Shadows and Sisterhood
I was jolted awake by a persistent knocking at my door. It had become a regular occurrence โ whether it was my master knocking or Anakin, or sometimes even both. Occasionally, the clones joined in on the chaos.
The truth is, I hardly ever get a moment of quietude for myself, but I'm not here to complain โ at least not right now.
During my apprenticeship under Count Dooku, I spent a lot of time alone. It's comforting to know that I'm not as solitary anymore.
I pushed off the covers and let the blanket slip from my strong frame, feeling the cool air against my skin. Just a shawl draped over me, I made my way toward the door, gripping a blade in my hand. I knew Anakin had feelings for me, and seeing me in a state of undress wouldn't do anything to quell his need to be close.
As I opened the door, I was greeted by Obi-Wan and Anakin, both scanning me with surprise. A flush of crimson crept up their cheeks, but they maintained their composure.
"Nyx, Anakin and I have been sent by the council to investigate a new threat," Obi-Wan said, his tone steady with arms crossed.
My heart sank at the prospect of once again facing an unknown adversary.
"Who is it?" I inquired, dread creeping into my voice.
Obi-Wan activated a hologram that illuminated a Zabrak with a glowing axe.
"We believe this is a new incarnation of Count Dooku's efforts, following the disappearance or death of his former apprentice, Ventress," Anakin explained, his expression serious.
As I chuckled, I said, "What an idiot he's become."
"Meet me in the hangar; I'll be there shortly," I instructed, turning to close the door behind them.
Anakin glanced at his friend with a sly grin. "Was it just me, or did you notice how Nyx was dressed?" He shivered as if recalling the sight.
Obi-Wan jumped slightly, playfully jabbing Anakin in the chest. "Keep those thoughts to yourself, Anakin; I don't need them cluttering my mind. And yes, I noticedโshe's stunning. But try to keep your pants on." He turned and headed toward the hangar, adding, "Come on now."
Back in my quarters, I held a small title pin, breathing it in as I connected with its weight.
Men.
I quickly slipped into something more practical for a mission. I donned a fitted black tank top, its fabric soft against my skin, paired with layers of intricately designed necklaces that jingled slightly as I movedโa subtle reminder of my identity in the chaos of war.
With a steely resolve, I stepped out into the corridor, where I found Rex waiting for me, his armor reflecting the dim lights of the ship. "Rex," I greeted, and the loyal captain nodded his head in a respectful gesture, his eyes sharp and vigilant.
"General Skywalker and Kenobi are waiting for you in the hangar. We need to move," he said, urgency lacing his tone.
Together, we traversed the bustling hallways of the Venator-class Star Destroyer, passing clone troopers stationed at their posts. Each one offered a nod or a salute, their voices echoing in unison. I shook my head, trying to quell the strange mix of admiration and disbelief.
Everything feels surreal, I thought, feeling the pulse of the Force around me, a gentle hum that mirrored the quickened heartbeats of my comrades.
As we reached the hangar bay, the massive doors slid open with a mechanical hiss. Inside, Anakin and Obi-Wan stood before one of the Republic's sleek ARC-170 starfighters, deep in discussion with Commander Cody. The glow of the hangar lights illuminated their familiar silhouettes against the backdrop of the starship.
Both Jedi turned their attention toward me as I approached, their expressions shifting from seriousness to relief. Rex stepped away, marching off to relay our readiness to the pilots, his armor echoing with each purposeful stride.
"Good to see you," Anakin called, a grin breaking across his face. "We've all been waiting."
"Let's get moving," I replied, stepping into the ship's cargo hold, the scent of metal and oil filling the airโa familiar aroma that had become oddly comforting.
As the engines roared to life, the ship trembled beneath us, a beast awakening from slumber. The hangar bay doors parted, and we surged into the void of space, the stars twinkling like distant hopes. The ship ascended, transforming into a speck within the vast darkness, ready to answer the call of destiny.

As I returned to the dark, mysterious planet of Dathomir, I felt a chill run down my spine. The suffocating presence of this sinister realm had a way of making the air thick with anticipation and dread.
Our ship landed with a soft thud on the uneven terrain, and as we disembarked, I could feel the piercing eyes of the Dathomirians hidden among the shadows of the ancient trees, cautious yet curious about the outsiders who dared to step foot on their hallowed ground. I held my hand up in an instinctive gesture of peace and made my way into the town's curved archways.
"We have come to talk about peace," I stated firmly, my voice steady despite the unease settling in my chest. My gaze locked onto a Dathomiri who stood tall among the rooftops, his presence commanding and regal.
He sprang forward with surprising speed, hair tinged with gray, yet his posture was straight, a testament to his authority as the leader of this place.
"What is your name, woman?" he asked coolly, his eyes narrowing.
I smiled, revealing the sharp points of my teeth. "Nyx."
His eyes widened slightly. "Nyx? As in Count Dooku's apprentice?" he inquired, and in that moment, a wave of dread washed over me.
Without a second thought, I lunged forward, bringing him down to the ground as I wrapped my fingers around his throat. The other Dathomirians instinctively moved to save their leader, but a low growl from my lips made them halt in their tracks. Obi-Wan and Anakin stepped forward, lightsabers drawn, ready to protect me.
"You will not use that name or that title!" I hissed, my voice sharp and filled with rage. "I am far from his pawn now! I have a new masterโone who will give me the potential I always needed. Dooku only dragged me down." I released my grip, and he fell heavily to the ground, a shadow of his former self.
"The dark side is weak," I snapped, glaring at the male Zabraks encircling us.
"The dark side is cowardly! It abandons its loved ones and lets hatred dictate its choices. Your friend was taken to the Count in hopes of becoming your hound's mate. She will not use him for that. Thanks to your loyalty to the enemies in this galaxy, you have lost a brother."
With those words, I turned my back on them and walked towards Anakin and Obi-Wan, who continued to stand ready with their lightsabers. "Did you get the information you needed?" Obi-Wan whispered, and I nodded sharply.
The two Jedi moved slightly, bowing toward their fallen leader. "Pray that our paths cross again soon," I called back over my shoulder as we made our way back to the clearing where our ship awaited us, ready to depart this place filled with lurking shadows and hidden secrets.

Inside the ship, I rubbed the back of my head, feeling the weight of uncertainty settle over me. "What's wrong?" Obi-Wan asked, sliding onto the crate beside me, his brow furrowed in concern.
I took a deep breath, glancing toward the control panel illuminated with navigational displays. "We need to meet the females of this clan. They're the only ones who have leads on where this monster can be hiding," I replied, my voice laced with urgency.
Obi-Wan narrowed his green eyes, contemplating my words. After a moment of silence, he nodded. "Well then, I'll inform Rex," he said, rising to his feet with a resolute posture.
As he exited the cramped quarters, I was left sitting on the crate, the hum of the ship's engines filling the space around me. I knew we were on the edge of something momentous, and with the right allies, we could finally uncover the truth hidden in the shadows of this galaxy.

As we finally reached the village where the females had secluded themselves, I stepped out of the ship, my heart pounding with a mix of anticipation and trepidation. The Jedi followed closely behind, Obi-Wan's presence steady at my side, while a contingent of clones formed up behind us, their expressions a mix of curiosity and determination.
Immediately, a palpable sense of darkness enveloped me, but it was unlike any shadow I had felt before. This was tinged with something moreโan ancient magic laced with mystique rather than outright malevolence. I raised my gaze, my breath caught in my throat as a tall figure emerged from the depths of the village.
A woman draped in a flowing red cloak glided toward us, her white-painted face serene yet commanding. The air around her shimmered, almost as if gravity had lost its hold on her. "Great Jedi warriors," she intoned, her voice melodic but firm. "What brings you to our humble planet? Surely the Republic would not interfere with our affairs, for we have declared ourselves neutral."
Her presence was both enchanting and intimidating, and I could sense the power she radiated. "We seek knowledge," I replied, trying to maintain my composure. "We have heard tales of a monster terrorizing nearby systems, and we believe you may have insight into its whereabouts."
A flicker of interest ignited in her piercing eyes. "Monsters," she mused, a hint of amusement dancing in her tone. "Ah, but what defines a monster? Is it not often the reflection of one's own fears?"
Obi-Wan stepped forward, his voice calm and steady. "We mean no harm to your people. Only to those who threaten peace across the galaxy. Please, we implore you to guide us on how to confront this threat."
The cloaked woman regarded us with a thoughtful expression, and a silence stretched between us, the weight of our request hanging heavy in the air. I could feel the tensionโthe Jedi's hopes resting on the uncertain alliance of this mystical being who held secrets of power we had yet to understand.
She sighed deeply, a sound heavy with resignation. "Fine, but I will only speak with you," she declared, her gaze locking onto mine with an intensity that sent a shiver down my spine. "I only trust females, not men. Send your... dogs back to your ship, Nyx."
I blinked, momentarily taken aback by her words. A quick glance at Obi-Wan and Anakin revealed that both shared my astonishment, their expressions a blend of surprise and slight offense. "Dogs," Cody muttered under his breath, unable to hide the indignation in his voice.
With a wave of my hand, I silenced them, sensing that any defiance would only hinder our progress. I could feel Obi-Wan's long gaze on me, his eyes speaking volumes, and he mouthed, "Call for us if anything goes wrong." I nodded, a swirl of determination mixing with my uncertainty.
Turning back to the cloaked woman, I followed her as she glided deeper into the village, her stride graceful and purposeful. The whispers of the wind through the trees felt charged, and the presence of the villagers watched from the shadows, their faces illuminated by gauzy lights that flickered against the dusk.
As we walked, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was stepping into a part of the galaxy woven with ancient secrets and hidden power. The intricate designs of the village around us echoed the history of those who inhabited itโall females, a sisterhood bound by something greater than mere allegiance.
"Why do you distrust men?" I finally asked, curious despite myself. My voice cut through the silence, causing her to turn her head slightly, the red fabric of her cloak swirling around her like embers in the night.
She paused before replying, her tone reflective. "The male warriors have brought destruction upon many worlds, seeking power without understanding its roots. A cycle of conflict continues, and I wish to protect my people from it. Trust is earned, not given."
Her words rang true, igniting a spark of understanding within me. As we approached a grand structure at the heart of the village, adorned with symbols of mystic nature, I realized this meeting would delve far deeper than just uncovering the whereabouts of the monster. It was a journey into the essence of kinship, identity, and the fragile balance between light and the encroaching darkness.
She stepped into the entrance, her silhouette framed by flickering torches, beckoning me forward. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for the truths that awaited within.
"The monster you seek is called Savage Opress," Mother Talizin stated, her voice resonating within the chamber, echoing off the ancient walls adorned with enigmatic symbols. She turned to face me fully, a penetrating gaze that seemed to pierce through my very soul. "He is with Asajj Ventress, her masterโshe's using him as a new instrument of vengeance against the Jedi."
A chill ran down my spine at the mention of her name. Asajj Ventress was no ordinary adversary; she was a dark force intertwined with the chaos of the galaxy. I shifted uncomfortably, feeling the weight of her words settle heavily upon my shoulders.
"Now," she continued, her expression softening slightly, "why do you search for this monster, as you call him?"
I sighed, the reality of our mission crashing over me like a rogue wave. "He killed one of us," I admitted, feeling a deep surge of anger rise within me. "Those who kill Jedi don't get to escape their fates easily." My words were laced with the pain of loss, the memories of our fallen comrade still fresh in my mind.
Mother Talizin regarded me with a mixture of empathy and understanding. "The cycle of vengeance brings only more suffering," she said quietly, the flickering light casting shadows across her features. "But I see you are driven by honor and the bonds of your kin. Yet, know this: seeking revenge may blind you to other paths. There is magic in mercy, too."
I felt a pang of conflict surge through me. Did they mean I should let Savage Opress go? It gripped at my conscience, challenging the very essence of my training as a Jediโa guardian of peace, but also a slayer of entities that gave in to darkness.
"Perhaps you underestimate what we face," I replied, my voice gaining strength. "As Jedi, it is our duty to protect the innocent. We confront those who threaten peace, even if it means facing our fears."
She studied me carefully, as if weighing my words against her own beliefs. "Revenge is a beast that devours its master, young Nyx. If you pursue him with vengeance in your heart, what will become of the Jedi? Will you not become what you fight against?"
Her words hung in the air, heavy with truth, and I felt the urgency of my mission settle like a stone. Was I driven by revenge, or by a noble desire to protect those unable to stand for themselves?
"I seek to understand," I said, my voice steadying, "to ensure that darkness does not consume this galaxy further. Will you guide me to him? Show me how we can confront Asajj Ventress and Savage Opress without losing ourselves to the darkness we resist?"
Mother Talizin smiled faintly, the first hint of warmth breaking through her earlier stoicism. "Perhaps our paths intertwine more than I initially perceived. If you wish to confront them, you must first embrace both the light and the shadow within, for it is in understanding all aspects of power that you will become truly formidable."
With a decisive nod, I stepped closer to her, ready to embark on this new journey. The threads of fate were shifting, weaving a narrative far deeper than simple revenge. I would not only seek to confront a monster but also strive to unravel the very essence of strength, understanding, and the choices that shaped our destinies in a galaxy torn asunder.
