your drained figure stepped out of the train, phone in hand along with your suitcase in the other. being on a train for three whole hours wasn't particularly the best thing to experience, with rowdy children and uncomfortable seats, it was difficult to feel at peace. next to you stood your father, who had been occupied with a phone call- your mother, to be precise.
"yes, we just arrived," he spoke, ushering you to follow him as the two of you walked through the crowded terminal, "mhm, she's here. alright, just a 'sec,"
he handed you his phone, gesturing you to speak. you cheerfully accepted the device, placing your suitcase on the ground. gently pressing it against your ear, you spoke,
"hello?"
"y/n! how's my favorite daughter doing?" your mother's enthusiastic voice reached your ears,
"i'm your only child,"
"whatever, kid, you didn't answer me. how are you?"
"pretty good, although i could be better," you answered, rubbing the nape of your neck with your free hand, "i've been sitting through a three-hour train ride, now my back hurts like shit."
"ah, i know how that feels," she sympathetically sighed, "being in labor hurts more, though."
"mom, what-"
"anyway!" she cut you off, "i'm surprised your dad convinced you to join, do you have plans or anything?"
"well, uh, i'll be meeting a friend that tobio... introduced me to."
"oh? i'm glad tobio's getting you to meet more people,"
"yeah, me too."
"alright, well, i hate to end it here, but i've got some things to do, see you later, yeah?"
"yeah, i'll see you later, mom."
"bye, sweetie!" she hung up before you could reply,
"...bye?"
you turned to your father to return his phone, only to be met with a flick to your forehead.
"ow!" you rubbed the spot in an attempt to ease the pain, catching a glimpse of your father's deadpanned face, "what was that for?"
"language," he replied, taking the phone from your grasp.
"but-" you stopped upon seeing his glare, backing down from the argument, "okay,"
he sighed, making his way to the station's exit,
"alright, then, let's go. we have to put our things in the hotel," he spoke, "after that, you're free to do whatever you want."
you quickly grasped your suitcase, trailing behind him shortly after.
at the hotel, you laid sprawled out on the bed after a quick shower. you scrolled through social media to pass time, checking the clock every once in a while,
'11:31 am'
'atsumu's still in school, maybe i should wait for a text from him.'
your dad had already left for work after placing his things in the room next door, leaving you lay in boredom.
'but what am i supposed to do now? staying on my phone makes me lazier than i already am,'
you let out a grunt,
"fuck it, i'll just take a nap." you spoke to no one in particular, wrapping yourself in the warm blankets, "let's just hope atsumu gives me a wake-up call,"
you closed your eyes, only then then realizing how tired you already had been. you melted into the soft fabric of the bedsheets, drifting into a calm slumber.
at least, that's what you wished had happened.
rinnggg!
a call from your phone stopped you from dozing off,
'fuck you, whoever you are.'
you irritatedly answered the call, not bothering to check who it was.
"what the fuck do you want?"
"woah, there, y/n-chan, no need to be so mean." an unfamiliar voice spoke, causing you to take a glance at the contact's display.
your eyes widened upon recognizing the name, mouth hanging agape,
"atsumu? aren't you supposed to be in school right now?"
"yeah, but i sorta sneaked into the restroom just to call you." he sheepishly said, "your voice is pretty."
"astumu, you can't just skip education for me!" you exclaimed, eyes growing wider by the second,
"oh, but i can." he cheekily stated, "can you come over for practice later?"
"practice? you're crazy, i'm gonna be a distraction, dumbass!"
"nah, it's fine, you're too boring to be a distraction, so you're all good."
"motherfucker,"
"i'm kidding!" he chuckled, "just come by for a bit, and then we'll get some ice cream afterward, yeah?"
"you barely even know me, why are you doing this?"
"don't know," he blankly said, "whatever, whether you like it or not, you're gonna visit us and we're getting ice cream."
"atsumu, i'm not gonn-"
"be here by 3, i'll send you the school's address. see you, y/n-chan!"
and with that, he hung up.
'damn it, atsumu.'
a small ding! came from your phone, signifying that you've gotten a message.

atsumu happily skipped his way back to class, not caring if nearby classes heard his loud steps in the spacious hallway.
once he reached his class, he opened the door, walking back to his seat with a large smile on his face. the boy didn't bother to worry about the stares he earned from his classmates, continuing his schoolwork as if nothing had happened.
to say he was excited was an understatement, he was more than thrilled at the thought of meeting his newest friend. hell, the boy couldn't even get a proper good night's sleep.
his knee unconsciously bounced with anticipation,
'i can't wait!'

"i'm gonna beat his ass," you groaned into your pillow, still irritated over atsumu's last-minute plans. "so this is what sakusa meant by 'annoying second-year setter', huh?"
'at least i have something to do, something to look forward to.'
you let out a sigh, shifting so that you laid on your back,
'still, what am i supposed to do now? it's not like i can time-travel my ass to the future,'
just then, an idea popped in your head,
'maybe i should buy them some things from the market, practice is pretty tiring, right?'
you scoffed, standing up to take your bag, quickly slipping your shoes on with no effort.
'you better thank me for this, 'tsumu, you're lucky i'm a decent human being.'
at the mart, your eyes slowly scanned the numerous shelves, shopping basket in hand. resulting from the fact that atsumu, and, kind of, kita, were the only people you 'personally' knew in inarizaki, you had no idea what to buy.
did they like junk food? bread? are they even allowed to eat junk food? you were clueless.
'i guess i should just go for it, if they won't eat it, i will.'
and so you strolled around the mart, choosing out snacks and beverages for the boys. after paying for the items, you walked out, checking the time.
'12:02 pm'
'3 hours, huh?'
examining your surroundings, you searched for an activity to fill in your free time. your face visibly brightened at the sight of a neighboring cafe,
'bingo!'
you walked into the small shop, studying the various assortments of cakes and pastries. the place wasn't full, with very few people sitting on the wooden seats, most of them had been occupied with papers or laptops; typing and writing away in their bubbles of concentration. the scent of coffee beautifully filled the atmosphere, making you sigh in contentment.
you happily walked towards the counter, ordering a basic cup of sweetened iced tea. taking a seat close by a window, you scrolled through social media whilst sipping on your drink. coincidentally, you were met with atsumu's post.
'i really can't escape this kid, can i?'
the photo consisted of atsumu, a boy who you assumed was his brother, and three other boys. among the three boys was a brown-haired boy, who appeared to have paid no attention to the camera's existence, and another boy who had been smiling happily at the lens. at last, your eyes landed on a face you've been anticipating for days.
kita shinsuke
'damn,'
unlike the rest, kita's face remained emotionless, eyes blankly staring at the camera. you frowned at the sight,
'did something happen?'
you decided to shake it off, liking the post and scrolling away.
'everyone has their bad days, that's probably the case.
i hope i don't make his mood worse,'
you spent the rest of your time in the cafe binge-watching shows on your phone in an attempt to kill time, eagerly wishing that time could pass by faster. you began regretting your choice of seating, shifting uncomfortably on the hard, wooden chair. sitting on the soft couches would've been a much better choice, regarding the fact that your butt had started to feel numb.
you checked the time once again,
'02:48'
'thank god,
nearly three hours on a fucking chair.'
you quietly sighed in relief, making sure not to bother the nearby customers. turning on your phone, you searched up the address sent by atsumu. much to your surprise, it wasn't that far away, with the building being 10 minutes away by foot.
your heartbeat quickened as you walked to the campus,
in all honesty, you were starting to feel nervous, but you were clueless as to why. was it because you were gonna meet atsumu for the first time? because you'd be meeting kita again? it was simply unexplainable.
you took a deep breath,
'you can do it, pussy.
it's just atsumu, right?
woman up, y/n.
woman the fuck u-'
a boy who had been running at full speed harshly bumped into your shoulder, but it thankfully wasn't enough to make you tumble. you hissed at the contact, rubbing your shoulder in irritation. just as you were about to complain, the boy had already started running again, leaving you to clutch your shoulder in discomfort.
you glared at his back as he sprinted away, but brushed it off, continuing your trip to inarizaki. you massaged your shoulder every once in a while, hoping that it'd lessen the pain.
you checked the map on your phone, seeing that you were near the school premises. soon enough, you arrived at a large building. you quickly glanced at your phone's clock,
'03:02 pm'
'so things didn't go as planned, huh?'
you quickly dialed atsumu's number, placing the device next to your ear. the said boy picked up after a few rings, his bright voice filling your ears.
"y/n-chan! are you here already?"
"yes, i am, atsu-"
the boy didn't give you a chance to continue, hanging up before you could finish your sentence.
not long after, a tall figure came running in your direction, arms frantically waving at you. you squint your eyes at the person, eyes widening in shock once they got closer.
"y/n-chan!" atsumu exclaimed, engulfing you in a tight embrace. his arms squeezed your shoulder that had been hit, making you wince. he, however, seemed to have been too distracted by your presence to notice, holding you even tighter.
"a-atsumu?" you stood dumbfoundedly, awkwardly returning the hug.
the boy pulled away, eyes beaming at your frame,
"am i your first? your first hug? i am, right?" he gleefully spoke,
"y-yes, you are, atsumu."
"see! i told you i would be," he pinched both of your cheeks, grinning joyously. "you're just as pretty as you sound on the phone!"
"okay, well," you motioned to the plastic bag in your hand, "i bought some snacks for you guys,"
his eyes visibly lit up at the bag, the smile on his face growing wider as you spoke.
"that's great, y/n-chan!" he quickly removed his fingers from your face, moving his hand to wrap around your wrist and pulling you into the school's entrance. "let's go to the gym, the boys are totally gonna like you!"
atsumu dragged you through the vast halls, earning stares from students, most of them giving you confused looks. you noticed countless girls shooting bitter glares, some even clenching their fists in what you assumed was irritation. your cheeks reddened in embarrassment,
'this kid will be the death of me, in a bad way.'
at last, after a chaotic jog through the building, the two of you arrived in front of the gymnasium doors, walking up the stairs. you could overhear the sounds of balls hitting the wooden floors, paired with the loud voices of players.
"are you excited, y/n-chan?" atsumu asked, hand still holding your wrist.
"i'm a little... nervous."
"that's okay! it's pretty understanda-"
"atsumu," a voice said from behind you, "where were you? you're late, it's already past 3 o'clo-"
the voice paused mid-way, causing the two of you to turn around, looking at the said person.
your eyes widened upon meeting a familiar pair of brown eyes,
"kita-san?"

"are you alright, konoha-san?" yukie worriedly asked konoha, who had been taking a break in the midst of practice, sitting in the gym's corner. she had approached the boy after noticing he had been quieter than usual.
"i am," he replied, absentmindedly fidgeting with his bottle cap. konoha dejectedly cranked his head, looking at his manager. he shot her a smile, but the girl could sense that it wasn't genuine, "thank you for worrying, yukie-san."
