Joe
I looked down at the three positive pregnancy tests that Chloe handed me and I was still in shock that I had a second chance at being a father. This felt like the perfect time for us to finally have a family together, and this is all I've ever wanted in life.
"I'm still in awe that we're finally having a second chance with starting our family, Chloe."
"Me either, Joe." She smiles.
Suddenly, her smile started to slightly fade as she had a look of freight on her face. Concerned, I pulled her close in my embrace on the living room couch. I could feel her heart beginning to beat out of her chest and she was starting to have a small panic attack.
"Are you alright, babe?"
"Yeah."
"Chloe." I said sternly.
I looked into her eyes as they looked like they were full of remorse and pain.
"I know we're happy about the baby." She sighs, "But there's one thing that I'm terrified of."
It suddenly clicked with me that she was fearing another miscarriage when it came to her second pregnancy. I could tell that she was on the verge of tears as she was afraid of her trauma making its way back around.
"Now baby, I know what you're thinking and please don't worry about that."
Her eyebrows began to crease in worry and her eyes were beginning to well-up as she kept thinking of the past when it came to her miscarriage.
"I understand, Joe. It's just because we were once happy when it came to our first child and not even a few months in before we could find out the gender, I miscarried and then our world began to turn upside down." She sniffled, "You know?"
I looked at her with a small nod and brought her hands in mine.
"This time, we don't have them lurking around. No hitman, not the two people from our past; it's just you and me now, babe."
I took my hand and placed it underneath her chin to slowly lifting it up and having her eyes look into mine.
"I mean it. I believe this was meant to happen between us and there's no way we're gonna lose our baby."
"Are you sure? I don't want to be happy about us having a baby and then I start to miscarry again." She said, looking down at my tattooed arm.
"Look at me, baby." My voice deepened, "We're gonna be okay, alright?"
She took a moment of silence and stared into my eyes while the tears started to fall from her face, "I trust you."
I slowly leaned towards her and softly pressed my lips against her forehead in attempt to reassure her that everything was going to be okay. The trauma of us losing our first unborn child was enough to also bring a tear to my eye, but I wanted nothing more but to make Chloe the happiest woman in the world.
Back in Bora Bora, we had the time of our lives during our honeymoon and I remembered the one thing that was said between the both of us during the first week of our vacation together.
While we were in Bora Bora for those two long weeks, Chloe and I loved spending time with one another and the nights always ended up with passionate lovemaking before we fell asleep in each other's embrace. Before we closed our eyes and fell asleep, I brought Chloe closer into my arms as her head was brushed up underneath my chin.
"Hey babe?"
"Yeah, Joe?"
"Wanna know something crazy?"
"What's that?"
A smile began to spread across my face, "Imagine if we ended up having another baby in the future together. How would you feel about that?"
"How would I feel about that? I'd be excited because I'd have you at my side through it all."
"I'll always be there for you when the time comes, babe." I say, pressing my lips against the top of her head with my fingers slowly wrapping around her hair, "Even if it happened in the future, or years from now, I'd do my best to be the best father ever."
"I believe it."
"And you'd make a fantastic mother."
"You think so?"
"I do. I know someday that we will have our happy ending together. Us getting married was the first step of having the life we both always dreamt of."
"You know, Joe? You're right, and I'm more than grateful to have you in my life."
"I'm even more grateful for you, Chloe."
She stood up and walked towards the bathroom, causing me to sit up from the bed with a raised eyebrow, "Where are you going?"
"To brush my teeth, Joseph." She teased.
I started to laugh when she called me Joseph instead of Joe, "And you didn't think to invite me? I gotta brush mine too, baby."
I stood up from the bed and playfully teased her while she tried to squeeze the last bit of toothpaste onto the toothbrush.
Before I started to brush my teeth, I stood from a small distance and admired her from afar as she continued to brush her teeth. Everything she did was adorable in my eyes, and I knew from there that this was everything I could've truly wanted in life. Her, and a baby.
After we finished our nightly routine, we laid back on the bed and she decided to jump into my arms, causing me to crash onto the bed.
"Damn, have you been learning from Adam when it comes to those spears?"
"What? Me? No!" She teased.
"Sure, because you've never asked me how to spear someone." I smirked.
"That's only because I wanted to surprise you out of nowhere."
"Well, you definitely surprised me." I chuckled.
And after that, we both fell asleep in each other's embrace for the rest of the night.
Chloe broke me out of my trance and I snapped out of it, looking down at her.
"I'm sorry babe, I was thinking about a memory between us from Bora Bora."
"It's okay, and which memory?"
"When I mentioned us having another baby in the future, and then before we fell asleep, you surprisingly decided to spear me on the bed."
A small smile started to form on her face and she pressed her lips against mine.
"That was a great memory. And there's more to come in the future; especially when our baby is finally here."
"I can't wait for nine months to hurry up. I'm so excited to meet them already."
"Me too, Joe."
"Anyways Chloe, how are you feeling?"
"I'm starting to feel a lot better. I still tend to overthink things when it comes to that traumatic event that we both went through."
"I understand baby." I replied, "You're safe with me, Chloe, and so is our child."
I warmly smiled as I gently brought my hand towards her stomach.
"What do you think we'll have?"
"I want to have a girl."
"And I want to have a son, but either one will be perfect to me."
"Same here."
I turned my head and looked over at Chloe with a smile, "Imagine if you're pregnant with twins."
"Twins?"
"Yeah. I wouldn't mind having twins, but it's a possibility because having twins seems to run in my family's bloodline. Not sure why, but it does. My cousins, Jonathan and Josh, are twin brothers and their father's Solofa, but you might know him as Rikishi."
"I had no idea and I think I've heard of him before. Emma used to always talk about him and how he was funny for shoving his ass in Vince McMahon's face. She actually shown me a video of that at one time and I had no idea that he was even related to you!"
I laughed, "He's the funniest. I need to introduce you two to each other someday."
"I'd love that a lot, Joe."
After talking about my relative, we went to get some breakfast together and relax for the entire day. Unfortunately, I had to return to work soon and I wasn't prepared to leave Chloe behind; but thankfully, Emma lived in Toronto and her coming over and giving Chloe some company helped ease my worries.
More importantly, I was thrilled to be on the road to fatherhood with Chloe at my side. This was definitely a dream come true and I couldn't be anymore happier.
