AIZAWA WISHED HE COULD JUST take a nap right now, but there was still a lot of work to do and his day was nowhere near finished. He had just taken a pretty severe beating (although all his injuries were miraculously healed within seconds) and now he was stuck sitting at the passenger seat of a cop car with two suspects.
He glanced over at them through the rear view mirror. They looked pretty relaxed given their precarious situation, though the man looked confused while Sakura was visibly annoyed.
He struggled to put his thoughts together. Uchiha Sakura was supposed to have a healing Quirk, yet she was able to move as fast as sound and had inhuman strength. Not only that, but according to Ojiro's report, she was also able to summon a water dragon out of her mouth? What? There was also the fact that she severed the Nomu's hand in order to save him (and while he was grateful for that, there were too many things suspicious about her). She also knew one of the villains who broke into the schoolโUchiha Obito. They had the same last name, could they be related somehow?
His eyes drifted over to the villain in question. His gaze was plastered out the window, his scarred expression barely hiding his bewilderment and confusion as they drove through the city. This man somehow managed to make the Nomu disappear. Because of him, the biggest threat in USJ was dealt with. Why did he do it though? He was one of the villains who broke into the school, so why he was helping them? Was it because of Sakura?
He had hundreds of questions to give them by the time they reached the police department. Finally, now all they had to do was wait for Sakura's guardianโsome guy named Hatake Kakashiโand they could finally get the interrogation started.
When they got there, they were immediately ushered into the building where they were forced to sit outside the hall of the interrogation room.
Aizawa knew he should wait for the interrogation, but he couldn't help it. "You," he said to the man. "What did you do to the Nomu?"
"Used my Kamui on it." He replied, shrugging.
"What." He said flatly.
He sighed heavily, as if this whole thing was nothing but a tiresome chore. Aizawa was itching to punch him. "I used my eyes to send it to a different dimension."
"What's your Quirk?"
He received a weird look. "I don't have one?"
He glared at the villain. "Don't bullshit me, you just admitted toโ"
The door to the hallway opened and one of the policemen peeked his head in. "Ah, Eraserhead-san? I have someone here with me, says he knows one of your suspects?"
Ah, Hatake, Aizawa thought. About time. He nodded. "Alright, send him in."
Except it wasn't Hatake Kakashi who walked in. Instead, it was a teenage boy with red hair, no eyebrows and an 'Ai' symbol on his head. It was the sand-user whose Quirk he couldn't erase. As if things couldn't get any worse, the second the boy's seafoam colored eyes locked in on the male villain, he was immediately cloaked in a malicious aura.
Aizawa's Quirk activated once he saw the sand escape its gourd but like last time, nothing happened. The sand shot out and moved towards Obito, who evaded every time. Aizawa also noticed that the sand was shaped into sharp knives and every time it missed and hit the wall instead, a hole could be seen.
"Enough! Hey!" His scarf moved to apprehend the volatile brat, but it was easily swatted away by more sand. God, he was beginning to hate sand.
"Gaara, stop!" Sakura shouted, already at the boy's sideโand fuck, when did she break the Quirk inhibitors?!
"What is he doing here? He's supposed to be dead!" The teenโGaaraโgrowled.
"He's in the same situation as us! Gaara stop it! He switched over to our side at the end, remember?"
"All I remember," he spat. "Was him starting a war and trying to end the world."
Hold on, what the fuck was going on?! Aizawa's head was spinning. He should've just taken a longer nap this morning.
"Would you stop trying to kill me?" Obito barked impatiently, and then his eye was a swirling red and black. Wait, shouldn't the Quirk inhibitors be preventing that? The sand that was shooting at him had disappeared in a similar manner as the Nomu.
"Gaara, please listen to me," Sakura pressed on, grabbing the boy by the shoulders. His glower faltered slightly under her pleading stare. "He really has changed, I swear. So please stop attacking him."
"I don't trust him, Sakura."
"I know you don't, so please just trust me." She requested.
He sighed in defeat and crossed his arms. "Fine. But I don't like it."
Aizawa's eye twitched. As lost as he was, he did not appreciate being ignored. A few minutes later, Sakura was given a new pair of Quirk inhibotors while the red haired boyโGaaraโfound himself cuffed as well, though Aizawa was beginning to doubt they'd work anyways. Maybe the cuffs were just faulty... Or he hoped they were.
Now he was alone in the hallway with Sakura, Obito, and Gaara, all waiting for Hatake Kakashi to arriveโand goddamn it, when was he gonna get his ass here?
"Who in the hell are we waiting for?" Obito whispered to Sakura.
"My, er, 'guardian'," she whispered back, both of them fully aware that Aizawa could hear him but couldn't care less at this point. "It's... uh, Kakashi."
Obito gawked at her. "You're guardian's Bakashi?!"
She winced. "Only on paper, I swear." Then she turned to Gaara, who was on the other side of her. "Why are you here anyways? Not that I mind it or anything."
"Kakashi got a call from the school saying there was an attack," he began, his eyes still glaring at the older man. "So we decided to leave together. But then Kakashi got sidetracked by this half-priced book store and well... He did promise to get here before me though..."
Sakura sighed. "Gaara... The first thing you should know about him is that he's always late."
"Wait what?" Obito cocked his head back. "But being late is my thing."
"Well, he stole it from you."
"Hah?!"
So all four of them knew each other, Aizawa noted. He was getting more and more curious about who this Kakashi guy was, but he had an inkling it was the grey haired masked individual who was with these teens the last time they met.
He glanced over the clock and sighed. When was this guy gonna get here...?
โโโโโโข~โ๐ธโ~โขโโโโโ
It took Kakashi three hours to arrive and by that time, Aizawa was seething. Obito had already fallen asleep an hour ago (something Aizawa envied him for) and was completely oblivious to the deathly stare Gaara was giving him. Meanwhile, Sakura was in the same state as Aizawa.
"You're late!" She shrieked by the time the masked man stepped into the hallway, a book in hand. Her shout had startled Obito awake and he nearly fell off the bench.
Kakashi smiled at them through the mask. "Sorry, I crossed paths with a black catโ"
"โBullshit, Gaara said that you went off to buy porn!" She spat.
He chuckled and was about to say something until he locked eyes with Obito (who had a bit of dry drool on his chin). His book dropped to the floor. Obito had frozen up too and Aizawa couldn't help but feel he was in some dramatic reality TV show.
Tsukauchi, who had been the one to lead Kakashi, was blinking owlishly at the sudden silence. Awkwardly, he bent down to pick up the fallen book. "Er, here, sirโ" He choked on his spit when he saw the cover and blushed profusely. He pointedly avoided Aizawa's questioning gaze.ย
"Obito," Kakashi breathed out. "How...? You're alive? I thought you died!"
"I did," Obito croaked out. Tsukauchi's eyes had widened and that was Aizawa had realized that he was telling the complete truth. This man had actually died.
"He's in the same situation as us," Sakura said carefully.
"Alright," Aizawa cut in, catching everyone's attention. "We're gonna interrogate you all one by one, starting with Uchiha. Hatake, as her guardian you'll be able to accompany her." He wasn't blind to the confused look Obito wore when he said 'Uchiha' when addressing her.
"I'm Tsukauchi Naomasa, a detective of the Police Force. My Quirk is basically a lie detector so I don't suggest telling any lies because I will catch it." He warned them, before putting on his friendly smile.
Kakashi's eyes had widened at the explanation of his Quirk and he shared discreet looks at the others. They could read the message in his eyes. He wanted them all to tell the truth. If this man's Quirk was legit, then there was no way they could deny their storiesโno matter how outlandish they seemed. Maybe then they could get added help for their problem.
After more cops were sent in to watch over Obito and Gaara, Sakura and Kakashi were led to the interrogation room with Aizawa and Tsukauchi. They sat down across from them and were plenty aware of the cameras secretly placed in the room. Kakashi made sure to put a genjutsu on them since they didn't want any word of this to spread.
Before either of them could begin, Kakashi was the first to ask, "Tsukauchi-san, you said your Quirk acted a lie detector?"
Tsukauchi nodded. "Yes. I find it very useful for interrogations."
"Do you mind if I test it out first?" He asked.
Both hero and detective blinked. It was a very... odd question, but they chalked it up as a guardian trying to protect their charge.
"Of course," he allowed.
Kakashi smiled wrly under his mask. "Hmmm, alright. Now where to start..." He placed a finger under his chin before his eyes lit up. "Ah, I got it! Okay, how about this: I was originally a forty year old man but was regressed to age thirty one a month ago."
Silence. Then Aizawa turned to Tsukauchi expectantly, waiting for him to call 'bullshit' but was surprised to see the astonished look on his face.
"He's... telling the truth." He uttered.
Sakura seemed to sink with relief while Kakashi looked completely satisfied.
Aizawa narrowed his eyes at the man across him. "What the hell are you playing at?"
"Detective-san, Hero-san, this may seem outrageous, but we're from another world." Kakashi stated.
Aizawa nearly gaped at him. This was supposed to be an interrogation about whether or not Sakura was in league with the villains who attacked the USJโhow the hell did it turn into this?
"He's telling the truth, Aizawa," Tsukauchi muttered, as if sensing his emotions.
"Please believe us, Aizawa-sensei," Sakura finally spoke. "We really need your help. We don't know how to get back home."
"Time out," Aizawa ordered, feeling a headache coming in. "You expect me to believe this?"
"Aizawa," Tsukauchi said quietly. "I know it sounds completely crazy, but my Quirk has never failed me before. You know that." And fuck, he did. There was never a time where his lie detecting Quirk had failed him unless the suspects were being purposely vague, but these guys were being straight to the point.
He sighed heavily, pinching the bridge of his nose. Fuck it. He'd humor them then.
"Alright..." He breathed out. "Start at the beginning. How exactly did you guys... end up here...?"
"Kakashi-sensei and I were at my home," Sakura began and he almost rose his brow at how she addressed the infuriating man as 'sensei'. "After we had dinner, Kakashi sent my daughter up to bed andโ"
"โYour what?!" He nearly screamed.
"Oh sorry, I forgot to mention that I was de-aged too," she chuckled sheepishly. "I was originally twenty-six before I was dropped here and I have a six year old daughter named Sarada. Oh, and I'm married too."
"Not to Obito, if you were wondering." Kakashi hurriedly added. It was a good thing he did too, because Aizawa had immediately pictured a fifteen year old Sakura with... however old Obito was, together, and with a daughter. It almost made him want to throw up.
Aizawa needed a few seconds to take this in before he gave them the 'go ahead'.
Sakura continued on. "After my daughter fell asleep, Kakashi-sensei and I were talking in the living room when this blue wormhole appeared. We got sucked in immediately and when I woke up, I was naked inside some sort of laboratory. The people there thought Kakashi, Gaara, and I were aliens and they were planning on using us as some sort of prototype for the Nomus. They also mentioned that some 'Doctor' was going to bring a 'Nomu' to this place called UA. After some research, we figured out that UA was a school and since I was in the age-range, I was ordered to attend the school under the cover of a student in order to find the 'Doctor' and 'Nomu'."
Aizawa glanced at the detective, who nodded again. She was telling the truth. This explains why she was questioning Shigaraki about the Nomu, he thought.
"Alright... And the same thing happened to Obito?" He asked.
She nodded. "Yes. He arrived here sometime yesterday in a similar state as us. He ran into this group of people who offered him free clothes and dango in exchange for his services. He really didn't know that he was going to attack a school... He had no idea what UA even was."
He gave her an unimpressed stare. "That doesn't matter. You do realize he was still willing to harm people, right?"
She grimaced. "Er, yeah..."
He turned to Kakashi. "And you said he was dead before?"
The grey haired man nodded seriously. "Yes. He died about ten years ago. I don't know how those scientists managed to bring him back alive..."
"How sure are you that he died?" Tsukauchi asked.
He received a blank look. "He crumbled into dust. Even Sakura was there to witness it."
Well then.
"Can you explain to me your Quirksโor well, I guess they can't actually be called that, then..." Aizawa trailed off.
"You're right, we don't have Quirks. We're able to do the things we do through our chakra." Sakura answered.
"Ah," Tsukauchi made a sound of understanding as he gestured to the files on the table. "That's what you called your Quirk in your profile."
She nodded.
"What exactly can you do?" He asked curiously.
Kakashi and Sakura glanced at each other.
"Well..." Kakashi started carefully. "Chakra allows us to all kinds of things. It enhances our speed and strength, lets us create clones, illusions, and many other things."
Aizawa pursed his lips in displeasure. They were being vague on purpose, he knew that, but listening to their capabilities made his stomach churn in warning. Their powers sounded dangerously versatile, something that Quirks here didn't allow.
"I see," Tsukauchi said carefully, coming to the same conclusion as his partner. "But you're human though, right?"
A grin could be seen behind the mask. "Yes, we're human."
"Can you explain to us your world?" Aizawa asked.
He immediately regretted it.
โโโโโโข~โ๐ธโ~โขโโโโโ
Child soldiers! His mind screamed as he scanned all four faces of the shinobi. After getting the full story, they had invited the other two suspects into the room to question them and their story matched up with Sakura and Kakashi's.
These people came from an entirely different world with entirely different laws and values. It was completely cutthroat, where only the strong lived, and all he could think of was that explains everything. No fifteen year old girl would willingly slice off someone's handโwhether they were villains or not, it just wasn't normal. It explained why Obito was so nonchalant about attacking an establishment in exchange for something as simple as clothes and dango. Why Gaara was a hundred percent willing to kill Obitoโalong with that unfortunate villain from long ago. Why Kakashi had strolled into the police department three hours late, totally unbothered at the fact that his charge had just underwent what should've been a super traumatizing ordeal with villains.
Sakura had already graduated from school at age twelve, which was apparently the common age of student graduates when there wasn't a war (and if there was, then the age was immediately decreased to nine, fucking nine!). That was why she was doing so damn good at academics. At seventeen she was already fighting a goddamn war (do these people not have child protection laws in their world? Because that was the sort of idea he was getting).
And she had also admitted to suspecting Recovery Girl because they initially thought her as the Doctor. She coyly planned the whole 'falling down the stairs' issue in order to gain her attention, and then became her apprentice. She even stalked her. Followed her around after school, stepped into her home, the whole package. It was disturbing how far these people were willing to go. At least she had the decency to look guilty about it...
Kakashi was Sakura's 'genin' sensei and judging by the uncomfortable look he wore, he wasn't a very good one. He was also the leader of Konohagakure despite his lackadaisical demeanor. He was an elite jounin and ANBU shinobi before thatโwhich Aizawa translated to a 'highly professional killer'. He has fought in a previous war. It was clear he still had some issues from all the terrible shit he went through and while Aizawa sympathized with him, he still couldn't believe someone thought it was a good idea to make him a teacher for three twelve year olds.
Gaara was a Kazekage of his village and had been since he was fifteenโwhich was a punch to the gut because who in the hell allowed a fifteen year old kid to take such a burden? Nevertheless, he was also seventeen when he fought in the 'Fourth Shinobi World War' alongside of Sakura. He wouldn't be surprised if there were more kids their age or hell, even younger, fighting in that war. And now that the boy was sitting right in front of him, he could see that the 'Ai' mark on his forehead wasn't a tattoo at all. Instead, it looked like it had been carved onto his head... In addition to that, the reason for his animosity against Obito was because of... well, that was the next problem.
Obito... He was a whole other mess (and he wasn't talking about that hideous outfit he was wearing). He was the cause of the war and the reason why millions of people were dead. He tried to end the world by... turning the moon into an eyeball? What? Aizawa and Tsukauchi were lost at that point, but they sort of understood the gist of it... Maybe. But anyways, Obito was a seriously bad guy. Even if he did 'come to the light' at the end and died protecting the kids. He apologized for it and expressed his genuine guilt for everything he had done, and sure Tsukauchi had confirmed that he was telling the truth, but still.
This guy was fucking crazy. All of them were and Aizawa did not feel comfortable letting them roam around freely.
But... they were also terribly human.
"You can help us, can't you? Please? Those scientists that did this to us are still out there and we don't know how to find them. Please. I have a daughter at home..." Sakura begged, sounding desperate.
"I have a child waiting for me as well," Gaara spoke up and all eyes turned to him. "My son, Shinki, witnessed me being taken... He must be worried sick... My siblings are all he has now..."
Aizawa didn't know if they were doing this to guilt-trip them, but dammit, it was working. Even if it was weird that two fifteen year old kids had kids of their own.
He finally released a heavy sigh. "We'll do our best to get you back home." He said, and he could see the relief that broke out into all of their faces. "First we'll check out that laboratory they took you to, maybe they left some clues. In the meanwhile, we'll do some research on those with dimension-hopping Quirks, maybe they can find a way to your world."
"We already tried that," Kakashi said. "There's no one here with a dimension-hopping Quirk."
Aizawa narrowed his eyes. "And how do you know that?"
"We kind of broke into the City Hall in order to look through the Quirk registrations..." Sakura explained sheepishly.
"Goddammit, Uchiha..." He muttered under his breath. Of course they were able to break into a high-security building. Goddamn ninjas.
"Alright, how about this," Tsukauchi offered. "We double-check anyways, start an investigation on that lab, and do some further research. It's not much, but it's something. We have more resources anyways, that's why you told us all this right?"
They all nodded. They were getting nowhere by themselves, so they were hoping that people of higher authority would be able to help them out.
"Good," he nodded in satisfaction. "In the meanwhile, you guys act normal. Your situation's very unique. We can't have this sort of information spreading around... Which reminds me, I'd have to delete footage of this..."
"No need," Kakashi chirped. "I cast a genjutsu over the cameras."
"Genjutsu...?" He said weakly.
"Illusion."
Aizawa groaned. Of-fucking-course.
"Oh. Well, that was smart. Thank you."
"I have something to add," Aizawa spoke up. "Since you all need to play normal, Uchiha, you'll stay in UA. Your grades are perfect and UA's the best school in the country, you'll raise a lot of questions if you were to suddenly drop out. As for you," he narrowed his gaze at Obito. "I want you on an ankle monitor."
"A what?" He asked. Seriously? They didn't have ankle monitors in their world? Then what do they do with criminals under house arrest? Have them on constant watch by guards? Actually, that wouldn't surprise him.
"An ankle monitor. It's an electronic device we put around your ankle. It must be worn at all times and it will allow us to track you. Should you step one foot out of your property, we will be alerted and we will have to put you behind bars." Not like that would do much, but this was all just for precautionary measures.
"Uh, sure? Wait, what about when I need to shower?"
He inwardly rolled his eyes. "They're waterproof."
"Ohhhh. Okay."
"Good." And that was the end of that. After Obito released the Nomu from his... other dimension, the four of them were driven back home by Aizawa, who started to grow more and more confused the closer they drew to their destination.
How the hell are they living in Hanabatake? He wondered as the pearly gates opened, allowing them entryway into the high-end community. This neighborhood was renowned throughout Japan, famous for it's beautiful traditional-styled homes. In other words, a bunch of old-fashioned elitists lived here and he had no idea how a group of people from another world managed to accumulate enough money to live here of all places.
Unless they didn't do it legally, he mentally groaned. The house he was looking for was the only one styled in a modernist architecture. He found it weird that a bunch of old-fashioned ninjas lived there, but oh well. He wasn't gonna bother questioning it.
They exited the car and he immediately slapped on the ankle monitor around Obito's ankle.
"Alright, it should be working now. Remember not to leave the property or else we'll be after you." He warned. "Any more questions?"
"I have a question," Obito raised his hand. He turned to Sakura, "Why is everyone calling you Uchiha?"
Sakura blushed slightly. "Oh um... I sort of married Sasuke."
His eyes popped out. "You married that little psycho?! And had a kid with him?!"
Aizawa spotted the way Kakashi and Gaara discreetly nodded to his proclamations, as if they also disapproved of the marriage. Good god, he thought. If Obitoโthe man who started a world war and tried to turn the moon into an eyeballโthought this Sasuke guy was a psycho, then he must be on a whole other level of unhinged.
He was beginning to question Sakura's taste in men.
"There's nothing wrong with Sasuke-kun!" She cried out defensively.
"He tried to kill you and everyone you loved," Obito said blankly.
"He also abandoned you and Sarada-chan for six years," Kakashi chimed.
"Everything is wrong with him. I hate him." Gaara added in a deadpan.
Aizawa wanted to take a goddamn nap right now. He also wanted to shove these guys into therapy.
โ author's note โ
The picture above is the perfect representation of Aizawa's mood throughout this whole chapter.
Before you get angry with me, yes I am VERY aware that ninjas are extremely paranoid and secretive and it's unlikely that they would just spill the beans about them coming from a whole different world. BUT! Tsukauchi was one of the people interrogating them and once they learned about his lie detecting Quirk, they realized that no matter how crazy their story sounds, Aizawa and Tsukauchi will know they're telling the truth because of Tsukauchi's quirk. That's why they took the risk. That and they were also a bit desperate.
