Kourin was never the type to bother with makeup, not like most girls her age, which is why whenever she stayed up late, the dark bags under her eyes could be clearly seen. And in this instance, she'd slept at four am because of her addiction to video games.

Her mind was filled with thoughts of an endless sleep, and thus the teacher's words fell deaf on her ears, but, she did have an idea of what he was talking about. Kourin placed her head on the palm of her hand as her multi coloured eyes scanned the room, the people in her class were all so, unmemorable. Except her two best friends, of course. When the class erupted in cheers at the mention of the hero course, a soft groan escaped her lips and she buried her face into the sleeve of her gakuran.

"Sensei!" Bakugo called out. "Don't lump us all in the same group. I'm not going to be stuck at the bottom with the rest of these rejects!" His gaze tore away from the roof and he looked straight ahead, his comment gaining some clamours from his classmates. "You all should shut up like the extras you are!"

"Oh, if I remember correctly, you want to go to U.A. High, right, Bakugo?" His statement caused the classroom to erupt in whispers.

"That's exactly why you guys are just extras!" Bakugo announced, jumping up on his table. "I aced the mock test! I'm the only one at this school who could possibly get into U.A." He pointed to himself as a cocky smirk appeared on his lips. "I'll definitely surpass All Might and become the top hero! My name'll be inscribe on the list of top earners!"

"Oh yeah, Yagami and Midoriya wanted to go to U.A, too, right?" Upon revealing that information to the cocky male, the quirkless boy flinched. Despite her name being mentioned, no one paid mind to the girl who's face was buried into her sleeve, instead, their attention turned to the green haired boy, before they burst out laughing.

In an instant, Bakugo turned to him and shoved his exploding fist into his desk causing Midoriya to fall back and sound of him landing on the floor harshly caused Kourin to stir. "Oi, Deku! You're below the rejects! You're quirkless! How can you even stand in the same ring as me?" His crimson eyes landed in the direction of the brunette, he didn't mind the fact that they got into the same school. To him, it was perfect. It would've been the perfect love story. He would be the number one hero, whilst she was his number two.

"No, wait, Kacchan!" Midoriya uttered out, backing up into the wall. "It's not like I'm trying to compete with you or anything! Believe me," he paused for a quick moment and his eyes made contact with the floor. "It's just that it's been my goal ever since I was little. And well.." His eyes darted around before they looked up. "I won't know unless I try."

"Whaddaya mean, unless you try?!" Bakugo asked as his has hands began smoking. "Are you taking the test for fun?! What the hell can you do?! You're quirkle—"

Kourin threw her book at his head causing the boy to stop shouting and turn to face her, and the expression on her face, her stoic expression, pissed him off even more. "Damare, peabrain. Too loud."

Kourin had only popped out to go to the toilet before she headed home with the green haired boy, but, by the time she'd gotten back, Bakugo and his goonies surrounded her dear friend and she could see smoke rising from Midoriya's shoulder. "Tch, hands off, meat head," she scoffed and cracked her knuckles. "We both know I could take you."

He did know, but it didn't scare him. His hands made their way to his pockets and he walked away from the quirkless boy, brushing past the brunette. "Don't interfere, shitty weird eyes."

Despite the frightening aura she gave out, one of his 'friends' had worked up the courage to open his mouth. "C'mon you should at least say som—" And in a blink of an eye, he was pinned up against the chalkboard, looking down into Kourin's heterochromatic eyes. Her expression remained stoic, but in her eyes burned a fierce fire.

"Shut the fuck up, extra." Kourin said coldly, throwing the short haired boy at the door. Her gaze turned to the long haired boy in shock and when he noticed her eyes on him, he held his hands up in defence and scurried out of the room.

Bakugo glanced at the brunette then back at the saddened boy, "if you wanna be a hero that badly, there's a quick way to do it. Believe that you'll be born with a quirk in your next life and take a last chance, dive off the ro—"

With a flick of her finger, she cased the ash blond boy to choke on his words. "I said, damare, meathead," she growled out, her lips curving up into a murderous smile as she shoved her palm at them, forcing the wind to thrust them out of the room. She was friends with him, but she hated it when he was like this. Turning back to her best friend, a small gentle smile graced her features. "Let's go look for your notebook, Izu."

"Kouccha—"

Grabbing his hand, she jumped out of the window which caused the boy to squeal and wrap his arms around her. Kourin couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle at his reaction. "You can open your eyes now, Izu."

"Koucchan," he mumbled shyly, his cheeks flushing a light shade of red. "I told you not to do that.." And looking into her heterochromatic eyes, he noticed they held a hint of amusement which prompted him to jump out of her arms.

"I don't like stairs," the brunette shrugged and stuck her tongue out at him, "they're tiring." She looked down at his book, which was being nibbled on by the fish in the pond. She grabbed his book from the water, making sure that it was dry before she gave it back to him. "Tch, stupid meathead.. Izu, don't let Bakago get to you, okay?"

He held the book to his chest, "are you going home?"

At the mention of her home, the amused glint in her eye disappeared and was replaced with a dull, cold look. "I— uh, haven't been there in a few days. I'm crashing at the Watanabe's, plus, Adan-San has been training me, getting ready for U.A. High, y'know." Her heterochromatic eyes landed on the the fishes swimming in the pond and she let out a heavy sigh, "but if I don't go home tonight, then, I'll get a bigger beating."

Midoriya was happy for her, ecstatic even, but he was jealous. Jealous of her ability and her prowess, but he knew that she deserved a spot more than anyone else, especially with her circumstance. "I'm happy you got recommended, Koucchan," he smiled brightly at her. The longer he looked at her, the more he though about the fact that he'd been observing her and Bakugo for as long as he'd known them. He had the hot tempered male analysed but he wasn't even close to figuring out his own best friend.

Noticing he look in his eyes, Kourin pressed her lips to the crown of his head, "Izu, c'mon, I know you better than that. I hope you feel better, because you're supposed to be the happier one. I want you to be happy. Call me tonight, after my training, okay?" Placing a hand on his head, her fingers ran through his green locks. "Chin up. I believe in you."

Her words of reassurance meant a lot and it had him tearing up, "Koucchan!" He engulfed her in a hug, "daisuki." He always felt better when she was in his arms. She was like a teddy bear.

"Daisuki," she patted his back. "If I'm late, the old man will kick my ass, so later tonight, okay?" Kourin pried him off her and shot him a smile before running off.

Adan tapped his foot impatiently, watching as the brunette ran into the dojo, throwing her bag to the side. "Aren't you cutting it a bit close, Kou?"

"I couldn't help it, there was a takoyaki sale," the brunette admitted and when she opened her mouth to tell him that she used her quirk to get there, a shiver ran up her spine and her heterochromatic hues glanced back at the door, her thoughts flashing back to her green haired friend.

"Kou, focus!" Adan's voice snapped her out of her thoughts, a concerned look appearing on his features, "what's on your mind, kiddo?"

"My best frien—"

"Which one are we talking about?" Adan cut her off, his lips curving up into a teasing smile, "are we talking about the hot head or the green bean? One of them finally man up and ask you out?"

Kourin glared at the older man, "Adan-San! Izu doesn't like me like that and Katsuki is too focused on being the number one hero, I just don't see it, okay? Oh, and green bean?"

"It's my nickname for him," he shrugged, a smile gracing his aged features. "Boy's kind of adorable, like a green bean. Much more cuter than that damn hot head, damn cocky little boy.." He grumbled out, his brows furrowing at the thought of the ash blond dating his daughter.

"We have our own opinions," she rolled her eyes. "Izu is much cuter and adorable, but Katsuki is more mature and handsome, then again Izu can be handsome if he wants to.. Why are we even talking about this?"

"Let's stop talking then. Let's fight, no quirks." Adan's lips curved up into a sly grin as he threw her fighting uniform at her. "Come at me, Kou."

Easily catching the uniform, she slipped off her gakuran and pants to show that she'd been wearing black shorts and a singlet underneath. Once she slipped on the fighting uniform, as red haired man called it, her heterochromatic eyes landed on the staff in his hands. "I thought you sai— right, you said no quirks, not no weapons." Once she made that conclusion, he charged at her. "Tch, damn old man." Kourin easily avoided him by jumping back beside the wall to grab a weapon of her own. "since we're using weapons, are pointy objects allowed?"

"Did I say they weren't?" He mused, swinging at the staff at her.

"Hun! Rinny! I was watching the news and—" Chisa's opened mouth closed at the sight of the pair and instead, folded her arms. "You two look worse than usual! Adan! I told you to go easy on her!" She scolded, her eyes glancing at the blood on the floor and walls. "Clean that up, Adan! C'mere baby, not you, I made you takoyaki."

Kourin shot up from the floor, up, ignoring the pain in her leg as she limped over to the orange haired woman. "Takoyaki?"

"Rinny!" She engulfed the brunette in her arms, "you're so adorable, what did I do to deserve you? You can eat your takoyaki while I clean you up." Pulling away, the woman gently sat her down on the chair, placing a bowl of takoyaki beside her before rushing into the bathroom to get the specially prepared med kit. It truly bothered the woman that her little girl treated pain like it was nothing, a soft sigh escaped her lips as she wrapped bandages around the girl's bleeding leg. "What I was saying earlier, Rinny, I saw your classmates on the news earlier, your best friends. They were being attacked by a villain."

She felt her heart drop, "Chi-San, what do you mean? Are they okay?"

"All Might saved them."

"All Might?!"

"I felt like you should know, they are your best friends," she said and when she noticed the look in her eyes, she couldn't help but smile. "Go on Rinny, check up on them." The second the woman had said that, Kourin was gone it made her chuckle and her reaction to such news brought her happiness. Because despite looking so stoic and emotionless, she knew that the brunette was nothing more than a teen that loved her friends and wanted to be loved in return.

Kourin knew that the ash blond boy could take care of himself, but she couldn't help but worry. And since he lived closer, she decided that visiting him first would be more logical. Using her quirk, it didn't take her long to get to his house. He... he better be fine! Or I'll kill him myself. When her hand landed on the gate, she heard his familiar voice behind her.

"Yagami?" He furrowed his brows, "why're you here?"

"Thank god," she breathed out and turned to face him, engulfing her best friend in a hug. She loved hugs, but, it was something she didn't usually do, not to him at least. Katsuki stiffened when she practically jumped into his arms, but, it didn't take long for him to relax as he hesitantly placed his hands on her waist which prompted the brunette to tighten her grip around him. "Are you okay? Chi-San told me you got attacked by a villain."

"Shitty weird eyes, what's wrong with you? You know I'm strong." He retorted, and the truth was he was scared when it was happening, but having her in his arms melted the feeling away. This hug, him holding her, it just felt right. Unknowingly, she'd breathed on his neck, causing the hairs on his neck to rise and his grip on her waist to tighten. You really don't know what you do to me, do you, nerd?

"I just wanted to make sure you were fine," she mumbled into his shoulder. "And now that I know you're fine, I have to go and check on Iz—"

A low growl of annoyance escaped from his lips, "Deku.." His grip tightened around her for a moment before his arms dropped to his side and when she let him go, he felt cold again.

"Don't tell me you're jealo—"

"Shut up, shitty weird eyes," he grumbled out.

Shaking her head at him, she placed a hand on his cheek and gave it a light pinch. "It wouldn't kill you to smile, y'know. I'll see you at school, meathead. And.." Trailing off, she looked into his crimson eyes her lips curving up into a small smile, "I'm glad you're okay."

The way she touched him, it was like it was natural for her. But for him, it wasn't. Her touches, no matter how brief they were, they made his heart beat erratically and it made him go crazy. Damn nerd. As he watched his 'friend' disappear into the corner, a loud sigh escaped his lips and he walked inside, paying no heed to his screaming mother.

Kourin never did find her other best friend and when she'd called him, there was no answer. She knew that if something was wrong, he would call or text her, but she still couldn't help but feel worried. She made her way back to the bakery, feeling a little defeated, where Chisa and Adan were waiting on her arrival. "Katsuki's fine, but I couldn't find Izuku and he hasn't answered my texts or call."

"Maybe his phone just died, dear." Chisa reassured her, rubbing her shoulders, "I wouldn't worry about it too much."

Realising the time, Adan clenched his jaw and he handed her the spare key to their house, which was just beside the dojo. He knew she had to go home. "Kou, you know you're always welcome here, right?"

She couldn't help but chuckle at his words and she shoved the spare key into her pocket. "Yes, you've been saying that for so many years. I better go. I'll see you both soon." Kourin tackled the pair into a hug and waved them off before she exited the bakery.

Kourin hated the way the her keys jangled when she tried to unlock the door, she hated the key they'd given her. It was shit, and it was like they gave that key to her on purpose, they probably did, who was she kidding?

A soft groan escaped her lips and she pulled the key out, when she went to try and unlock the door again it swung open, to reveal Ami's eyes, which actually held emotion, but it wasn't a good emotion. It was a mixture of disgust and anger. "Excuse me," she uttered, as politely and as softly as she could, stepping around her. Kourin wasn't afraid of her. Ami never hit her.

"Trash." Ami spat and her hand collided with the brunette's cheek, causing the girl to stumble forwards onto the floor.

Guess she was wrong.

After all this time, why now?

"Ami! Are you oka—" Kinto ran out of the bathroom, worried that his wife had gotten hurt but when he hazel hues landed on the girl sprawled on the floor, the emotion in his eyes turned bitter. "Oh. It's the runt. Finally home, huh? Little shit." Scowling, his foot made contact with her ribs, causing the girl to moan in pain, "what the fuck did I say about making noise, you little shit?!" He yelled at her before delivering a kick to her stomach. "Ami, go get my knife."

"Yes, dear." And like an obedient wife, she walked to the kitchen and grabbed the knife he used to cut her with.

A sadistic smirk appeared on his lips, "I know you've been training, you wanna know how I know? There've been days where I went, I didn't give her that cut, or that bruise," he mused and bent down, ripping off the bandages Chisa had applied on her leg. "So now, I have an even better alias. I would say thank you, but you don't deserve it." Kinto practically snatched the knife from his wife and ran the blade over the wound she received whilst she was training. And despite the pain she was in, she kept quiet knowing if she even made a noise he'd get more agitated. "Stand up, runt."

Kourin gritted her teeth and glanced down at her bleeding leg, when she didn't get up fast enough, he'd grabbed her by the collar and pulled her up. "I'm sorry."

"You better fucking be, bitch," glaring at her, he tapped the knife on her bruised face, "you know what? Your stupid shitty face annoys me." And in truth, it really did. She took after her parents so much, people he aspired to be, heroes he was jealous of. "Dumb red and yellow eyes.." He growled out and in a fit of jealous rage, slashed her left eye with the blade causing her to recoil and fall back onto the floor. "There, that suits you much better, hero."

"I want a turn." Ami spoke up, glancing down at the girl wincing in pain as she held her bleeding eye.

Shit, fuck, shit, fuck! Kourin made sure her eyes was undamaged, she wasn't sure if they knew about her accelerated regeneration, which is why she was careful in healing just her eye, but the wound on her eye, it would scar and it'd be there forever. And  when the brunette tried to crawl away, she felt his foot on her back.

"Stay, bitch. My wife wants a turn." Kinto ordered and looked to his partner, caressing her cheek. "I'm so proud of you, baby. I love you," he smirked and grabbed the the girls hair, using it to pull her up. "Get your fucking hand off your fucking face."

Whimpering, she did as she was told and looked up at her adoptive parents, her eyes welling up with tears. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" She sobbed, but the heterochromatic eyed girl didn't even know why she said it, she just felt like she had to. But, she didn't need to, she'd done nothing wrong. And it stung more when her tears touched her wound, which made her cry even more.

Kinto snarled and tightened his grip on her hair., "shut the fuck up, runt! Your crying face is the worst, so stop fucking crying!" A satisfied expression appeared on his face, as his wife drew an x on the side of her neck. "Fuck, you have no idea how happy I am baby."

Ami wanted nothing more than her husband's approval and this was it, once she plunged the knife into the brunette's abdomen, she took her husbands hand into hers. "Let's go."

"You'll never have a love like this, punching bag." He said and slammed her head down onto the table before carrying his wife into their room.

She laid there, on the floor with a bleeding leg, a bleeding head and a bleeding stomach, whilst a knife was stuck in her abdomen. At least it couldn't get worse, right?

Her heterochromatic hues landed on the white ceiling and tears began flowing out of her eyes. She wasn't a bad person, she wasn't the reason her parents died. But deep, deep, deep down, she wanted to punish herself. That's why she stayed with her adoptive parents, but she wanted nothing more than to run away and live with people who actually cared about her. Only Chisa, Adan and Izuku knew about what was happening to her and they were all beyond mad, which is why she didn't want to tell Katsuki, because she had a vague idea of what he would do. Even though he was hostile and hot tempered, he did care about her.

Kourin pulled out the blood stained knife out of her abdomen and threw it on the floor, it took her a moment before she propped herself up using the table. Once she was upright, she limped to her room which was practically empty, besides the bed in the corner of the room, a few books on the dusty bookshelves and a med kit which she often used. She started with a shower, to clean her wounds and to prevent infection. After that, she wrapped bandages around her leg and abdomen, deciding to let them heal naturally whilst she healed the scar around her eye.

And try as she might, she could never fall asleep in that house anymore. All the things they'd done to her, if she fell asleep, she'd be as dumb as they thought she was. All of the things she considered important was at an actual household, with her family. All her letters went to the Watanabe's place, and she was thankful for that. If Kinto had found out she'd gotten into U.A. High and he didn't, who knows what he would've done.

As quietly as she could, she stood up and made her way out of the hell hole people called her home. Kourin felt the cool breeze on her exposed, scarred arms and she resulted in walking around the the neighbourhood until morning came, she didn't feel safe with them. She would never feel safe with them.
