HER DULL TEAL EYES FOCUSED ON THE BUTTERFLY IN FRONT of her, it was beautiful. Her eyes remained on the flapping insect and so aloof to the world around her, she didn't even notice the red haired kid in front of her so within seconds, they'd made sudden impact. She fell to the ground with a thud. And though she'd fallen, she didn't cry but merely looked up at the person she'd bumped into, "oh, sorry."

Red was fascinated the minute he'd seen her, so fixated on the butterfly, even more so when they'd bumped into each other. Children their age, children that were four years old usually cried when they fell down. But she didn't. "Are you okay? You should really watch where you're going," he said, holding his hand out.

"Sorry uh," she took his hand to help him stand up, dusting herself off once she was upright. "I was chasing a pretty butterfly."

"I'm Red, what's your name?"

"Chiharu... oh, the butterfly's gone," a sad look donned her face.

She was different, everyone else made fun of his name, but not her. He placed a hand on her shoulder and grinned widely. "I'll help you find another one. Don't be sad. Let's go!" He grabbed her hand and began running towards a park where he saw tons of butterflies before.

"More butterflies?"

"More butterflies!"

"Okay."

He glanced back at her and the smile on her face absolutely melted his four year old heart. Red had found someone special and unique, he'd be dumb to let her go.

THAT DAY WAS SEVEN YEARS AGO. AS TIME PASSED BY, their friendship only deepened and they became more closer, more in tune with one another. Red grew deeply obsessed with the aloof, kind girl. Whilst she wasn't aware of what people said about her, he was aware and he protected her from everyone and everything. He had to, it was his job.

They went to the same school, but they weren't in the same class, which drove Red slightly insane. Though, what drove him mad was seeing his classmates boys and girls alike, kids he considered friends, push and bully her. He had to do something about them. He had to defend her.

"Stop being so out of it all the time!"

"Why can't you actually pay attention in class?"

"You think you're all that just 'cus guys like you?"

"You're actually kind of dumb."

He was a friendly boy and he was easy going, resulting in never ending friends and he was sociable, he liked making friends but he couldn't possibly make friends with scum like that, scum that bullied his precious butterfly. "Why don't you all piss off?" They turned around ready to retort something, but once they realised it was the red haired boy, they froze. Not to mention, the aura he radiated caused his classmates to inch away from him, the friendly, smiling boy they knew was frowning, was glaring at them. He balled up his fists and pushed the white haired girl behind him, "piss off."

"Really? You're taking dummy's side?"

"You're better than that Red."

"She's worth ten, no a hundred of you, assholes," he spat with so much hate, they flinched. "Let's go, Chi." Without another word, he marched out of the school compound with his best friend in tow.

"Red, I'm fine. I'm used to it." Chiharu tried to reassure the seething boy, squeezing his hand. "It was just words, they didn't really hu—"

He finally stopped walking and turned back to face her, anger clear in his green eyes. "They pushed you! That's not cool! It's not nice! I hate them! You're too trusting, Chi.. They could've hurt you," he rested his forehead on hers.

Her lips curved upwards into a smile, "hate is a strong word."

"Really? That's what you got out of that?" His anger dissipated at her words and a soft chuckle escaped his lips. "You go home, I'll stop by your house later. I'm gonna stop by seven eleven. Be safe," he waved at her, a smile gracing his features but once she was out of sight, the smile disappeared and in its place, a look of rage. Red made his way back to his house and grabbed his baseball bat, gripping it tightly in his hand. "You like bullying people, huh? Let's see how you like this."

Chiharu was a little surprised that the red haired boy never came by her house, even though he said he would. Red was the type of person who did what he said. Though, being who she was, she didn't really think too much about it. Snapping out of her thoughts, she looked to the front of the classroom where her teacher was. Her teacher smiled at the class sympathetically. "Unfortunately, Rin, Sui, Karin and Gan are all in the hospital, do you guys want to make some get well cards for them?"

Hospital?

ANOTHER EIGHT YEARS PASSED BY IN A BLINK OF AN EYE. Their bond was still as strong as ever, even if they were going to different universities. That alone wouldn't tear their friendship apart, the red haired boy wouldn't let it. Since it was the last day of high school, their whole class went out to celebrate.

Of course there was alcohol, it was a club. Honestly, Red didn't want to go out, knowing that his precious butterfly would be ogled. He just wanted to celebrate with her and he couldn't exactly kill everyone at the club... It'd be too much of a hassle covering everything up. Ten drinks later, and he was graced by the rare presence of a drunk Chiharu. She'd only ever got drunk once and she was so cute.

"Red," she whined and stumbled over to him, tripping on her own feet and falling into his chest. "Come dance with me!"

"You're drunk, princess."

"I'm no princess!"

"Well, you're my princess," he took a stray strand of hair and tucked it behind her ear. "Do you wanna head home?"

Chiharu looked up at him, their faces dangerously close, "I'll go home, after we dance!" A smile graced her natural features as she dragged him onto the dance floor. Lucky for them both, a slower song had come on. Her hands on his shoulders and his hands on her waist, they began swaying with the music.

Though, midway of the song, he'd felt her fall on his chest and looking closely, he'd realised that, she'd passed out, "silly princess." He carried her off of the dance floor and grabbed their things before he took her back to his house, which was surprisingly close by.

Red set her down on his bed, taking off her shoes and changing her into some more comfortable clothes, he was protective, sure, but, he wasn't too much of a pervert, he left her underwear on and slipped on one of his shirts on her. A light blush appeared on his cheeks at the sight. "How cute, princess..." Taking off his own clothes, he slipped on a pair of sweats before sliding into bed beside her. He cupped her chin so that she could face him, he leaned in and placed his lips onto hers briefly. "Sleep well."
