Rolling her eyes as she closely follows the other boys, Blake brushes past Teresa and slowly creeps into the small hut. Wide emerald orbs snap around the small shack as she steps to the side beside Minho, furrowing her eyebrows as her dainty arms cross over her chest.
"Has he said anything?" Newt questions, lifting his worried gaze from Alby to land on Teresa, who fidgets, nervously picking at the skin around her nails.
"No." Teresa shakes her head, shifting uncomfortably under Blake's glare.
Tearing her emeralds away from the other girl, Blake's eyes soften as she looks over to Alby, sitting at the edge of the bed with his arms crossed over his chest, staring blankly at the wall.
"Alby?" Newt softly questions, taking a step forward. "Alby, are you alright?"
After a long minute of silence, Alby lifts his shaking hand up to his cheek and wipes away a tear. "We can'tโWe can't leave."
Furrowing her eyebrows, Blake snaps her orbs around the room, unconsciously meeting Thomas's confused gaze, somewhat mirroring her own.
"They won't let us." Alby shakes his head, sighing to try to calm himself down.
"What are you talking about?" Thomas questions softly, bending down to Alby's level to try and comfort the boy.
"I remember." Alby replies to the boy, not looking him in the eye as he keeps his gaze on the wall in front of him.
"What do you remember?" Thomas shakes his head curiously.
"You."
"You were always their favorite, Thomas." Alby snaps his glazed orbs to the green-eyed girl above himโwho shifts uncomfortably at the thought of someone remembering things she couldn't. "So was Blake."
Letting her face scrunch at the revelation, Blake shakes her head as her gaze connects with Thomas'.
"Always" Alby whispers, glancing between the two.
Swallowing the sandpaper-like feeling in her throat, Blake's ears perk up and strain at a noise outside the shack.
"Why did you do this?" Alby shakes his head as he begins to sob, turning his gaze onto Thomas.
"Why did you come here?" Alby continues. "For Blake?" The leader's eyebrows furrow, showing his disdain.
Thomas gulps as he pushes off of his knees to stand, his face softening with guilt as he watches the older boy sob into his hands.
The mixture of screams from outside the hut causes the teens to quickly shift their attention. Rushing out of the med hut, Blake's eyebrows furrow as one of the boys panics.
"What are we gonna do?" His question wavers with pure terror.
Pushing past the boys with Thomas hot on her trail, Blake glances over to one of her close friends. "Winston, what's going on?" The small brunette asks, shaking her head as she spins around, watching the gladers run around in a panic.
"It's the doorsโthey aren't closing." The boy responds, pointing to the large entrance ahead.
Blake quickly whips around, a gasp leaving her lips as her eyes widen. "Holy shit." The small brunette cusses, her heart pounding against her chest like a drum as she gazes at the night sky setting over the open doors of the maze.
Standing in the middle of the glade, watching to see if the doors will close, Blake chews on her bottom lip, feeling the anxiety starting to kick in as the light from the torches some boys hold provide their only light.
Suddenly, the concrete structure rumbles, making the small brunette sigh in relief. Oh, thank god. Blake lets her eyes shut, taking a deep breath before snapping her wide orbs back open.
No. Blake finches back with the rest of the group surrounding her, turning slowly over to the racket. Letting her eyes widen impossibly, Blake watches in horror as the opposing side opens, birds scattering into the dimly lit sky.
"You've gotta be kidding me." The small brunette gapes, shifting her head around to glance around her.
Another loud boom suddenly cracks through the crisp night air, making the small brunette flinch back in horror as she spins to her right.
What theโ
And as if it couldn't get any worse, another loud boom rumbles through the glade, coming from the girl's left.
"Well, this is a nightmare come true." Blake whispers, glancing between each set of doors rumbling open, leaving the glade exposed to the grievers.
"Okay, Chuck, I want you to go to the council hall, okay? Start barricading the doors." Thomas ushers the boy, spinning around to bark out more orders as Newt spins on his heels to Winston, pointing towards the curly-haired boy as he sprints. "Winston, you go with him."
"Tell them to go into the forest, go hideโ๐๐๐!" Blake shouts after Winston, praying that the boy had heard.
"Minho, I need you to grab everyone you can. I'll meet you at the council hall." Thomas' voice wavers as he rips his gaze away from the keeper.
"Let's go." Minho nods over his shoulder, running off with a few boys in tow.
"Okay, Teresa, you and I are gonna go get Alby, alright?" Thomas quickly grabs Teresa's shoulders, spinning the girl around, thinking that Blake would be right behind Minho.
Screaming coming from the left side of the glade makes Thomas snap his worried gaze over. "Shit." The boy cusses, his eyes widening with horror as a griever chases after a group of boys, screaming.
Not being able to move from her spot, frozen in fear, Blake's eyes widen as screech sounds from the maze doors behind her. The adrenaline coursing through her veins causes the blood in her ears to pound rapidly, drowning out all background noises.
"No, no, no, no...I-I can't do this again.." Blake shakes her head, lifting her hands up to her face as she feels her knees wanting to give out.
At first, she wasn't afraid. Hell, she was confident she could outlast the grievers since she had last time. But once her orbs landed on the creature chasing after people she'd come to care about, it terrified her. It brought back the painful memories of just a few nights ago.
I can't do this again. No, not after last time. Blake shook her head as her body remained frozen in place, feeling the bile rise in her throat.
"All right! Everybody hide!" Thomas screams, ushering the group to hide. "Go go!"
Spinning around to face the nightmare, the small brunette's body trembles violently, letting the tears burn her wide orbs. No. No. No. This can't be happening!
"Blake, come on!" Thomas shouts, quickly grabbing the girl's hand and snapping her out of her horrified daze. Pulling her with him, the two kick their feet into a sprint with the griever hot on their trail.
Letting go of Blake's hand, Thomas rushes to help Teresa sprint faster, knowing Blake could handle herself. Pushing her legs as fast as she can, Blake races past the two toward the cornfield.
"Take cover!"
Slowing to stop beside Blake, Thomas holds his breath, crouching to kneel. "Stay down!" He whispers to the group surrounding him.
Laying a hand on Blake's back, Thomas starts to rub circles with his thumb, praying it would comfort the small brunette as she squeezed her eyes shut.
A sudden growl erupts from behind them as Blake snaps her worried gaze over, watching in horror as a claw grabs Jeff and throws him violently away from the cornfield.
"No!" Blake jolts forward, not getting anywhere as Thomas keeps her in place.
"Blake, we gotta go!" Thomas' voice shakes as he pulls her with him to stand, turning to sprint.
"Help me!" A boy whimpers off into the distance, making the small brunette squeeze her eyes shut to try and block out the screams of agony filling through the night air.
"Go go! Get to the village!"
"Alby! Are you okay?" Fry asks, ripping his worried gaze from the chaos around them to the older boy.
"What's going on?" Alby questions, glancing at the two brunettes running up as two boys hold each arm, helping him to stand.
"They're here." Thomas pants, glancing between the group, worrisome.
"The grievers?" Alby furrows his eyebrows, snapping his gaze over to the small brunette as she nods her head for his answer.
Screaming rips through the night air as the group whips their heads around, watching in horror as a griever shreds one of the gladers apart. Letting out a choked sob, Blake slams her small, shaky hand over her mouth, trying to muffle her cries.
Reaching out to the side, Thomas grabs onto one of the blades hanging on the tree and steps back.
"Thomas, what do we do?" Clint asks, looking between the two brunettes.
"Everybody, run!" Thomas shouts, flinching as a griever suddenly drags one of the boys away.
"Run, run! Blake, come on!" Thomas yells, grabbing the girl's hand again to drag her away from the danger.
"Alby!" Blake shouts, noticing the boy had fallen to the ground, grunting in pain from his wound.
Quickly spinning around, Blake rushes over to the boy and helps him up. "Ohhh shi-" the small brunette cusses, her eyes widening at the griever charging towards them.
Just as Blake thinks they're goners, spears soar through the air and pierce the griever in the head, instantly killing it.
"Oh, thank god." Blake breathes out a sigh of relief, adjusting her grip on Alby as Thomas rushes to her side in aid.
"Come on! Over here!" Minho shouts, waving the three over as he steadies another spear to defend them against another attack.
"Over here! Hurry!" Chuck shouts, leaning on the door to hold it open for the three as they rush inside to safety.
Quickly slamming the door shut behind them, Thomas slams his body up against the door. Squeezing his eyes shut, he uses all of his strength to keep the griever pounding against the door out.
Lowering themselves closer to the ground as the griever growls lowly from outside, Blake watches in horror as the creature slowly lets its metallic legs sink into the top of the hut.
Suddenly, another loud thump sounds from the top of the council hut, making all of the teenagers flinch and let out a mixture of gasps and yelps.
"Stay back, guys!" Newt whispers, stepping to the side and pushing Blake behind him.
A tight knot formed in Blake's stomach as she watched the griever sink its metallic claws into the straw roof above. Blood rushed through her body, spiking her adrenaline. The sound of her heart beating rapidly echoed through her ears, sounding like a drum as she watched a metal claw shoot down into the hut.
The clang and metal of the creature's limb sounded through the quiet room as it spun open. Quickly reaching down, the griever latched onto the support beam holding the roof together.
No...how the hell is it THIS smart? WHY?
Suddenly, the creature yanked the beam, causing all of the teenagers to scream in terror as the roof collapsed.
Coughs and terrified yelps escape through the cloud of dust. Blinking her eyes open, Blake pushes herself up to stand, wiping off her pants.
"Is everyone alright?" Newt questions, turning around to search for the small girl. "Blake?"
"I'm good" Blake coughs, raising her shaky hand to wipe some debris off her face.
"Hey, grab him! Grab him!" Someone shouts, suddenly catching the small brunette's attention.
Emerald orbs widen as one of the boys gets dragged through the hut's wall, disappearing into the night air.
"Whaโ" Blake cuts herself off, unable to finish her question as Thomas screams out her name, panicked.
"Get her down! Get her!" Thomas screams louder from across the room, moving as quickly as possible to get to the girl.
Wtf is he screaming about?
Blake scrunches her eyebrows as she slowly turns her head to see the claw spinning above her. "Holy-" is all the small brunette manages to get out before the griever's metal claw shoots down and grabs her the waist. Screaming in pure horror, Blake quickly shoots and grabs onto one of the glader's arms, holding her inside the hut while the griever and teenagers play tug of war.
"Pull her back!" Newt screams, quickly latching his hand onto Blake's arm.
"Blake, don't let go!" Thomas yells through the loud commotion, trying to think of anything to help.
"๐๐ค ๐จ๐๐๐ฉ!" Blake screams back at the boy with hot tears rolling down her cheeks.
Oh my god, I'm going to die.
Just when Newt feels his grip on the girl loosen a bit, Alby suddenly grabs his machete and raises the weapon above his head, effectively chopping off the metallic arm of the griever to get Blake back.
Falling into Thomas' arms as he holds her on the ground, the boy starts rubbing circles on her shoulder to calm her down as she clings to his shirt, letting the tears flow down her cheeks in relief.
"Blake, you okay?" Thomas softly whispers, holding onto the girl like she might slip out of his grasp once again. Turning his head down at the shocked and terrified girl, Thomas gently reaches up and cups her face, slowly scanning his dark orbs around her tear-stained face for any injuries.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Blake chokes back a sob, coughing as she lifts her gaze to Alby. "Thank you, Alby." Blake whispers softly, sending the boy a smile as Thomas helps her to stand.
"Alby! Watch out!" Chuck yells, cutting through the small moment.
Just as the boy had yelled, the griever's metallic amr shoots down from above the hut, latching its claws around Alby and harshly dragging him towards the hole above.
"Grab him!" Thomas shouts, quickly running up to Alby and reaching his hand out to grasp the boy's arm.
"Thomas, get them out." Alby softly whispers, sending Thomas a small smile. Whaโ Thomas' eyebrows furrow in confusion.
"๐๐ค!" Blake screams in horror just as Alby lets go of Thomas' hand.
"Thomas? Thomas!" Teresa shouts, quickly moving across the hut to stop the boy from going outside. "Noโdon't go out there!"
Ignoring the other girl's pleas, Thomas swings the door open and walks outside, leaving the rest of the teens to follow behind him quickly.
Blake's eyes widen as she lets her eyes roam over the glade. Oh my god. The small brunette's shaky hand raises to cover her mouth at the destruction of their home.
"Where is everybody?" Chuck questions softly, spinning around to find anyone else who might have survived.
"Wait, who's that over there?"ย Teresa questions, narrowing her eyes as she points to a silhouette stomping their way toward the small group.
Oh shit. Blake cusses upon realizing who the person is.
Just as the small brunette tries to stop the boy, Gally quickly approaches Thomas and rears his fist back, colliding it with Thomas' jaw, which sends the boy to the ground harshly.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!"
"This is all you, Thomas, huh?" Gally seethes, stepping closer to the boy with rage, boiling his blood.
Quickly rushing past Newt, Blake steps in front of the boy on the ground and harshly shoves Gally's chest, making him stumble back. "You just broke your precious rules, asshole! It's not his fault!" The small brunette shouts in the builder's face, making the boy narrow his eyes at the girl challenging him.
Not realizing what he is doing, Gally suddenly shoves Blake back, causing her to trip back a little to fall next to Thomas.
"Calm down, Gally! You just pushed a girl!" Newt steps in between the three, feeling his own blood starting to boil at Gally's actions.
Gally squeezes his eyes shut tightly but ignores the voice in the back of his head, turning to glare at the two brunettes now helping each other up. "Look around!" The builder shouts, gesturing to the destruction around their home.
"You okay?" Thomas questions softly, pushing off of the ground to stand and help the girl up as she clutches her hand to her chest in pain.
Blake nods to the boy as he helps her up, trying to ignore the hot tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Back up! Back up, Gally!" One of the boys yells.
"You heard what Alby said. Thomas and Blake are one of them!!" Gally shouts at one of the boys holding him back. "โand they sent him here to destroy everything, and now he has! Look around, ๐๐๐ค๐ข๐๐จ. Look around. This is your fault!"
Blake narrows her eyes at the boy beside her, watching closely as Thomas slowly looks down at the stinger still in his hand.
"Maybe he's right." Thomas whispers, lifting his gaze up from the sharp object to the boys arguing and fighting a few feet away.
"No..." Blake shakes her head, her eyes widening upon realizing what he is thinking.
"Thomas?"
"I need to remember, Teresa."
"๐๐ค!" Blake shouts, quickly springing forward to Thomas' side as he throws the stinger into his leg.
"ThomasโNo!"
