walking through the hallway with a stack of paper in hand on a saturday, this is how (y/n)'s weekend started. she goes to school on some saturdays to revise both hers and her clubmates' drafts.
she's seen a number of students have their supplementary exams. some were there one point short the passing grade while most were a whole lot of points away. if you ask her which one's more depressing, it'd have to be the one point short.
one single point would wake you up early on a saturday morning to go to school and retake the exams.
just like in volleyball. one point is enough to decide who will go home mourning and those who will be celebrating.
with her shoes clicking and echoing through the halls, she finally arrives at her destination - the newspaper club's clubroom. the room was vast. bigger than any normal classroom but just right for keeping multiple kinds of papers, writing pens, chairs, desks to serve as a working station, lockers for cleaning supplies and extra clothes if ever they spend the night there.
walking in, she was greeted by a boy two years older than her, and a lady in her late 20's.
"looks like you made it in time" the boy greeted the (h/c)-ette with a smile on his face which the said girl returned.
"good morning, takahashi-san" she looks away to face the lady in the room with them. "to you too, sasaki-sensei"
"the same goes to you, (l/n)-chan" the older girl greets the younger one.
takahashi akihiko. a third-year in class 5, editor-in-chief (eic) of the newspaper club. has white hair and bright red eyes. despite being in an advanced class, he makes sure to attend to his duties as the newspaper club's eic. extremely responsible and approachable. take note that this is only a portion of why almost everyone adores him. overall, he's a good guy.
meanwhile, the lady with them in the club room is sasaki amaki. a brunette in her late 20's and is also the newspaper club's adviser. her hazel eyes could be seen behind her red glasses' frame. she's close to her students especially to the members of the newspaper club. she and takahashi both learned sign language to be able to communicate better with (y/n).
"it's a good thing you're not late unlike a certain someone" takahashi tells (y/n) to which the girl laughed.
"she texted me a while ago. said she has something to do before going here" their adviser informs the two.
the (e/c)-eyed girl sets the papers she was holding a while ago down on her desk, getting a red pen from one of the pen holders when the door opened revealing a panting second year.
"you're late, ishii" takahashi scolds the late one.
"i know, i know" the girl pauses to put her bag down on a chair and catches her breath. "but i did inform sensei about me being late"
ishii keiko. a second-year class 3. she has goldish eyes and long, green hair which she normally strains down with a headband. despite her always being late in everything, she is the club's managing editor who helps the eic decide the content of the issue. in other words, the eic's right-hand man.
"good morning, (y/n)-chan!" ishii signs to the other female with a bright smile on her face before giving her a hug.
the (h/c)-ette pats her back gently with a smile before pulling away "good morning to you too, keiko-chan"
even with ishii and (y/n) being a year apart, they still managed to become friends with each other considering that ishii is the first person (y/n) talked to in the club.
"ah, (y/n)" the eic signs to the (s/c)-skinned girl, getting her attention. "you're assigned to the boy's vbc, right?"
the question made the girl nod her head as a yes. "why'd you ask?"
"hmm, i think it's going to be fun covering them. their lineup this year's interesting, y'know?" the white-haired boy tells her, spinning his pen between two of his fingers.
the deaf girl hums in return while walking to the windows, taking a good look at the scenery outside the school gates but her attention was quickly taken when the brunette lady with them started to sign. "i heard takeda-sensei saying something about away games at tokyo? i think that's today"
"tokyo, huh? i wanna go there again!" the green head signs excitedly, reminiscing the memories she has in tokyo.
(y/n) giggles at the older girl's childishness before confirming what their adviser just said. "i talked to a member of the vbc and said they are indeed going to tokyo for practice matches"
"oh?" both takahashi and ishii said at the same time, raising their brows at the (h/c)-ette.
"what?"
"you talked to a boy?" the girl with golden orbs asked the (e/c)-eyed one.
"uhh.. yeah? what's wrong with that?"
"which one did you talk to? the sunshine? the simps? the responsible ones? hmm, the sensible first years? oh, is it perhaps the new setter?" ishii asks enthusiastically, slightly scaring the (h/c)-ette which made the only boy in the room laugh.
"first, how'd you know all of them?" (y/n) inquires.
"i watched a round of their games before" the greenette admitted. "gotta say, they're fine ass men"
sweat-dropping at her confession, the (h/l)-haired girl nonetheless continues. "second, it's the blueberry"
it was true. after their encounter a week ago at the store, (y/n) and kageyama have been messaging each other frequently. this gave them the chance to talk to each other more and close the gap between them. there were times when hinata would join in their conversation but would be shooed away by the setter as soon as he joined.
"blueberry? so your relationship's already gone so far to call each other nicknames?" the brunette woman asks the (h/c)-ette, entering their conversation.
"what? yes? no? maybe.. i mean, i guess so?" the pressured girl frantically signs back.
"ladies, stop pressuring the poor girl" takahashi voices out before any more interrogation happens, making the sai girl sigh out in relief. "(y/n) might die and cleaning up after a dead body sucks"
"thanks, takahashi-san but how'd you know disposing of a dead body is tiring?"
ishii gasps, putting a hand over her mouth. "did you.."
the male only chuckled in response before shrugging his shoulders. the eldest girl laughs before turning back to her computer and starts typing again while the yellow-eyed girl still has her eyes wide, processing what the red-eyed boy's response meant.
not yet in the mood to start revising papers, the (s/c)-skinned girl looks out to the school gates again but this time, there was a vehicle parked with a blonde woman who's seemingly waiting for someone.
suddenly, a figure was standing beside her, his back facing the window. "this year's boy's vbc is incredible. even the players themselves are amazing" the white-haired fellow pauses as he looks at the girl watching him sign out his thoughts. "i'm sure one of these days, at least one of them will surprise you at the situation they've given you" he pats (y/n) on the shoulder as he continues with what he was doing moments ago.
looking back to the parked vehicle, (y/n) then saw two familiar people standing in front of it. one being a tangerine and the other a blueberry but her (e/c) eyes remained focus on a certain one as he jumps in the car, driving away from school as a smile tugs on her lips.
i'm sure he will.
