Muharaba is a short story about Alishba, a woman who is strong, sassy and knows her own mind.
Plagued by memories of what could have been, what should have been fill her mind every day, and a person she knows she should've been, and should've been with.
However, reality soon comes knocking for her when she has to fulfil her duty as a South Indiam Muslim - she is put into a forced marriage to a man she doesn't love and who is more than horrific.
Life takes a horrific turn for Alishba when reality and fantasy are two polar opposites and she can't seem to stop thinking about a life that could have been with Zayn.
When her husband does something unimaginable, and Alishba stumbles upon an unlikely and inspiring lecture, she realises she must do something. However, life comes knocking for Alishba again and she realises that one can have everything yet still miss something -- or someone.
However, Alishba also realises something else - she is better off on her own.
Muharaba is a short story that is both beautifully written and yet painstakingly heartbreaking. The author uses the voice of the unfortunate majority in her culture and puts it in a realistic setting to raise awareness. But the truth is, this isn't just a reality of the Muslim culture, or the Indian culture... this is women's culture. Behind the amazing, beautiful writing and truly heartbreakingly wonderful writing style is something women face every day and Thasli's story brings that to life.
This story is something that needs to be read, and needs to be taken to heart.

Muharaba is the story of Alishba , an indian muslim girl who came to a foreign land with lots of dreams and aspirations. She falls in love with Zayn, a pakistani unaware of what was waiting for her.
Muharaba is a story of the self discovery of a young girl who grew up in a conjusted society , witnessing gruesome things which were normalized .The journey of Alishbha from the faint little girl to a successful women is an inspiration for every women despite the age, race or religious difference. This is every women's story. It also focuses on many issues like domestic violence, misogyny and mental health that needs to be addressed in a broader light.Even thought the story deals with heavy subject, the narration is simple and smooth.I could feel the emotions of Alishba and that was only possible because of the beautiful narration.
To conclude i would like to say that, it is a bold attempt of the author to expose the atrocities of society to the world through a character like Alishba whom everyone can relate to.This is a must read.

Amazing story that portrayed realistic story. Women are expected to be submitted to their husband after their marriage or to their fathers before marriage. The story surely started with a different atmosphere and twisted in a different way. It was amazing to follow many women's life story in just three chapters. I loved it.

This was a beautiful story. Honestly, it took my breath. It was so frighteningly true. And the protagonist was just amazing. I loved how strong Alishba was despite all the bad things happening to her and she was brave enough to get a divorce and start a new life as an independent and successful woman. I have nothing to say to the grammar, it was perfect and your writing style is also astounding. I really loved this story.

A beautifully written short story about how a Muslim girl stands up for her rights. It is very emotional and wonderful. Amazing writing.

This book is more of a realistic fiction for me which is good because I don't get to encounter much books having this genre. It tells the story about struggles of women who live in a strict patriarchal family and a family that adheres very much to tradition. This book serves as an inspiration to teens and even young adults to step out of their comfort zone and make their own choices for their lives. Because only then they will be truly happy and free.

The author has an undeniable talent. Each chapter pulls you in. I look forward to reading much more. Bravo to this talented author.

Muharaba is a powerful story of Alishba. Not the usual happy ever after story that is based on societal norms where a woman should be married and have a family to be happy and complete.
The beginning of the story started with an amazing description of where Alishba and Zayn were spending time together. Relatable and realistic happenings from the physical description of the setting/place, the dialogues of the different characters, and the physical attributes of the main characters. All were realistically presented.
Like the story, existing and different cultural issues were presented. From the space, a woman is allowed to occupy in society vs. space/role a woman is brave enough to hold and occupy despite cultural barriers. Another is the issue of arranged marriage and the underlying complications within. Lastly, the readiness of the world for the kind of strong and empowered women like Alishba.
If there might have been some grammar errors I didn't notice much. I was so engrossed in how the story was presented, developed, and ended. I was even left hanging. I didn't realize that as I was reading it I already reached the end. I was hoping for a sequel, a possible second chance for Alisha & Zayn.
In the end, it made me remember one thing, of all kinds of love, it is very important that we first show love for ourselves.
Amazing story!

The author's note is witty, but amazing as hell, so creative! this story is so deserving the flow is just perfect, the incidents which takes place are neither too fast or slow. The description is awesome, cover is beautiful and the aesthetics in the starting are gorgeous! I loved the concept of the story, and the chapters and way of writing is just amazing. Although I'll say that this story is just too deserving, you should update more!

"Broken girls blossom into Warriors"
Alishba Hussain is a girl from a conservative Muslim family in South India. Even though she is brought up in a household with a patriarchal atmosphere, she blossoms into a strong and independent woman who does not give anyone a chance to surpress her.
We see her, five years after an incident which changed the path of her life. Her life has changed. SHE had changed. Then we see what happened to her in the time span. We see her being forced for a marriage. We see that her life has taken a nasty turn, as she faces all the torture and pain faced by millions of other women all around the world, thanks to the wonderful misogyny of the world.
Thasli, the author, has done a wonderful job. The story punches into everyones gut, forcing us to ask ourselves questions which we want to ask, but we don't. Questions which we throw deep inside our consciences. Questions that make us feel uncomfortable. Yet, questions, which MUST be asked.
MUHARABA is not a fairytale about dancing daisies and damsels in distress. It potrays the bitter truth, the world in its true form. Alishba's story is not native to just India. Irrespective of Religion, Nationality, age, caste, race, Uncountable women all around the world go through the same hurdles. And not all of them walk past this wall of fire like Alishba did. No, she doesn't start living for a child, as single women are often portrayed in various stories. Even when she gets a chance to redeem her lost love, Alishba makes up her mind. She decides that she is better off on her own. Her own life, where she is the queen, and not a pawn to please the misogynistic society.
This book is a MUST READ, irrespective of what genre you like.

MUHARABA is a book that i could never forget. From a good story, to the unmistakable truth of the lives of many girls and women; from alishba's heart screeching tears for what could have been, to her past that haunted her every night, this book spoke volumes. a tragedy that offered the importance of self love, and how alishba felt complete with herself, how she felt that she was better of alone, this book is a must read, irrespective of whoever the fuck you are.
love,
a.

As you know I am a huge no no person about sexism, and this book I’m not gonna lie I actually cried while reading some parts because it hurts to know that these kind of situations are still happening around the world, I thank you for writing this book exposing the acts of cruelty of society that’s happening in the world. Something I’m kinda hoping for is a sequel to MUHARABA, where it’s a aftermath on Alishba’s current life situation and how’s she’s doing.
