any work and cooking is one of the things I dislike" I said and Amanda pulled out a chopping board and began to chop some onions.
"That's so wrong. I just pray your husband will be an understanding man. Nowadays, men no longer want women who will prove to be liabilities to them" she simply said as she finished chopping the onions and got back to chopping peppers and then carrots.
"Whatever," I said. "What are you making?" I asked.
"Fried rice"
"Nice, I'll be in your room. Call me if you need anything" I said, about to leave the kitchen.
"Won't you help me?" She asked as she dried her hands on a hand towel.
"I can't cook, remember?" I said.
"You don't really have to know how to cook. I'll tell you what you have to do, just start off by chopping these green beans while I finish off with the carrots. Please?" she said and I heaved a tired sigh.
"Fine" I replied lazily as I joined her on the kitchen island.
In a few minutes, I was done with the green beans and she handed me the rest of the carrots while she prepared the meat stock.
"Amanda, are you done with the food?" I heard a very captivating baritone ring in the air and I immediately knew that it was Amanda's cousin.
"I'm still busy!" She hollered back.
"I'm hungry" I heard the voice get closer and I suddenly felt nervous and self-conscious.
"Please hurry up" and with that, he came into the kitchen.
Tall, muscular, handsome. These three words would describe him best. He had deep black dreads which he dyed the tips yellow and he had a tattoo of an anchor on his left arm. He also had an ear piercing with small silver studs on his right and left earlobes. A few mustaches that I considered cute and pink, broad lips with a pert nose and hazel shaped eyes. Deep brown eyes, the type that looked like brown mud mixed with a dash of woody brown. His eyebrows were full and so were his lashes and his skin was light and toned all at the same time.
Amanda never told me she had such an attractive cousin. He's so handsome!
I couldn't help but gush in ways that amused me.
I hope I'm not staring.
Oh, but I was. I stared like a huge doff and I mentally punched myself for that.
"Agozie, I'm still a bit busy. Wait a little jorr"Β Amanda said.
Suddenly his eyes met with mine and I immediately looked away and nervously continued to chop the carrots.
God! What is wrong with me?!
"Hi" I heard him say, this time he was a bit closer and I looked up to see him smirking at me.
"Hey" I replied back and couldn't help but wonder why I was acting suddenly nervous and feeling really shy all at the same time. I have never felt this way ever before.
"Can you please not flirt with my friend? Get out, I'll call you when the food is ready!" Amanda said as she grabbed his hand and led him out of the kitchen.
"Wait na, I was just getting to know her!" he protested as she dragged him out.
"Later, bye!" And with that she shut the kitchen door at his face and heaved an exasperated sigh.
"Who was that?" I asked, trying to act like I don't already know who the heck he is.
"My cousin. He's staying with us for a few days cause he just moved here and hasn't gotten a house yet. Don't mind him jare. Let's finish up" she said and with that, she returned back to what she was doing and I did same, but regretting why she had to ruin my chances of talking to him.
I am definitely sleeping over now!
