MONDAY. After finally being released from his cruel imprisonment inside a wooden coffin, Kol Mikaelson decides to attend Mystic Falls High School for a multitude of reasons.
The first being is that it annoys his sister and brothers. Second, he absolutely loves annoying his siblings. And third... well, that was really the only reason.
Unfortunately, his plan backfires when Elijah demands just as Kol is walking out the door, that he attempts to make friends at the school to appear at least somewhat sophisticated and normal.
Kol Mikaelson trudged through the school hallway, his annoyance evident as his younger sister dragged him toward their first period class.
He had little interest in attending, preferring to skip out and find some excitement elsewhere. Like finding a snack.
Just as he was about to voice another complaint, his gaze was drawn to a girl lounging against the lockers, a thin book in her hand.
She had golden hair cascading in loose waves and blue eyes that he noticed due to how striking they seemed to be.
At first glance, Kol only registered her undeniable attractiveness, but it wasn't enough to hold his attention.
After all beauty was nice but not exactly a completely defining attribute. He was ready to dismiss her as just another pretty face in the crowd, until he noticed the cover of the book she was engrossed in.
The cover depicted a skeletal figure, eerie and intriguing, catching Kol a bit off guard.
The contrast between her vibrant appearance and the macabre imagery of the book piqued his curiosity.
She wore colorfully stripped socks with boots. A plain pair of jeans and dark maroon sweater. Star shaped clips were holding her hair out of her face as she read.
As she flipped a page, her lips curled into a thoughtful smile, drawing him in further.
It wasn't just her beauty anymore; it was the unexpected depth and mystery suggested by her choice of reading material.
Kol's interest was sparked, his reluctance to attend class momentarily forgotten.
He found himself slowing his pace, his eyes lingering on the enigmatic girl who had so effortlessly captured his attention with the skeleton on the cover of her book.
He hadn't meet many people in the current century yet but the strange cover still intrigued him. Many hadn't been so open with such creepy depictions.
Rebekah's incessant pulling of his sleeve didn't bother him as much anymore as his eyes scanned her.
"What on earth are you dragging your feet for?" Rebekah's hissed in annoyance. Turning her full attention to her brother finally.
"Who's that?" He asked still peering over at her.
"How on earth should I know, you idiot. We've been here the same amount of time," Rebekah sassed with a small shrug of annoyance. Rolling her eyes at his idiosyncrasy.
Kol huffs in agitation and clear impatience. "Fine. I'll just compel myself an answer," He cockily spoke, walking away.
He grabs hold of some poor passing by student and stared them in the eye intently.
"Who's that girl over there with the book," Kol demanded to know.
The boy glances over to where she was standing before speaking aloud. "Emery Mosswood. She's creepy, she's always got her nose in some book about weird stuffβskeletons, hauntings, you name it. She's strange, that's for sure."
Kol lets out a small grunt in response along with a roll of his eyes.
He shoved the boy away in a different direction before walking away from a displeased Rebekah.
"Ugh Kol? Whatever I'm going without you." She resigned, walking away to first period.
"Hello there," Kol said trying to catch Emery's attention.
Unfortunately for him, Emery didn't pay him a second thought. "Can't talk, reading." She bluntly replied.
Kol raised an eyebrow at this. "But I'm hot?"
"If so, then why are you saying it like it's a question?" She retorts, still not bothering to peel her eyes away from the pages of her book.
Kol blinked twice at this, Momentarily dumb founded.
"Wha- I am! Really! I'm really hot," He said grumpily, distaste feeling sour on his tongue.
"Sure." Is all she replied with, still not bothering to gaze up at him.
Kol huffed but decided that he did adore challenges... and she would definitely be a challenge.
Kol opened his mount to speak but was cut off by the morning bell.
Emery snapped the book shut, slightly startling him. Although if someone had asked he'd lie about nearly jumping out of his skin.
"Well.. off to my first class then. I'd say you never told me your name but I don't particularly caβ" Her insult was cut off by Kol.
"It's Kol, darling. And you'll definitely be seeing more of me. I quite like pretty things with sharp tongues," He flirted shamelessly.
"Well darling, when you gain a sense of decency and don't call women 'things' then you can speak to me," She retorted effortlessly with a scoff.
-And although she had been insulting him, the way she had said darling felt like a treat.
Pushing off the lockers and heading off to her first period class as Kol's eyes followed her till she was out of sight, frowning at her words.
He hadn't meant it like that but he could understand why it had upset her.
Maybe there was some kind of modern day learning class he could take on women. Kol briefly considered just asking Rebekah but decided against it.
Kol heads over to the classroom Rebekah had been dragging him towards.
Pausing in his steps when he sees Emery seated a few seats back from the front row.
At this he smirks and makes his way over to her.
"Well here we are again. Now I may not be entirely educated on today's views but I'm sure you could teach me?" He tried helplessly.
"Nice but a no go. You sound like a bitch," She informed him boredly, not paying him a single glance.
With this she ignores the rest of his stares till class ends. Then she gets up and leaves swiftly.
Kol sighs in resignation. Silently saying goodbye to his dignity before finding Rebekah.
"Move you big Oaf, I have tooβ"
"I need you to teach me about women," Kol interrupted his sister.
Rebekah blinked twice, slowly, as if she had never in her immortal lifetime expected her brother to utter those words.
"You're kidding?" She said unbelievably.
Kol sighed already regretting asking.
"No, see I accidentally referred to women as things and now she won't pay attention to me even though I'm hot and I got this weird sensation in my chest when she called me darlinβ"
His monologue is interrupted by his sister smacking him upside the head harshly with a rolled up newspaper.
He winced dramatically and rubbed the spot she smacked with his palm.
"OW! Rebekah that hurt. Plus I'm not a dogβ Nik is though," He whined out, pitifully. Rubbing his sore cranium.
"Too bad. Now it's time for Rebekah's school for the stupid. Student population; one, you." She said, grabbing only his forearm and dragging him into an empty classroom.
Throwing him towards a deal in the front row as she went to the board.
She pulled down a map and pointed at Antarctica.
"This is you. Cold, Isolated, Aggravating and unliked by most," She says and he frowns.
"Thanks so muchβ"
"Let me finish! Buttt... there's also a nice side to Antarctica. Beauty that few can see, but any that are willing can. You just got to show it to her," Rebekah said referring to Antarctica's beautiful scenery.
Kol nodded rapidly, doing his best to pay attention to the help he was getting.
"She thinks you're a bad guy cause you made an awfully stupid comment since you've been daggered for so long. I know you didn't mean it but it was shitty and made you seem like an enemy to feminism. So now you gotta make up for it by doing better with your words. I may know you didn't mean too but she doesn't," Rebekah rants out as an explanation.
He furrows his eyebrows at this. "So I have to be nice to others?" He asked. Causing Rebekah to roll her tired eyes.
"Yes." She deadpanned in return.
He seems to think it over for a moment. "I can do that,"
She holds back a scoff of disbelief before asking him something. "Why are you doing this? You've never shown must interest in women in the past? I was beginning to think you were a bit queer,"
Kol stared back for less than a second before answering. "You thought I was gay? What made you thinkβ never mind. And If I must be bound to this gods awful town then I might as well have some form of entertainment such as the pretty girl named Emery,"
