III.

Well, welcome back. I'm still editing chapters, but they have been written (for the most part). So here's chapter 3!

xxxxxx

"Caroline?"

Caroline stays where she's seated, not daring to turn around. She slowly lets out a breath, mentally preparing herself. "Hi Klaus," She mutters slowly.

"I'm just. . .gonna go back to the house! I'll see you later, Caroline!" She hears Bonnie say to her quickly after she downs her drink and walks out of the bar.

Caroline glares at the spot Bonnie previously occupied and looks away once Klaus sits down next to her. "House?" Klaus inquires and looks at her curiously.

"Seriously? 'House?' is the first thing you ask about after all these years? Not about why I'm here? Not even an 'I missed you Caroline'? Are you freaking kidding me?!" Caroline gets up quickly, pays her bill, and walks out. She knows Klaus is following her, and while she didn't exactly want him too, she knew he wasn't going to give up. But seriously? House is the first word she hears from him talking directly to her other than her name for the first time in thirteen years?

She knows that if she had looked at him at the bar, she would have broken down completely, and then it wouldn't have stopped, and she would have made a scene. She refuses to cry in front of people she didn't know, and she definitely didn't want to cry publicly. She walks into an alley and stands still. She hears Klaus' quiet footsteps come to a standstill a few paces behind her.

"You know that I missed you, Caroline." The hybrid tells her, and he has never lied to her. Not once. He always means every word that he tells her.

Caroline feels tears in her eyes already, and she braces herself and turns around to face the man behind her. She looks up at him and into the light blue of his eyes and tears immediately begin to fall from her own.

She walks over to him slowly, stopping a few inches in front of him. Klaus holds out his arms, having known something was wrong when she had her small outburst in the bar, and had walked out as quickly as she could without using her vampire speed.

She quickly walks into his arms, wraps her own around his waist and tightly buries her face into the side of his neck. She breathes in his scent, and it slowly brings her a sense of calm.

He holds onto her tightly, stroking her hair gently trying to soothe her. "Love, what's the matter? Why are you upset sweetheart?" He asks her gently, and Caroline shakes her head.

"So many things have happened since we last talked. I had two girls, who are my entire world, but you're the only one who can help me long term, and I don't know how to cope with Stefan and Ricboth being gone even though they've been gone for five years!" She rambles and runs her hand through her blonde curls as she steps back slightly from him.

"Caroline-" Klaus started.

Caroline acted like she didn't hear him. "I don't know how to raise teenagers! When I was turned, I was told I could never have kids, and I was fine with that! And now that I do have kids, I need help. I just," She took a breath and looked away from him. "I need your help, Klaus ," She mumbles, looking down at her boots.

Klaus lifts her chin so she is  looking at him. "Love, I will always be here for you, you know that sweetheart. Why do you need my help?" He asks her gently, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I just need you, Klaus. I need the man who chose me over everyone else in my life, who always chose me as his first choice, who made sure I was happy and safe. I need the man who makes me smile. I need the man who never chose revenge over me. I need the only person who could make me happy again. Truly happy." She closes her eyes so she wasn't looking at him, tears springing behind her eyelids. "Because Alaric is dead, and so is Stefan and I'm raising twin teenage girls by myself," She takes a deep breath, and she opens her eyes, seeing Klaus still standing in front of her. His fingers are tracing her cheeks and softly rubbing away her tears. He was watching her movements carefully, assessing her, gaging her emotions. "You were the only one I was never second to, you were the only one who chose me first, and you are the only one who knows me. Really knows me. Knows me for who I am, instead of what I am, who doesn't judge me for being me, tells me that I'm full of light, and beautiful, and that he'd wait for me. . .for however long it took." She trails off, and she hears Klaus sigh.

He leans his forehead against Caroline's gently. "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to hear you say that you needed me. Wanted me." He whispered. "I would've waited an infinite amount of time for you, Caroline." He tells her, truth coating his voice completely.

Caroline looks up at him, feeling another wave of tears fill her eyes. "I'm sorry," She laughs quietly. "I shouldn't be crying. It's just. . .I have no idea what to do anymore." Caroline looks down and away, wiping her eyes, and then looks up at a serious looking Klaus.

"If you let me, I'll be with you. Always, my love." He says, cupping her jaw in his hand.

She nods at his words, leaning into his touch heavily. "I always want you with me." She tells him. She looks back up at Klaus with a smile. She placed her hands on his face, leaning her forehead against his when he leaned down. They stay like that for a few minutes, just relishing in the contact and closeness they haven't felt in thirteen years.

"Oh!" Caroline grins at him, breaking the silence. "I maybe, sorta, like. . .i dont know. . .live in New Orleans now? With the twins?" She says sheepishly and he jerks back and looks at her.

"You live in New Orleans? Where?" he asks, shocked. He didn't think she would ever live permanently in New Orleans.

"Just outside the quarter. It's the old Lahay Plantation that was built like 70 years ago or something. I don't know." Caroline smiles up at him and is surprised when he picks her up in a hug and spins her around.

She squeals and laughs as he sets her down.. "Come on, I'll take us and give you a tour of the house, and then I want you to meet my daughters, and then I want to meet Hope again. I haven't seen her since she was a baby when Kol introduced me to her on the phone when she was about a year old." She tells him, and he shakes his head with a fond smile.

"I'll follow your lead, sweetheart," he tells her, kissing her head.

Caroline speeds off, willing Klaus to chase her.

She feels stronger, faster than she ever has.

She feels like she was being given a blood boost. She speeds past Klaus and makes it to her doorstep before he did. Klaus looks at her, eyes wide. "How did you beat me here?"

Caroline shrugs. "I have no idea. I felt a sudden burst of what felt like magic when I started running and it made me faster." She tells him like it was the most normal thing in the world and walks into her house. She stops in the foyer with Klaus and calls for Bonnie and her girls.

"Bonnie! Lizzie, Josie!" About 10 seconds later she hears three pairs of feet running down the halls. Josie came into view first, then Bonnie, and last but not least Lizzie.

Bonnie stops in her tracks when she sees Klaus, but nods at him and continues walking with the girls to him and Caroline. "Hybrid," she greets, a sly grin on her face.

Klaus nods back. "Witch," Klaus smirks at her.

Caroline rolls her eyes at them, looking at her girls, both of which were staring at Klaus in awe. "Girls, I'd like you to meet someone. Someone extremely special to me, someone who helped me when I was younger. This is Klaus Mikaelson." She takes Klaus' hand, watching the girls both wave shyly.

"Hello girls. It's lovely to meet you. I've heard so much about you," Klaus smiles at them and kneels to their level. Josie looks at him through narrowed eyes crossing her arms and looking away from him.. Lizzie smacks her, and Josie shoves her with a "hey!"

"Girls, knock it off," Caroline scolds.

Lizzie moves away from her sister and sticks her hand out to shake Klaus' and introduces herself. "My name's Lizzie! It's nice to meet the man mom has told us so much about."

"Well hello there, Lizzie. I hope she's not told you all about me," Klaus smiled at her, and Lizzie grins, all teeth, looking so much like her mother it stuns Klaus momentarily.

"Oh she has. She just never told us how handsome you were!" Lizzie says cheekily, and Klaus laughs.

"Elizabeth!" Caroline hisses and Lizzie skips away from them and drags Josie with her.

"Bye Klaus!" She yells as she drags a scolding Josie away from the adults.

"Well," Bonnie smirks. "That was..."

"Humiliating." Caroline finishes.

"Oh love, it was not. The both of them are absolutely adorable. Hope will love them. I do believe Rebekah will as well," Klaus grins.

Caroline blanches. "Rebekah doesn't like me," she mumbles, and Klaus takes her hand, giving Bonnie a look, at which she starts walking back to her room.

"I'll be in my room unpacking if you need me, Care," she says.

"Rebekah doesn't hate you, Caroline. She was jealous of you for having what she wanted," he tells her, pulling her in for a hug, which she happily returns. She wraps her arms around him and puts her head underneath his chin, where he rests it gently.

"I don't think I'm ready to see her yet," she whispers. "Soon, but not right now. Can we spend a few hours together, just you and me?" She asks, and he kisses her head.

Klaus nods, "I know a perfect spot for us to go too. Follow me, my love," he says, and speeds out of the front door, Caroline right on his heels.
