05 | anything for the crown

You sit at the small dining table, the warm bowl of rice before you offering a moment of calm after the whirlwind of the day. The fragrant steam rises, the simple dish a comfort to you as you take slow, deliberate bites. You've never tasted rice quite like this, but the warmth and care that went into it is unmistakable. Inko's kindness, too, is evident in the way she smiles at you between words, welcoming you into her home like you've always belonged.

As you eat, your eyes wander over to Izuku, who's clearly in his element. He's animated, practically bouncing in his seat as he talks about his future, about his dreams of becoming a hero, and of course, about his idol—All Might. You listen, intrigued but distracted, your mind still processing the shift in your life.

The world you've been thrown into is so strange. It's familiar yet entirely new, and you can't help but wonder how it will all play out. But for now, you allow yourself a brief reprieve, absorbing the warmth of this moment.

Izuku's excitement fills the room, his voice picking up speed as he recounts his dreams, and you're almost lost in the energy of it. But something catches your attention—something you don't quite understand.

"What's UA?" you ask, interrupting his excited rant.

The room goes quiet for a moment. Izuku stops mid-sentence, blinking at you like you just asked something completely out of left field. Inko, who'd been quietly listening, looks at you with a warm smile, as though waiting for Izuku to answer.

Izuku's eyes widen a bit before his face lights up with a big, proud grin. "The best hero school in this country," he says with conviction, his voice practically buzzing with excitement. "It's where all the best heroes go to train, and I'm going there!"

His enthusiasm is contagious, and for a brief moment, you wonder if you could ever be part of a world like that. A world of heroes, of people who fight for what's right. A stark contrast to the dragon kingdom you once ruled, where power was taken, not earned.

"Sounds... impressive," you murmur, taking another bite of your rice. The idea of becoming a hero—someone who protects people—feels both foreign and alluring to you, but at the same time, it stirs something deep inside, something primal, something that could never be tamed.

Izuku looks at you, his eyes shining with determination. "Yeah! It's where you can learn everything you need to be a real hero. I want to be like All Might—someone who can protect others and inspire people to do good."

You pause, studying him for a moment. His conviction is unwavering, and you can sense the sincerity in his words. There's something about his desire to help people, to do right by them, that resonates with you, even if your path was once a very different one.

"I'm sure you'll make it," you say, your voice quiet but genuine, and it seems to catch him off guard. His cheeks flush slightly, but he beams at you.

"Thanks, Y/N!" he exclaims, as if you've given him some form of validation he didn't expect. "I'm gonna work as hard as I can. I know that's the only way I'll make it!"

Inko watches the two of you with a soft smile, her gaze moving between you and her son. She seems pleased by the exchange, her hospitality ever-present, but there's a hint of curiosity in her eyes too—perhaps wondering what kind of past someone like you might have had.

As the conversation continues, you find yourself swept into their world, one where hope and hard work seem to be the foundation of everything. It's not your world, not yet, but there's a strange comfort in it, as though you might be able to carve out a place for yourself here.

And even if you're not sure about the path ahead, there's something in Izuku's optimism that makes you think—maybe, just maybe, this second chance isn't just a gift. It's a chance to find something worth fighting for again.
