"Hey, don't you think their setter is kind of small?"
"Yeah, and he looks kind of frail."
"Maybe he's a backup setter."
"I've never heard of this school."
Yukana was generally nice but she didn't tolerate anyone talking smack about her precious team. "You haven't heard of this school maybe because you aren't good enough." They turned to face her, and if the ravenette's scowling face wasn't enough, the captain stood behind her. "We're not from around here either."
"That frail shrimp you guys are talking about is the backbone of Nekoma. He's our brain." Kuroo said, a dark expression adorning his features, "and our heart."
"Now, move. You're blocking our way." Her voice was monotone, but even they could feel the coldness that radiated from her.
"You're so cool Yu," he cooed, draping an arm over her shoulder.
She huffed, "whatever. Warm up with the others."
"Let me stay with you... I don't need to warm up righ—" he trailed off when he saw the expression on her face. "C'mon Yu, I feel like we haven't hung out in awhile. You never sleepover anymore."
Yukana pursued her lips and folded her arms, "we can hang after you win this practice match. And if you win the game against Karasuno, I'll sleepover. How's that?"
Kuroo's lips curved up into a grin, "promise?'
"I promise, nerd," she rolled her eyes at him and pushed him onto the court. With her clipboard in hand, she walked over to the benches to asses everyone's form, jotting down notes and what they could further work on. It was fine until he popped into her thoughts, almost making her drop the pen she was holding.
She thought no one had noticed the sudden lack of composure as it was minuscule, but, two people did.
Kenma cared about practice, he did, to some extent but if he had to choose between volleyball and her, he'd always choose her. He stopped setting and made his way over to her, "what's wrong?"
"Hm? Shouldn't you be setting Ken?" Yukana looked up from her clipboard and into his golden hues.
Though before he could answer, Kuroo had wandered over and draped an arm over the blond's shoulder. "How come he gets to skip out on warming up?" He pouted, looking into her mesmerising cerulean eyes. "Just tell me you like him more than me already."
Her lips curved upwards into a smile, completely forgetting about him, as she rolled her eyes playfully, "oh please, I thought you already you knew that."
"You know, their manager's kind of cute."
"Kind of? You mean she's gorgeous right?"
"Lowkey scary though."
"Her smile's pretty."
Yukana placed her clipboard down and pinched their cheeks, "go and practice slackers. The game will start soon."
"You think we'll lose?"
She shook her head, "of course not, I have faith in you, little kitties."
From her demeanour and the way she was acting, she'd already forgotten what she was thinking about because of what the black haired captain had said, Kenma couldn't help but think it was a better way of making her feel better than what he was going to do.
And just liked he'd recognised the minuscule change when she was sad, she could do the same. No words were spoken as she pushed off the taller male and engulfed the smaller one in a hug. It was her way of reassuring him.
"So rude." Kuroo pouted and wrapped his arms around the both of them.

Nekoma won, as she'd expected. True, they had no special tricks or genius player but, they had consistency, timing, experience and teamwork. Whenever the other team had spiked the ball into their court, she always knew they'd be able to pick it up.
"How'd we do? How'd we do?" Yamamoto asked as he ran up to her and with the expression on his face, she knew that he wanted her to praise him.
"You did amazing, Taketora. Your form was better than last time." Yukana said, patting his head.
Kuroo watched as his team interacted with the ravenette and though that was her job, he still felt a little jealous that they were receiving her attention and not him. And they were was no doubt that the team was fond of her, but he knew specifically that two other people liked her.
Even though her focus was on the team, she could feel the captain's gaze piercing into her. "Alright, everyone should rest up for tomorrow. I'm going to talk to coach."
"They're all very fond of you, Yukana and you may not realise it because you're too focused on them as a team but they're doing their best to impress you." Nekomata gave her his usual grin and patted her head. "Are you sure you don't mind sleeping with the boys?"
"I know they won't do anything. I trust them."
"It looks like someone's waiting for you, goodnight Yukana. Don't let the boys bite." A mischievous smile appeared on his wrinkled face as he watched her walk towards the captain of Nekoma's volleyball team. He couldn't help but smile fondly at their interaction, at how the taller male ruffled her hair and how she swatted his hand away with furrowed brows but couldn't hide the grin on her lips.
Kuroo looked down at her, "took you long enough."
"It wasn't my fault," she scoffed and rolled her eyes at him but she was happy he waited for her, not that she'd tell him that.
He held out his hand for her to take as a smile graced his rather handsome features, "walk with me?"
Yukana's blue hues looked into his hazel ones and she could feel herself melt ever so slightly. This. This was why she hadn't hung around him in a while, why she'd slowly distanced herself. It was because the budding feelings she had for him, begun to blossom and she didn't want it to develop further. Yukana didn't want their friendship to end just because she'd started to see him in a romantic light.
"Yuka?"
"What?"
"I said, walk with me?"
"For how long?"
"Not long."
How could she say no to him? "Fine."
With a grin, Kuroo laced their fingers together as he pulled her closer to him. And they walked in silence for a solid five minutes before he spoke up, "I missed you, Yu. Are you sure you haven't been avoiding me?"
"I... haven't."
He stopped and gave her hand a squeeze, "tell me the truth, please. Have I done something wrong?"
A heavy sigh escaped her lips and her heart wrenched at the expression on his face, he looked so dejected. Placing a hand on his cheek, she forced him to look into her blue hues, "no, you haven't done anything wrong. I've just been thinking about a lot of things."
"Like what?" His brows furrowed as he mimicked her action, placing his hand on her cheek. "We're best friends, you can tell me anything."
"Kuroo.."
Without even realising it, they'd both inched closer to one another and were centimetres away from each others lips. They both knew what they were doing and neither one were stopping it. As their lips brushed against one another, Yukana's phone rang prompting her to abruptly pull away.
"Kenma, hey," she answered her phone and turned away from him. "I was just talking to coach, Kuroo stayed behind with me but we'll be back soon. Okay, bye." Inhaling sharply, she faced him again. "Kuroo, I—"
He didn't give her a chance to say another word as he crashed his lips onto hers. An action he'd been wanting to do for some time and if she'd pushed away, he would've ceased immediately but she didn't. In fact, she kissed him back with just as much vigour as he did, if not more. It was thrilling, being able to kiss someone to were attracted to and loved.
Yukana felt one of his hands rest on her waist whilst the other rested on her bosom. She pulled on his hair as she deepened the kiss, only parting from him for air. A light blush graced her cheeks when she noticed the line of saliva connecting their lips.
"Yu, I know you're going through some things and that you're trying to get over him and maybe I shouldn't have kissed you but I can't bring myself to regret it," he rested his forehead on hers. "I just want you to know how I felt. You don't have to act on it right away. I want you to take your time and be sure that you're choosing me."
"You're okay with staying friends for now... while I figure my feelings out?" She confirmed, biting on her lip.
"I am," Kuroo nodded. "More than anything, I want you to stay in my life."
A light scoff escaped her lips as she pushed him away jokingly, "you know, you're too smooth for your own good. I bet you say that to all the girls."
"You know I don't talk to girls, Yu." He deadpanned, flicking her forehead. "I don't see anyone else in that way anyways. I only feel this way for you. Only you. And you better remember that."
