The first and only time we were told about the unofficial Cadmus mission was a passing mention from Robin during a conversation we could no longer remember. Which puzzled us, why did being in a human body affect us as badly as it did? It was still a question plaguing our mind even now after two years.
There had to be a reason for it, right? We hoped the universe would tell us soon.
But, that had been the only time it was ever mentioned and explained in conversation to us. The only reason we'd known about this was because we'd been inside our future teammates' heads, seeing their memories.
The Cadmus mission had been carried out by Aqualad, Kid Flash, and Robin on the same day we had helped the League with apprehending Wotan, who was trying to blot out the sun. They had met Superboy and battled Doctor Mark Desmond, who'd turned into a monster simply called 'Blockbuster.' Supposedly, that had happened two, three days ago.
And after, they stood victorious. Standing before the Justice League they plead their case to them, and that was how the Team had come to be.
That was all we'd known from our own dimensional timeline, though we have seen those events occur in others, watching them, observing them, making sure the course of those dimensions' histories played out as they were supposed to. (Y/n) always complained we should do more to help, to actually use our powers for something.
It wasn't as simple as that, we knew that. The powers of our species were not for playing around, they were to protect the universe as a whole. Messing around with them was not part of the plan.
We had waited for the day the Team would become real, from the beginning of our own existence, and until the end. Time meant nothing, but the memories of these teenagers, we knew this is why we'd been created. We had to see what made them so special, we needed to know how they would create the future and tip the scales long broken.
We needed to know. We were going to know. Unlock every secret and pave the way for the hero our memories saw coming in the near future, the hero that would save our species and finally create a balance for all that our species just could not give.
"Failsafe," An older males voice called out to us, we turned to him, gazing up at the man wearing red and blue. Baby blue eyes stared down at us, black hair with a single curl bounced as the happy, 'American' male approached us. We didn't understand him, he said he was American, but he was purely Kryptonian? It was a confusing dissonance to make.
"Superman," We acknowledged the caped crusader.
"You're not going home?" He questioned us, we shook our head. We weren't allowed to go back to our room in the Watchtower without Batman, he had stated that we were not to be left alone, too dangerous to not be under supervision. That was the protocol.
"We are waiting for Batman," We answered his question.
He nodded to himself, still with a shining smile on his face. "Ah, right. It wouldn't be right to let you leave alone this late at night." He chuckled, "Sometimes I forget you're not an adult."
His wording was quite strange. We were not going to leave the Watchtower, but everything else was correct, so we didn't correct him, shrugging instead.
"I could take you home if you want, yourβ" He got cut off when Batman yelled our name, alerting us to him.
"Failsafe!" Batman's voice echoed throughout the room and we turned back to him who was leaving his huddle with Flash and Aquaman, walking away down the hall towards our room.
"Goodbye, Superman," We followed after the black and gray-clothed man. The Kryptonian behind us sighed, we didn't look back at him as we tried to catch up with Batman.
We didn't wonder about what he was going to say, it doesn't matter.
Catching up to Batman his longer strides don't stop, so we had to walk a little faster to keep up. It's normal, Batman doesn't slow down for us so we've gotten used to this walking pace.
'It feels nice not to fly though, feels nice to stretch our legs,' (Y/n) commented.
'Yes. It is quite nice.' We responded.
'He's going to ask us the big question today, right?!'
'Yes.'
'I can't wait!'
'You will have to, we cannot control time.'
'I didn't mean it literally, Failsafeβ You know what, never mind.'
We didn't respond. Figurative language was also something that confused us, why did it exist? For so many reasons it would only create problems in human conversation. We didn't see the point of anything that didn't help accomplish a goal.
Silently, we and Batman continued down the empty hallway, walking down the set of stairs and continuing on down a new hallway. Passing by other rooms, a lone room stood out at the end, our room. The mechanical, metal sliding door opened, revealing a white room. White ceiling, white walls, a white floor, with a ledge, and a bed with white sheets, pillows, and blankets. Even the desk in the room was painted white.
Batman had once asked us if we'd wanted anything to be added to our room. We had told him no.
We could've added memorabilia and accessories, but there was no material possession we'd ever need that we couldn't create when we'd needed it. (Y/n) said we should keep the things people had given to us as thanks, at least. They were hidden away in the drawers of our desk.
The room was plain, and simplistic, which made it calming and nice to stay in. Helped clear our head as we tried to figure out this new human body and mind. Our two-year stay on the material plane had given us some time, but we still hadn't had the answers we needed. Hopefully, in the next five months, we'd be able to find them within the team.
"Tomorrow, we'll be going over your performance report from this mission." The man dressed like the flying, cave-dwelling animal told me. We nodded, already knowing everything he was going to say.
(Y/n) once whined it was annoying how we'd still have to sit there and pay attention to what he said even though we already knew it, but we wouldn't know it unless we paid attention to what he said. (Y/n) had called it the 'Non-linear Paradox,' trying to be humorous.
"We look forward to it." We had no feelings towards it. It was scolding again, about not having any sense of teamwork.
We didn't need teamwork to take this enemy down. All we needed to do was attack its weakness ourselves, a simple blow to its core, and the threat was neutralized. We still don't understand his lectures. If the threat's gone, why are we getting scolded?
Humans, along with all other life-forms like them, were truly the most baffling things we'd ever come across in our long life cycle.
"And," We tuned back in, straightening out. He was going to say it. He was going to say we were joining the Team.
Batman almost said something before fixing his sentence, "After some time, the League has come to the decision that it would be best if you join Robin, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Superboy, and Miss Martian on The Team."
Our heart skipped a beat, (Y/n) started freaking out, jumping up and down with happiness in our head, screaming 'yes' and 'oh my goooodddddddd.'
We nodded, "Understood."
Our lips twitched upwards, just a smidge.
He turned away, walking down the hall, his cape flying behind him as he made the sharp exit. We retreated into our room.
Tomorrow was looking to be quite an interesting day.

We stood in the halls of Mt. Justice waiting for Batman to introduce ourselves and Miss Martian to the Team, as of right now he was explaining to the boys what was going on and where we all are. Mount Justice, the original base of the Justice League before even the Watchtower.
We looked around at the walls carved out of the mountain itself, the bottom half of the wall was layered with wood. Good craftsmanship, we wonder who in the League did this, or if they had some trusted people to help them when they created this place.
"Uhm, hi! My name is M'gann M'orzz, also known as Miss Martian now, I guess. Uh, it's really nice to meet you, new teammate!" We snapped our head toward the sound, forgetting the wall.
The person introduction themselves to us was M'gann M'orzz. They looked to be feminine in appearance, about five foot six inches tall, but with the heels she was wearing it was harder to tell if she was taller or shorter. The Martian girl had amber eyes, light green skin, and darker, ginger hair. She was wearing a blue and white outfit with a red X as a design on her shirt, to match her uncle, Martian Manhunter. He was standing far off behind her.
She looked at us expectantly, we needed to introduce ourself as well. How did humans do it again?
"It is nice to meet you, M'gann M'orzz, our name is Failsafe," We stuck out our hand for her gloved one to grab, "It will be a pleasure to work with you."
She grabbed it, shaking it up and down happily, a smile on her face.
"It'll be great to work with you too!"
We nodded, removing our hand from hers. Her smile quirked awkwardly and she chuckled, embarrassed. We wondered why.
Martian Manhunter walked up to us, a rare smile on his face. He put a hand on his niece's shoulder. (Y/n) made a comment about missing 'her' parents, and we felt hormones rushing through us that made us continue to stare at that exchange.
Hm, another human thing to learn about.
"It is time for you both to be introduced to the rest of the Team, come on, let's not keep them waiting." He lead us both out into the open, M'gann being so excited she started walking ahead of him. We walked behind him, wanting to observe our teammates' reactions.
It wasβ
'(Y/n). What's the word we're looking for?'
'Well, what do you wanna describe? There are a lot of fucking words in the English language, Failsafe.'
'It is unfamiliar to us to have eyes, to observe the universe and its life forms like we can now. Also, we shouldn't be cursing so much.'
'Hahaha... Your funny, Failsafe. Anyway, I think the word you're looking for is 'weird.' If it's unfamiliar to you then it's weird.'
'Mm, We suppose that word is satisfactory.'
'Of course it is, it's me. The most satisfactory person on the planet. Eh, wait, satisfactory is..' The rambling started, filling up our head.
But, what (Y/n) said was right, observing through the lens of sight was 'weird.' Not something any of our species was used to. It was foreign and good.
"The six of you will be that Team," Batman finished. He had to look down at the gang of teenagers. Aquaman stood next to him with his arms crossed.
"Cool. Wait, Six?" Robin asked.
Batman motioned to behind them, where M'gann, Martian Manhunter, and we were walking toward them. They all turned to us, their attention solely on M'gann and us.
"This is the Martian Manhunter's niece, Miss Martian," Batman explained to them as they focused on the green-skinned female.
"Hi," She waved her hand shyly, it seemed all the excitement from earlier had shifted into an awkward shyness.
"And this is Failsafe," Batman introduced us, "Who'll be joining you all on missions."
As they all looked at us, Robin tilted his head, we stared him straight in the eye even through his sunglasses. We tilted our head too, copying him.
"Liking this gig more every day," Wally said with a flirty tone. Going up to the older girl.
"It is nice to be acquainted, we can't wait to work with you all," We told them, looking away from Robin toward the other boys. Aqualad nodded after making eye contact, Kid Flash didn't notice our introduction because he was talking to Miss Martian, and Superboy wouldn't look at us.
Robin came up to us, offering his hand with a warm smile.
"Hey, I'm Robin, it's nice to meet you too," it was awkward, but we grabbed his hand and shook it.
Superboy went to talk to Miss Martian, and Aqualad came over to greet us first.
We went around introducing ourselves, letting them introduce themselves too. And after a couple of minutes, Robin turned to Aqualad and they both said something to each other. We caught it, and it made us smile.
"Today is the day."
Today was certainly the interesting day we'd thought it'd be. But yes, today was the day indeed.
