"HYDRA doesn't like leaks" Sitwell declares from next to me.
"Then why don't you try sticking a cork in it?" Sam retorts from the driver seat.
"Insight's launching in 16 hours. We're cutting it a little bit close here" Natasha states.
"I know. We'll use him to bypass the DNA scans and access the helicarriers directly" Steve explains.
"What? Are you crazy?" Sitwell shrieks "That is a terrible, terrible idea"
"I will smash those carriers with my bare hands if I have to" I warn the man.
There's a loud thud on the roof of the car and I curse, slipping onto the floor of the car. Just as well I do that because a hand smashes through the glass, passing where I was sitting to grab Sitwell and yank him out the car. I sit up just in time to see Sitwell get thrown in front of a moving truck and I turn to Natasha who is wide eyed in shock. All of a sudden, a bullet is fired through the ceiling and Natasha jumps over the console onto Steve's lap. Another shot is heard and I jump, launching myself onto Sam.
"Hit the brakes! Hit the brakes!" I scream as more shots are fired into the roof.
Steve shifts the car into reverse and a figure is sent soaring off of the roof. The man that is dressed fully in black flips forward and lands on one knee, using his metal hand to slow him down as he skids down the road. He comes to a stop and my jaw drops as he stands up, looking straight at us.
I try not to get my hopes up as he is wearing a mask that covers his face, but my heart still skips a beat in hope.
Natasha pulls out her gun but before she can use it, we are rammed into from a HYDRA van behind us. We are drove towards the soldier and Sam tries to swerve but the soldier jumps onto the roof once more. Sam slams on the brakes but the car behind keeps us moving forward at an alarming speed. A metal hand punches through the windshield and I jump in fright as he rips the steering wheel out of Sam's hand, throwing it away.
"Shit!" Sam screams.
Natasha fires multiple shots at the roof and I grab onto the dash board as the van behind rams into us again. The car swerves and runs up the stone wall due to there being no steering wheel to control the car now. I notice that the car is about to flip and I look at Steve. He nods at me and grabs my sister. I slam my foot into the driver side door and grab onto Sam who looks at me in disbelief.
"See you two on the other side" I smirk before grabbing Steve's shield and jumping from the car with Sam.
Steve jumps with Natasha, using the car door as a shield. The four of us all sliding down the motorway as the car behind us flips and lands belly up. The shield under Sam and I skids towards Steve and Natasha, causing Sam and I to be sent rolling along the concrete. We stop and I land on top of the man, looking down at him with a smile.
"Well, hello there" I breathe out and he snorts, pushing me off him.
We scramble to our feet and I watch in horror as the soldier shoots a grenade at Steve and Natasha. The blonde Super Soldier pushes my sister out the way and lifts his shield to save himself from the blow. The impact of the grenade exploding against his shield sends him flying off of the bridge.
I smack Sam's arm to get his attention and we run towards Natasha, hiding behind the upturned car as the soldier and a bunch of other HYDRA agents start shooting at us. They start getting closer so we split up, Natasha behind a minivan while Sam and I duck behind a silver car. I pull my gun out of the back of my jeans and start shooting at the agents holding the automatic rifles, Natasha doing the same.
The windows of the car are completely blown out, so Sam grabs my arm and runs to the next cover. I turn to my sister in time to see the soldier shoot a grenade at her cover, causing her to leap away and cross to the other side of the bridge. Their guns follow her as she runs, shooting at her until the soldier shoots another grenade at her and I lose sight of her in the explosion.
I try not to think the worst, but I can't help but let my mind wander.
I sigh in relief when I see the soldier get handed a gun and he heads to the edge, looking down.
if she's dead, he's not gonna shoot at her again
All of a sudden, he's shot and he stumbles back, ducking down behind the wall. He angrily rips off his goggles and jumps up, raining bullets down on my sister.
I use this distraction, running towards the edge and leaping off of the bridge. My body hits the ground and I roll forward, landing on one knee as I look up and shoot at the soldier. He turns his bullets to me, giving Natasha a chance to run and I jump behind a turned over bus. I watch my sister duck inside the bus to help Steve so I decide to lead at least some of them away.
I make sure the laces of my heeled boots are tightly secure before sprinting away from the bus as fast as I can.
The feeling of being followed sets in and I know it's working. I set my work phone up against the wheel of a car and play a recording of me speaking before hiding behind the opposite car to wait for whoever is following me.
The soldier appears and he slowly creeps towards the recording before rolling a grenade under the car. The car explodes and I jump onto the car I'm hiding behind, kicking the gun out of the soldiers hand before spinning around him. I secure my thighs around his shoulder before swiftly pulling out my garrotte wire and wrapping it around his neck. He manages to get his hand behind the wire but I continue to pull, leaning right back until we both hit a car. He snaps the wire in two and grabs me, flipping me forward off of him. My body slams into a car before hitting the ground and I groan, watching as he grabs his gun.
My sister abruptly appears and throws a taser disk at his metal arm. It shocks him, causing him to lose use of the arm and she grabs me, pulling me to my feet.
"Run, Ana!" She snaps and we both sprint away from the man.
"Get out of the way!" She warns the civilians as we rush past them.
"Stay out of the way!" I bark.
A gunshot is fired and Natasha screams, falling to her knees.
"Nat!" I scream, dropping to my knees next to her as she leans up against a car, holding her bloody shoulder.
We both look around frantically, trying to find the shooter but we find nothing until the soldier jumps onto a nearby car and points his gun at us. I throw myself over Natasha but the shot doesn't come so I turn, seeing Steve run at the man. The soldier throws his metal fist at Steve but the blonde blocks it with his shield, a loud clanging sound slicing through the air. He abruptly pushes the shield to the side and slams his foot into Steve's chest, both men falling backwards. The soldier recovers quickly, shooting at Steve as the Rogers man crouches and hides behind his shield.
He runs out of ammo and I jump up, shooting at him but he uses his arm to shield himself from the bullets. I myself run out of ammo and throw the gun at him, the weapon hitting him in the head. This seems to anger the man because he pulls out a small machine gun and starts firing at me, causing me to dive behind another car. Steve kicks the gun out of his hand but he just grabs a hand gun, shooting at the blonde. I jump over the car and run at the soldier, leaping onto his back. He tries to fling me off but I grab his gun and throw it as far as I can, Steve slamming his fist into the man's stomach. I'm roughly grabbed and thrown at the wall, my body colliding with the stone as he throws a punch at Steve.
They fist fight back and forth until eventually the soldier ends up with the shield and my eyes widen in surprise. Steve runs at him, but dodges last minute as the soldier throws the shield at him and the vibranium lodges itself into a van.
The metal armed man pulls out a knife and the familiarity of the way he handles the blade makes irritation bubble in my stomach. I drag myself off of the ground as Steve kicks him into a van runs at him, slamming his knee into the guy's chest. The soldier grabs Steve and flips him onto his back but as he makes a move to punch the blonde, I run at him and roundhouse kick him. He stumbles back before throwing his fist at me but I dodge the blow, pulling out a knife and swiping it at him. I slash left and right, kicking and punching at him but he dodges every one. We both begin to get sick of all the missed blows and he growls, grabbing me by my throat. I hold my blade to his neck and he squeezes my throat, choking me.
I look straight into his icy blue eyes and although his metal hand is currently squeezing the life out of me, all I feel is home.
I'd know those blue eyes anywhere
"James" I choke out and he furrows his brows at me in confusion.
I lower my blade and he shakes his head, throwing me backwards. My body rolls back until I land on one knee, looking up at the man. He tries to run at me again but Steve slams into him, the two fighting once again. James pulls out a knife and tries to stab Steve but the blonde moves just in time, the knife puncturing the metal of a van. They move sideways along the vehicle, the knife dragging across the metal with a screech until Steve tackles him to the ground. I sprint towards the van, yanking the shield out of it.
"Stevie, catch!" I holler, throwing the shield at him.
He catches it and they start fighting again, throwing punches left and right. The shield hits James' metal arm, the cracking of the metal making me wince although I know he can't feel it. Steve suddenly grabs James by the face and flips him forward, the mask falling from his face. He rolls forward onto his feet and turns to Steve and I with a glare.
"Bucky?" Steve breathes out in disbelief.
"Who the hell is Bucky?" James retorts, lifting his gun to shoot at us.
Sam swoops in and kicks James onto the ground before running towards us. James pulls himself up and his eyes meet mine. He seems conflicted as he hesitates before drawing his gun once again to shoot me. Something else is shot as Steve yanks me out the way. I watch as the car next to James explodes and I turn my head to see my sister holding the grenade launcher.
"James!" I scream, a tear rolling down my cheek.
Out of the smoke, I see James running and I pull out of Steve's hold to run after him but I'm tackled to the ground. My sister holds me down, trying to stop me from running.
"Please, Natasha! I can't lose him again!" I beg, tears streaming down my face.
The redhead looks at me with pity as she rolls off me, setting me free. I scramble to my feet and sprint after the man, ignoring Steve and Sam who call out my name.
I follow James for blocks and I realise that he keeps stopping to look back at me, letting me know that he can see me. He slips into an alleyway and I follow his lead, looking around to make sure the coast is clear before turning the corner. I walk down the alley until I reach the dead end, no sign of the man at all. I'm suddenly grabbed from behind and slammed against the brick wall.
"James" I gasp.
"Who are you?" He demands, his voice raspy from the lack of talking.
"You won't remember me" I smile sadly, slowly reaching my hand out.
He snatches my wrist before my hand can get too close to his face and tears continue to roll down my cheeks. His face softens as he watches me cry and he gently pulls my hand to his face, pressing my palm to his cheek.
"I know it's a long shot, but can you do something for me?" I plead and he nods, his thumb absentmindedly caressing my wrist "Try to remember me, okay? I'm Anastasia, but you called me Stas"
"Stas" He repeats, almost as if to hear how it sounds coming from his own mouth.
"That's it, big guy" I encourage him.
He slowly reaches forward and gently holds my face in his hands, making me smile wider through my tears.
"I'm sorry, Stas" He mumbles and I frown.
"Why are you-" Before I can finish my sentence, he slams my head against the wall and my ears start ringing.
He lays me down on the ground and I watch through blurry vision as he walks away from me.
