Ch 2: 'You Don't Know What You Got'
[Okay, so the first chapter did good. I just hope things can continue, because the story I have here feels like it could be something else. That's kinda why I want to speed through the first three episodes into 2 chapters and get into U.A. Because I feel that is where the show really picks up. So, hopefully, with what I write, it's something you guys enjoy because I'm having fun writing this story so far and I really want one of these MHA stories to stick. Hopefully, this can be the one, but only time can tell. Hope you all enjoy today's chapter!]

[Your POV]
That smile. There wasn't a time when someone saw him without that large toothy grin spread across his lips. Sometimes people asked him why he smiled so much. Some took their own opinions on the matter. But whatever someone came up with all the time it'd reflect on one thing. That smile was always present, no matter what dangers came his way. He'd always smile, even in the darkest moments. It'd never drop. Not once. That was why to a lot of people All Might was their favorite hero.
It was just one of the reasons he was Izuku's favourite. But now, as I look directly at that smile a thousand adore, I can't find any joy in it. Long ago, after everything first happened, I tended to blame All Might most of all for my brother's death. It just...It All Might was there, then...then maybe Izuku could have survived. Could...Could still be alive today. Whenever I thought about it, though, my hatred for All Might sparked. And it continued to do that...Until I finally grew up. It wasn't All Might's fault my brother died. What could he have done?
How could he have known what was going on? At the end of the day, my family drew the short straw. But the fault for blaming someone did not go away. Instead, I merely directed it solely onto myself. Mom told me I shouldn't do that, and I tried to move passed it, but I just couldn't. Before my father died, he told me the responsibility of protecting my family was now up to me. So it was my fault that I failed in that regard. Just thinking about it made the memories of those dark nights I'd cry in bed blaming myself was enough to bring a hint of them back.
That was...Until the voice of the heroic figure in front of me broke out suddenly.
"That was amazing toughness!"
(Y/n): "Huh?"
All Might: "And that Quirk! You really handled yourself well, Young Man!"
He was...He was congratulating me? I don't really know why it came as a surprise hearing it. But deep down just the fact someone said something good about my Quirk was the bullet that really dug itself into my chest. It was so strange that all I could do was just look at All Might in oddness. There was no shock anymore of seeing a Pro Hero, and the pumping of blood that normally comes when I activate my Quirk was now long gone.
All Might: [Rubs back of Neck] "Ha! Ha! Ha! Sorry, I couldn't get here any sooner kid. Tracking this villain through the sewers was not as easy a task as I first thought. Even for me."
Even when he mentioned his failures, he still laughed, though with a noticeable nervous twist, and kept that smile. When I saw this, a part of my old self started to come through. The countless questions me and Midoriya would both ask him at this point started entering my mind. But instead of asking any of them, I remained silent and went to leave without anything else. I expected some kind of response to come from All Might after seeing such a surprise reaction, especially from a Teenager, the ones who love him the most.
But in an attempt to block out the upcoming sentences I really had no interest in hearing, I went to place my headphones into my ears, hoping to drown out all other pieces of sound with music. But that's when it all happened. A sudden tiredness dawned over my body within seconds. My eyes began to close on their own as the rest of my body started to shut down. It appeared I used a little too much energy on that attack to kill the villain. Before I knew it, my body was falling to the ground. I don't know if I did end up colliding with the hard surface of the tunnel that day, or if All Might had reached me in time. Before I could get any understanding whatsoever my entire being was swallowed by the darkness.
******
"Hey! Hey! Hey! He--"
(Y/n): "H-Huh? Wha...What's going..."
"Oh, good! You're awake!"
(Y/n): "Awake? Why was I--"
I was in the middle of asking why I was out of it when my eyes slowly began to flutter open. It wasn't long after that, that I realized who was talking to me. The slick blonde hair; the bulging muscles, and of course, that smile. As my brain slowly took in the information gathered, a flash of a memory that wasn't quite my own, but felt like one appeared before my very eyes. It was showcasing Midoriya in a similar situation as the one I was in right now.
But unlike me, when he noticed All Might was standing in front of him, he quickly dawned a half-dead look on his face before he dragged his body backward in a cloud of smoke in a desperate attempt to give himself some room from the number one Pro Hero. Now, this was something I'd had seen before. Seeing images of my brother in a similar situation as one I was in myself. I don't know why it happened, Mom said that maybe I was seeing scenes take place from another reality where Midoriya survived or something. I never went along with any of that.
As much as I love my Mother, I felt that after Midoriya's death, she went on a whole roller coaster of finding a new purpose, or something to help her with her depression. But whatever these strange memories were, they'd soon pass in time, as they did now. But unlike the Midoriya I saw, I did not push my body away from the Pro Hero out of nerves or anything like that. Instead, I merely sighed and slowly got to my feet, trying my best to ignore the towering man in front of me and just move along with my day. Though I soon came to understand that wasn't going to be so easy.
All Might: "I'm glad you're okay!"
(Y/n): "Uh, huh."
I slowly get to my feet.
All Might: "Sorry 'bout having to bring you into my villain fighting."
(Y/n): "Eh. Don't worry about it. This is a dark world, Villains are a natural evil."
Wiping the dust off my pants I begin stretching my body. Boy, the muscles really did get worked up after using a good amount of power on my Quirk.
All Might: "I don't normally make mistakes like this, but I was in high spirits on my day off in a new place. Ha! Ha! Ha! But you!"
(Y/n): "Me?"
I didn't even bother to look as All Might pushed his face forward close to my own. His smile was even bigger when closer up. Most kids would probably be struggling not to faint at a moment like this. But for me, I was more focused on trying to find the right song on my phone before returning to my walk home.
All Might: "Man, I haven't seen someone so young use their Quirk in such an effective way. Ha! It took me forever to clean up that villain's remains. Bah! Oh, well, he's safely sealed now and can be taken to jail for proper judgment."
And that's when my attention was sparked.
(Y/n): "He's alive?"
My first show of a proper response to All Might, and the first time I actually outright turned to look at him.
All Might: "Yes! It appeared your attack had delivered him quite the punch! But thanks to his Quirks nature, he was able to survive."
Odd. Normally an attack like that would kill my opponent. But before I could properly work around the reasons as to how this happened, my attention was once again directed toward the hero before me.
All Might: "But do not worry, young man! You did not hurt him too badly. For I managed to capture him safely!"
It was as he said that, that All Might lifted his arms into the to showcase two empty soda bottles, instead was the slimy body of the Villain I had failed to deliver judgment on. My eyes narrowed slightly as I eyed the dazed and confused creature that was so close. Yet I couldn't do anything before All Might stashed the bottles back into his cargo pants pockets.
All Might: "Well, this has been fun, young man. You were a big help! But I best get this guy to the police."
(Y/n): "And what are they going to do with him?"
All Might: "With him? Hmm..." [Scratches Chin] "Well, I'd presume the necessary procedures would take place before they take him away to some villain correction centre where he will serve the necessary years of jail time for the crime."
(Y/n): "So what? Does he rob a place? And who knows what else this monster has done, and he just gets what? Spend time indoors?!"
All Might: "Ha! Well, it's not just that. But--"
(Y/n): "--But he gets nothing to truly teach him that doing wrong pays dearly?
"All Might: "Young man? I'm sorry, I don't think I understand what you are talking about."
Of course, you don't. You're All Might. The Number One Pro Hero. Beloved by all. Of course, you wouldn't know what this evil does to people, to families. You just stop whoever you come across and move on with your life. You're too high and mighty to remember the little people. I was so caught up in my thoughts for justice that I hadn't even realized All Might had started walking away from me. I was only brought back to reality when he looked over his shoulder to wave at me and offer one final smile in my direction.
All Might: "Thank you again. I'll see you again soon on the other side of the screen!"
As soon as his words finished All Might immediately started squatting down on his knees and began stretching. He was getting ready to leave...and he was going to take that villain with him. I couldn't let that happen. He couldn't get away and get the chance to hurt anyone else. I needed to stop him. So I thought to myself...What would Midoriya do at this moment? So, I decided to bring out my best interpretation of my late brother in hopes to get close to All Might to snatch this villain from him.
(Y/n): "Wait...Y-You're leaving already? Haha..." [Thoughts] "Boy, this is a crime all in itself."
Yet, I kept the fake smile on my face as I slowly approached the hero.
All Might: [Stretches] "Pros are constantly fighting enemies and time."
(Y/n): "Yeah, but...You're All Might...You can do anything, right?"
When I said that, a flash of Midoriya's final moment struck my mind. If All Might really could do anything, why couldn't he have just been nearby to save my brother? Why couldn't he, or anyone, be there...Why couldn't they do, what I wasn't able to?
All Might: [Stretches] "Ha! Ha! The TV may tell you that, Young Man, but unfortunately, unlike other heroes, my ways of transportation are jumping around this beautiful country. So it takes me a little longer to get to places, so I must leave as quickly as possible."
(Y/n): "Yeah...I guess...But...Can't you just...Stay...A little longer?"
Just until I could get my hands on that Villain and finish what I should have done in the first place. I failed to leave my mark on a monster once before, I'm not going to fail again. I was so close to finally getting my hands on one of the soda bottles currently sealed tightly by the pockets of All Might's pants, but just as I was inches from touching the plastic surface the giant hero suddenly turned around. In doing so shifting his body to the point the bottle was now on the opposite side of where I currently stood. So I was left to quickly bring back my fake smile as I looked up at the hero, even as he chuckled and patted my head.
All Might: [Chuckles] "I'm sorry, young man. I know meeting a hero is not a thing you get to do every day. But I'm afraid there is far too many more villains out in this world that need to be brought to justice!"
He quickly struck a pose for approximately three seconds before suddenly turning back to me.
All Might: "You understand, right?"
(Y/n): "Uh...Yeah...I understand."
I understand that if I want to keep my promise to Midoriya, of bringing punishment to all monsters that fill this world, I would have to take my own heroic path against the greatest hero of them all. I could feel the pools of green and black chaotic energy build around my palms as soon as I realize what needed to be done. I may not beat All Might, he's the number one Pro Hero for a reason.
But despite how strong one may be, nightmares are something we all face. As much as I don't want to bring Nightmares onto an otherwise good person like All Might, I also couldn't just forget my promise to Midoriya. So...There I was. Ready to take on a fully trained hero in order to get my hands on a villain I should have taken care of the first time around.
But just as I was about to act, my vision was once more taken over by those strange memories I get of Midoriya. The images that never happened, yet they felt so real. This time around it was of Midoriya, around about the same age I was now actually, holding on for dear life to the muscular leg of the aforementioned hero as he scored through the air. It felt so real. Little did I know...It was.
All Might: "Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!"
(Y/n): "Huh? Wha...What's going o--"
The first thing my eyes saw as my vision was returned to me was the countless rooftops I currently passed over high above from the blue skies that looked over them all. I...I was flying?
All Might: "Let go of me! Your fanaticism is too much!"
Nope! I wasn't flying! I WAS FUCKING HOLDING ON FOR DEAR LIFE!
(Y/n): "No way! Fuck that! If I let go I'll die!"
All Might: "Then why did you grab my leg in the first place?!"
(Y/n): "I...I, uh...I'm a fan?"
Definitely not my best excuse, but hey, I was in a situation I had no idea how I actually got into. What else is one supposed to do? All Might didn't seem to show any emotion besides the already ever-present smile, as we continued to transcend through the air. Eventually, we landed hard on one of the rooftops that occupied the vast city landscape beneath us. I knew I was in for the hell of it from All Might, but nothing like that bothered me much anyway. Though, going through a situation like that was still certain to leave a mark on my life, as soon as we hit the solid grown I couldn't help but drop my body on it without any hesitation whatsoever.
(Y/n): "Note...To self...Never fly...Again..."
All Might, however, was much too eager to leave.
All Might: "Good grief. The youth of today. If you talk to the people downstairs I am sure they will let you down."
(Y/n): [Panting] "Wait...Where are you going?"
All Might: "I seriously am outta time, kid, so I really must go."
(Y/n): "Wait! No! You can't go yet! I--'
All Might: "No. I will not wait."
(Y/n): "But--"
"You should probably give it up."
...And just like that my field of vision was cut off for the third time within the hour. Yet again an image of Midoriya came flooding to my mind. But this wasn't one of those weird memories/visions I had. This was most certainly a memory I remembered. One when we were both young, where I stood alongside my Mother...as my brother was given the worse news any kid with his interests could be given...
--Flashback--
"You should probably give it up."
Inko: "Oh no...Is something wrong with him after all, Doctor? Most other kindergarteners' Quirks have already manifested... He's the only one..."
Without a Quirk. As much as Mom tried to hide that word, she knew what was true, and so did Midoriya. Yet, even though his Quirk had yet to come through, he always held out hope that something would change. And who knows, maybe it would have. I mean, I was a year older when my Quirk finally came through. But...It's not like mine just happened, it was brought on by a tragic moment.
But for Midoriya, someone who wanted to be just like his favourite hero, All Might, he had yet to see any sign of his Quirk. So when the Doctor gave the news that he wouldn't be getting one, he was quick to go blank in the eyes. A heartbreaking look crossed his face as he dropped his All Might action figure from his hand. That thing really left it, so seeing it fall to the ground only cemented how sad this moment really was for him.
"Excuse me, but you're a fourth generation, right, ma'am? May I ask about your Quirk?"
Inko: "Yes, of course. I can pull small objects to me...And my husband ca-- could...breathe fire."
It was at this point that the Doctor turned his gaze to me. Up to this point, I had been holding an arm around Midoriya's shoulder. But as soon as I heard him mention me, my eyes moved on their own.
"And what about your other boy, here? Does he have a Quirk?"
Inko: [Smiles softly] "I'm afraid (Y/n) is in a similar situation as Midoriya. He hasn't been given his Quirk yet."
"And you're a year older than your brother, is that right?"
(Y/n): "...Yeah."
"I see. I see..." [Sighs and turns to Inko] "Normally, by the age of four, the Quirks would have manifested in your sons. They would have normally inherited either one of the Quirks bestowed through you or your husband."
Inko: "So you're saying..."
"I'm saying...In the past, when superpowers first started showing up, the results of an early research study were published. It became common practice to see if a joint was missing in the pinky toe or not to see whether a Quirk would eventually manifest or not. When parts of a body aren't used, they are deemed unnecessary. People who didn't have the joint were thought to be a newly evolved form. You can see by the X-ray I showed you earlier that Izuku has two joints. It's usual to see that these days, but that means he..."
"...has..."
"...no..."
"...Quirk..."
I don't think anyone could really describe the emotions that were going through Midoriya's mind as he was delivered such news. All I remember from that day, however, was the cold look in his eyes. One filled with sadness. But even with that sadness, he took on what All Might made a practice of...and kept on smiling. And he kept smiling...Until the day he died.
--Present--
But after Midoriya found out about his lack of a Quirk, that didn't mean he gave up on being a hero. Far from it. It only drove him further and gave him faith that he could still become what he had dreamed of since he was young. But Midoriya always had that small bit of doubt inside of him. It had ever since he asked Mom whether he could still be a hero without a Quirk and she hesitated to respond. Instead, she just told him she was sorry.
I knew, that despite the lack of words, that phrase, which came from his own Mother, broke Midoriya. So, he wanted to ask someone else that very question. Unfortunately, he was unable to pass those words on to the person he wanted to hear them. So, as I now stand before the leaving All Might, I decide to put my quest for judgment on hold, and instead do something for my loving brother...and ask All Might the question Midoriya always wanted to be answered.
(Y/n): "...Even if someone doesn't have a Quirk can they still become a hero?!"
It took a few seconds for all those words to register through to All Might, but when they did, he was quick to stop all movement just a few inches away from the blue railing that circled the rooftop we currently stood atop.
(Y/n): "Can...Can someone without a Quirk be like you?"
For a short period, all I could do was stare at the back of Al Might's head. Waiting for a response. I don't know why, but I wanted to hear this answer as much as Midoriya wanted. I don't know whether because I felt if I heard the right response then maybe it'd be like Midoriya would get a peaceful conclusion for once. But, as All Might turned his head to offer me another look at his toothy grin, I learned that happy endings aren't always a possibility.
All Might: "...Without a Quirk, you say?"
But before I could come to realize that, first I had to have a quick interlude...And that came in the form of All Might's body suddenly convulsing forward.
All Might: "Argh! Arh!"
Smoke or steam, I wasn't exactly sure what it was, soon started rising from the muscular body of the hero standing before me. I didn't know what to make of it all, it just came out of nowhere. But when a burst of blood suddenly came from his mouth, I knew that something serious was going on.
All Might: "No! Not now! Shit! Da...Damn it!"
(Y/n): "Al...All Might? Are you--"
All Might: "Shit! Fuck! S-Stay back, kid! I...I'm F-F--ARGH!!!"
Before he could finish his sentence a sudden explosion of this smoke enveloped All Might's body completely. I didn't know what to expect when it finally disappeared, but when I saw in the place of All Might, was a skinny, frail, weak-looking man wearing an oversized white shirt, I knew that was definitely far from being one of my choices. But this moment, right here, was when I came to realize that even if someone was as strong and extraordinary as All Might was...It didn't necessarily mean they were without their weaknesses. And All Might's greatest weakness was something no citizen knew about...Until now.
******
In the busy city, Kaito could be seen laughing and hanging out with his friends, his true nature revealed to them as they looked for mischief and fun. However, in order to get to their destination earlier, the young boy and his friends decided to take a quick detour down a dark alleyway. Unknown to them, however, was what truly lay inside of it. Meanwhile, back on the roof, my eyes only continued to widen with each passing second as I came to witness the true face of the man that was All Might.
(Y/n): "Y-Y-You're All Might...? But...But...You're so...Normal?"
All Might: "I am All Might."
I don't know what was more shocking. This man that seemed to be the complete opposite of All Might took claim to be the renowned hero or the blood that dropped from his mouth as he said those very words.
All Might: "I see you are shocked."
(Y/n): "No, shit. You just went from being the Number One Pro Hero to...A guy who looks like he spins a sign outside a pizza place...No offence."
All Might: [Sighs] "Think of it like how guys at the pool are constantly flexing and posing. It's like that?"
(Y/n): "Really?" [Thoughts] "Wow. Wonder what Midoriya would think about that?"
I couldn't help but silently chuckle at just thinking about it. He'd probably scream 'No way!' and be completely shocked beyond belief. Then again, it wasn't like I wasn't shocked either. I was just better at holding it in than Izuku was. Instead, I just smirked a little as I found amusement in the situation. Not in a cocky or disregarded way. It was just... Funny to me.
(Y/n): "So...This is the real All Might, huh? Can't say I'm not surprised that's for sure."
All Might: [Sighs] "I would not blame you for that."
He said as he slowly allowed his back to run down the blue railing before his but planted itself on the ground. Only then did he return his gaze to my own.
All Might: "Now that you have seen me like this, young man, make sure you don't write about it online, not even accidentally."
(Y/n): "Eh. You have nothing to worry about."
All Might: "Hmm? That's a surprise. Normally you fans would be all over this. Especially seeing someone as famous as All Might be revealed to be nothing but a person like me."
(Y/n): "Yeah, well...You help people, and you give people hope. So...If I were to take that away from people, that wouldn't make me any better than the villains."
All Might: "Huh? That's pretty wise."
Maybe. But I didn't really care. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if a few people seeing this thought I had a sudden character flip or something. But they'd have to remember that I don't hate heroes. I think they failed my brother, and villains need to be brought to justice...permanently. But these heroes still help people, and bring hope to a bunch of kids, as All Might did for my little brother. I could never take that away from anyone. So, I would keep All Might's secret. But with the end of the aforementioned hero's previous sentence, a stillness came over the scene as we just stood there. Until finally I decided to cut the silence short.
(Y/n): "So that blood that came from your mouth...That normal or are you hiding something else?"
All Might: "Heh. So you noticed that, huh? ...I was kinda hoping you wouldn't."
(Y/n): "Well, it kinda happened straight after seeing a tall muscular man turn into you. So I don't think I'll be forgetting any of this, really."
All Might: "I wouldn't expect anything else from your inquisitive generation." [Sighs] "Well, to answer your question. It's all because of this..."
Within seconds my eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. But not out of joy as one may direct with such a saying, but more so out of shock when I saw a disgusting purple strain over All Might's right pectoral muscle and down his side. It was like someone had punched the road and caused a crack to appear in the surrounding area. It was not a good sight to see, especially when one remembered that this injury belonged to the Number One Pro Hero himself.
All Might: "It's an injury I got five years ago from an enemy. Half of my respiratory system was destroyed, and I lost my whole stomach. I've become emaciated from repeated surgeries and the aftereffects."
(Y/n): "Looks like you pulled the short end of the straw for once, huh?"
All Might: "You could say that. Right now, I can only work as a hero for three hours a day."
(Y/n): "So what now? You're a reserve-grade hero?"
All Might: "Ha! As if I would let them do that to me. I keep up appearances and help as much as I can within those designated hours. The fight wasn't made public, so to everyone else, including the villains, I am perfectly fine."
(Y/n): "To keep them afraid?"
All Might: "And to give people hope, as you said. I will save them with a smile! The symbol of peace cannot be daunted by evil."
You couldn't really help but respect the guy in the moment. He's going through stuff of his own, and yet he continues to fight for those who cannot defend themselves. Once again, I couldn't help but smile thinking about what Izuku would think about him right now. All Might definitely was the hero he thought he was, well...Mostly.
All Might: "I smile to show the pressure of heroes and to trick the fear inside of me. Pros are always risking their lives. So...To answer your question...I cannot simply say, you cannot become a hero even without a power."
I expected as much to come as a response. Yet, still, as the words slowly began to register through my system, my mind was quick to think of what Izuku would think of this situation. He'd be heartbroken. In shock that the very person he looked up to, the person he wanted to answer this question the most, in the hope he'd offer something more than a simple 'I'm sorry'. Well, he offered more than that, that was fair to say.
Still, whereas Izuku always seemed to hold out hope that All Might would spark something inside of him that'd prove he didn't need a Quirk to be a hero, I was always more realistic. Even though I knew the chances of Izuku becoming a hero weren't more so unlikely, I never once push down his dreams. Dreams are what make the men and women that are around us all. Their dreams are what pushed them to be the very thing they are today. And Izuku's dream...Was to be a hero, no matter what.
All Might: [Groans and gets up] "I don't know who that question you're asking is for, but it'd be best to tell them to give up on that dream of being a hero. If they want to help others, then they should become a police officer. They're often teased because they get villains delivered to their doorstep, but that is also a fine occupation. It's not bad to dream..."
(Y/n): "It is when all you dream about is Nightmares, though."
All Might: "Huh?"
I didn't mean to say that so loud. I didn't mean to say it at all. Yet, I did. And once I did there was no stopping me from going any further as I turned to meet the gaze of the confused All Might yet again.
(Y/n): "You may be held back by your injury, but you don't know what you've got, All Might. Being a hero... It's not just a title. It's a role that inspires so many. It inspired my brother. He...He didn't have a Quirk, yet, he didn't let that hold him back from being a hero when it mattered."
All Might: "...I'm sorry? I'm not sure I follow."
(Y/n): "He died. Risking his own life to save our Mother. He jumped in the way to protect her from a monster, even though he had no powers. Unfortunately, he died, but he did it being a hero, because he believed you would tell him something no one else could...That he could be a hero even without a Quirk. As for me, I have Nightmares of that night every time I close my eyes..." [Turns to All Might] "So just because you're injured, don't let that hold you back from being a hero. Because remember, not everyone got to be so lucky."
I don't exactly know what type of response I got from the Number One Pro Hero after saying that, and to be honest, I didn't really care. I think the reason I spoke out so much just now was because it was the easiest way for my brain to cope with it. If I spoke out what my inner thoughts had been holding back to someone I would most likely never come face to face with ever again, at least then I could get it out of my system and not have to deal with the consequences of any follow-up questions.
Though, now that I think of it, All Might probably was going to do exactly that when suddenly our combined attention was suddenly drawn to the city where a sudden explosion of smoke could be seen filling the air. Immediately All Might's gaze shifted to his pockets on reflex, and a good thing they did, for when we both saw that no sign of those plastic soda bottles within the pockets of the cargo pants he wore, we knew who was more than likely the cause behind the chaos currently disrupting the city.
All Might: "No. It can't be..." [Clenches fist before turning to you] "Young Man, I am sorry, bu--"
By the time he turned to me, however, I was no longer there. The sound of the stairwell door swinging shut was all the confirmation All Might needed to get the signal that I had already taken off. But whereas he probably thought I just ran off to check out the action or continue on my journey home, I knew that this villain causing panic was my fault. I wouldn't let him hurt anyone else. So instead of running home, I ran toward the action. Not because I wanted to see what heroes would be taking on this mess. But for me to keep my promise.
One in which I gave my little brother...Right after he died. I still remember the warmth his body gave off even after the life had left him. My tears came in waves strong enough to dampen his skin as I held his body closer to my own. Over and over again I cried for him to wake up. To come back so he could live his dream. But he never did wake up. And I lost my best friend. But it was in that moment, before the police finally arrived, that I looked down at the face of my brother and delivered him a promise that would shape my life for the years to come ahead.
"I...I promise. From this moment forward...To not let fear hold me back in the face of monsters. I will not stop, not rest, until every last villain has felt my vengeance. They will soon all become consumed by the nightmares I will rain down upon them. Soon they won't be able to close their eyes without thinking of the pain I caused them. The suffering I caused them. Like the suffering I felt. I promise you, Izuku... All Villains will fall."
And now, as I open my eyes to allow the cold breeze that brushes against my face as I run through the streets I'm reminded of that promise yet again. And I'm reminded how I can't stop until all monsters in this world have felt what it really means to be scared of something.
[3rd Person POV]
But as heroes of all types rush to save the day, it's shown elsewhere in the heart of the action that saving the day would not be as easy of a task as one may first think. On the scene, in the middle of the Tatooin
Shopping District, Death Arms along with two other heroes are forced to a stop when a sudden explosion of flames rockets the surrounding area. Windows shatter instantly and buildings start to crumble as people flee for their lives.
"It's a villain!"
"Help!"
"Someone stop this monster!"
Their voices flood the air as they rush passed the heroes, but even the heroes found themselves a little stuck for action when their eyes finally landed on what was going on before them. The Villain made of goo could be seen in the dead centre of the shopping district, his sinister grin spread across his gooey mouth as scorching flames resonated around him.
But it wasn't just random that such a freak bit of nature took place, as upon closer look the villain could be seen having taken Kaito as his next victim. The orange-haired male could be seen struggling against the hold that this sludger villain had him in. But he couldn't free himself, leaving his outburst of rage to fuel his flaming Quirk, which was only causing more damage to the surrounding area around him.
"A child has been taken hostage?!"
One of the heroes stated in shock. But when Death Arms saw such a thing, he was quick to rage. Bringing his fists to slam together.
Death Arms: "You coward!"
With no hesitation whatsoever the mighty strong hero charged into the battle, launching himself into the air he drew his arm back before sending it forward with the rest of his body as gravity took over. With ease, his fist penetrated the body of the sludge villain, though that didn't mean his attack did any damage to this monster. As the hero quickly came to know when he felt his fist and upper arm beginning to get pulled into the villain's body.
Death Arms: "What is this?!" [Gasp] "I can't grab hold?"
"But I can."
Instantly Death Arms' focus was directed to the side, only seconds before he was struck with powerful force by a wayward tendril from this Sludge Villain. An attack like that was able to cause such a strong hero to immediately get tossed through the air like he was nothing. His body soon collided with a metal steel door from one of the vendors placed within the marketplace. A sharp groan escaped his lips as his fellow heroes arrived by his side.
"Death Arms!"
"Crap! Look out!"
It wasn't long before the attacks from the sludge villain were in coming in the direction of the heroes who had accompanied Death Arms to the scene. But just like the hero, they were quickly swatted to the side, much to the pleasure of the villain.
Sludge Villain: "Do not come any closer!"
It was at this point that (Y/n) reached the scene, just in time to see Kaito break free of the villain's hold long enough that he was able to get his head out to scream out in rage.
Kaito: "No! I won't let sewage like you swallow me! I'm going to be the greatest hero ever!!!"
It was at this point that another burst of Kaito's Quirk sounded, causing the dust storm of extremely hot flames to explode across the surrounding area. Even the wind that brushed passed (Y/n)'s face, and the faces of all other civilians and police that watched from behind the safety barrier, gave off the perfect suggestion of just how hot these flames in the distance really were. But whereas others looking on worried for the safety of this trapped boy, or wondering exactly how this villain could be stopped, all (Y/n) could do was clench his fist in rage.
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "This is all my fault. If I didn't get distracted. If I would have just taken care of this villain when I had the chance, all this chaos could have been resolved..."
(Y/n) was suddenly broken from his thoughts when he began to feel the ground beneath his feet start to shake. Quickly his gaze was adverted down the street to his side as a voice in the distance from a nearby civilian included him as to the cause of it all.
"Look! It's the rookie hero, Mt. Lady!"
The giantess woman rushed toward the scene, surely she would make a difference...Only for her to became hesitant as she reached the narrow streets of the shopping district.
Mt. Lady: "W-Wait... I need there to be at least two lanes!"
Back in the flames, two students that were hanging out with Kaito could be seen getting pulled from the frenzied flames by Kamui Woods, who used his strong wooden tendrils to lift them to safety. Though he too was quick to flee due to the flames surrounding him in every possible direction.
Kamui Woods: "I'm not good with flames, I need to get out of here quick!"
Not far away, Backdraft could be seen on the scene, using his water-based powers to take out the flames the best he could.
Backdraft: "I have my hands full fighting the fire." [Turns to Death Arms] "Death Arms, you need to fight the villain!"
Death Arms: "No can do. He's sticky and hard to grab, and a child with a strong Quirk is struggling to against him causing his powers to go haywire."
"Thanks to that, it's a Minefield!"
"It's hard to do anything against this triple play!"
Death Arms: "It's no use! There's no one who can take care of this at the scene right now. All we can do is wait for someone with a more suitable Quirk to arrive!"
It was at that moment that (Y/n)'s attention sparked back to life.
(Y/n): "...Wait? They want to wait? And allow more people to potentially get hurt? How...How can they do this?!"
Immediately (Y/n)'s mind was taken back to that night, so long ago, when he was the one to wait. And due to his hesitation to act out, it caused his little brother to take that leap of faith instead...and died. The more (Y/n) thought of this, and the more he just watched as all these heroes just stood around...He realized that not one of them knew what they had got! They didn't know that, unlike others, they were given powers, to save the day, to help those who cannot help themselves.
There were people out there who had no powers and even they did more to help people in times of need. Just seeing this made (Y/n) sick, but nothing made him worse than when he realized that right now there were ten times the amount of heroes here than there were that night Midoriya died. Yet, none of them were doing a single thing to do anything right now. That's when (Y/n) realized something. If you wanted something done... You'd have to do it yourself. It was at this time that All Might finally arrived on the scene.
As soon as he made it, however, his weak body was quick to limp against a nearby corner as he struggled to catch his breath. Meanwhile, his hand reached out for the wound that was hidden from underneath his shirt. But his mind could hardly remain on himself for long before his gaze was directed through the crowd when he saw his worse fears come to life. The villain attacking the district, and causing so much pain, was the villain he allowed to get away. Immediately a wave of guilt and anguish crushed the Pro Hero as he was overcome with guilty thoughts.
All Might: "He must have gotten away when I was struggling to free that fan from my leg... I was too distracted by my time limit, to focused on myself, that I didn't concentrate on what really mattered." [Sighs] "I can't believe I made such a mistake after admonishing that fan. Pathetic... Pathetic... Pathetic..."
That word seemed to repeat itself over and over again within the mind of All Might that he didn't think he'd ever be given a different one again. That was until his mind was suddenly brought back to reality as a loud voice sounded in the distance.
Death Arms: "Idiot! Stop!"
All Might: "Huh?"
Immediately lifting his gaze was all it took for a haunting feeling to wash over All Might's entire body as he witnessed (Y/n) shove passed the crowd, in between the heroes just standing there, and rushed toward the carnage in the centre of the shopping district.
[Your POV]
"Stop!"
"Someone has to save him!"
"He's going to get himself killed!"
Countless voices told me to stop. Called me an idiot for rushing into the danger. Well, I'd ask them, who was the real idiot here? The person rushing in to help? Or the people just standing there without trying everything they've got? In the end, I didn't care what they said. I didn't care who I was saving.
All I cared about what keeping my promise to my brother, to bring judgment on all monsters in this world, and I wouldn't rest, wouldn't stop, until they all have been punished. But the civilians and the onlooking heroes weren't the only ones to see me risk my own life, Kaito, still entrapped by the sludge villain, witnessed it as well.
Kaito: "...That brat...Deku...He's stealing my moment. He's...He's trying to be the hero...The hero...I should have been...The hero I was when I first fought this villain...But got caught...He's...He's...HE'S THE WORST!!!"
It was with that final scream that another wave of hot flames came my way. Normally such a thing would have stopped me, but as I saw the orange flames come my way my entire line of sight was suddenly swallowed with Midoriya's terrified face as the blue flames that rose from the palms of that monster filled his sight. I had never been afraid of fire, even after that point, but there was something about all this that brought me to a sudden standstill.
And, who knows, this could have been my place to die. My final resting place before I'd be taken away to be with my brother. However, whoever was watching out for me from above clearly had no plans for me to die just yet. For just as it seemed the bright orange flames were destined to reach me they were suddenly cut off by a wall of white. At least, it appeared like a wall at first. But the more my consciousness was brought back to reality, the more I began to realize that this wasn't a wall at all. It was a person. It was...
"All Might!"
The phrase sounded just as I realized such myself. Slowly, as momentary shock overtook my system, my eyes slowly started to lift upward until finally, it landed on the shadowed gaze and bright smile of the hero beloved by all.
All Might: "Do not fear for... I Am Here!"
It was as those words came to an end that my gaze once more met the heroes, but this time around there was a different feeling in the air. I couldn't tell what it was at the moment. But one day soon I'd come to realize it was a form of respect. Not that I needed it, but it was there. Unfortunately, we could not set about on this moment for much longer before the Sludge Villain was alerted to the sudden hero's arrival.
Sludge Villain: "All Might! Finally! I can get my revenge on you! Argh!"
Without hesitation, the sludge villain sent a powerful tendril directly our way. It didn't take much thought for either me or All Might to dodge the attack. Him shifting to the right whilst I went left. It was after that moment that the battle really got into gear. I could tell All Might was warming up for his signature attack, but I couldn't let him do that. I couldn't let this villain get away again, so once I saw All Might dash forward upon seeing an opening, I followed quickly.
Before anyone realized anything, me and All Might be once more side by side, zooming through the air as we reeled our fists back in the union. To some watching, it may have seemed like we were teaming up to take out the mutual enemy. Heck, it may have even been like that to All Might himself. But to me, I didn't care who was by my side right now. They didn't matter. All that mattered was making sure this villain never hurt anyone ever again, so as the next set of words launched from All Might's mouth, I charged up a clenched fist with my Quirk.
All Might: "Detriot Smash!"
(Y/n): "AAARRRRGGGHHH!!!!"
Our attacks struck simultaneously. But whereas along with his attack, All Might reached through the quickly dispursing sludge to grab ahold of Kaito's arm, I instead infused the villain with my Quirks real power. The green and black chaotic energy immediately planted itself into the villain's body as his entire form got sent flying backward at the speed of light. A powerful explosion went off at that moment. One so strong that Mt Lady was forced to wrap her arms around the onlooking civilians and police to keep them from blowing away.
The combination of attacks proved so successful that a whirlwind was formed directly in the centre of the shopping district that day, a sight that could be seen from miles away. Eventually, it faded into nothing, however, and a still silence was once more brought back to the city. All Might left hunched over, smoke rising from his arm as he caught his breath. As for me, I merely hovered my gaze over my own arm. Watching as the sparks of green and black energy left disappeared before lifting my head to see the villain's sludge body completely splatted against a brick wall some one hundred meters further down within the shopping district.
Police weren't far off from running down to apprehend the unconscious villain that had caused so much worry and panic. It wasn't until I saw a familiar green tint appear in the dazed villain's eyes that I blew a sigh of relief. That was all the confirmation I needed to know he wouldn't be hurting anyone ever again. However, just as I went to leave, I was instantly brought to a standstill when I saw the dozens upon dozens of shocked faces looking my way. Whether it be reporters, citizens, police, to heroes like Death Arms, Kamui Woods, or Mt Lady, all were looking in the direction I currently stood in.
Though as a tall shadow loomed from behind, I realized they weren't looking at me, but the person who really saved the day, at least, in their eyes. Immediate cheers lifted into an uproar as All Might's smile fell upon all who were watching. Things continued like this for who knows how much longer. But they did. The people cheered and praised All Might for being there yet again to save the day. Meanwhile, for me, I was left getting the short end of the stick by characters like Death Arms and a few other heroes for being 'wreckless' and 'idiotic'. But I didn't care what they said, thought, or did, I merely took their words on the chin and took my leave when I was able to slip away undetected.
To be honest, in my quest to bring out judgment, I never searched for praise or anything like that. I knew I didn't deserve it. I wasn't a hero. I was a grieving person on a mission of vengeance. People like that didn't deserve praise...Yet, sometimes I couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if it were the other way around. If Izuku was still alive. If I didn't hesitate that night.
If things were like the visions I saw sometimes. Well, there wasn't much I could do about that. That was just wishful thinking. So, as All Might got interviewed by reporters for saving the day once more, I waited for the police to escort the Sludge Villain, now restrained in a properly sealed tube that'd do ten times the work an empty soda bottle could, into one of the many cop cars that filled the destroyed street.
Sludge Villain: [Dazed] "Nightmares...Nightmares...S-So many Nightmares...I want to make them stop...Someone make them stop...Please!"
Cop: [Cackles] "HaHaHa! Just you wait until you get to the big house, buddy. Your Nightmares are just only getting started."
Good. They took his words as nothing more than a joke. Little did I need some police officer digging into what really was going on with this 'reformed' villain's sudden character change. Though, now that I knew my job had been accomplished I returned to my walk home, hoping I wouldn't get back too late that Mom would be worried sick. But as the sky turned orange, and I reached the final corner to the road that'd lead straight toward the apartment building me and Mom live in, I was suddenly brought to an abrupt stop when out of nowhere All Might appeared from out behind the corner.
All Might: "I am here!
(Y/n): "All Might?! What the--"
All Might: "FUDGE!"
Was that really his attempt to cut me off from swearing? Though, being serious, I was a little surprised to see the aforementioned hero standing before me right now. Especially with all the attention he had just moments. Quickly, my shock weighed out and I was back to normal.
(Y/n): "What are you doing here? Thought you were busy with those reporters?"
All Might: "Getting away from them was a piece of cake. Why? Because I am All Migh--Huh?"
The hero's attempt at striking a pose was immediately cut off when he realized I was no longer standing in front of him. Instead, I proceeded to turn the corner and continue on my walk. Such seemed all that needed to be done for All Might to return to his main focus. Quickly he returned to reality and went to chase after me.
All Might: "Hey! Wait! Kid, I just wanted to--"
'POOF!'
Well, that was until his body suddenly got engulfed in smoke. When it faded, the frail man that truly was All Might came back to light, a string of blood flowing from his mouth as he did so. But I offered it no more than a glance over my shoulder before continuing on my path. However, I did not get far before stopping. The sound of All Might coughing violently over and over again soon filled the air. The frail man could be seen doing exactly that as more blood burst from his mouth.
Though, he eventually came to a stop when a plastic water bottle came into view. One which I currently held out for him. Not long later, instead of being home, I was sitting on a concrete step watching as the sun went down in the distance. Next to me was All Might. A sentence I never thought I'd even think about in my life. With another flow of water running down his throat, the unlikely hero finally turned to face me, of course, I kept my gaze dead ahead on the setting sun.
All Might: "Young man. I came searching for you to deliver thanks, a correction, and a suggestion."
(Y/n): "Let me guess? One of those is 'What you did was stupid, don't do it again'?"
Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that was dead on.
All Might: [Smiles] "Well, I was going to say something along those lines. But seeing as you already guessed it, I shall leave that one out."
(Y/n): "So what did you want to thank me for then? Because if its for helping take out that villain, that kinda contradicts your first message there."
All Might: "I came to thank you because...If it weren't for you...If you hadn't been there... If you hadn't told me about your life... I would've turned into a guy with a bodysuit who was all talk. Or, as you put it earlier, I merely didn't know what I'd got. But now I do. So, thank you."
Okay, even I had to admit, hearing a hero thank you was a cool feat not many others could say they had received. But I didn't mention that to All Might. Instead, I just remained silent and nudged my shoulders.
All Might: "You know, top heroes have stories about them from their school days. Most of their stories have something in common: Their bodies moved before they had a chance to think."
It was at that point that another memory struck my mind. This time it took me back to that dark night as Izuku showcased no hesitation whatsoever as he raced off to save our Mom.
All Might: "And today, as I waited, and all those other heroes wait, you were the only one who didn't hesitate. You didn't wait to think. You acted. And because of you, that boy is alive."
(Y/n): "Yeah, well... T-That's what my brother would have wanted." [Chuckles] "Even if Kaito is an asshole. I-Izuku never would have wanted him to get hurt. And deep down...I didn't want to see him get hurt either."
Now, that was debatable. But it felt like it was the right thing to say. Either way, as my thoughts were once more consumed by all this emotion I was suddenly brought back to reality as All Might slowly got to his feet. My eyes followed shortly after until I saw that smile once more dawned on his face. Even though he looked nothing like a hero right now, he still smiled...He still smiled.
All Might: "And that right there is the very reason you are worthy to inherit my power."
(Y/n): "W-Wait, what?"
All Might: "I am talking about my power, young man. The papers called it superhuman strength or a boost. I constantly dodged the questions in interviews with a funny joke. Because I was a symbol of peace, All Might had to be a natural-born hero. But young man, I will tell you the truth... My Quirk was passed down onto me like a sacred torch."
(Y/n): "It was passed onto you? So, what... You're a fake?"
All Might: "W-What? I-I wouldn't go that far, but, um..." [Coughs] " The point is, my Quirk was passed onto me, and I am here to search for someone to pass it onto." [Looks at you] "And after everything I have witnessed today, I feel you are the perfect choice to...Inherit my power!"
(Y/n): [Thoughts] "But you don't even know me well enough to decide such a thing as important as that."
Before I could revert any such words to All Might himself, I was suddenly taken elsewhere when a bright light appeared in the palm of the Number One Pro Hero standing before me.
All Might: "I was crowned with 'One For All'! One person cultivates the power and passes it on to another person, who also cultivates it and passes it on again. It is the crystallization of all this power that spins together the voices of those who need help with a courageous heart."
Slowly the light fades away as All Might closes his hand. But the stunned look on my face did not fade at all. It was kinda like my old self was back for a moment, but in reality, I feel I was so shocked only because I couldn't believe what I was hearing, and I knew that if Midoriya were here now, he'd be freaking out even more.
All Might: [Sighs] "I understand this must be a lot to take in. But I am looking for a successor, but I was having trouble doing that. That was...Until I met you!"
(Y/n): "Me?"
All Might: "I mean, look at you! You have everything perfect to become a hero! You have the courage to jump into battle without warning about yourself. You have a goal like no other, to make up for the passing of your brother! A drive like that will never be stopped, that gives you everything you need to be a hero."
(Y/n): "B-But I already have a Quirk..."
Am I really considering this?
(Y/n): "Wouldn't that block me out of contention or something?"
...I was.
All Might: "Not necessarily. It is true, having a Quirk is quite the thing, and having two will be even more of a task to handle. But I believe with the right training you shall be able to make One For All your own, and with it you shall protect people all over the world!"
All... Over the world? Now, it's true. Up to this point, I had already been using the Quirk I was born with to bring out my vengeance on all the monsters that fill this world. That was my quest. That had been my goal. Sure, I had ended up helping people in that process, but my first focus was always making sure these monsters never hurt anyone ever again. And maybe with something like One For All...And becoming a 'Hero' to all around the world, maybe then I could truly make my promise a reality and defeat all Monsters not just in Japan, but everywhere!
It was in that moment, the person before me shifted. No longer was All Might standing before me, but in his place was Izuku, my little brother, or, at least, what he would look like if he were still here today. As he stood there, the setting sunset as a backdrop, he smiled down at me and held out his hand. I didn't know if this was some wicked trick from some higher force, or perhaps it was the same version of my brother I saw in my visions. Whoever it was, I felt as if they were here to tell me to take this opportunity. So...I did. Slowly, I reached out and took Midoriya's hand.
That day, I accepted All Might's offer in taking on his power and becoming the next heir for One For All. But my goal was not just as simple as All Might may have seen it. I took this power to not just protect people but to deliver my judgment and become a figure on a worldwide basis. So I could not only cast out the monsters from Japan, but everywhere. So, I decided right here and now, that I would take on OneFor All; I would train with All Might; and I would go to the greatest Hero Academy around, U.A., and train to be the very thing I know my brother would want me to be.
But I wasn't going there to be a hero. In fact, if anything... I was going there to be the Anti of the word hero. Not a villain. Not one of those monsters. I guess, if you wanted to get more narrowed down to the point...
"...I was going to be an Anti-Hero."
[And there we go, chapter 2 is done. But not over yet. This ones a little different, because not only was this a chapter...But I decided I should place a small BIO just below this to get a few things to become more clearer...So, read below if you wanna understand some more stuff that's going on~
Name: (Y/n) Midoriya
[Perferrably likes to be called (Y/n) instead of his last name, unlike his brother and most others]
Age: 17
Quirk #1: Nightmare
[Other than let the nightmares loose. With this ability (Y/n) is able to realize and conjure inner demons, monsters forged from the very mind of his own, and those he fights against. It's with these demons that he controls them to combat his opponents. But he can also scar those he touches when activating his Quirk, causing them to be haunted by Nightmares, and for villains, he keeps that power activated so they'll never be able to hurt people again.]
But that's not the only Quirk he has...
Quirk #2: Dark For All
[When given One For All by All Might, (Y/n) realizes that there is more of an opportunity to use this power than what All Might is already using it for. But not only can he use All Might's powers, but when combined with his other Quirk, serious hell on Earth crap can take place. Hence the change of name...Dark For All.]
Suit: (Normal)
Suit: (Nightmare Form)
[When given the freedom to his first Quirk, a more animalistic side of (Y/n) comes out. Let's just say when that happens...All hell on Earth is unleashed.]
Harem: [Now, this may seem like the wrong book to have a Harem. But I'm gonna make it work out, I just ask you to give me time. But this is who I have first up...]
1.) Mina Ashido (Are we really surprised she's into the bad boy?)
2.) Momo Yaoyorozu (She's a rich girl...Do I need to say more?)
3.) Toru Hagakure (She may be invisible, but she still has a heart, alright?)
4.) Jiro Kyoka (Two peas in a pod. They both don't like talking to others and would much rather listen to rock music)
5.) Ochaco Uraraka (The sweet cracker that she is...She fell for Midoriya. What do you think she'll be like for a cooler version?)
6.) Tsuyu Asui (This Tadpole...Is a hotter version of the one from the show)
7.) Midnight (Let's just say the Dark and brooding attitude isn't just a turn on for this one)
8.) Mt. Lady (She literally showed her ass to a crowd, so what's stopping her from going after this world's Batman?)
9.) Mirko (Bunny Waifu...You can't go wrong with that. Especially since the red is also a bunny, well, in one way. I will let you come up with what that means)
[These are all I've got for now. Of course, there's an opportunity for more. So let me know who'd you like to see added!!!] So, yeah, there we have it for now. Next chapter will be out next week. Or sooner if this chapter goes well, so we'll see how that goes. If you did enjoy, feel free to vote and comment, and I'll see you all around sometime soon~]
