chapter fourteen

Nobody knew she was missing. Her last resort call hadn't gone through. Her car was submerged in a random river, phone smashed and beyond repair. Izzy sighed sadly to herself as her head fell against the wall. The room they threw her in was dark, one wall made entirely of glass but no light shone from the other side of it. She had no idea where she was and with a cuff around her ankle that kept her chained to the bed, she couldn't do much of anything. She was out of options of how to save herself. The ginger haired man who attacked her patrolled outside her cell occasionally, a wicked smirk on his face. He never said a word to her, she had no idea who her kidnappers were or what they wanted. As her legs stretched out, the sound of the chain echoed around her, a heavy frown on her face.

She hissed and clenched her eyes shut as the room suddenly lit up. She slowly stood to her feet, blinking rapidly to adjust to the harsh lighting. She walked as close to the glass as the chain would allow, her eyes darting around to try to see someone. She caught movements in the shadows outside the glass and just as she made it to the transparent wall, a light lit up a room similar to hers. An older blonde woman stared at her with panic flashing in her eyes. Looking behind the woman, she spotted a crib with a baby nestled in it. But it wasn't the baby or the lady that Izzy's mind reeling. The silver cross that hung around the unknown woman's neck was what troubled her. She'd seen the same one on the neck of a young Dominic Toretto in a photo on her Grandpa's fridge. She tried to write it off as a coincidence but when another blonde woman stepped into their view with the ginger haired man beside her, she knew it wasn't.

"You were only supposed to create a diversion Roman!" Letty shouted as her foot pushed on the gas pedal, sending her car jumping through the hole in the wall the bald man created.

"That was a diversion!" He argued, a giant grin on his face. Franco shook his head at the man's antics, still not used to his immature ways. He wasn't expecting to work with Toretto's people again, much less see any of them without Izzy being around, but when the Toretto man called in a favor, he didn't say no.

"How much of the damage explosives did you use?" Tej shook his head as he made it through the wall.

"I don't know, all of it?" Roman shrugged, ignoring the pointed look Franco's new recruit Pixar sent him. The man had drawn the short straw when it came to them pairing up. Genie had gone on his own, his car evenly paced with Dom's while Monty stuck with Franco.

"Shit, Roman, all of it?" Genie rolled his eyes as Tej and Roman went back and forth. His back molars ground together as his knuckles turned white from gripping the steering wheel tightly. He hated every second of the job they were on, knowing what was happening afterward. Images of Izzy tied up flashed through his mind, shadows dancing in his eyes at her distress.

"Split now!" A giant wrecking ball swung by them as they sped on, Genie moving to drive behind Dom, Letty taking up his previous spot. "Phase two," Dom's words echoed around his car. The job was coming to an end and his next one was beginning.

"Let's break off and meet me at the safehouse," Genie kept in line with Dom and Hobbs, his muscles tightening at what they were about to do. He kept his pace steady, knowing Dom had to be the one to make the next move. "When we get back to the base fellas, beer's on me." Hobbs nodded to Dom. Genie sped up as Dom swerved to crash into Luke, sending the man and his vehicle flying. With the giant man stuck upside down in his car, Dom grabbed the EMP and ignored the warnings and threats coming from the crashed man. Genie kept quiet as he helped Dom load the reactor in his car, the two men sharing a look before speeding off side by side. Hobbs stared at the set of red lights as they faded away, his breath heavy and mind racing.

"Those sumbitches just crossed us," his voice echoed throughout the cars. The two crews started shouting questions back at him. "Dom and Genie took the EMP."

"Bullshit!" Roman argued.

"Genie and Dominic Toretto just went rogue," his final words echoed around them, none of them quite believing what he said.

"Head back to the base," Franco instructed, breaking the silence that enveloped all of them. "We'll figure this shit out there."

Dom slammed his car shut, Genie sidling up beside him. "You followed me." Genie didn't offer up a response. Once the plane hatch was shut fully, doors slid open and with hardened expressions, the two men stepped further into the plane. Genie's eyes darted around, his mind noting little details. He kept count of every man they passed, every room and door. They were obviously outnumbered but that didn't mean he wouldn't go down swinging. As they stepped into a room full of computer monitors and desks, the ginger haired man stood to his feet and stepped in their way.

"Move," Dom's deep voice huskily commanded.

"Say that again," the smug ginger jested.

"If I say it again, it'll be to a corpse." Genie suppressed a grin at Dom's retort, the blond man folding his arms over his chest.

"I'm going to enjoy this," the ginger smirked.

"Nice job out there, you two excited about tonight?" The blonde woman popped candy in her mouth as she grinned at the two rogue men. As she approached them the ginger man whispered to her, stopping her walking. "Come with me Dom." The bald man shared a look with his daughter's boyfriend, the only person he could trust at that moment. Genie dipped his chin, silent words passing between them. With the blonde woman and Dom out of the room, the ginger man sat back in his chair, his glare set on Genie.

"You have food in your beard," Genie grunted out, his lips twitching upwards as the two hackers in the room snickered.

Franco followed behind his boss as they walked to the transparent briefing room. The last two men on his team sat with Dom's crew, his eyes fell on Monty. The mountains of a man was taking Genie's absence the hardest. After the loss of Cowboy, the three of them had grown closer and having Genie go rogue, fucked with him the most.

"Is this how you treat old friends?" Letty tossed her cuffs onto the table, watching as Nobody's new sidekick rolled his eyes and undid the cuffs on Ramsey, Tej and Roman.

"Friends?" Tej scoffed. "We don't even know who the hell this guy really is."

"Doesn't matter who I am, Tej. I'm Nobody," the grey haired man grinned.

"Nobody. So then who is he?" Tej nodded to the Little Nobody.

"Him? He's nothing. He's like, less than me," Little nobody held a brief look of offense on his face before masking it.

"We're getting nowhere with nobody," Roman stood up. "I'm out."

"Wouldn't recommend that," Little Nobody gestured for him to sit back down.

"Why?" Roman put his hands on his hips.

"Because of your botched Berlin job, you all made Interpol's top ten most wanted list."

"Top ten?" Roman's ego inflated at the thought.

"Well not you, Roman, you missed the cut. You're number 11."

"Eleven?" Roman's hand flew to his chest. "What number did they come in at?"

"Six," Nobody pointed to Luke. "Eight," he went to Letty. "Nine," to Tej. "And ten," his finger aimed at Ramsey.

"She's ten? That's impossible," Roman mumbled bitterly. "There's no way she's a ten."

"Oh she's definitely a ten," Tej intercepted, a wide smirk on his face as Ramsey rolled her eyes at him.

"Why don't we focus on somebody we're not gonna find on anybody's list," Nobody clicked a button on a remote in his hand and Cipher's face appeared on the screen. "We're waiting on hard confirmation but I believe that's the cyber terrorist known as Cipher."

"Cipher's an organization not a person," Ramsey stammered out.

"Not according to our sources," Little Nobody spoke up.

"What does she want?" Letty asked, a little annoyed with how the conversation was flowing.

"No one knows," Ramsey began. "Cipher is like a digital act of God. Anything that can be hacked is hers to play with."

"And here's the kicker - you'll never find her linked to any of it," Little Nobody was almost impressed. Monty sideeyed him, giving Franco a deadpanned look. "Her digital identity is scrubbed every few seconds."

"So she's like the bogeyman," Tej sighed.

"Hottest bogeyman I've ever seen. If yall know her, tell her to shout at your boy," Roman grinned.

"Do you ever think about the shit you're gonna say before you say it?" Pixar blurted out. He'd been given a rundown on the crew before the Berlin job and though he could admit the dark skinned bald man was comedic at times, most of his comments just invoked the urge to smack him upside the head. Roman mocked the new man under his breath, ignoring the warning look Hobbs sent him.

"What the hell does this have to do with us?" Letty was over it.

"Provably nothing," Nobody shrugged a shoulder, his tone light. "I just find it a little interesting that apparently, for some reason, she's now working with this guy." The picture changed to one of Dom sitting behind the wheel of his infamous car. None of them said a word as they all tensed up at the revelation.

"He's already delivered a fully operational EMP into her hands. Detonate that and they can turn any city in the world into a warzone." Little Nobody's words had Letty looking to Hobbs. The man's hands rose slightly in a helpless way, his massive body heaving a heavy sigh. Her eyes glanced over the elite team before looking back to the people she called family. In every situation the Toretto man lead them out of it, always having a plan or a way out and now they were being pitted against him. Letty was at a loss and all she wanted was her husband.

"So what is it you're suggesting we do?" Tej sighed, exasperated. His eyes darted to Letty, feeling defeated as he watched her posture tense up as Nobody and Little Nobody went on and on.

"So y'all want us to track Dom," Roman spoke, his tone full of disbelief.

"Yeah, I know, it's kind of a big job," Nobody began, a hint of amusement in his eyes at the situation he was about to create. "Which is why I'm bringing in an extra set of hands." He pushed a button on the remote in his hand the transparent door unlocked and with it open, in walked Deckard Shaw. The British man wore a suit, a scowl on his stubbled face, though his stride was casual. Everyone sitting immediately got to their feet, Franco putting his hand on Monty's shoulder to keep him from attacking the man who kidnapped the best member of their team.

"Don't think we've forgotten everything you've done," Letty warned Deckard. The British man's eyes darted around the room, his eyes not catching the one person he thought he'd see.

"We are not teaming up with this guy," Tej demanded. Nods of agreement went around the room, none of them too keen on having the Shaw male part of their operation.

"Let's get one thing clear," Deckard's eyes narrowed as his posture tensed up. "I ain't joining your little teams, I'm here for Cipher. Cipher came to me first. When I said no, she went for my brother. Corrupted him and left him for dead. So get this Flex," he stepped into Luke's face, not shying away from the fury in the taller man's eyes. "If I get a shot to take her down, I'm taking it."

"Taking my foot right up your ass is what you're taking," Hobbs inched forward.

"Fellas, please," Nobody lightly pushed them apart. "There's only three people in the world who have managed to track down Dom with any success. Two of which are standing in front of me. So like it or not, I don't care, you're gonna work together."

"Who's the third?" Deckard took the momentary distraction and moved away from Hobbs. "Why aren't they here too then?"

"That would be Izzy," Nobody's eye twitched as he spoke her name. "She's unavailable right now." Deckard's eyes narrowed as he observed the government man carefully. He noted the slight twitch of the man's jaw, the quick quirk of his eye as it twitched.

"You're hiding something," the British man finally pointed out. No one took much notice of the small interaction but Nobody's elite team did. Franco had been working for the man long enough to know his tics and sure enough, Deckard had been right. He met Monty's glare, a curt dip of his chin confirming that their boss was hiding something.

"Am I the only one seeing this?" Roman's eyebrows furrowed as he looked at everyone. "Why not just use God's Eye? We busted our asses getting that thing, if it can find anyone, use it to find Dom."

"Now that, is a great idea Roman." The bald man smiled smugly at the praise. They all left the transparent room and watched quietly as Tej and Ramsey powered up God's Eye and began rapidly typing away.

"Aren't you missing a man?" Deckard had counted the faces in the room and besides the Toretto girl's absence, he took note that her blond partner wasn't around either.

"Genie went rogue, too," Little Nobody answered him.

"Wait, hold on," Deckard's hands left his pants pockets as he eyed them all with unimpressed gazes. "I know the American educational system is pretty bleak but surely you can't all be that stupid." At their confused glares, he went on. "Two men went rogue and there's only one obvious connection between them. Where is Anisa?" The sound of her name had Franco walking away with his phone to his ear. The man had his own theory and he was glad someone else noticed the same thing he had.

"You think somethings happened with Potter?" Little Nobody took to using the girl's code name, the man being such a stickler for rules in his new position.

"Where is Izzy?" Roman questioned.

"She's on leave. Decided to take a vacation," Nobody answered him. "She's requested no contact." The boss man was partly grateful she didn't want communication. He'd held off on telling her about her boyfriend's actions, and now with the possibility of something having happened to her, he wished he hadn't.

"Straight to voice-mail," Franco informed them as he walked back into the room. "I have men on their way to check on her."

Throughout the conversation, Nobody's eyes flickered to the giant screen on the wall. "Uh, that can't be right," a nervous chuckle escaped him.

"Why?" Tej questioned, a hard look still on his face.

"Because that's where we are."

As if his clarification triggered it, an explosion erupted around them. They were all thrown to the ground, shielding themselves as debris and dirt rained down on them. They clutched their heads, clenching their eyes shut tight, as the intense pain seared through their minds.

"Did you enjoy that?" Cipher strode into the room, Dom and Genie flanking her. The two men avoided looking at their comrades as they walked around the room. As they noticed them start to regain themselves, Dom and Genie shot down the last of the glass walls the grenade hadn't impacted. "A concussion grenade. The effects should wear off in an hour. Probably," the blonde villainess shrugged indifferently. "Smart move using God's Eye to track us. Irritating that I had to come all the way here to get it but it is what it is I guess." As she noticed Dom staring down at Letty, she took the opportunity to taunt the brunette woman. Genie finally looked down and met the eyes of his leader. Franco sat with his back against the wall, his face twisted in pain, thiigh his eyes remained open. His eyes conveyed his silent question and when Caleb dipped his chin ever so slightly, he swore under his breath. Deckard had been right. They needed to find Izzy, and fast.
