THIRTY-SIX

CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
impossible becomes possible

"It always seems
impossible
until it's
done"

"YOU THREE GOOD?" HOPE ASKED HER niece and nephews.

"We're good," Andrea said, a ball of ice forming in her hand.

Hope shifted once more and ran at the witches with a shifted Landon and Jed right behind. The witches began throwing spells, wisps of magic flying from their fingers.

The three tore as many witches as they could apart.

Griffin used his bo staff, looking like an expert for someone who had never used one before, and kept the witches from getting too close to his siblings.

Andrea used the wind and the rain to her advantage, turning the rain into sharp ice shards and impaling some of the witches or making the wind throw one of the witches into the air only for them to die as soon as they hit the ground.

Nikolaus used the Earth and fire spells. He'd make the ground open up and swallow a couple of witches that were giving Landon an aneurysm and lit the others on fire-- not even the rain could put them out in time.

The witches fought hard but they were no match for some of the most powerful beings on the planet. The attackers were growing tired while the defendants were just getting started.

Finally, the six got rid of them all. They had called reinforcements and another twenty had shown up before that but they were no match.

Hope, Jed, and Landon turned back, covered in blood.

"They'll come back," Andrea told them. "They always do. They won't stop until they are all dead or we are."

"Then we make sure they are all dead," Hope smirked, scooping her up and spinning her around. The girl giggled a bit, holding onto her aunt. Hope set her down and ruffled Nikolaus's hair.

A loud howl ripples through the air. It isn't as loud as Katelyn's but it's there. They all look towards the source, finding themselves looking at a group of wolves, a Heretic, and Vera.

Hope knows exactly who they are.

They're the rest of the pack.

Katelyn finished off another round of witches, her sword coated with blood that ran down the blade towards her hand as the rain continues to pour.

She looks down at her most recent wound, seeing her stomach healing fairly quickly.

A branch snaps and she spins around, the tip of her sword pressed lightly into the intruder's neck.

"Easy there, hotshot," the dark-haired girl said, flicking the sword away.

"Katie?" Katelyn asked, surprised. "What are you..."

Katie rolled her eyes. "Did you really believe that I would let you fight these bastards alone?" She argued.

"I... guess not," Katelyn chuckled, her whole body relaxing in the girl's presence. "I'm glad you're here, Kat."

"So am I," Katie said, pulling her close and connecting their lips. Katelyn kisses back for a split second before pulling away. Katie raises an eyebrow and Katelyn cleared her throat.

"I, uh, have a, um, girlfriend," she grunted, still shocked.

Katie's whole demeanor changed. "Right. The blonde," she gave her a strained, awkward smile and nod, turning away.

"Katie..."

"I know, Kate. We're different than we were a year ago," she interrupted, shaking her head.

Katelyn opened her mouth to say something but never got to since her body was flung through the trees, landing on the field outside of school. She groaned a bit and jumped back up, scooping her sword up.

Two witches walked out of the forest with two very large wolves in between them. One was pure black with dark red eyes and the other was pure white with light blue eyes-- both equally menacing.

They snarl as they get closer to Katelyn. She doesn't move nor does she show any sign of fear, because she isn't scared. The witches stop and allow the wolves to walk closer. She lets them, the two wolves circling her, sniffing her.

Their tails begin to shake quickly and they nuzzle each of Katelyn's cheeks. She smiles slightly and looks between them. "Hello, pups," she mumbled. Katelyn raises her sword in the air and the two wolves almost freeze. She points the tip in the direction of the fight going on and the two wolves let out deafening howls before bounding towards them.

Katelyn turns back to the two witches and waves like one of those villains in the movies before she throws her sword. Their heads come off before they can cast a spell to stop the impending piece of metal. The sword comes back into her hand.

Katie comes out of the forest, running towards the fight and Katelyn turns to look at it.

Her pack is there. Her children, her sister, her friends. Her mother and father, her family. They are all fighting the witches.

Katelyn's eyes go to the large portal ripping through the ground and where one of the witches-- Veronica-- is dragging a struggling Griffin towards it. "No," Katelyn whispered, knowing exactly what the godforsaken thing is. "VERONICA!" She yelled, making the fight pause and everyone look at her.

The witch smirks evilly at her, holding her son by the throat and keeping him on the edge of the portal. Katelyn sped towards them, dropping her sword. She shoves Griffin out of the way, using her body to shove Veronica and, unfortunately, herself into the portal. The witch roars in anger as Katelyn closes her eyes, falling into the bright white light.

"MOM!" Nik, Andrea, and Griffin yell.

"KATELYN!" Hope, Lizzie, Josie, Penelope, and the entirety of the Super Squad yell.

The portal closes, trapping Katelyn and Veronica in the other world where time is different.

"No, no, no... not again," Griffin whispered, tears welling up in his eyes.

Katie's legs give out underneath her, bringing a hand up to her mouth as she begins to cry. The pack knew where she went and how brutal it is in there.

"Huh," one of the witches chuckled, smirking coldly. "Looks like you won't get that reunion you were hoping for."

Hope's eyes turn gold, her face displaying one thing: murder. She raised her hand, her sister's sword flying into her hand. The witches all back away from her, their eyes widening.

"That's-- that's impossible!" One yells.

Hope threw the sword, the tip of it impaling into the witch who spoke first. He choked on his blood and collapsed on the ground, the sword flying back into Hope's hand. She raised her hand, palm facing away from her and fingers spread out.

The witches all screamed in pain and agony, falling to their knees. She slowly closed her hand into a fist, the witch's life force going with it. When her hand closes, the witches stop breathing and drop to the ground in lumps.

"Si volunt pacem, para bellum," Hope said.
