chapter three- beautiful
"So that's it?" I gasped. We had only just found him, and had barely even talked.
Tori nodded as she filed the pictures in a manila folder. I gazed over at Niall, as he looked confused as well. His bright blue eyes were peering over at me inquisitively.
I slowly pulled myself up, Ivy in hands. Niall stood up as well, following behind me. We walked out of the room silently, Tori at my side.
"Um, where do I go?" Niall cleared his throat.
Tori eyed me before replying. "With your wife." She turned around, her tiny ponytail bobbing as she sashayed.
Niall stared at me, eye contact remaining for a moment. An awkward yet admirable moment.

The car ride was silent, yet there was so much to be spoken about. One, he had been in a car accident. Two, our daughter had been born. Three, he thought I hated him when I vowed to always love him. There were so many other things we could have been conversing about, yet silence was the only option chosen. Ivy had fallen asleep, which I was grateful for in the moment. Her questioning would be on hold.
I steer into the black pavement driveway, an entrance to the house that me and Niall once bought together. Niall stared at the familiar scene, probably surprised at the fact that I never left here. His lips were parted slightly, showing awe.
I use this moment to take in the sight of my husband. I had forgotten how much I missed his brown locks that hung low at his eyebrows when he didn't do them. The slight unevenness of his nose that still looked perfect. His rounded ears that fit perfectly with his face. Those full yet thin lips that always loved Nando's. Those crystal eyes that could kill someone with a single stare.
Wow. I really missed this man.
Yet this fact I shouldn't be surprised by. I married the man for a reason.
But I couldn't love him still. He left.
I broke the contact with that thought lingering in my mind and unbuckled my seatbelt. Niall looked down abruptly and started doing the same. He hastily opened the car door and stepped out, looking uncomfortable. I got out as well, and turned to the backseat to get Ivy.
I used Ivy as a distraction from the awkward moment that had surpassed me, and the fact that my husband who left me two years ago is now staring at me unbuckling our sweaty and sleepy daughter whom her never met.
Ivy slowly opened her eyes, glancing up at me lazily. Her arms reached up at me as I finished the last button. Her brown hair matted in a sweaty tangle from her power nap in the car. I scooped her up, and she lates her head against my shoulder, falling asleep within about ten seconds.
"Sleepy baby," I whispered to myself as I walked around the car to the door.
Niall waited there patiently, gazing at Ivy quite admirably.
"She's beautiful," he whispered.
I glanced up at his eyes that were still fixed on the girl. I smiled in return, nodding as I unlocked the door. The door swung open, revealing my living room that was docked with family pictures and our wedding portraits.
I looked at Niall, motioning for him to go in, but he shook his head. "After you."
I strolled in the house and laid Ivy on the couch. I placed my purse and the manila folder from Tori on the counter and sighed, sitting on a barstool. Meanwhile, Niall tiptoed around the room, glancing at pictures of Ivy and I.
A/N because i love you i'll add some pictures of Ivy. she's cute okay.
I caught him staring one from just after she had been cleaned up after being born.
"She was just born there," I startled him with my comment.
"She's beautiful," he smiled slightly. "I wish I was there."
He walked a little farther to where she was a bit older.
"First photoshoot," I mentioned.
Next to it was a picture from a week or so later, where she had already grown so much.
"She had already grown a ton only a week later by then," I smiled at the memory.
He stopped as he came across a one of my favorite pictures of Ivy. She had started smiling and was just the cutest little baby I had ever seen, and I was starting to see her personality show.
"She wasn't exactly smiling, but I counted it as one in my book," I laughed softly.
Lastly, he came to a picture of Ivy when she was about five months old. He glanced at it before sitting down on the couch next to Ivy.
"Who knew I could create something so beautiful," he muttered.
"Narcissist," I laughed and rolled my eyes.
At that moment, I wished I could freeze it. I wish i could be frozen in time with nothing but my daughter and Niall before me.
But you don't love him, I remind myself.
Maybe I do, I tell my subconsciousness.
At this point, who knew?
