"So, who the hell was that extra person talking in your head, Failsafe?" Wallace pestered us, leaning over the counter as the group flocked inside of the kitchen. Kaldur'ahm nudged him with his elbow for the curse, but he ignored it. M'gann was making cookies, again.

Robin stared at us through his sunglasses, expectedly. "What did Batman want to talk about?"

We shook our head, "He was displeased with our performance. And, that 'extra person' is us," We explained.

"I don't understand why Batman had to personally pull you aside, we all made mistakes during the mission, Failsafe. you didn't do anything wrong that would make him so upset with you," Kaldur'ahm said, clearly troubled. We shook our head again.

"He thinks we have a problem with teamwork," We mumbled, another conversation with Batman where we stood there as he lectured us. He thinks he has a problem with many things, teamwork was just one on a long list of things. His lectures were quite repetitive.

"I haven't seen any problems," Robin pointed out.

"We've only been on one mission," Wallace muttered.

The younger boy furrowed his eyebrows. The ginger turned his attention back to us, we got the pan out from storage as M'gann started adding the flour mixture to the sugar blend.

"He said we need to engage with the Team more, and share our thoughts when applicable," We explained as we set the pan down, and despite our usual monotone voice, we think we got the point across of how tired we were of hearing those lectures. He'd also said we needed to stop holding ourselves back, to fight with more purpose. Again, very repetitive.

"Your performance was good enough, that still doesn't explain why he was so upset with you specifically," Kaldur'ahm pointed out, Robin nodded along. We sensed an increasing curiosity driven by a human emotion we weren't familiar with.

Humans have a lot of emotions. Many of which they don't need. The exact opposite of us. It wasn't as if we could change that, however, for our species' emotions were a curse. Something to be culled as it prevented impartiality and fairness. It's not something we agree with, and maybe, if we had more of her memory, we would have been more biased. But we don't. So it doesn't bother us.

"We think Batman and us are very similar. But he is human, and we are not. And thus we have different values. He believes in his mission, as do we. But we have different ways we go about that mission, and we think that it's because of our similarities and our differences that Batman fundamentally misunderstands us," We stated, helping M'gann shape the cookie dough and placing it on the tray.

"...What kinda mission?" Wallace asked, hesitant. The atmosphere of the room shifted at that moment.

"Give way to a bright future, and to create a hero that may lead the way into that future," We tried smiling to help, but something about how the boys stared at us told us that maybe we did it wrong. They looked, unnerved, bordering on uncomfortable. We should have known better than to try copying their emotions, we've never been able to get it right before, when we tried it with the adults, but they didn't like our attempts either, so we stopped trying to learn to emulate the useless chemical reactions.

And yet, we tried for them.

"And about the question from earlier," Our face became neutral again as we wanted to end this line of questioning quickly, "There is no other person. We are one. That voice was just, part of us."

"So you've got voices in your head? Great," He crossed his arms, standing up straight. Robin elbowed him in the side, "Ow."

"We all have our quirks and differences, making fun of others for being different from you will only drive this Team apart," Kaldur'ahm spoke up. We nodded.

"I know that. I'm just saying that yesterday on the mission it was distracting with just one voice. If she's got multiple in there then that mind linking things going to get annoying fast."

(Y/n) was silent.

"Deal with it." Kaldur'ahm sneered.

M'gann put her cookies in the oven, clapping her hands. A satisfied smile placed itself on her lips, "Well, I didn't want to mention anything before since Failsafe seemed uncomfortable about it, but maybe we could talk to her other voice?"

She stopped herself before adding, we could see her own curiosity at work, "I mean, if we know more about our Teammate then things'll go better in the field, won't it?"

We sighed, "If you all would like that, we suppose we could open up."

Robin, Wallace, and Kaldur'ahm nodded. Not a second later M'ganns eyes flashed white.

'Fucking LOVE air hockey, call next Failsafe, call next!' (Y/n) urged.

Wallace was eating a banana and playing air hockey with Kaldur'ahm, it seemed each side was matched from our understanding of the rules of the game, which seemed to be a lot. We enjoyed hockey and air hockey in youth.

"Recognized: Superboy, B04," The computer voiced out, Robin and we turned around as Superboy angrily approached out of the teleporter.

"Hi, Superboy. How was Metropolis?" M'gann asked, her voice wasβ€” (Y/n), what is that tone?

'I think she likes him~'

'Informative.'

M'gann's voice was filled with like for Superboy.

He stormed past us and Robin, through the air hockey table and past Wallace and Kaldur'ahm, and without even looking M'gann's way, past her as well. He only stopped his angry walk back to his room when Black Canary cleared her throat to get everyone's attention.

"Ready for training, everyone?"

The blond woman walked to the center of the room, Martian Manhunter walked past her, over to his niece.

"Black Canary. Uncle J'onn!" M'gann flew over to meet him, hugging her uncle.

"M'gann," Martian Manhunter awkwardly wrapped an arm around his niece, clearly not used to displaying such affection to family in public, maybe at all, "I was in the neighborhood..." he trailed off. It was clear to see he was coming up with this excuse as he was going along, "So I thought I'd see how you were adjusting."

"A few bumps but I'm learning!" M'gann assured enthusiastically, it seemed she didn't notice his transparency.

"That's all I can ask," He sighed. Hugging her tighter before letting go. We looked away, back to Canary as her voice echoed off the walls.

"Stick around,"

"Class is in session."

We see Superboy from the opposite side of the room crossing his arms over his chest, he doesn't seem to be in too good of a mood.

Black Canary activates the combat simulator, the floor turning white with a blue hue around the circle's edge.

"I consider it an honor to be your teacher," She prefaced as she took off her blue jacket, being left only in her black boots, matching long-sleeved shirt, black choker, and gray tights. She had a bandage on her arm and a tear on her jacket showing it.

"I'll throw a lot at you, everything I've learned from my own mentors." She grunted in pain as she got the jacket past her bandaged area, but she continued to pull it off.

"And my own bruises." She groaned, holding her wrapped arm.

"What happened?" M'gann asked, worriedly.

"The job," Canary replied as she threw the jacket away.

We exhaled. Batman didn't allow us to go on the mission she was talking about. He said it was too dangerous for us to fight the android when there are other Leaguers who could. If the robot copied people's powers, then we were the last thing it should encounter.

While his fear was well founded, Batman continually dismissed our usefulness when he'd seen firsthand what we were capable of. From what we could do, the smallest trinket attached to that robot would never be seen again. (Y/n) very much advocate for that happening, saying it would be so cool, and funny, like a television show, or a video game.

"Now, combat is about controlling conflict. Putting the battle on your terms. You should always be acting, never reacting," She taught us, before lightening her tone and crossing her arms above her chest.

"I'll need a sparring partner."

She looked over all of us, we knew Wallace would raise his hand, so we didn't try.

'You could heal her, you know. That injury seems very painful,' (Y/n) pointed out.

'No, we can't. We won't. It would interfere with the universe.'

'So?'

'We work with the universe, it would be counterintuitive to heal her.'

"Right here," Wally shot his hand up, walking up to the taller woman, "Yeah. After this..."

He threw his banana peel to the floor. We teleported it to the garbage can in the kitchen. Garbage shouldn't be left on the floor like that. It's careless.

"I'll show you my moves." He pointed at her as she just stared at the boy before smirking, throwing a punch. He blocked it but as quick as his mentor she hit the ground and swept his feet out from under him, getting up to look down at the teenage boy groaning in pain on the floor.

On the floor, the system read. Kid Flash - Status: Fail.

"Oh man, hurts so good," Wallace groaned from below. Something can hurt, good? What? No. Oh. He was attempting to make a joke.

"Good block. But did anyone see what he did wrong?" Black Canary asked, helping Wallace up.

Robin raised his hand and made a sound to get Black Canary's attention, "Ooh, he hit on teacher and got served?" Robin laughed at his friend's misfortune again.

"Dude," Wallace warned, embarrassed.

'Dude, me and Robin? We'd be best friends.'

"He allowed me to dictate the terms of–" Black Canary was cut off by the still watching, and still angry, Superboy.

"Oh, please. With my powers, the battle's always on my terms. I'm a living weapon and this is a waste of my time," He spat out, pointing at himself. Living weapon, that phrase stuck out to us. What Superboy said, it was like he was talking about us. But, unlike Superboy, we didn't think this was a waste of our time.

"Prove it." Black Canary challenged.

Irked by her challenge he stepped up, Wallace backed away, still clutching his arm. We walked over to heal him, knowing we have a mission soon.

'So this is okay, but Canary isn't?'

'It won't interfere, it's just a bruise. Her injury is deeper, more rooted in time.'

'I did not understand any of that. But sure, Failsafe, sure.'

The two got into their fighting stances before Superboy threw a punch, Black Canary grabbed his arm, and he was on the floor before their fight began.

Next to us, Robin started chuckling violently, Aqualad jabbed him with his elbow for the boy to stop, but he continued to chuckle behind his hand.

'A friend after my own heart, Failsafe, I'm definitely going to make him my friend!' Our mind was set. Determination flowed through us like our blood.

'Friend? What makes a friend? How do we make Robin a friend?' We've never heard this label before, the fact that life forms label their relationships at all is baffling. Can't they just, let it be as it is?

'Don't you know his name? Why don't you use it for starters?'

'Different dimensions, different rules. He didn't tell us his name here, so we don't know it. That's how it works.'

'But you could at least tell me what his name might be, right?'

'No.'

'Bummer. Guess I'll figure it out myself. Ooh, like a puzzle!'

'Like Batman?'

'Mmm, Nah. I don't think I could be that depressed all the time. It's too much energy to have no energy.'

'That statement makes no logical sense.'

'Hi, it's nice to meet you.'

Our confusion had become never-ending.

'But, seriously, friendship? I can't explain that to you, Failsafe, because everyone has their own definition of the word. But, it's just, it's kinda like, like this, see?' We were shown images of life before we became a hero, of a group of girls and boys having fun together, crying, laughing, helping each other with homework, and with troubling situations. Listening to each other talk, ranting to each other as the other listened, being there for each other.

It was a perfect, beautiful example of human relationships. We pushed the memories back down inside the depths of our mind. We focused back on Canary's and Superboy's fight as Superboy got up, growling at how the woman so casually took him down.

She stood over him, confident but tensed, waiting. "You're angry. Good. But don't react. Channel that anger into,"

He charged at her before she could finish, she flipped over him as he tried to punch her from behind and got his legs swept out from under him.

She tried helping him up, but he swatted her hand away and got up himself. "That's it. I'm done." He sounded much more annoyed now. She placed a hand on his shoulder, "Training is mandatory."

He shrugged her off. The simulation underneath them was deactivated and Batman's face appeared in front of us all.

"Batman to the Cave. Five hours ago a new menace attacked Green Arrow and Black Canary," Everyone crowed closer to the monitor as Batman explained the mission we weren't allowed to go on.

"The attacker was capable of studying then duplicating the powers and abilities of its opponents. Arrow called in reinforcements, which nearly proved disastrous as our foe gained more and more power with each new combatant."

"Whoa, one guy with the powers of the entire League?" Wallace muttered, amazed.

"In the end, it took eight Leaguers four hours to defeat and dismantle the android."

'Coulda had it done in four minutes.' (Y/n) grumbled. A picture of mass destruction washed through our head, a daydream of violence. We pushed that down and tried to erase it, we did not need that circulating in our head.

"An android? Who made it? T.O. Morrow?" Robin stepped up, wanting answers.

"Good guess, Robin but Red Tornado doesn't think so," Batman explained.

"The technology bears the signature of Professor Ivo," Martian Manhunter stepped up.

"Ivo? But Ivo's dead," Kaldur'ahm stated, his tone questioning as if the information he was saying was wrong. We searched our memory, was it?

It's so hazy now, but we think he isn't. We curse the limitations of our physical brain, which has locked many things away from us. And ever since we bonded to our human body, everything after August 28th seemed to cut off completely. It was something we'd been bothered by for a long time.

"So we all thought. Or hoped," Black Canary looked behind herself to Kaldur'ahm. It made us curious, what does it take for a human as good as a hero to wish you death?

"To make certain this threat is permanently neutralized we're sending two trucks carrying the android's parts to two separate S.T.A.R. Lab facilities in Boston and New York for immediate evaluation." The hologram switched from Batman's face to the map we'd be taking and then back to Batman, "Every precaution is being taken. We'll have four additional decoy trucks to create confusion in case Ivo or anyone tries to recover the remains. You will split into undercover teams to safeguard the two real trucks."

"Yes. Road trip." Wallace cheered.

"So now we take out your trash?" Superboy grumbled, staring at the hologram version of Batman straight in the eye. The masked man looked back down.

"You had something better to do?"

"Coordinates received. On our way." Aqualad checked his receiver, the beeping sound indicating that he had our destination.

And with that, we all went to get our gear for this mission and divided into groups.

'Failsafe, breathe in and out real quick?' We took in a deep breath before exhaling. 'Ah, you just got to love the smell of fresh air!'

'It has been a while since we've been outside the cave, yes,'

We sat on a yellow motorcycle concealed by bushes, it seemed they came in pairs because Aqualad and Miss Martian both had blue motorcycles, while Robin and Superboy had red motorcycles. Kid Flash had the second yellow bike.

The Leaguers accompanying the decoy trucks were out in the open with those trucks. Talking and leading workers into putting the parts of the robot into the trucks. The operation seemed to be going smoothly.

We put on our borrowed helmet, the black and white decorated safety object fit nicely around our head. It had our makeshift symbol on it, the top of a metal bolt with FS imprinted on it. Same as it had appeared on our chest when wearing our 'costume.'

The trucks headed out, and we followed Robin and Superboy as our truck, containing the real pieces of T.O. Morrows Amazo android, left.

Our truck turned to the right, splitting off from the other three, and the other half of our Team. Flying heroes circled their trucks in the air.

We drove our bike pretty quickly, (Y/n) being excited about riding a 'real motorcycle.' But we were still behind Superboy, Robin drove next to us.

"If dislike is the opposite of like, is disaster the opposite of aster? See, instead of things going wrong, they go right," He explained, waving his hand as he spoke.

"That makes sense to us. Is that not already an English word found in the dictionary?" We inquired. It wasn't, but we wouldn't know that unless we said it. Conversation was like going through motions, necessary actions that needed to be taken.

"That'd be so whelming."

"Indeed."

Superboy grunted. His bike revved and sped up, getting closer to the truck. We looked at Robin and he stared back before we sped up to be on both sides of Superboy.

"Uh, clearly, you're not feeling the aster. What's wrong?"

"Yes, Superboy, what is troubling you?"

"Canary. What business does she have teaching combat skills to a guy with super-strength?" Superboy growled.

'Someone's bitching,' (Y/n) sung.

"Taking down stronger guys is part of the gig. Canary learned that the hard way. Same with Batman, and, well, me," Robin empathized with the clone.

As soon as Robin was done talking the clone sped up his bike, away from us and Robin towards the back of the truck.

"Do not be discouraged, he only needs time to think, is all," We told the shorter boy.

"Yeah, yeah you're right." He nodded as best he could with the helmet.

We turned back to the road, hearing Robin gasp as black and green glowing robots shaped like the Earthen monkey started to attack the truck. Aqualad's voice cut in through our and Robin's comms.

"Robin, Superboy, Failsafe, our trucks under attack."

"Kind of figured," Robin grumbled.

The monkey robots gibbered and continued to laugh incessantly. We switched our ride to battle mode, flying over the truck, ripping off a couple of them at once using telekinesis.

The truck swerved as the monkeys tried to break in through the glass windows and attack the driver. We kept trying to throw them off as they continued to fly back on.

'That's not gonna work Failsafe, you gotta start breaking them, now!'

'Not yet.'

'Why?!'

'Because that is what Fate, what the universe, wants.'

'That's so stupid...'

'The universe has its reasons. We must follow them.'

'Sometimes it's hard to understand you.'

White energy appeared in our hands, glowing. We shot at the monkeys with that energy, destroying three instantly and damaging another two. We landed on the truck with a thud.

'Better?'

'I dunno. Is it, Failsafe?'

"Robot monkeys. Ha, ha. Totally Ivo's tweaked style!" Behind us, Robin laughed, a second later his battle drone shot at the monkey-like creatures from the sky.

With the cover of the drone, we went back to shooting them off the truck instead of destroying them.

"Hey, hey. Switch your ride to battle mode!" He yelled behind us, we furrowed our brows. No matter what we do the monkeys will get away, even with the drone we want the illusion that we're trying, unfortunately this won't stop any lectures, but at least it would lessen the amount of time we'd have to hear them.

We pulled Robin off his bike, setting him down on the truck. He took out two escrima sticks and started breaking monkeys.

"A little warning would be great next time!" He sounded annoyed but immediately jumped into combat, taking out escrima sticks.

We didn't respond, only going back to shooting off the monkeys from the truck as more started to hijack it. We noticed one near the window and shot at it. It fell off the truck but the jets on the monkey flew the robot back on the truck, getting destroyed by Robin.

Superboy jumped onto the truck, rattling it.

"Woah!" From the impact Robin almost fell off the truck, saving himself by flipping back. We weren't so lucky, we fell off the truck almost getting injured by the pavement below.

We hovered over the ground, biting the inside of our cheek as the truck took off. We flew back over the truck, landing softly on the solid metal frame. How disgraceful of us not to have prevented that, we knew it was coming but we were so preoccupied with making sure we didn't completely destroy the monkeys that we were too late to stop our fall.

"You okay?!" Robin asked, distracted. Still fighting monkeys, we steady ourselves before we start to push monkeys off the side again.

"As well as one can be when they fall off a moving vehicle."

"Heh, guess so," Robin seemed to be whelmed by our answer.

Superboy fought behind us, on the rear of the truck, ripping off the arms of the robotic monkeys angrily as they tried to jump up on his back.

On the rear door, monkeys use lasers embedded in their eyes to get through the sealed metal. The door flew off the moving vehicle, taking out more monkeys and sitting on the road, completely burned through.

We grabbed Robin again and hovered over the truck until it passed us, even as he protested and struggled for a few moments before realizing what we were going to do. Throwing the light acrobat into the truck to kick the two monkeys trying to secure Amazo's parts. He used a Batarang to destroy them for good as they blew up.

The drones created from Robin's and our's cycles switching to battle mode shot through the space to protect Robin but were both overrun by monkeys, just for extra precaution though, as the monkeys were bringing them down we knocked the drones into each other.

We cannot have anything interfere with this mission. It has to play perfectly.

"Yo, Failsafe, could appreciate the help!" Robin exclaimed as more monkeys suddenly appeared, we suspect they might be from earlier when we knocked them off. We shot at them, this time breaking them apart, there was no way we couldn't this time, besides, it was okay to take a few out now, the door was gone. The monkeys would succeed. No matter if we'd helped them or not. But still, we've been taught by the humans, mostly the Batman, that making sure, being 'one hundred percent' was better than risking chances.

Above us, still, on the roof, Superboy continued to fight with the monkeys, ripping them off as they gripped onto his back, one shot him in the eyes as the four connecting to his back flew him up and dropped him onto the road.

We don't have time to worry about them as more monkeys fly onto the scene, trying to get the box filled with Amazo's parts out of our grasp.

Superboy jumped from where he landed, going so high up for a moment it might've looked like he was unaffected by gravity, that he was flying and not falling. And then he landed on the top of the truck, shaking and rattling everything, shattering that illusion.

"Failsafe, lift me up!" Robin yelled, reaching out for our hand, we grabbed it, throwing him up onto the roof. We suppose that's his way of dealing with the ones making another hole in the truck from the top.

As soon as Robin's on top of the roof we trash all the robots inside, deactivating them and transmuting their bodies into a collection of their joint molecules with a snap of our fingers, teleporting that into our room at the cave. It will be useful later.

'You couldn't have done that before?'

'We remember the saying, 'trust in the process,' is one that is used very many times. Would one like to enlighten one about how that usually goes?'

'Um, heheh, yeah, so, I have no more comments.'

We stayed inside of the truck as more monkeys came inside, going back to regular hand-to-machine combat with extra energy pulsing around our fists and legs, as to make sure our body is not injured.

They kept coming, and we heard the fighting from above was getting more intense. The other two would be overrun soon, and when that happened we would have to step back and let the universe take its course.

The truck swerved, and we knocked into a wall before falling to the floor, our neck being supported by the end of the truck and our hair batted around in the wind as our head leaned off the ending of the truck.

The robotic monkeys took their chance, beaty green eyes stared into ours as they trampled on top of us, trying to carry us off the truck to drop us away. We set them ablaze as their metal melted and pooled onto the floor.

"Get out!" We hear Robin yell from outside, loud enough for everyone to hear.

Not a moment later, the truck tipped over, skidding on the road before rolling until it was upside down. We put our soles on the floor and oriented ourselves to be adapted to being upside down as more monkeys fly into the truck's open door.

We don't fight them this time. We let them take the android parts. But we know Batman will be mad at us if we don't have proof we 'tried,' so we shoot down one out of the seven that entered, letting the other six fly outside the van before shooting down another. Letting five fly away with Amazo.

We hopped out of the truck as Superboy lifted the thing off from on top of him. Robin is by the cornfields that have surrounded us all this time, helping the scared driver calm his racing heart. We can see him focusing on the monkeys from the corner of his eyes.

Breathing heavily, Superboy wiped his burned eyes and opened them, he looked around, grunting angrily before finding the retreating monkeys in the sky. He jumped to go after them.

"Superboy!" Robin yelled out in vain. We heard the Atlantean from our comm too, we jumped up, easily floating in the air as we tried to get high enough to see where Superboy would be by now. We knew he'd get to a train before he and Amazo's fight would be taken to Gotham city and Gotham Academy, but getting too far ahead of ourselves was dangerous.

"Aqualad to Robin. We've lost our cargo. Did you-"

Robin cut him off, sighing exasperatedly. "It's gone."

He looked to us and then to the direction of where Superboy jumped, "And so's a quarter of my Team." He grumbled.

Off comm, he yelled at us, asking what we were doing.

But we'd already teleported away. Going after Superboy and toward Gotham, more specifically, Gotham Academy. We turned off our comm as everyone radioed in, we hate that thing.

Batman would be mad. But we needed to make sure things went as the universe wanted.

We arrived just as Amazo punched Superboy through the wall, entering the gymnasium. While we'd teleported to the middle of the gym, the clone skid past us, landing a few feet away. We turned to the emerging robot.

It had glowing red eyes and pointed ears, its parts painted to have a white skin tone and ginger hair, along with green pants and armbands that were painted on the robot's wrists.

Professor Ivo is sitting on the bleachers, clapping. We looked up at the man who was guarded by two robot monkeys. "I don't usually attend these things in person," one of his monkeys chuckled as he started to as well, "but this was too good to miss."

"Access: Superman." The robot locked onto us, charging and trying to punch at it, as its fist tried to connect with our face we grabbed it, adding just enough pressure to stop it, but not enough to demolish it.

And then we threw it through the hole it created in the wall. Behind us, we can hear Superboy get back up on his feet. Amazo came back through the wall and Superboy charged with a hook, connecting to the robot's metal face. The robot backhands him, knocking our teammate off balance, and punched him in the chest, getting him to double over so the robot could strike Superboy's abdomen with its knee.

We shoot at the thing, the impact burning a point on its head, it turned to us, dropping Superboy to the floor. We copy its strength and dash forward, punching to the right then left then going for a high kick. The punches don't connect as the robot blocks, but the kick does damage.

"Access: Martian Manhunter," it tried to density shift through our kick but it didn't work, density shifting only makes it possible to go through matter, but it's still there, you can still touch the shifter if you have the right density, which, we can find.

The robot's head is significantly damaged. But not enough, which is good. We know Artemis is around here somewhere. She needs to shoot that arrow before anything major can come. This is the reason we do this all, why we've been so careful. We cannot let anything mess it up now.

The Android tried to attack us, but Kid Flash had come onto the scene, picking us up with a, "Yoink." We stared at him, as he set us down away from the android. He'd tried to save us. Why? We would have been fine regardless. Didn't he know that?

A pissed-off Robin stood next to us as he sent a Batarang flying towards the robot, who density shifted before it could hit its mark.

"You know your not really supposed to abandon teammates without a word–"

"Access: Red Tornado." A tornado exactly like Reds appeared under its feet, being sent in our group's direction. We cancel it out with our own wind.

"Access: Captain Atom." The android tried something new, trying to dispose of us with Captain Atom's nuclear energy.

Kid Flash tried to charge at the robot, but it activated Black Canary's canary cry and sent a pulse into the ground, knocking him into the bleachers.

"Superman." It said as Superboy went in for another attack, we charged too, punching it as Amazo grabbed Superboy's fist, it grabbed ours too, and we were knocked into our teammates, left to fall onto the floor.

"Martian Manhunter." Amazo dictated as it elongated its arms to attack the two exploding disks Robin sent its way, sending them straight toward the boy. We created a shield above him so he would not sustain injury.

Attempting to catch him off-guard, Kid Flash rand at the ginger-coated robot, who caught the actual ginger in its arms. "Superman."

The robot gave the boy a bone-crushing hug.

A bowstring snapped as an arrow flew through the air, catching Amazo's attention, we smiled to show we were pleased as humans do. It was Artemis.

Kid Flash cried in pain, it stopped as soon as the robot let him go, falling to the floor as Amazo let him go, phasing as the arrow went through it.

We get up, watching Kid Flash run away from the robot to recuperate. It was time to get serious now that Artemis had fired her arrow. Because now there was no reason to hold back.

White energy surrounded our hands and feet as we backed away from the robot, launching mass amounts of cosmic energy straight into its chest, burning through it slowly.

"Martian Manhunter." The shifting didn't work, as we pushed back harder. Knocking the robot into the wall with a grunt. Superboy tried to take advantage, as well pulled back to let him, but he was countered as the android performed the same move Black Canary used to take down Superboy earlier that day. Superboy was thrown across the room, crashing into the bleachers.

Robin threw a Batarang at the machine, but Amazo activated Superman's abilities and shot it down with Superman's heat vision, eyes glowing red as he directed his attention toward Robin. Kid Flash got his friend out of the way before he would end up being cut in half.

Ivo yawned dramatically, "Oh, yawn." he enunciated, sounding bored.

"Normally Amazo would study and mimic your abilities during battle, but what's the point?" He waved his hand as he looked at his fingernails with the other, trying to look disinterested.

"You're all such poor copies of the originals."

Like fire something rushed through our veins, making us clench our fists and turn to Ivo who stared back with a smirk. It made something in our mind click, like a lock coming off. We grit our teeth.

He had called us inadequate.

A poor copy of another.

We are not a poor copy. Why do others look at us as such?

Our elders seem to think we are the same as her, yet think us worse. The Lords of Order and those of chaos never listen, thinking our species to inadequate now. Even Batman thinks we are inadequate, unworthy.

The air around us shifted, getting heavier, harder to breathe. Distantly, we could hear (Y/n)'s voice get nervous. But the sound of our own thoughts couldn't register over the one, loudest thought of all.

We will show him his 'inadequacy.'

We lifted the poor imitation of the League into the air and tore it limb from limb telekinetically, mechanical parts falling to the floor. Then we crushed its limbs into their smallest parts, just the molecules forced together, almost shapeless, before they were set ablaze and teleported away, vanishing from space and time.

"Poor copy or not. Wouldn't you say that's good enough, Ivo?" Our voice was hellish as we stared up at him, we blinked slowly, something felt right with our eyes; like we could see better. A small light emitted from them in the darkened room.

The professor backed away, squeaking. Our teammates were dead silent. We hadn't noticed, but Miss Martian and Aqualad had entered the scene just in time to see us demolish Ivo's masterpiece.

We'd say this was adequate.

This was not adequate.

We stood before Black Canary, Martian Manhunter, Red Tornado, Batman, and Green Arrow, letting Aqualad sum up the mission. Ever since we'd gotten rid of the machine our teammates had been giving us unfamiliar looks. Like they were no longer familiar, or comfortable around us.

(Y/n) had been silent all of this time too.

"The Amazo android was destroyed, seemingly no traces of it remain," Aqualad informed the adults. We saw some of our teammates look at us from the corner of their eyes.

"But Professor Ivo's still out there, and since he originated the tech, he is arguably more dangerous than the android."

"Capturing the professor will be a League priority," Canary confirmed.

"But we understand that your mission encountered other complications," Martian Manhunter pointed out, crossing his arms. The boys turned their heads to glare at Superboy and us. Miss Martian averted her eyes.

Batman decided to step up. "Complications come with the job. Your ability to handle them has impressed the League." There was a pointed look to us, that said Batman wasn't talking to us when he said that.

"The whole League?" Superboy asked, alluding to his Kryptonian father.

"Given time, yes," Batman assured, instantaneously. "Kryptonians, as you know, have very hard heads."

Superboy smiled, though it was small. "Of course, there's no shame in asking for help. That's why the League exists. Because there are some problems even we can't handle individually."

"Please." Robin accused. "If we needed help, we'd never get the chance to ask."

Robin pulled out Artemis' arrow.

"Look familiar?" Batman took it from his partner's grasp, examining it. "You were following us. Babysitting! You still don't trust us!"

Ignoring Robin's accusations, Batman gave the arrow to Green Arrow. "We didn't follow you."

Green Arrow pulled an arrow out of his quiver, holding them side by side. The tip and shaft are noticeably different from the one Robin handed over. With one being single-pointed whereas the hero's arrows had double joints.

Behind the domino mask, Robin's eyes expanded. "And that's not your arrow." Looking between the two and smiling. "But that means-"

Kid Flash, smiling brightly, cut off the shorter boy. "Speedy!"

"He has our backs." Aqualad smiled.

Kid Flash ran over, taking the arrow from the green-coated hero. "Souvenir!"

Batman and Green Arrow share a look, but don't comment.

And like that, all is forgotten.

From the Team's perspective.

We're pulled aside after the Team's dismissed.

"Failsafe, we'll be talking."

"Of course we will."

"Your performance out in the field was abysmal today," Batman started. We went to interrupt him and defend ourselves, for the first time. We were not in the mood for a lecture today. But he continued.

"We both know what you did wrong. From letting Amazo get away to not dealing with him straight after assembly, even from when Ivo's creations attacked the truck. But that's not what I want to talk about." Jitters scattered across our body. He doesn't want to talk about that? But our memories say otherwise...

"Batman, we think you and us are very similar. But you misunderstand us, we are just trying to accomplish our mission, to make the future better like you are, and though we have different ways about going about that mission we'd think more than anyone you'd understand. So if you have a question we'd answer it, if it will make you understand." We tried.

He nodded, "Failsafe, I have one simple question for you." We nodded too, listening. This was new, we don't remember this. We started to sweat.

"If anyone on the Team was injured, or about to die, would you interfere? Would you save their life?" The question shocked us. Shaking our very core as our heart stopped for a singular moment before pulsing again. He never asked this. This was new. Not in our memories.

He wasn't supposed to ask this. This was never supposed to happen. We stopped breathing, breath hitching.

We brought a hand to our chest as we thought about Batman's question. Would we save a teammate if it meant changing the future we wanted? Would we sacrifice our allies to ensure balance?

We didn't have an answer.

Staring up at Batman, it seemed as though he had his. Leaving us alone to think about what he'd asked us.
