Consonants
There are 14 basic consonants in Korean and five double consonants formed from the basic consonants ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅅ, and ㅈ respectively.
Basic Consonants ::
ㄱ :: 기역 - giyeok (g/k)
Eg :: kettle, again
The mid word is often close to the g sound while closer to k sound at the beginning of the word.
Easy way to remember :: This consonant looks like gun and the consonant is g.

ㄴ :: 니은 - nieun (n)
Eg :: nice, no
Easy way to remember :: This consonant looks like nose.

ㄷ :: 디귿 - digeud (d/t)
Eg: to, steady, hat
Midword it is often closer to 'd' sound, while closer to 't' sound at the beginning and end of the word.

ㄹ :: 리을 - rieul (r/l)
Eg: rent, orator, stale
Often sounds more like an 'r' or combination of 'r/l' sound at the beginning of the word.

ㅁ :: 미음 - mieum (m)
Eg: mom, mouth, amount, harm

ㅂ :: 비읍 - bieup (b/p)
Eg: pick, about, top
Midword it is often close to a 'b' sound, while closer to 'p' sound at the beginning of a word.
Easy way to remember :: This consonant looks like a bucket with water and it is spelled like b in bucket.

ㅅ :: 시읏 - siot (s)
Eg: sail, respond, standing, hat
Makes an 's' sound in most cases, but changes to 'sh' when combines with the letter 'ㅣ' or an iotized vowel (vowels with the 'y' sound at the beginning)
Easy to remember :: This consonant looks like a person standing and it is spelled like s in standing.

ㅇ :: 이응 - ieung (ng)
Eg: hanger, song
Silent when it is the first character in a syllable otherwise, it makes the 'ng' sound.

ㅈ :: 지읒 - jieut (j/ch)
Eg: chain, injury, hat
Midword it is often closer to a 'j' sound, while closer to 'ch' sound at the beginning of a word. When written stroke 1 and 2 are often combined into one stroke.

ㅊ :: 치읓 - chieut (ch)
Aspirated version of ㅈ - has a hard 'ch' sound.

ㅋ :: 키읔 - kieuk (k)
Aspirated version of ㄱ - has a hard 'k' sound.

ㅌ :: 티읕 - tieut (t)
Aspirated version of ㄷ - has a hard 't' sound.

ㅍ :: 피읖 - pieup (p)
Aspirated version of ㅂ - has a hard 'p' sound.

Eg: hat, ahead, heh

ㄲ :: ssang giyok (gg)
Eg: gone
Double Consonant version of ㄱ - sounded with more emphasis than the single version.

ㄸ :: ssang digeut (dd)
Double Consonant version of ㄷ - sounded with more emphasis than the single version.

ㅃ :: ssang bieup (bb)
Double Consonant version of ㅂ - sounded with more emphasis than the single version.

Double Consonant version of ㅅ - sounded with more emphasis than the single version.
