I will never fly with Hobbs again.
Deckard's POV
I smiled at the sight of Isa, fast asleep on my shoulder. She looked so radiantโour twins. We decided to keep their genders and names a secret, mainly because we didn't want anyone else telling us what to do. Plus, my mother will be staying with us for a while. On top of that, we bought a new house that will serve as our main residence. However, we won't move there until we're ready; we'll still keep the house we're currently in.
As Isa and Hattie drifted off to sleep, I sensed Hattie was suspicious of Isa. She thought I didn't notice all the glances she directed at my wife, but I did. As much as I wanted to protect my sister, I couldn't respect her behavior.
I overheard Hobbs say, "Couldn't you have booked an emergency row for a little more legroom? Not everyone has Hobbit legs like you."
I looked at him. It was worse having to deal with Owen, but Hobbs was more annoying. Owen had been more troublesome as a toddler, while Hattie was generally well-behaved.
I said, "Hey, look, in case you didn't realize, I could give a damn about your comfort. I only care about my wife and her comfort, so why don't you be a good elephant, suck up another kilo of peanuts, and put your chair back and relax?"
I glanced back at Isa, who was still fast asleep. Isa is a deep sleeperโsame goes for Hattie. Owen was watching a movie, and soon he fell asleep too, but I knew he was listening. No matter how much Owen annoyed me, we were close in our own ways.
Hobbs, in an annoyed voice, said, "All right, listen, don't ever tell me to relax, all right? Don't tell me to do anything. Anytime you say anything, it makes me wanna take my boot and shove it so far up your ass that you're gonna be spitting out shoelaces all week. Hey, do you know what the problem is? I'll tell you. This job requires stealth. And youโlook at you. It's not your fault, but you're too obvious. You stick out. Like balls on a bulldog, dangling down in all the wrong places. Seemingly harmless. And the next thing you know, they're trying to impregnate your sister."
I raised an eyebrow. "What? Impregnate your sister?"
Hobbs, in shock, said, "Oh... now I get it."
I smirked. "You do? Good, I'm glad."
Hobbs said, "Mm-hmm."
I nodded, "Yeah, I'm thrilled."
Hobbs continued, "So, you actually think I'm going through all this effort, on this mission to save the world, for the fourth timeโbecause I'm really good at itโjust so I can do the horizontal hula, sexy-time with your sister?"
I shot back, "Not all. Most."
Hobbs laughed, "Let me break it down for you, Frodo: This ain't 1955 anymore. Even though the girl sleeping right there is related to you, she's still one of the toughest, baddest, most capable women I've ever met. And if she chooses to look the way of this big brown, well-endowed, tattooed mountain of a man, then guess what? I'm gonna let her climb this mountain, over and over and over again."
I was growing annoyed at Hobbs. I knew Hattie's love life was none of my business, but I wanted to protect my sister. With my big brother voice, I said, "Stay away from my sister, and my wife for that matter. I see what you're doing. Do you think I'm stupid?"
Hobbs shot back, "Of course I think you're stupid, but you know what? I'll do you a favor. I'll knock that dumb right out of your skull. You say the word, Jack."
I glared at him. "You know what I wanna do? I wanna do an Irish jig on your ugly face at 30,000 feet."
Hobbs smirked. "Oh, 30,000 feet? Yeah, so you wanna dance right now?"
I grinned. "Yeah."
Hobbs laughed. "The only thing holding you back is air and opportunity. There goes the air."
I said, "Bring it on, bunghole."
Someone said, "That's enough! Hey, cut it out, both of you!"
I sighed in frustration. I had to deal with Hattie giving my wife the evil eye, Owen bugging me, and Hobbs being super annoying. Then Hobbs, in the same tone as mine, said, "Look what you did, you woke the air marshal."
The air marshal, who had been quietly observing, spoke up. "How did you know I was an air marshal?"
Hobbs smirked. "Unaccompanied."
I added, "Late board the plane."
Hobbs and I both said at the same time, "Golf shirt."
The air marshal said, "Well, let's just call that an educated guess. Air Marshal Dinkley, at your service."
Hobbs, not hearing his name clearly, said, "I'm sorry, did you say Dink Lick?"
The air marshal didn't skip a beat. "What's the problem? Understand this, big fella. It's my job to observe. Thick neck, your head's been on a swivel since you've been on this damn plane. Every passenger that's gotten on, you've been checking out. You're a lawman. And you"โhe looked at meโ"Mister Almighty Pants, you're a spy. The person right next to you is your wife, and next to her is your sister. Your whole family? Spies."
Hobbs, impressed, said, "That's pretty good."
I nodded. "Eh, not bad."
Air Marshal Dinkley grinned. "I get it. We're all big guys, the three of us. Alphas. Three apex predators cooped up in the sky. Tensions get high. What are you benching, big fella? 300, 400 pounds?"
Hobbs laughed. "A little less."
The air marshal chuckled. "Yeah, light work. I'm doing the same thing. Slagging weight, clanging and banging. What are you into? Hot yoga? Pilates? I'm probably messing around in a hot takai. You wanna know what I do? I sit in a can of farts all day long. Occasionally deal with a terrorist or two, and a lotta recycled air. I'd give anything to be on the front lines again."
Hobbs, clearly needing a hearing check, asked, "Again?"
I raised an eyebrow. "What?"
Just then, I felt Isa move next to me. Her back was in pain, and the twins were active. I gently placed my hand on her leg.
The air marshal said, "I was a compartment element for JSOC."
I blinked. "You were at Delta?"
He nodded. "Sabre Squad Echo. 24/7, baby."
Hobbs raised an eyebrow. "Echo? Those guys were like warlocks, because of the magic they could do."
I nodded. "That's right."
Air Marshal Dinkley grinned. "Well, if that's the case, I'm saying abracadabra, bitches. You're looking at the magic. Your problem? Your balance is off. You need a third squaddie."
I shook my head. "No, no, no. There's no way I'm putting this man in danger. I need to save my sister's life, and protecting my wife is the most important thing to me."
Hobbs frowned. "No."
Air Marshal Dinkley shrugged. "I know the game. Ya hear me? I know the game." He deepened his voice.
I frowned. "What are you doing?"
Air Marshal Dinkley said, "What do you mean, what am I doing?"
I shook my head. "Don't talk like that."
Hobbs nodded. "You sound different."
The air marshal laughed. "Do I?"
I said, "Use your regular voice."
He grinned. "This is my regular voice. I'm talking like the warlocks talk, baby."
Hobbs said, "They don't talk like that."
Air Marshal Dinkley shrugged. "I'm just showing you, that's all, guys. All I'm saying is I can complete this holy trinity you've got."
Hobbs smirked. "Three would be too much." I silently agreed, though I'd never tell him that.
Air Marshal Dinkley whipped out a card. "That's my resume. This is my card. If you need anything, I'm your guy. Want a citation X? A G5? A boring 747? A helicopter? Something stealthy? I'm an air marshal. I've got it all."
Hobbs took the card and nodded, while Air Marshal Dinkley smiled and went back to his seat.
I leaned back in my chair and fell into a deep sleep.
The next thing I knew, I was awakened by Isa talking. I smiled. "Good morning, my love. How did you sleep?"
Isa smiled up at me and replied, "Morning, babe. It would have been better if you and Hobbs hadn't been bickering." I gazed at her, admiring how pretty she looked despite not having had enough sleep. I leaned in and kissed her gently. "Tell you what, before the babies arrive, you and I will take a trip and relax. Believe me, I'm never flying with Hobbs again."
Isa smiled. "I'd love that! Yes, we definitely need a getaway from everyone and everything."
I grinned. "Let's eat." I looked around and saw Hobbs, Owen, and Hattie still asleep. I smiled as I ate my breakfast, giving Isa my cake since her cravings were strong.
Later, Hobbs, Hattie, and Owen woke up and joined us for breakfast, where Hobbs kept asking for more. As soon as the plane landed, we gathered our things and stepped out into the fresh Moscow air. I made sure Isa's jacket was on her before we stepped outside.
