The room was quite spacious, for an apartment complex in Florida. Painted a nice shade of (f/c), with posters from different things plastered on the walls with tape and pins. It contained a dresser, closet, a desk for school, an egg chair next to a bookshelf littered with mostly manga and trashy romance novels, and a couple of old yearbooks and papers from years past that showed the bookshelf hadn't been cleared out in some time. And lastly, a window seat decked out in cushions and blankets to make a nice, tiny bed.

I breathed a sigh of relief at seeing my 'clean' room. It had taken me hours to get this done, I started at ten for Superman's sake! I groaned at that thought, who cleans on their birthday? I should be doing something fun right now! Like being with my parents who went to pick up the cake, or being with my friends who I spent the whole weekend with, and despite having just gotten home yesterday night, I miss and wanna spend time with again.

But instead, I was here. Having spent three hours cleaning up my room after a threat from mom that there would be no cake otherwise. Evil woman. Who threatens the cake, innocent of any crimes? It could bring any man from Batman to Joker, to tears.

I plopped down on my bed, checking my phone. Nothing new, some notifications from social media, a couple of texts from family and friends wishing me a happy birthday, and even some emails from school. The norm, I huffed, nothing exciting today? What, did the villains actually respect memorial day, or were they just being lazy? No way they were all in jail.

Actually, it probably wasn't right that I just dissed an important holiday like that, but I was really, really bored now that I'd completed the only thing I had planned until late afternoon.

Β  ...I am hungry though, it is my birthday, there's a Mendy's a mile away. Yeah, junk food and Netflix sound great. Maybe by the time I get home, there'll be some cool action on the news. Celebrating a Justice League win on my birthday sounds entertaining enough.

Β  I grabbed my hoodie and stuffed my wallet in my pocket, plugged my earbuds into my phone, and stuffed it into my pocket, not before sending a heads-up text to mom. It's my birthday and it's my own money, I shouldn't get in trouble for going up the block, but best not to test my luck. That woman is scary when she's angry.

Not that it isn't founded some of the time. I'll admit I do some really stupid shit. I mean, our neighbor offered it, so how was I supposed to know jet-skiing was illegal til age fourteen!?

Β Β  I put on some sneakers and left the house, locking the door behind me. I walked out of the complex and passed Mr. Mendoza chilling in the pool on the way, we finger gun to each other and he yelled happy birthday before I left the complex.

Β Β  I smiled. I'm surprised he remembered. Today is looking to be a good day, thankfully. Maybe if I'm really lucky some supervillain will come and wreck the Mendy's I'm going to, so that I could see some action up close. That'd be even better than seeing it in the news.

Β Β  Meh, probably wouldn't happen. Shouldn't get my hopes up.

Β  I started the mile walk to the Mendy's and played some music on my phone, cursing myself for not getting my bike beforehand.

Β  I mean, I could go back and get it. But that's a lot of work...

I kept walking down the street, almost getting run over by a cyclist who was riding in the middle of the sidewalk.

"Hey asshat, use the cycling lane!" I yelled at him as he sped away. I mumbled curses under my breath as I continued walking. Does no one care about other people anymore?

I'm about to cross Riverside when I hear whispers invading my ears. I checked my phone to see if it's part of the song and paused the song when it didn't seem like it. But the whispers continued. I shut my phone off and took out my earbuds, looking around. No one's whispering, and even if they were, people were talking so loud I wouldn't be able to hear them anyway. And it feels as if it's right in my eardrums. Beckoning me.

Β  The crosswalk opened and people started crossing Riverside. But I still look around, the whispers are clear, and in my own voice. Which is the creepiest thing. It gets louder as I look left, to Memorial park. It tells me to go there.

Β  I don't even think about it as I cross Margaret street, the whispers get louder, unintelligible but it feels right, like praise. Not creepy praise that should make me run like hell, but instead like it was right like I was supposed to do this, and like it was fate. Like it was the only right thing in the world to do.

Β  And it felt so damn good to listen to it. To hear that.

Β Β  I wanted to follow it, I wanted to know why it was calling me. It couldn't be bad, right? If it felt this right it couldn't be. I could have turned around and left, but instead, I walked into the park.

Β  There was barely anyone around, a couple of teenagers with skateboards, a dad and a toddler, a bunch of kids, and their bored parents at the playground. A frisbee flew past me and a German Shepherd jumped in front of me to catch it in midair.

Β Β  I walked to a part of the park that contained more trees, where it would be harder to see anything. The voice stopped and my heart dropped. Was it my imagination? A hallucination? Or was it real and I missed my chance? No answers to greet me?

Β  I closed my eyes and hung my head, sighing. Do I just return home now? Or go get food as planned? I probably shouldn't be going anywhere if I'm hallucinating. Maybe I should call my mom. I pulled out my phone to do so. Still, in the back of my mind, the thoughts of it being real rang loudly.

Β  I turned on my heel, intending to go home, planning to call mom and dad and tell them about my weird hallucination and ask them to go get food on their way home, when the voice came back again.

Β Β  I spun around so hard I almost got whiplash. There was nothing there. But it was loud in my ears, my own voice asking me a question. It sounded so gentle but yet, emotionless.

Β Β  It needed help.

Β  I could help it.

Β Β  My eyes fluttered shut, as I felt its presence filtering through my mind like a gentle caress. I physically leaned into a touch that was not there. What was this thing, this feeling? And how could I possibly help it?

Β Β  It asked me if I could let it in, and I didn't know how to respond, it was already in my head after all, what else could it be talking about?

Β Β  "Wha, what do you mean?" I asked breathlessly. This force, this thing I couldn't see even if my eyes were wide open and staring, was making me tense, but my body was relaxed. My mind scrambled to find answers, any answers.

Β Β  Images filled my mind, comforting me; my arms tried to reach out to grasp it, nothing. I knew there would be nothing, she doesn't have a physical form, that's why she needed me. We're meant for each other.

Β Β  Yes, I accepted her. And the pain in my chest that followed felt searing like I was being ripped open and had something shoved roughly in my heart, yet it still beat. I collapsed to my knees, holding my chest, and screamed, tears falling so fast and hard out of my rapidly blinking eyes that they landed on the dirt below, wetting it and giving it nutrients.

Β Β  And then, there was a blast wave expelled from my body, and after that, nothing.

Brief Description
Β Β  Found in the land between Jacksonville Florida, fighting between the league and entity took place, the entity agreed to come with the league after minutes of fighting, taken into League custody for a year to decide what to do with it. It was decided that the entity would join the League on the condition that it would act as a last resort. Will reveal information is asked but prefers not to talk.

Β  Β  Has had problems taking action without a plan, doesn't like to act spontaneously, and relies too much on what the League now knows as a non-linear memory. Emotionally vacant and responds to both authority and requests from other people, no matter who they might be.

Β  Β  One year after being taken into custody it was revealed that "Failsafe" did not possess a human-like form, and was using a regular human as a host, has problems dealing with that connection and the connections of the Leaguers around it. Self-sacrificing when referring to specific people. Doesn't like to fight, but can deal with enemies fast and with power.

Justice League Classified File - Failsafe Found File

Monday, March 31st, 2008

14: 46 EDT

Cam footage provided by Batman's (02) cowl. See here for footage. [Redacted, designation needed]

Data - energy found near Jacksonville, Florida, a human girl found in the middle of Crater created in Memorial Park. All 10 Leaguers came onto the scene for investigation, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Hawkman, and Hawkman.

All Leaguers were on scene by 14:35 EDT.

Β  Β  Superman, Green Lantern, and Martian Manhunter were first to arrive. Followed by Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Both Hawks.

Β  Β  Failsafe did not present hostile behavior.Β  It made a reaction to the Flash, in which prompted Hawkwoman to try and attack - Batman tried to stop her before a fight could break out but the entity took it as a sign of attack, electrocuting her with an unknown voltage. Hawkman flew Hawkwoman to a safe area outside the crater.

Β  Β  The Failsafe reacted to Superman, attacking him after sending the threat. Wonder Woman followed Superman's attack and a battle ensued. The Failsafe stayed passive towards other, non-battling leaguers.

Notable - It created Kryptonite out of the dirt surrounding it, incapacitating Superman.

Β  Β  The Failsafe took out Green Arrow, Hawkman, Green Lantern, and Flash once provoked.

Martian Manhunter provided information that he could not read the Failsafes' mind at the time. This was not situational, as it seems he still cannot.

Β  Β Β  Hawkman was electrocuted, Flash was constricted using some unknown substance from the ground, and same as the Flash the Green Lantern was hit with a yellow sludge, rendering him powerless until it could be taken off. That, however, was a challenge due to its stickiness. Failsafe rushed towards the Lantern, draining his power ring of its energy.

Wonder Woman was defeated with her own lasso and Martian Manhunter as well as Aquaman were attacked with Fire after a perceived attack.

Β Β  Batman displayed an unthreatening attitude walking towards it, it didn't attack but did take a step back.

Β  Β  A couple more steps were taken, but the entity eventually regained "consciousness." It seemed confused and agreed to come with the league to find out what had happened. Further questioning took place later on.

Β  It was decided that the entity would take on the identity Failsafe, to help the League in the event the League could not contain a threat. This was decided through an analysis of the footage and further tests. Files can be accessed in Justice League - Membership - Subdivision S.

This concludes the Failsafe Found File and Report.
