Interview with Udeesha

Interviewer - Jimochi ( astral_being_ )
Author - Udeesha ( may_bornmia )
Jimochi - Hello udeesha! I am Jimochi, your interviewer. Please introduce yourself.
Udeesha - Hey there! I'm Udeesha, 03 liner, and an avid music listener. I like all kinds of music, and love to watch anime as well.
Writing is my passion, and I also like to sing and dance. Basically, everything that doesn't require academic skills, haha!
Jimochi - That's cool! What made you motivated to write books?
Udeesha - Well, it's a little story, to be honest. I got into writing when I was 13, and while my mom was admitted to a hospital for surgery, I started writing a rough draft of some Disney movie XD
Then, I got into the world of fanfictions, and I tried and posted a book, just to see how it goes. Fortunately, it went well, and ever since then, I've been writing online. Other than that, I write poems and some original books too.
All in all, it was just the idea of trying to see how far I go, which motivated me to write books.
Jimochi - That's really amazing! I see that you wrote 21 books on Wattpad. Where do you get ideas to write these amazing books? I mean it takes a lot of patience to write one book but you wrote 27!
Udeesha - Haha, thank you! I actually never really search for ideas. I have a little jar of ideas beside my bed, where I put chits of ideas that I have, and later on, I develop those ideas. I never force ideas on myself and my stories.
Jimochi - Wow! What is your writing process like?
Udeesha - Initially, I just think a LOT about the ideas that I have, and pen down the scenarios that could possibly occur throughout the story of that particular idea. Then I make the book covers, because that's my favourite part, hehe.
Next, I try to get myself to write the first chapter, and since the first chapter makes the first impression, I just let my ideas flow roughly, and then rewrite it later on, whenever I feel like I'm in the mood to write it. Upon getting the response from the readers, I correct some things, and then I write like there's no other thing left for me to do!
Jimochi - God! I need to learn a lot from you. How do you process and deal with negative book reviews?
Udeesha - Thank you, I'm so flattered :)
Well, I, fortunately, don't receive a lot of negative reviews, but when I do, I ask them for the points where I could've improved; or if they are hating due to some scene they don't like, I try to explain it to them. It's all up to them to understand, you know. I just try to give my best.
Jimochi - What do the words "writer's block" mean to you? Have you ever had it? If you did, how did you go through it?
Udeesha - Ah, yes! Writer's block! It's literally the toughest thing for me to go through. I've had it a few times, and every time, I went through a lot of frustration and disappointment. Although I come out of it writing better than the previous time, it's pretty difficult.
What I would like to recommend is something that I've tried to do every time I go through it: let yourself rest and not force it. Collect ideas from all around. Drink some coffee and talk to people. And when you finally have some hope for writing, then don't start off with a full-fledged chapter — just try writing a little piece. Like, for me, I wrote about rainfall and the raindrops on the leaves. It gives you some practice and starts you with a will to write again.
Jimochi - Thank you for your advice! I would surely follow it.
Who is your favourite author?
Udeesha - In real life, I'm still a huge fan of William Shakespeare! Nothing can beat his writing, seriously!
On Wattpad, I like pocketbangtan
Jimochi - Ohh! I like 'The Merchant Of Venice' book written by him.
Moving on, what comes first for you — the plot or the characters — and why?
Udeesha - I like King Lear.
But yeah, moving on! XD
I cannot exactly choose between the plot or the characters, because this decision differs in all my stories. For some, like Sugar Daddy, the characters were more important. And for my upcoming book Awake, I would choose the plot. The decision between the plot and the characters makes a difference every time.
For instance, I cannot write a story focused on the characters when the storyline is supposed to be given more importance.
Jimochi - Yes, I agree with you. Now coming to your books, you have written 27 books. Which one is your favourite?
Udeesha - Personally, I cannot choose any book to be my favourite, because they're literally like my children. I grew them, nurtured them, and made them what they are. I definitely cannot choose anyone!
Jimochi - Wow! You seemed to enjoy every book you wrote.
What part of the book was the most fun to write? What part of the books did you have the hardest time writing?
Udeesha - Basically, I mostly write two kinds of books: either tragic and depressing or romcoms. So I personally feel that the hardest parts are those of the first and the last chapters. Openings and endings are the most important parts of a story, as per me. The rest of the journey is pretty easy!
Especially for the tragic ones: the hardest parts are the endings and the way they're expressed.
Jimochi - Yes, we need to express the emotions and the feelings of the character. That might get pretty hard. So, How long did it take you to write a book?
Udeesha - It depends on what my mood is like every day. if I am in a happy and cheerful mood for the most part, then the romcoms would get more updates and vice versa. For example, Sugar Daddy ended pretty soon because I was happier at that time.
Jimochi - Haha, Gotta keep you happy cause we will get more updates.
Udeesha - Haha
Jimochi - How did you come up with the title for your books?
Udeesha - That is the most random thing I do. I just come up with the weirdest names and then try to match them with the theme of the story. I don't have any other explanation for them.
Jimochi - Lmao- you know you rock!
Udeesha - Thank youuu
Jimochi - What characters in your book are most similar to you or to people you know?
Udeesha - Alright, so let me tell you this: all my characters are from real life. I observe people and their traits and picture them in different scenarios. Also, Aisha in Sugar Daddy was my impression, because it just seemed appropriate. No self-inserts, though! XD
Jimochi - Wow- I seriously need to read Sugar Daddy now. I read 'Do you remember'. It was really good. It made me cry. The emotions- I have no words to say.
Udeesha - Aww, that's so sweet of you! I'm glad you liked it! <3
Jimochi - Can you express how it feels when people start to read, comment, and vote for your book?
Udeesha - It's, like, the best feeling ever. I genuinely wait for people to start interacting with the story as soon as I post something. It really motivates me to write more.
Jimochi - Yes. I feel you. Every author feels happy when people start to read their books.
What advice do you have for writers?
Udeesha - My only advice to my fellow writers is to follow your heart when you write. Negative comments may come for you, but if you express yourself freely in your work, then not only would it be completely unique and better, but also receive recognition for your individuality. Being influenced is normal, but you won't be satisfied until you express YOURSELF. It's your story, write it as you would! All the best!
Jimochi - That's Very Kind! Thanks for the advice. Our interview ends here. This is my first interview and I had fun interviewing you. You really inspired us with your words and I learned a lot from you. Finally, thank you for giving us your time.
Udeesha - No need to thank me! I had fun doing this! Thanks, have a lovely day!
