Joe
I was starting to worry about Chloe after she told me about the police officer incident. As the thoughts were becoming overwhelming with the flashbacks of Joshua and Galina causing issues within our relationship, it concerned me. I was starting to to overthink the situation and I was afraid of something like this happening again, but with a different person that we didn't know about. Worried, I went to my phone's messages and texted Colby.
After exchanging texts for a minute, I called up Colby with a frustrated look on my face. When he answered, he seen my eyebrows beginning to furrow and I wasn't in the happiest of moods. I felt like somebody was trying to fuck with my wife and I wasn't having it.
"Hey."
"Joe. What's all going on?"
"Chloe told me that she had it under control, but apparently after she left work, some police officer pulled her over, looked at her license and the registration to her car and then said she was a fine ass woman."
"What? Are you serious?"
"Mhm." I said, as my lips began to twitch and my eyebrows remained furrowed in annoyance, "He better stay away from my wife."
"Hopefully he'll stay away from her."
"I don't like another man looking at my girl like that."
"I understand, man. Listen, I'm sure everything will be alright. Maybe it was just a small mishap. She told the cop about having you as her fiancΓ©, right?" Colby asked.
I nodded, "Yeah, and she said that he backed off and let her off the hook."
"Then there's your answer man. I'm sure he backed off because he has morals."
My voice began to deepen, "Maybe you're right. I'm just overthinking shit again."
"We all have our moments, man."
"Listen, I'm gonna get off for the night and get some rest. I need to get my mind off this shit."
"Alright, Joe. Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Colbs."
I hung up the call and then looked down at my feet while I sat on the edge of my bed with frustration written all over my face.
"I swear if someone tries to cause trouble to Chloe like Joshua did, I'll kill them too." I huffed.
As the next few minutes went by, I went to the bathroom and did my nightly routine before heading off to sleep. I've been worried about Chloe for awhile and it was starting to get more concerning as the worries started to grow more overnight.
"Fuck, I need to call her."
Chloe
While I was fast asleep in my bed, I heard my phone beginning to ring on the nightstand and it was Joe. He never calls me late at night and I assumed that something was wrong and didn't hesitate to answer.
"Hey babe, is everything okay?"
"Yeah." He says in a nonchalant voice, "I'm just worried about you."
"How come? I was asleep, babe."
"I'm sorry for waking you, but we need to talk."
"Sure, what's up?"
"I've been worried about you ever since you told me about that cop trying to flirt with you. I know you told him about me, but what if he's not some ordinary cop and he's some creep who's trying to fuck you?"
"Baby, I promise that he backed off. I'm sure he'll forget all about me."
He sighs, "I hope so. After what happened with Joshua and Galina, it worries me."
"I understand, Joe."
"And I didn't mean to wake you up babe. I'm just starting to overthink things and I'm coming back home later tomorrow."
"It's okay. And I can't wait for you to come back home, Joe."
"Me either. Goodnight, sweetheart."
After saying our goodbyes, I fell back asleep in the bed and attempted to ease my mind of the worries that were overcoming my head after hearing Joe's concerns. A few short hours passed and I was knocked out and I finally fell asleep for the night.
Many hours had passed and it was finally morning. Thankfully, it was my day off of work and then I suddenly heard faint knocking on my door while Zeus continued to bark up a storm.
"What is it, Zeus?"
He continued to bark.
Anxious, I started to open the door as it was none other than Joe. He was holding the most beautiful bouquet of roses and his hair looked to be slightly ruffled.
"Hey babe."
"Hey, Joe." I say, "I'm surprised you didn't tell me you were coming back home so early."
"I just wanted to surprise you and to make sure that you were okay."
"I'm okay, babe."
Joe pulled me into his embrace as he pressed his lips against mine.
"I know." He sighs, "You're my girl and I'm not gonna have a repeat of that certain situation ever again. You didn't deserve to go through any of that and I'll be damned if it happens again."
"I promise it wouldn't, Joe." I say, "I love you and I'll always tell you if something makes me uncomfortable. We also have to focus on our wedding coming up next month; and I'm excited to become Mrs. Anoa'i."
"I already love that."
"Me too."
Joe kicked off his shoes and walked into the living room and plopped down on the couch in exhaustion.
"Did you get some sleep last night, Joe?" I asked.
He shakes his head, "Barely. I was worried about you after that small ordeal and I was afraid that the cop was gonna cause issues."
Concerned, I sat down next to Joe on the couch and looked into his eyes as they were full of worry for me.
"Listen, you can get some sleep and I'll be cleaning up the house in the meantime."
"Alright baby." His voice deepens, "I love you so much."
"I love you too."
I leaned in and pressed my lips against his before he fell asleep on the couch. He looked like he hadn't slept all night and it was concerning.
Given the circumstances with what happened with our two ex-lovers, I understood his situation. He was worried about what could've happened while he was on the road and what could've happened at my job.
Joe was always protective over me and I loved this side of him. I glanced over at him as he was slumped over the couch and he immediately fell asleep after we shared a kiss. His long, jet black hair was ruffled and his beard was beginning to become more thicker. Joe looked so peaceful as he continued to sleep and it brought a smile to my face.
I was more than excited to marry him in a month from now. Suddenly, I received a call from Emma as she seemed excited; telling from her tone of voice.
"Hey girl! What's up?" I asked.
"I found the perfect dress for your wedding. I am the bridesmaid, right?"
I smiled, "Of course you are! Why wouldn't you be?"
"I don't know. Also, why are you talking so quietly?"
"Joe just came home from work and he's exhausted. He didn't get any sleep last night."
"I wonder why. Is he doing okay?"
I stepped out of the living room and made my way into the kitchen.
"Yeah, he's been worried about me ever since that cop said I was a fine ass woman. He worries about me so much, Emma."
"That's sweet that he cares so deeply for you, Chloe. You're already about to have an amazing husband in your life."
"I'm excited. Anyways, how are you and Fergal doing?"
"We are doing amazing! We cannot wait for you and Joe's wedding so much."
"I cannot wait either."
I heard movement from the living room and stepped in for a brief moment to seeing Zeus cuddled up with Joe.
"I'm about to become Mrs. Anoa'i in only a few weeks, Emma. I'm still shocked that I'm finally getting married, and it's to the man of my dreams."
"I'm so happy for you, girl. You truly deserve this beautiful moment and I get to witness this in person."
We talked for awhile until she had to get off the phone. When we wrapped things up, I walked over to a sleeping Joe and decided to take a nap in his arms in the meantime.
I sat down on the couch and slowly made my way towards Joe as his arms were sprawled out on the gigantic couch and felt him beginning to move his arms as he slightly groaned in his sleep.
However, his eyes barely began to open as he pulled me closer to him in his strong embrace. He allowed a small sigh to escape from his mouth as he whispered in my ear, "I can't wait to marry you."
And just like that, we passed out on the couch for awhile before waking back up from our slumber.
