U P O N the guidance of his Small Council, King Viserys I Targaryen takes a second wife following the death of his first. The king was still young, and he could still produce a male heir. Countless ladies were put forward. However, the role was given to the sweet and clever Alicent Hightower, the daughter of his Grace's Hand, Otto Hightower. Queen Alicent gave birth within the year to a girl, much to the dismay of everyone. Maerya Targaryen had been born at the end of the year, fat and pink in the face and red of hair. Maerya Targaryen favored her mother in every way but in temperament. After all, she was the daughter of the dragon. She learns to be a proper lady at the knee of her mother and to ride dragons at her father's. While she is not the heir that was wanted, Maerya grew to be an exceptional woman at court. On the eve of her fifteenth nameday, Maerya was married off to a wealthy man from Myr, Dilen Baldasarre, the foster son of the Sea Snake. Maerya was shipped across the sea to live with her husband, taking with her her dragon and her lover. Maerya would take wedding vows twice: once to Dilen Baldasarre witnessed by the Faith of the Seven and half the realm, and the other witnessed by the Drowned God where she says her vows of a salt wife to Dilen while Deehana takes vows as his rock wife. Years later, Maerya returns to present her children at her father's court, and in the wake of reunions and rekindlings of old alliances, there is death. The King dies, and after him, two new rulers declare themselves the righteous one. Maerya must make her allegiance known, make sacrifices, and become a twisted version of herself. As Maerya sinks further into the eye of the hurricane of the Dance, she must also reckon with her own reality. If her efforts in this war are inconsequential and if she too is simply a pawn for a force that takes shape in the shadows. She will do what she must, become who she must to ensure her family's safety, but at what cost?

ARKOS
The Quiet Storm

Arkos is a skinny dragon with a very long tail. He comes from the same clutch as Meleys and Caraxes, but is just a bit smaller than Meleys. He is dark blue with black wings and membranes. His flame is blue. Arkos is a mute dragon and as such he is unable to produce any mating calls or vocalizations (i.e. roars, growls, etc). (Note: this is not an exact depiction of the dragon, but it's as close as I could find; credits for the concept art go to RETSUSHI)

TURTLE
Mount of Princess Myreena Baldasarre-Targaryen
Turtle is a young female dragon. She is a pale blue with light grey wings and membranes. Her flame is blue. By the events of the Dance she is the size of a horse. She comes from a clutch laid by Dreamfyre, and the dragonkeepers believe this clutch to have been sired by Arkos. Their riders spent time together to help Helaena Targaryen gain confidence in dragon-riding, and so it might be said the dragons took a liking to each other during this time, despite Arkos' inability to produce mating calls.

Sun Eater is a young female dragon. She is an iridescent pale silver color with light blue wings and membranes. Her flame is blue. By the time the Dance begins, she is the size of a horse. Since she comes from the same clutch as Turtle, the dragon's are often referred to as twins, especially since they have similar coloring.

A/N:  hello! First of all thank you so much for choosing to read this fic. While I am team black, this book will be team green centric and team green apologist. This idea came to me after finishing season 2 and thinking, hmm what if Aegon had been born a woman? What if instead of a very Targaryen man, Alicent gave birth to a very Hightower woman? So this is sorta me exploring that. She in a way parallels Alicent, except she is successful in things Alicent is not, for example she is very happy in her arranged marriage and she gets to have a gf instead of just being miserable cuz she didn't get the girl she wanted lol. Keep in mind Maerya is in no way a girlboss. She is very comfortable with the role she's been given as a mother and as a wife and as a woman. This is sorta like an exploration into how the more soft and meek women will do what they can within the limits of their position. Will they eventually crave freedom? Will they feel their gender is a burden? Or are they willing to continue being the type of woman society wants them to? I am a feminist and I believe women have the right to choose who they want to be and how they want to live. But this fandom doesn't really have respect for the more feminine women who dream of falling in love with knights and motherhood instead of taking up the sword themselves and rushing into battle. Characters like Sansa, show Alicent, or Elia are often mocked or horribly disliked because they are traditionally more feminine and do not rebel against the status quo. Like I kid you not I've come across multiple posts and thought pieces telling the fandom that it's actually very anti-feminist to like Sansa over Arya or to even empathize with Sansa as if it's impossible to like two very different characters at once, or as if women irl don't identify or are in similar situations as Sansa (forced marriages, violence), and have to do what they can to survive. This is not to mean that you cannot like badass female characters, because duh you can! I love Brienne, I love Arianne, and Dany, and I also love Elia, Lyanna, and Arya. You can like whatever characters you want without bashing people who like other characters. Ok so rambling over, thank you for reading and enjoy. (Also the trailer was made by my lil cuz lol she's the best honestly). Also you pronounce my oc's name like may-REE-ah (kinda like maria), in valyrian it would be like meye-RÜ-aw but I'm not 100% sure my friend helped me out with figuring it out so it might not be accurate. Also expect the content of this fic to be akin to the books and show. I'll put trigger warnings at the beginning of each chapter for things like gore and stuff.
