you opened your door, smiling brightly at your friend.
"ready to go?" he asks, a grin painting his face.
"yep," you looped your arm with him, unaware of the boy's blushing face.
the two of you began making your way to school together, as usual. you noticed that akinori had been stealing glances at you as you walked side by side, but paid no attention to it.
"hey, y/n?" he starts, eyes moving to your arms, still joined.
"hmm?"
"you've been a lot cheerier than usual, did something happen?"
the sudden question made you unconsciously slow down your steps, eventually reaching a full stop, a blush adorning your cheeks. akinori stopped as well, eyes furrowing in confusion at your response.
'was i that see-through?' you thought,
" a few days ago i just sorta... ran into a friend?" your answer came out as more of a question. "he's pretty nice, so it just felt nice to see him again."
konoha's eyebrows furrowed even further,
''he'? 'again'?'
you had spotted his change of emotion, placing a hand on his shoulder,
"aki-chan, is something wrong?" a minor frown found it's way to your face,
"no, it's nothing." he shook his head dismissively, "actually, i just remembered that i have some plans before class. i'l see you at practice, y/n-chan." he detangles your arm from his, jogging away before you could reply.
"oh, okay..." you bit your lip,
'i should check on him later.'
once you arrived at your class, the room was nearly full, a few students leaving their seats to talk with their friends. you dejectedly took a seat at the back of the room, hiding your head in your arms.
next to you sat sarukui yamoto, who had noticed your rather unusual behavior.
he taps your shoulder, gaining your attention.
"y/n, you seem a lil' sad, everything good?"
"not really,"
he leaned back in his seat, crossing his arms together,
"wanna talk about it?"
you momentarily paused,
'should i tell him? i guess it won't hurt to vent a little bit.'
you cranked your head to the side, eyes on the dark brown-haired boy.
"akinori was acting a bit odd when we were walking here, i guess i'm just worried."
"really?" he raised an eyebrow at your slumped figure,
"yep," you replied, "i hope i didn't say anything wrong."
"what'd you say to him? if you don't mind me asking."
"he said that i seemed happier than usual, so i told him that i met a friend not too long ago."
yamoto appeared to be more interested after you said that, his head turned to face you.
"i see," he clasped his hands together, "well, that guy's full of surprises, you never know how he's gonna react to things. maybe you should just ask him about it after school?"
"yeah, that's what i planned. hopefully, he won't avoid me."
"alright then,"
just then, your homeroom teacher walked in, starting yet another six diabolical hours of school.
Λ ΰΌβ‘ βqΛ
'stupid akinori, you're letting her mood down.'
the boy thought to himself, scribbling nonsense on his notebook.
'well, if she's happy then it should be okay, right?
not so sure about myself, though.'
he let out a sigh, one too small to be noticeable by his seatmate. he shook his head in an attempt to stop the seemngly never-ending thoughts about you. he felt lost, clueless, why was he bothered by something so minor?
'stop it, he's just a friend, right? you're overreacting.'
"konoha-san, are you okay? are you not feeling well?" although his sigh wasn't noticeable, his appearance was.
"no, i'm all good. thanks for worrying, though."
"alright, no problem."
'damn it, and you wanna make her happy?'
usually, at lunch, akinori would wait for you at a vending machine near the canteen, this wasn't quite the case, though. it had been a while since you arrived and the boy was still nowhere to be seen. you were still a tad bit worried by his response that morning.
"y/n-chan!"
'speak of the devil.'
akinori came running towards you, a smile decorated his face, as if nothing prior to them.
'wasn't he in a bad mood before?' you were confused, but nevertheless hid it with a grin.
"oh! akinori, there you are. why are you late?"
he stood next to you, beginning your walk to your usual spot; the roof.
"sorry, sensei held me back for some reason," he ruffled your hair, letting out a soft chuckle when you sent him a playful glare.
in all honesty, he just didn't want to meet you again. not that he hated you or anything, in fact, he knew very well that it was the opposite, he simply thought you wouldn't wanna talk to him after the walk to school.
at the rooftop, you sat side by side in silence, a painfully, awkward, silence. you were itching to ask him about this morning, but he beat you to it,
"n/n?"
you responded with a hum,
"who's the friend you met?"
you nearly choked at his question,
'is this what it was all about?'
"uh, his name is kita shinsuke, i met him while shopping and he kinda saved me from something bad. do you know him?"
a sense of familiarity struck akinori in the face,
'kita shinsuke? from inarizaki? in tokyo?'
"ah, i see." he stared at his food, somehow, something so small was able to make him lose his appetite.
"why?" you asked,
"hm?"
"why'd you ask?" you recited,
"ah, well..." admittedly, the boy didn't know why he asked either, or why he even felt this way.
"wait a minute," you stopped him from answering any further, "aki-chan,"
you turned to look at him, wide-eyed.
your actions made the light-haired boy nervous, did you find out?
"are you...
jealous?"
you couldn't hold in your amusement any longer, bursting out into a fit of hysterical laughter.
"what? no! you have no idea what you're talking about." his cheeks painted a delicate pink, hands covering his face in an attempt to hide his embarrassment.
"oh my god..." you clutched your stomach while trying to catch your breath. once you had calmed down, you placed a hand on his shoulder. "you know, akinori, there's nothing to be jealous about. besides, you're my closest friend, right?"
'there it is.'Β
"oh, uh, of course." he threw a smile in your direction, but it didn't reach his eyes.
'why do i feel this way? he's just a friend. and even if they were more than that i should be happy for her. damn it, i'm exaggerating everything.
all i can do now is hope, huh?'

inarizaki's volleyball team sat on the waxed gym floors, they had been excused for a ten-minute break during practice.
"shinsuke, how's your love life going?" akagi sank back on the wall, water bottle in hand.
the topic made the older miya twin's ears perk up, closely listening to the conversation whilst pretending to be occupied.
"where is this coming from? i'm single." the captain raised an eyebrow in disbelief. "i need to focus on my studies, i don't have time for a relationship."
"but, kita-sannn, who was the girl you were with at the park?" atsumu couldn't hold his curiosity any longer, turning to whine at his caption, does his blunt captain actually have a significant other?
"i met her while grocery shopping for aran, later i saw her at the park but apparently a boy was on the verge of abducting her so i faked being her boyfriend before things escalated. i already apologized for the sudden contact, so she's okay."
"eh? it looked so real though!" the blonde-haired boy ruffled his hair, eyes closed in frustration. "i really thought you guys were dating."
kita turned to the blonde twin, eyes penetrating through his skull,
"did you take a picture of us?"
atsumu froze, feeling the stares of his other teammates. amongst the many members, osamu cupped his mouth with the palm of him hand, trying to hold back his laughter.
"haha... uh, yeah."
with no emotion on his face, kita spoke,
"delete it."
"but-" the boy flailed his arms around, trying to find an excuse that would convince the captain otherwise.
"atsumu," shinsuke's glare broadened,
"o-on it, kita-san." he reached into his bag, deleting the picture with shaking hands.
"ice cold," suna whispered to ginjima, who sat next to him.
"tell me about it," the boy quivered at his upperclassman's antics.
'he's such an idiot, are we even surprised?'
"times up, guys! get back to practice" coach kurosu clapped his hands, ushering the boys back to court.
normally, shinsuke would be the first to go back and train, this time, though, he stayed seated on the ground.
'it looked real, huh? a shame i forgot to get her number...'
a figure came up to the boy, crouching next to him,
"shinsuke, you seem to be deep in thought,"
"aran, you should be doing receiving drills," he replied, keeping his eyes on the wall.
"sorry, couldn't help but notice you sitting all alone." the boy sheepishly scratch the back of his neck. "anything on your mind? you barely ever act like this."
kita adverted his gaze to the ceiling,
"how does it feel to catch feelings?"
silence,
"what?"
"how does it feel to catch feelings for someone?" he echoed his question,
to say that aran was startled was a huge understatement. their captain, the stoic, dull, blunt, kita shinsuke, asking how it felt to take a liking to someone. it was most definitely the last thing he'd expect shinsuke to ask.
this got him thinking, 'maybe it's the girl he saved at the park?'
despite his shock, he calmly explained,
"well, i've had a few crushes back in junior high- i don't really know how to explain it, i guess, you might act differently around them? almost like their presence alone is enough to boostΒ your mood." aran sighed, "sorry, i'm not exactly an expert when it comes to things like this."
a brief stillness washed over the two friends,
"do i like her?" kita thought out loud,
aran's eyes widened even more- if it was even possible.
'who in the world has the power to make him act this way?'
"who?"
"the girl i met while shopping, l/n y/n." kita said, nose scrunched in puzzlement, "do i like her already?"
"ah, i'm not sure," aran's stare diverted to various places, still amazed by kita's newfound behavior. "tell me then, how do you feel?"
"well, i do act softer around her," he considered, "when i first met her, i gave her a head pat, but it felt so uncontrollable? like i couldn't resist it."
"what? you gave her a head pat?" more added shock to the one and only aran ojiro,
'the affection at the park was understandable, but what?'
"i did, but i already apologized for it." he quickly explained, "seriously, i don't know what came over me, all of the sudden i had a 'big-hearted' moment with her? i barely even know her, it feels wrong to say i like her already."
he felt frustrated, never in his life did he think he'd get so caught up in a matter like this.
"ah, well, maybe you should just give it some time? you met her all the way in tokyo, there's no telling when you'll meet her again."
"yeah, you're right." kita spoke, sunk in thought,
"alright then, let's get back to practice, yeah? "
"agreeable,"
Λ ΰΌβ‘ βqΛ
as kita walked home, he couldn't help but think,
'when will i meet her again? am i being clingy?' he un-consciously glared at the concrete ground, startling passersbyers, not that he cared, though. forget it, i have other things to worry about.'
right then and there, a small quiver came from his phone, notifying the boy of a new message. it read;
