I wrote this poem because I was tired of being recognized at my college. I was tired of existing as one of the only black kids at a primarily white institution. I felt like I was being put under a microscope (whether I was or wasn't) and it sucked. If you're a minority or part of a marginalized community who's tired of feeling different, or even if you aren't, I hope you enjoy this poem :)

I don't want to be on display
Crystals hanging off of my cleavage and afloat on a parade
I don't want people to watch me on the tv
take what they need from me then leave me
I like to feel important but I'm not
And everything ends up being my fault
So I don't want the world to see me trip and fall
And when I die I hope nobody cares at all
