16 | Number One Hero
Bakugo and Serizawa together. Ritsu stay (Dimple doesn't ACTUALLY want to traumatize Mob by making them fight.) Hanazawa and Izuku together. Ryo fighting Aizawa. A lot is going on.
I edited the ending, so for those who have already read it, just look for the really long "------------".
================================
][ Previously: Mob goes shopping. The Katsu duo get lost. Eyo runs into some ableists and is aided by Aizawa, then go on a dinner date which is interrupted by the Katsu duo recognizing Ryo. Mob enjoys his moment of fame before realizing it's stupid. Only he and maybe four others who haven't been brainwashed remain. ][
""So... You gave up on your followers already, huh?"" A voice entered Mob's head, one he recognized but couldn't quite place a name to yet. It was ominous, echoing around in the scape of his mind.
"Listen, what you're doing is wrong. You're brainwashing people. You need to stop." Mob spoke to the air as he marched up the roots of the tree. No one made an effort to stop him.
""Brainwashing is a rather harsh term, don't you think? I'm not changing their personalities, nor am I controlling their actions! I'm merely giving them a spiritual shoulder to lean on; an object bigger than their miserable lives to have faith in.""
"No, these people don't have a choice." Mob stared up at the very base of the plant. Before him stood a small hole; a meager cave-like entrance into the vegetable.
""Since when did anyone have a choice about anything?? The government, society, who your neighbors, brothers or sisters are; none of those are choices you get to make either! I can name far more examples, but I think you get the picture! The whole point about being a god is having the ability control what people deem unavoidable parts of life! It doesn't make me bad, necessarily. Just a natural part of life like breathing and thinking.""
"I just think it's selfish to want that kind of control over people... That's all." Mob said as he entered. Through the darkness peeked a cave full of light. The plant itself bore little vines that glowed a faint green hue. Together, they lit the teen's path.
""Tuh! Says the kid who was just having the time of his life out there on stage."" The plant was clearly getting agitated. Mob had a sneaking suspicion he knew who this really was.. but he hoped he was wrong.
"That's nowhere near what you are doing." Mob crawled up and came to level ground in the broccoli's core. Massive pillars of green jutted up into the dark abyss above. Meeting him, a warped, viny version of himself stood, also illuminated only by the glowing vines all around. "Whoever you are, I need you to stop. Stop this immediately!"
The plant formed some kind of a smirk as it dipped its head out of pity. Before it spoke, a hand landed on Mob's shoulder. It was kind and gentle, however. Turning his head, Mob saw none other than Teru smiling at him. "I think you should hear him out.. Kageyama."
"...Teru..?" Izuku stood not far behind, possessing a very similar, placid look in his eyes.
"Just think about it, Mob. Has he really hurt anyone? Have anyone's lives been put at serious risk because of him?"
"No? But-"
"-Then maybe it would be worth hearing him out--"
"-This broccoli... It is destroying the town. Haven't you seen it??" He asked both Teru AND Psycho Helmet.
"It is??" The plant sounded rather shocked. "Well- well. In any case, I'm sure we can find a solution. We can rebuild if we have to."
"No." Mob sent the plant a very serious glare. "That won't fix it."
"M-maybe we should sit down and talk about this first, eh? No need to fight about it." Teru took notice of how tense Mob was.
"I won't be talked into letting you brainwash everyone. It just isn't right!"
. . .
"...You sure are resilient, kid... I'll give you that. ... Thing though is that there is nothing you can do now. Your family, your friends, and even your master have all given themselves to the Psycho Helmet religion." Arms stretching out on either side, he played his biggest card yet. "Choosing to stand against me won't just be detrimental to our bond...but the bonds of everyone else. . . . You will be truly alone. Because everyone else will turn against--"
QCH!
With the swipe of his hand, the plant man was diced into a dozen pieces. Hanazawa and Izuku gasped. Teru took the greatest offense.
"How DARE you hurt the Divine tree!!" From behind, Teru grabbed Mob and threw him overhead by several stories, following his twirling body up the massive broccoli pillar. Meeting him up there, Teru slammed him into the plant. Mob and Teru stood on the wall like it was the floor, Mob trying to convince his friend to snap out of it! This was no normal brainwashing, though. At least not like in the movies. Teru, the real Teru, genuinely thought he was doing what was right. So Mob had to immobilize him. He shocked the other with a brief burst of his power and casually dropped back down to ground level.
Fwooosh!
A flash of golden light sparked after Mob landed. He spun around, eyeing Teru absolutely beaming with power.
"Teru is loyal to me..." Cooed the plant as he grew another body from the ground. "Which means he too possesses the power of a god."
Immediately, the blond demonstrated. Deku bounced back as Teru stuck his hand out and inflicted a weight heavier than a building over Mob's body! Mob gasped, screaming out for Teru to stop as he fell through the floor of the plant. He descended into another pocket of air. One much darker than the previous. The roots wove around his body. Such power. He could feel its immense strength. As Teru stood by the edge of the hole, Mob prepared one massive blast. He hoped his friend would be alright.
KABOOOM!
Teru was sent flying right out of the tree. He left laughing at the sight of such power. His mind was freed.
The blond plummeted down
down
down
down . . .
A man leapt, catching the teen before he could hit the concrete. Teru squinted, opening his eyes once the two were safely on the ground to see who carried him.
"My my.. Wasn't expecting to see you here of all people~" Ryo remarked, peering down at the boy in his arms. Teru gasped and punched the guy in the face, then rolled out of his arms and crashed into the ground. At least that fall wasn't as bad as the one he would have suffered.
"I should say the same." Standing, Teru growled, wiping blood from a cut on his face. What was he doing here? He had a strange aura. Same as... Oh no. Teru remembered what all had gone down in that broccoli not moments before. He-he was just fighting Mob! Why?? To protect THAT stupid tree?!... Looked like Ryo got caught in the mix as well. Wait a minute.. over there... There was a bloodied man on the floor! He shook as he pushed his upper body up. One eye was closed and bloody, but the other was still fighting to stay open, remaining fixed on his opponent. Teru immediately knew what was going on. Ryo had already turned around, striding toward the other. "Don't you hurt him!!"
And so Teru joined the fight. Ryo, despite not having the powers he was used to possessing, was still a formidable opponent... All thanks to the great broccoli's swell of power.
----------
Mob battled Izuku one on one, the greenette as passionate about winning as ever. Clones of the Psycho Helmet from before assisted where the elder was lacking, creating one continuous barrage of attacks. Mob started to struggle, his powers tested. He didn't want to hurt his friend but he just wasn't stopping!
Mob managed to swipe his friend far enough away to give himself some time. Only the plant people tackled him now.
"Dimple... Why won't you show yourself..?
...Is it because...you're afraid of me?" Tears flowed down his cheeks as he stopped, weakened, to clutch his chest. "I don't like this... Don't make me feel this way.." He hadn't seen the spirit in so long... Why did their reunion have to be so bitter? Further away, Deku stood where he had previously been flung away. His body shivered, shaking strangely, like there was some kind of struggle going on. Then, two of his fingers started to glow, filling with power.
BOOM!
The greenette flicked the ground, a crater forming, bits of green plant spitting into the air all around. Mob spun around, eyes slightly widened. A root tightened around his ankle, making him stumble. As the dust settled, Mob finally realized why he was growing so weak.
"The tree.. It's..draining my powers!"
"Finally noticed?" One of the Psycho Helmets leaned his way. Mob swiped his hand at it, destroying the thing. ""Took you long enough. You're almost completely rung dry now~ I'd give up if I were you."" More helmets formed from the very floors and walls. Everything plant based was a suitable spawning point. Again, there was an army standing against him. Mob gritted his teeth.
"Just come out, Dimple! We need to talk!" But the plants didn't hear him. They all sprung for his body in unison, arms stretched outward.
"SSSMMMMAAASH!"
BANG!
Izuku jumped in, dealing one deadly punch to the horde. They were all completely blown away. Mob's eyes sparkled with hope. It was good to have a friend on his side again. Izuku landed, his feet skidding on the floor until he tripped over a vine.
"Izuku! You're back!"
"Yeah, I'm real sorry about that. I don't know what came over me!" The older teen exhaled as he pushed himself up. He'd just had another vision with the previous users, so it still felt like he was waking up. A little disorientated and trying to remember as much as possible.
"It's okay.." Mob breathed. Both stood side by side as more helmets spawned around them. The two ended up standing back to back.
"So... You know this guy?"
"Yeah. Leave the talking to me. I don't know what's wrong with him.. but I'm hoping I can change his mind."
Deku nodded, brows set, focusing his power into his legs. "Alright.." A clash again shook the base of the plant. The army of continuously spawning helmets versus the two teens. Mob was weakened, Izuku was constantly fighting the brainwashing force of the tree. It was a struggle.
"You seem like a pretty pro hero kind of guy..." One of the helmets spoke directly to Izuku even after it was destroyed. "Why then are you trying to stop me? I'm saving more people this instance than you could in your entire life!" Deku kicked through another and jumped away before a massive one landed. Mob dealt with that psycho helmet, exploding it into thousands of chunks. It was obvious, though, that Dimple had singled out the greenette now. "For your information, not a single person has died of unnatural causes since I took over.. And those who have, died peacefully, knowing that the great Psycho Helmet is pleased with them. ... So, if you really think about it in terms of the hero leaderboard, I've only just begun and could already make first place. Now how's that for a hero?" Izuku's body shook, resulting in a missed punch. He tripped over his own force and was kicked to the ground. Even the slightest moral dilemma was weakening his mental barrier, making it harder to resist brainwashing. Mob rushed to his aid and swiped left on the Psycho Helmet.
"You should," the boy gritted his teeth, "just kick me-me out! ..Before I turn on you again!" Izuku pushed himself to his feet weakly. The mental turmoil was clearly getting to him. Izuku balled his fist and swat his own head with it. "I don't know how much more of this I can ta-take!"
"It'll be okay, Izuku!" Mob pulled Isuku's hand away from himself. He looked into the other's eyes caringly. "You're strong. Stronger than me! We can do this!" The elder closed his eyes and nodded. Mob was right... There was no point in running.
"In that case..." Standing taller to regain his strong posture, "then I'll give it all I can!"
"Ugh... You plucky protagonists are simple creatures.. aren't you?" Streaks of green seeped out of the walls and floor, ammasing together into one large swirling green ball. Izuku stumbled back a step and gritted his teeth, for even HE could see the spirit now. "Well then, Mob, it looks like you need to hear this from the only person you care to listen to." The green mist settled into a gigantic Dimple, his face enlarged and all.
A vision entered Mob's mind. An image of Tsubomi, real as day, scolding him for standing up against Dimple. ...Even ended with the painful "get a clue" line...

Mob exploded, the surrounding forces completely OBLITERATED without him even having to flinch. Even Deku was pushed back, having to catch himself before hitting a pillar. Izuku dropped down in a hurry and stared in awe at his friend. He was...powerful again??
"Ah, so ya still got some juice left in ya then?" The spirit smirked, but also looked kind of shocked. "..Thought you were almost completely tapped out there." Mob wasn't amused.
"How dare you try to use her against me.." Dang, dat boy about ready to murder someone!
"Sheesh! You always get so serious when she's involved. Tch.. typical. You know, now's probably the best time to tell you what I really think. Truth is, I don't think you'll ever get her to notice you! That Tsubomi is a very headstrong woman who is guided by her own morals and vices. I tried several times to pressure her into eating some candies, but she just wouldn't do it! Not even when her friends offered her some! And with that kind of headstrong attitude, I predict that you could work out all the days of your life and she still won't notice you!... However~ now.. her heart and soul are both committed to the Psycho Helmet religion! ...If you were to become the founder, you'd actually have a chance with her!"
Pewf!
Mob made his big friend explode by merely pointing at him with two fingers. "This is stupid." He remarked. The green dust recollected, forming Dimple a second time, this time smiling even wider.
"It's going to take a lot more than that to defeat me, partner. And this isn't even my final form--" Mob grabbed Dimple by the lil (tail?). "Oh?" Mob knocked around the old friend, beating him against the floor until he pleaded for mercy, his own face stiff and calloused. Another explosion knocked Mob back as Dimple had had enough. From where the explosion blasted, a large inferno of golden energy hid within the form of a man. "Tuh! Is that how you treat a friend? I was only trying to help you out, after all!" And as the light settled with the smoke. "Behold! My godly form! GREAT GOD DIMPLE!" Before Mob stood a man of gold. A very muscular man of gold. Was he really pure gold?? Dimple dashed at Mob. "Godly punch!!" Mob was knocked back, flying across the room. Dimple dashed after him. "Godly Dash!!.. And to finish! My Godly-"
"SMMAASHH!" Izuku struck the golden man in the head with a kick. That knocked Dimple off course, flying into a pillar of broccoli and getting stuck in it for a second. "Are you alright?!" Panting, the greenette raced over to help Mob up. Mob smiled faintly, briefly wondering why he was asked to protect these kids... They seemed to be able to defend themselves pretty well on their own. If anything, it was always he who was being saved by them..
"I'm fine... Really." Mob sighed. He wasn't lying. Despite this great increase in power, Dimple had hardly lain a scratch on him.
"That's good.." The hero in training huffed, then shifted the weight from one aching leg to the other.
"You brat! You keep runing all my fun!" Dimple plucked himself from the broccoli wall and directed his attention into the green haired one. "You're gunna pay for that!!"
Boom..
A distant thud caught their attentions. Sounded like it was coming from outside. "Huh?" Dimple spun around.
Boom.
Boom!
BAM!
"OUTTA MY WAY, YOU STUPID VEGETABLE ZOMBIES!!!" Bakugo emerged through the tunnel he'd made in the tree. An army of helmets launching themselves at him from all directions, torn to bits by his continuous explosions. He already looked pretty beat from his battle with Serizawa, but he still had a LOT of fight left in him!"
"KACHAN!!"
"How is your week nerd brain not brainwashed yet?!" Bakugo was more astounded than anything. Then his eyes landed on Dimple. "And who the H### is that stupid-### looking villain!?!" Dimple stumbled back a step, offended. Then, he lowered I to a crouching a stance and gritted his teeth.
"Looks like I'll have to teach you brats a lesson FIRST!!" Dimple godly dashed at Bakugo and swung a godly punch at him. The teen launched himself in the air, avoiding the brunt of his blow. The golden man still was able to blow him away with the force of his punch, and Bakugo made a small series of explosions to fix himself from spinning out of control. Izuku wound up another kick. Mob found himself sidelined in his own fight... Oh well. At least he had time to catch his breath.
The three fought in probably the fastest, flashiest battle Mob had ever seen. And as quickly as it began, it ended when Dimple had had enough. The boy he really wanted to fight was just standing there watching, waiting for him to get tired!
"Alright, I've had enough of you two! Now, stooop!" Dimple extended both of his hands toward his opponents and a visible wave of sound and energy washed over the two. They instantly dropped what they were doing and grabbed their heads. Bakugo yelled to counter and Izuku fell to his knees.
"Dimple! Dimple stop it already!" Mob stepped forward.
82%
Dimple did stop when both had relented. "Now stand and leave me alone." He commanded.
"Yes..." Izuku stood to his feet, a blank, soulless stare in his eyes. Bakugo stood straighter as well, but he said nothing. He huffed a breath out his nose and wiped blood from his bottom lip.
"...Like I'd ever ###### listen to you.."
'What?!' Dimple panicked as the spiky haired teen stood. 'Even MOB would succumb to my brainwashing at that level! How is HE-! ...Wait a minute....' As Dimple realized there, the teen had, in a way, been successfully brainwashed. Bakugo stumbled a step forward, his hands sparking as he glared ahead with a more determined look in his eye than ever before. 'I can't believe it!'
Though his heart was 100% won over, his mind wouldn't allow himself to switch goals so suddenly. Even if he didn't know WHY he was fighting the broccoli in the first place, he knew it had to go down. He wouldn't give up, even if he thought it was pointless, or even counter productive. For he had only ONE thought in mind... 'KILL TREE. KILL TREE. KILL TREE. KILL TREE.' This kid was on a different level of determination entirely.
POW v'wwwwwiiip, CRASH!
Ryo's body crashed through the wall of the plant, leaving a man-sized hole. He thumped against a pillar of the plant and fell limp as a dead man on the ground. Just outside, on the other side of the tunnel, a bloodied and leaning Teruki smiled tiredly. He panted heavily, trying to but unable to lift his arm to swipe the blood off his brow. "I....win.."
Thump..
Teru fainted.
"Teru!!" Mob cried. Ryo was out there?? How long had they been fighting??
"Ugh.. This mess is getting too...messy." Dimple huffed. He grabbed Ryo's limp body and drop kicked him. The villain made another hole in the tree on his way out, which was quickly closed back up. Clapping his hands together to brush them off, Dimple turned to Mob with a smirk on his face. "So what do you think of my new god form, huh?"
"It's stupid. All of it."
"Ughh, this again?" Dimple's shoulder's slumped.
"You're using your power to force people to do what you want. That's something I cannot look past." Such an... Such an intense glare. Mob really was prepping here for a fight.
"Oh please..." Golden Dimple crossed his arms and rolled his eyes. "And what about you stopping me? Isn't that just using your powers to take away my free will?"
"This is different.. Now, give up or I will be forced to fight you!" Sticking up his fists, Mob crouched into a better fighting stance. Dimple's eyes narrowed.
"Looks like you have changed since entering that hero school now... Tuh. And here I was thinking you were the same old Mob. Guess you had to go and prove me wrong.."
"Kachan, NOO!" Izuku cried as his old friend leapt for the golden man.
"DIIIEE!" Bakugo's fists flared, already torn up sleeves completely blowing away in preparation for one GREAT explosion!
'Crap!!' Dimple quickly put up a barrier as the teen's explosions tore up everything around him. His barrier cracked, but it didn't break. Izuku kicked the blond while he was preparing for a landing and Bakugo's back slammed hard against a pillar of the broccoli.
"UGH! ROUND TWO, BROCCOLI SIMP!!" The two classmates began their fight, ducking, weaving, and flinging themselves from pillar to pillar at each other high up in the air! Mob and Dimple remained on the ground... How did the two have so much energy??
When Dimple looked down from the fight above, his eyes landed on Mob, who was still staring at him judgingly.
"Why are you looking at me like that?! Look, kid, if you stop playing games and join me then I'm going to make you severely regret it!"
"Is that really your true form?"
"Uhh, yeah! What about me becoming a god don't you understand?!"
"It just feels fake to me is all. That's not the real you, not the real Dimple at all. And stop trying to convince me otherwise." Mob pointed in Dimple's direction, hardly believing his old friend would ever truly antagonize himself like this.
Dimple gritted his teeth, creased his brows, and let out one large shout along with a massive force of energy! "WHO THE H### SO YOU THINK YOU ARE!?" Then he quickly prepared for one mighty strike, mouth opening wide to form a massive sphere of light. "GODLY BEEEEeEeEEeEAM!!"
Mob shielded himself in a hurry as the MASSIVE beam came crashing against his skin!
"Crap!! I went all out!" Dimple's eyes widened, realizing too late what he had just done. "Sh-shigeo, are you--" That's when he felt it... Mob's true power..." Through the settling smoke, two solid white eyes glared. Those quickly dissipated, but the boy's glare peeking through was just as terrifying!
"You actually caught me off guard there... Could have actually killed me." Mob stepped forward, in shock about what had just happened still. "Tell me... Was this your plan the whole time?"
Dimple runner the back of his neck. "I don't know what to tell you, kid. Ever since we met, my plans were to take advantage of you..."
"That makes me sad... So then.." Mob's hand rose out of the wall of fog toward the golden man. "This is goodbye?"
Dimple full-on freaked out! In a desperate attempt to save himself, he charged the boy and struck him with one mighty punch.
...All that did was clear the smoke away... revealing Mob's monkey shirt.
. . .
"Holy s###, that shirt is lame!!"

"What on Earth possessed you to wear that!? I mean, COME ONNN! Where did you get that?! A bargain bin!? Please don't tell me.. you- you actually thought it would look cool!" Dimple was beyond astounded. Mob's power erupted out of him, directed above the two and into the air. As his power flew up in a beautiful array of color, the two teens fighting, who were both bloodier and worn out than before, were carried up into the sky inside of magical bubbles. Gently, the two were set down on the ground outside of the broccoli where they would be unharmed.
===============================
Since the fight and chat continues pretty much exactly as it did in the show (with the added drama of Mob having left Dimple, at least in his eyes, to become a hero), I'm just going to skip that. Here. Have a couple clips of the fight that follows for your own enjoyment. Sorry if it won't load for you.
I originally watched the English dub, but the Sub is nice too. 👍
===============================
Mob stood before the sea of people on the roots of the broccoli. "Let's go home, everyone!" He called. "Let's go home..." Repeating it to himself.
And so everyone began to disperse. The great masses all dispersing at once.
"Uugh, what the h### happened..?" Bakugo sat up, rubbing his head. He quickly took notice of all his new injuries and location. "Wht!?"
"Mmh.." Izuku with his face planted on the concrete moaned uncomfortably, too feeling the wretched pain in his limbs.
"Deku!? Did we get in another fight again?!" Rubbing his wrist while still seated, the blond barked down at the only person he recognized. "And what's with all these wandering extras?!" Referring to the blank faced masses passing them tiredly. Like they were in a trance, they all ignored the two beaten teens. "A-HWAA!" Finally looking up, Bakugo's eyes shot wide open to see the massive, dark shape of the broccoli looming over them in the sky. "THAT D### BROCCOLI!.. Come on, Deku!!" Picking himself up at once. "Let's blast that thing into space!!"
Finally Izuku gained the strength to lift his head. "WAIT!"
Crack!... crrrruck...
Massive cracks branched out from the broccoli's roots. The entire plant began to glow and shake. Izuku jumped up immediately.
"There are too many people here! We need to clear the area!"
"WHAT?! What's the broccoli even doing? Is it going to attack us??"
"You think I know?!"
"Mob?" Bakugo spotted Mob among those -- very slowly -- fleeing. "Hey, you! You know what's going on, right?!" But their young classmate paid them no mind. Like he neither heard nor saw them. "HEY! I'm TALKING to you!"
"Wait!.. Look." Izuku pointed out how everyone else was acting the same way. "Whatever is going on, I think it is best that we not do anything crazy." Following his words, Izuku pushed past person after person until he was where the earth was breaking apart. The mighty roots gripped onto the ground for dear life, but clearly their fate was already decided. The plant was being blacked out of the ground whether it wanted to or not. Bakugo followed. Together, the two hung around helping people avoid falling into the crater or any large cracks forming. After all had cleared away to safely, the two searched for and followed Mob.
They followed Mob to his house. When even he couldn't explain what just happened, Izuku and Bakugo resorted to Ritsu's theories about mass hypnosis and called it a day. A very tragic day. As Izuku and Bakugo crashed on the couches, Mob knew something had gone terribly wrong.
Laying down in his futon and trying to sleep, Mob felt a swell of emotions he didn't know the source of.
"I can't remember, but... Dimple... Thank you for being my friend..." He rolled onto his side, and cried.

Reigen and Serizawa, waking up with no idea how they got there or what was going on, were somewhat relieved when a beaten up Teru offered them a place to sleep in return for being carried there.
Aizawa was found by a civilian and rushed to the local hospital via ambulance.
And Ryo woke up on the top of some random roof. He had no idea what had just happened. But, he knew he had failed at whatever it was badly. ... And that tore at his soul.
