TWENTY-NINE
CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE
save who?
KATELYN SLAMS THE TOP BACK DOWN and quickly puts the chains back on before sliding down the side and sitting on the ground. Everyone eyes her warily.
"Um... you okay?" Hope asked, tilting her head and raising an eyebrow.
"Nope," Katelyn replied, shaking her head.
The box began to shake as the man inside began to thrash around. "I WANT BLOOD! LET ME OUT!" He screamed, banging on it. Katelyn breathes out and elbows the box. The movement inside stopped. "Hello?" The voice inside called. Katelyn put her finger to her lips, signaling for everyone to be quiet. "I can hear you breathing," he sings. He bangs on the top. "Come on! Let me out!"
She looked over at Hope. The girl nodded slowly and mumbled a spell underneath her breath. The movement in the box stopped and Katelyn sighed in relief. She looked over at Alaric. "I'm sorry," she said.
Alaric, Hope, and Landon's eyes widen in realization. Alaric rushed over. "Come on, let's take him to the cellar. You guys dispose of the body. Give him a proper burial," he said. Katelyn and Alaric both lifted the box and began walking back towards school.
"What?!" Lizzie yelped. "No way am I touching that!"
Alaric rolled his eyes but didn't say anything.

"Screw the both of you," Logan said from where he was sitting in a cell. His cell and Vera's were right beside each other. Katelyn and Alaric both rolled their eyes.
The blonde rubbed her temples and leaned back against the wall. She couldn't ask where her children were. Not with Alaric right there. She doesn't trust him. And she knows it's shitty because she wants him to trust her but... after everything... she couldn't. Not with her children's safety.
Vera scoffed from her cell. Katelyn could see them both clearly. "You're just mad that the Elders kicked you out of position because you killed a hunter, Logi," she mocked.
"Oh, shut up, Vera. You never had a position. You were just there because Amelia had a soft spot for you — which I don't understand, you're fucking annoying," the man snaps.
Katelyn turned to Alaric. "Can I have a moment?" Alaric shook his head and she sighed. "Please, Ric? I need to talk to them. By myself." He hesitates for only a moment before nodding and walking away.
"Buh-bye, Ricky!" Vera called after him. Alaric threw her the middle finger as he turned the corner. She turns hums and looks over at Katelyn.
Katelyn rubs her hands together before flicking her wrist. The two raise an eyebrow. "Sound barrier," she explains. "No one can hear you scream," she says with a cheeky smile, bouncing up and down on her heels. Vera scoffs once again while Logan turns away. Katelyn continues to smile as she opens her eyes. "Come on. Aren't we all friends?" She asked, pulling a sword out of one of the other cells.
Vera and Logan both gulp, backing away from the doors of the cell.
"Now," Katelyn says, running her fingers along the blade, smirking at the two. "Who wants to tell me where my kids are?" The two stay silent. "Neither of you?" She pouts. "I didn't think I'd have to stab anyone today..." She shrugs it off. "Eh, whatever. I'm hungry anyway."
Yes, she remembers now. She remembers everything. Everything that they made her forget. She had turned when she was 18, unlocking her Tribrid side. The witches made her forget and bonded her vampire side. Katelyn had unknowingly unlocked it once again when she died and turned into a Trinix.
"So... who's going first?" She asked, looking between the two, her eyes flickering gold and dark veins appearing under her eyes. She walks closer to Logan's cell, taking slow, calculated steps. His eyes widen in fear as his back hits the far wall. "Let's start with you," she says coldly, her face turning cold.
"Wait!" Logan says as she goes to open the door. She stops, cocking an eyebrow. "I have information that you'll want! And if you hurt me, you won't get it! You won't be able to save him in time."
Katelyn clicks her tongue and narrows her eyes. "Save who?" She demands.
"Jed. That werewolf. He was going for a run through the woods by himself today. Two witches are planning on killing him," he explained.
"Are you telling me, this is happening right now?" She asked.
"More or less," he replied.
Katelyn glares and he flinches. "If you are lying to me, I will feed you your heart." He nods, gulping. She tosses the sword back into its place, takes down the sound barrier, and puts up a boundary spell in case they do get out of their cells.
She takes off down the hallway and up the stairs, practically leaping. She rushes through the halls, pushing— or maybe shoving— through people, trying to get outside. She turns the corner and runs smack into Lizzie.
Instinctively, she catches her and the girl grunted, gripping onto Katelyn's biceps tightly. "Where's the fire, Wolf Girl?" Lizzie asked snarkily as Katelyn pulled her back up into a standing position. "I thought you were with my dad," she said confused.
"I... was but then he had to do something. Look, I really have to go, but, um, can we please talk about... well, everything?" Katelyn asked, holding the girl's waist.
Lizzie nodded. "I'd like that," she said with a smile.
Katelyn grinned back and kissed her forehead before rushing out of the school. She listened for a heartbeat and tried to get Jed's scent. She finally caught his smell and used her vamp-speed to get there.
She saw two witches— one boy and one girl— standing over Jed's body. His shirt was cut up and blood dripped from his wounds. He was holding his head and screaming, begging for them to make it stop.
Her fangs slid out, her eyes turning an amber-gold with dark veins dancing underneath. She lunged at the girl, her fangs piercing her skin. She screamed out of fear and pain before she made a gurgling sound and dropped to the floor, dead. Katelyn spits out the piece of skin, blood around her mouth, dripping down her chin. Her eyes focused on the boy who tried to say a spell.
She beat him to it, tossing the boy into a tree and hearing his spine snap. She grunted, appearing beside Jed who was breathing heavily, his hand holding one of his bad wounds. She put his head in her lap and gently ran her fingers through his hair.
"K-Katelyn..." The boy gasped. Katelyn could feel his life force slowly slipping away.
"Don't talk," she said quickly, flicking her wrist. She didn't want anyone from the school to die because of her. They didn't deserve it because of her screwed-up life. A ring appeared in her hand. It was thick and silver with a wolf's face on it. Two bright red, small little garnet gems, we're its eyes.
"I-I... d-don't want... to... die," he said.
She looked around but they were both too far from campus for anyone to hear them without actually wanting to. She quickly grabbed the boy's hand, holding the ring up to his eyes. His eyes fluttered shut and fluttered back open, barely holding on. "This is a ring," she says.
"No shit sherlock," he grunts.
"Don't get smart with me," Katelyn hissed. She rolled her eyes. "This will keep you alive. An infinite amount of blood is infused. You die with this ring on, you come back as a vampire. If you put this ring on, you are now part of my pack forever. Do you understand?"
He nods.
"Do you want this."
"Y-Yes."
"Then, I, Katerina Mikaelson, invite you, Jed Volex, into my pack." She slides the ring on his finger, watching the eyes glow brighter and a purple line goes around the ring.
His eyes fly open, inhaling sharply.
Power courses through her veins, making her body tingle. She exhales deeply, her eyes fluttering shut. She opens them a moment later.
Katelyn watches as his wounds heal. She smirks down at the boy. "Welcome to my pack, Jed," she said.

Katelyn knocked on the Saltzman twin's door which was open. Josie and Lizzie's conversation ceased as they saw her standing in the doorway.
"I need to speak with Hope about something," Josie said, giving her sister a look that got a glare in return. Josie quickly fled the room, but not before giving Katelyn a quick smile.
Katelyn closed the door behind her and walked over to Josie's bed, sitting down across from the blonde siphoner. "Hi, Elizabeth," she said, looking into the girl's blue eyes.
"Hi, Katelyn," Lizzie said softly.
Katelyn took a deep breath before getting up and sitting down next to the girl. She took Lizzie's hands in hers and rubbed the back of them with her thumbs. "I want to start off with, I really like you. Like a lot. More than I have ever felt for someone before," she confessed with a nervous smile.
"Well that's good then," Lizzie said. "Because I like you too. A lot."
Katelyn looked down at their hands, interlocking their fingers. "When I marked you... That was my wolf. It's something extremely intimate and I didn't mean to do it." She looked up at Lizzie who was staring at her, slightly hurt. "Not that I didn't like it," Katelyn quickly assured, moving closer to the girl, resting her forehead against hers. "It's just... that's... it's a bonding thing. Luckily, we haven't completed it yet. We're so not ready for that and maybe one day..." She looked into Lizzie's eyes once again.
She could definitely see a future with this girl. Her. Lizzie Saltzman. Every flaw, every perfection, every scream, every laugh, every smile. All of it. It was just a matter of time. No one knows what will happen in the future but Katelyn knows that this girl. Right here, right now.
She'll care for her as long as Lizzie lets her.
So she smiles. "Maybe one day we will be," she said softly. Lizzie closes her eyes, bumping Katelyn's nose with her own. Katelyn moves onto the next thing she wanted to talk about. "I'm not sorry I ditched you at the party," she breathes with a sigh. Lizzie opens her eyes. "I'm not because I don't know what would have happened if we hadn't saved Josie. I wanted to tell you where I was going, what was going on but I feared that there wouldn't be enough time. No." She shook her head, sighing in frustration. "No, I am sorry, but I wouldn't change what I did—"
Lizzie slants her lips over Katelyn's, effectively cutting off her rambling. Katelyn relaxes immediately, pulling the girl closer, kissing back. Lizzie let go of her hands and caressed her face. They pulled back when they needed to breathe— or Lizzie needed to at least. "You have no idea how grateful I am to you, to Hope, to MG, and even to Satan." Lizzie shakes her head. "I can't even imagine my life without Josie and I know I've been a crappy sister, but I want to fix that. Josie's my other half. My twin. My best friend. A part of me— a very large part— would've died right along with Josie if you guys hadn't saved her."
Katelyn listened closely, not interrupting, just letting the younger girl let everything out.
"Josie told me about her and Hope and about when we were 13 she burned down Hope's room because of a love note." Lizzie giggled slightly. "She had done it to avoid getting hurt and made Hope and I think we said mean things about each other."
"Well, from now on... you two don't have to hide anything from each other. You have me and Josie has Hope. And Hope's really not that bad. She can be annoying at times—"
"Hey!" They both looked over at the door to see a pouting Hope and a giggling Josie.
Katelyn smirked at her little sister while Lizzie laughed.
