chapter six
I sighed as I looked at a list of questions, all about Lockhart. I clenched my teeth and turned to Star, who sat next to me, looking just as annoyed as I did.
"Full marks to Miss Hermione Granger! Remembered every detail! Ten points to Gryffindor!" Lockhart said with a flashing smile.
"And now, down to business," Lockhart said, pulling out a large cage with a purple cover on it. "Now, be warned!" he said, voice changing to one of suspense. "It is my job to arm you against the foulest creatures known to wizardkind! You may find yourself facing your worst fears in this room. Know that no harm can befall you whilst I am here. All I ask is that you remain calm. I must ask you not to scream. It may provoke them." He dramatically pulled off the cover of the cage, waving his arm. "Yes, Freshly caught Cornish pixies!"
Laughter erupted around the room.
"Well, they're not very dangerous, are they?" a Gryffindor asked, snickers within his voice.
"Don't be so sure! Devilish tricky little blighters they can be!" Lockhart said, waggling a finger annoying at the boy. I rolled my eyes at Star. She matched my expression, obviously fed up with the teacher already.
Without warning, Lockhart opened the cage. The tiny, purple pixies flew out of the cage, ready for chaos. I watched as Lockhart ran out of the room.
The pixies went around, destroying things, pulling on people's ears and hair, and hanging on the chandelier. A few pixies lifted up another Gryffindor by the ears and hung him on the chandelier by the back of his robes.
The chandelier started stretching under the weight of the boy. Suddenly, it crashed down and shattered, spreading glass shards and metal across the floor. Star and I jumped up onto the desk, wands in our hands, ready to fight the pixies.
"Star, Y/n!"
She and I both turned around to see Draco standing in the door to the classroom. He waved his wand, motioning to us to leave the classroom. Star turned to me and I shrugged. I followed her out of the room.
"Thanks, Draco," Star said.
He only nodded in response.
~~~
Star and I walked down the hall, heading back to our common room when we stopped, seeing Harry, Ron, and Hermione all standing next to each other, facing the wall.
I turned to see what they were staring at, and gasped, my eyes widening.
On the wall, in big, bloody letters, were, "The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the heir, beware."
And right under it, was a cat, hanging by its tail from a peg on the wall.
"Enemies of the Heir, beware! You'll be next, Mudbloods!" he shouted.
"Malfoy! Quiet," yelled a professor. "Everyone, return to your Houses at once."
I faced Star, eyes wide with concern. She shook her head, showing that she had no clue what was going on, either. When we got back to the Slytherin common room, we immediately went to our dorms.
~~~
Months passed, and suddenly, I found myself standing here, in front of the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets. Harry nodded, and I pushed Professor Lockhart, a phony git, into the entrance first. After a few seconds and screams, he yelled, "Ow! It's safe down here."
I rolled my eyes and jumped in. Pain shot up my legs as I landed on my feet, but I was alive. When I looked at my surroundings, I saw bones, dirt, and dirty walls. We were in the sewer system.
Harry and Ron followed me down, and we all began walking down the long hallway.
Ron let out a cry as Lockhart grabbed his wand. "You guys might think that you can win, but you can't. I am mighty fine with memory charms, and I am going to erase yours!" he said, holding up Ron's broken wand. "Obliviate!"
A bright light burst from the wand and hit Lockhart in the face. He fell over and started speaking gibberish, making us laugh. Harry and I started walking again, ready to leave him behind, when he lifted up Ron's wand and pointed it at the wall. A random, blue spell shot from the wand and hit the wall, causing the rocks to start falling. A barrier blocked Ron and Lockhart from following us.
"Ron!" Harry yelled.
"Guys! Help, I don't want to be left alone with him!"
"We'll be back for you!" I responded, unsure of how to help. "Try moving the rocks!"
With a bit of hesitation, Harry and I continued walking. We came to a green door, and I told it to open.
"Whoa, that's so cool! We can both speak Parseltongue," Harry said happily.
"What? I just told it to open."
"Yeah, but you said it in snake language," my brother said with a laugh.
I laughed as the door opened and we entered the room. I was met with a long hallway, water on both sides. The hallway led to a water-filled room, a giant statue in the wall on the other side.
A girl, Ginny Weasley, was lying on the ground across the room. A large lake of water divided the room, but Harry and I continued moving across the hallway.
While we were walking, a low, deep hissing sound began growing around us. The statue on the wall opened to allow a giant snake, the basilisk, through. It began hissing even louder, slithering toward us quickly.
Harry ran through the water on the right side and entered another hallway. The basilisk followed him, so I ran to the other side, making multiple noises as I went. The snake started moving in my direction, ready to attack me, when Harry threw a rock into the hallway, confusing the basilisk. It didn't know where to go.
A loud caw sounded from the front of the hallway, and I turned to see a phoenix, Fawkes, flying above the room. He threw something on the ground in front of me, and I was surprised to see the Sorting Hat. Something shiny appeared in it, and when I grabbed the hat, I pulled out a large, polished sword: the Sword of Gryffindor. Surprised I was even able to wield it, being a Slytherin, I wasn't sure what to do.
Fawkes flew up to the basilisk, clawing at its eyes. The snake screeched, falling to the ground dramatically as the phoenix pulled them out. Now, the basilisk couldn't petrify or kill us just by making eye contact.
While the basilisk writhed in pain, Harry ran over to Ginny, and I held up the sword. The snake's mouth opened wide, letting out a scream of anguish, and I took my chance, stabbing the sword into the basilisk's upper mouth, killing it instantly. It fell to the ground again, unmoving.
"Y/n! That was so cool!" Harry yelled, still holding Ginny.
I grabbed the sword, then ran over to my brother and kneeled down next to him, ready to help in any way that I could.
"Congratulations," said a voice.
I looked up to see a teenage boy with black hair and a nice face.
"Tom Riddle," Harry answered.
Although I was confused, I held up my wand.
"You destroyed the basilisk, but you can't save your friend." His voice was too calm, sending chills through my bones. "She had my diary. She trusted it enough to tell me everything about herself. Poor girl. If only she weren't so naive, maybe she could have made it. Alas, she is, and now, she's seconds away from dying."
"Save her!" Harry yelled.
"Why should I? She has been so kind as to lend all of her strength and power to me. Soon, she'll be dead, and I'll be alive again. Isn't she so nice? You really should have appreciated her more."
Harry stopped for a moment, taking in those words.
"Stop, he's trying to get to your head!" I yelled at my brother. "We need to destroy the diary."
"And how are you going to do that?" Tom Riddle said, interjecting himself into our conversation. "With a spell? I'm afraid that some spells just aren't strong enough."
I looked at my surroundings, desperate for anything. Then, I saw the basilisk. I dashed over to it, yanked out one of its sharp teeth, and when I returned to Harry, stabbed the tooth through the diary.
"No!" the teenage boy yell.
"Was that strong enough?"
Harry twisted the tooth more through the book, creating a hole big enough to fit a hand through. Tom Riddle screamed, fading away slowly until he was completely gone.
I turned to Harry and hugged him tightly.
"We need to get Ginny to the Hospital wing immediately," I said, pulling away from the hug.
"I'll carry her," Harry suggested, picking her up quickly.
We made our way through the tunnel, using our wands to get through the rock wall to Ron. He helped us get out of the Chamber of Secrets, and we brought Ginny through the castle, all the way to the Hospital Wing.
