Chapter 5

Β  Β  Β  Β  Hoody walked into the forest, being careful with his steps. He surveyed his surroundings as he continued on. He was on edge because anything could strike at any time and he needed to be fully prepared. He made sure to keep his mind clear in order to not provoke any enemy that might be lurking in the shadows.

As he walked, he noticed the trees grow thicker and the area around him turned darker. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his gun, holding it passively in his hand. He took a right turn deeper into the forest. He stepped over a large root and glanced at the unconscious girl he held over his shoulder.

Glad I knocked her out for this. Hoody thought as the sight of the abandoned barn entered his vision. Wouldn't want her to learn the way out of here. He pushed open the door and made his way through before kicking it shut behind him.

He moved to be in front of the wall next to the door and set (Y/n) down on the floor before shoving his gun back into his hoodie pocket. He grabbed the giant board of wood and placed it on the holders to keep the door shut. A few annoyed grumbles left his mouth as he threw his soulmate over his shoulder once more.

Glaring at the stairs, he dreaded having to go up them with her added weight. "Might as well get this over with." He snarled as he placed one foot after the other on the old, decaying stairs. His eyebrows furrowed with effort and annoyance as he glared from behind his mask.

Hoody finally reached the top after a few more steps before he had to turn to the right and walk across the platform to his setup in the corner. He placed (Y/n) down on the old, dirty mattress before he sat down next to it, facing away from her line of vision.

He pulled off his mask, and breathed through his nose, running a hand down his face. Steel gray eyes trained themselves on a nail sticking out of the wooden floor. His hand stopped over his mouth and right below his nose as his mind began to race.

He didn't want to believe the message he found from his old friend, but in his gut, he knew it was true. Hoody reached into a pocket in his jeans and hurriedly pulled out the crinkled paper before looking over it once more.

"Brian,
Heya there, bud. I've found out who your soulmate is and I'm gonna kill her. I know where she lives as well, so ya might wanna get her outta there before I get to her myself. Bye bye :)

Sincerely,
Your best friend Masky"

"Fucking Tim." He swore as he crumpled the paper even more and threw it against the wall to his left. "That damn asshole." His left hand automatically went to grip onto his right forearm in a tight grip while pulling his hood further over his face.

Hoody felt a strange need to protect the younger woman behind him, and hated it, but he supposed that feeling was why he kidnapped her in the first place. He silently cursed Masky and the universe for even entertaining the idea of giving him a soulmate.

"I'm sorry." He whispered as he dug his face into his right hand. "I'm sorry that you've gotten into this mess." He silenced himself after that, choosing to wallow in his sorrows without anyone else hearing.

Shuffling on the mattress made Hoody feel alert as he tense in his position. He reached out to grab the mask, sitting about a foot to his right, reminding himself that he didn't want her to see his face yet. A small 'ow' came from her lips as more shuffling occurred, giving him the confirmation that she had come back to consciousness.

He pulled his mask closer to him and slipped it on before readjusting the yellow hood. He reached over and pressed a switch to turn on a battery-powered lamp. A small squeak came from behind, which meant she must've seen him or was just startled by the sudden light.

"Calm your tits. I'm just trying to protect you."

"I doubt that."

Hoody groaned at what he assumed to be the idiocy of the girl forced to be his soulmate. He stood from his spot and stretched his body, cracks and pops spreading a pleasant feeling through him. That feeling was quickly shook off, though, when he turned to see (Y/n) glaring at him.

"What are you trying to protect me from, huh? If you're gonna try to, then I have a right to know."

"You had that dream, right? Albeit, it should've been backwards for you where I died before you, or it was just relatively similar to mine."

She raised her guard as she crossed her arms, and it was obvious to him what the answer was. She did have it, but wasn't willing to admit that to her kidnapper. He rolled his eyes at her actions before moving over to the black backpack thrown on the floor.

Hoody paused at the sight of the paper, but ignored it in favor of digging in the bag. "What are you doing?" (Y/n) questioned, sounding like she took a step back judging by the creak that occurred from the floor. "And where the hell are we at?"

His eye twitched at her constant questioning, getting sick of her for the moment. "Grabbing something, and you're at one of my bases." He found what he was looking for and pulled it out, standing as he flipped through it.

Hoody remembered that back when he was known as a nice guy named Brian, he did quite a bit of research on soulmates. He mostly wrote the information in the small notebook that he currently held in his hands. He flipped through the pages while quickly scanning them.

He stopped at a page labelled 'Soulmate Dreams' with multiple lines under it. He read each detail carefully before throwing that notebook back in his bag. "Do you know what a 'soulmate dream' is, Starlight?"

There was a pause before he was gifted with an answer. "I don't think I do." A hum came from Hoody as he continued digging through his bag to find an orange bottle. "What are they?" (Y/n) asked as her soulmate searched.

"Soulmate dreams are dreams that are shared between soulmates that are usually very similar to each other in order to force the soulmates to become closer. The dreams, or sometimes nightmares, could turn out to be anything. They could turn out to be sweet and adorable, or dark and horrifying. Ours turned out to be the latter of those two types." Hoody paused as he debated on saying the next part. "Those dreams we are given are usually hints of what could happen in the future, even if it isn't exact."

"Does that mean..?"

"We'll most likely die pretty early in both of our lives." He grabbed onto the orange bottle full of pills and pulled a water bottle out of the case that sat nearby. He opened the water before opening the pill bottle and pulling two of them out. He ignored the sound of (Y/n) falling to her knees as he downed both pills with the water.

After closing both bottles, he shoved them into his bag before standing and turning around once more. He stared at the sight of the kneeling girl for a moment before looking out one of the holes in the wall. She had been unconscious for about two and a half hours, which meant he hit her light enough.

Buzzing took his attention away from the hole as he once again turned his gaze to her. "You gonna check that?" He was growing annoyed with the sound coming from her pocket.

(Y/n)'s hand hurriedly pulled her phone from her pocket. "It's Katie. Can I answer it?"

"What do you think?"

"I'm just gonna assume that's a no then."

"Don't decline it either, or she'll suspect something is really up. Turn your phone off after letting it ring through." Hoody could tell she wanted to protest against him, but he turned his attention back outside, watching the scenery carefully. "Never come in here alone. You understand that, Starlight?"

"Yeah, I understand, but may I ask why?"

"There are inhuman things roaming these woods. If you ever see a page nailed to a tree, don't take it either." He advised as he spotted a bit of tan. "Turn off the light and be silent."

She did as Hoody said, fear obviously flowing through her from his order. He could feel her eyes on him as he kept his trained gaze outside. Relief flowed through him once he saw it was just a deer. He looked back at (Y/n) and nodded, hopefully signalling that it was safe to turn on the light.

The girl turned on the light again before noticing the paper on the floor. "What is that paper about?"

"Masky, or as you know him, the man in the tan jacket, wants you dead."

"Why? I haven't done anything to him, so why does he also want to kill me?" Her voice had raised slightly as she spoke, making Hoodie snap.

"Lower your fucking voice." He growled as he made his way over to her. "He wants to kill you because you're my fucking soulmate. Do you understand? Or is your brain too small to comprehend a single thing I just said?"

She looked down to the ground once more at his comments. "I fucking understand, so don't talk about me like I'm some incompetent idiot who can't understand jack shit." Hoodie could feel himself crawling in the itch to beat her to a pulp.

He turned around, resisting the urge for violence as he took a few steps away. "Don't act like it then." Hoody grumbled as he picked up the crumpled ball of paper before throwing it at her, making sure it hit her square in the face.

(Y/n) fumbled to catch it once it began to fall, making Hoody laugh at how ridiculous she looked. "Stop laughing at me!" Her face was growing more red by the second as she struggled to open up the note.

Once she did, her face became focused as her eyes carefully soaked in each word. He calmed himself and studied her expression to gauge her reaction. Her eyes had widened and her lips had parted, but no noise went past them.

"Your name's Brian?" She asked, looking up at him with surprise written on her face. He pursed his thin lips as he tensed, forgetting that that name was written on there.

"You ever call me that without me giving permission, and I promise you that I'll kill you myself."

"Okay okay! I won't."

"Good."
