ACE | Chapter Three
It was a strange morning, Jaku had woken up in a hospital. With monitors, IV's, and all the white technolgy stuff she didn't understand. It really put her on edge, she hated the hospital. She was in a hospital gown and still wondering where her stuff went. On the other hand, Aizawa probably took it back to the apartment.
She sat up and took notice of her right hand wrapped in gauze up to her wrist. Out of curosity, she started unwrapping them. Under the gauze, her hand had a giant second degree burn going from the web between her index and middle finger all the way down to her wrist. She traced it lightly with her finger.
She could still feel the faint burning sensation from her fight. Oh yeah, now she remembered. She was ambushed by that green haired guy. 'Oh! That's right, I was trying to give that guy back his quirk! Oh dear this is bad!'
She pushed herself to the edge of the bed then put her feet on the ground and slowly stood up. It felt as though she had to learn to walk again. She still hung on to the bed as her leg had stitches from her ankle to her knee, diagonally. And on the side of her thigh, she suffered another burn but didn't seem as severe as the one on her hand.
She furrowed her eyebrows, which kind of hurt when she did considering the stitches over her eyebrow. The door opened and the nurse walked in. "Oh? Walking already, are we?" He smiled and shut the door. Jaku narrowed her eyes and looked away. Remembering what Aizawa told her about nurses and doctors...
"They're just going to check you, they're not here to hurt you."
This went for a lot of things apparently. Could they just leave it at this?...she dreaded this. "How is that leg of yours doing?" Jaku shrugged, not breaking eye contact with the floor.
*THE NEXT DAY; THIRTEEN'S TRAINING SESSION*
Jaku dreaded going in, she'd have to get lectured again and she wasn't having it. And she couldn't help but feel like someone was watching her, ever since she walked in. She's here a lot, at U.A, so it could be anyone wandering the halls and happen to lay an eye on her. She's clearly not a student.
So she decided to finally look back to see, Jaku was almost horrified; she spotted a shadow just near the corner. She opened the door and went in, then she slammed and locked it.
Jaku let out a sigh. "Um," she yelped and whirled around, ready to punch someone but she had walked into the wrong room. A classroom, obviously preoccupied at the moment. "Ah! Sorry!" And she ran out as fast as possible.
'That's so embarrassing!' She thought as she slowed her pace and stuffed her hands in the pockets of her jeans. Then, there was that feeling again, that made her tense up. She clashed with someone else going around the corner, whosever forehead that was sure felt like hitting a rock.
"Ow! Sorry." Being the nice person she was, she picked up some papers they dropped. Then she stood before them, brushing some loose strands of hair and handed the guy his papers. 'Oh it's him.' The red and white haired guy from nearly a week ago.
He stared at her for a few seconds, she had hetrochromia eyes too, one gray and the other yellow. A burn scar from her jawline to her neck, it looked almost as bad as Shoto's. She waved the pages then he took them and she started down the hall. "Uh, thank you."
Shoto looked at his clenched fist, and opened it, a necklace, A kite shaped, london blue topaz pendant hanging onto a thin, black rope. The color was very alluring indeed. 'This could go for a lot of money.' He shook his head and turned around to find the girl.
Who was not too far. She disappeared around the corner, Shoto sighed. Great, now he had to chase her down.
He followed her around the corner but came to a stop when he spotted her having a conversation with Thirteen. "You need to do better if you're going to pass your redemtion test! It's a big deal right now! I believe you can pass the written exam but failing the practical isn't an option!"
Jaku furrowed her eyebrows and crossed her arms. "I'm giving it all I have..." Thirteen sighed and nearly face palmed. "Then why can't I help but feel like you're holding back?"
"I don't know-" - "you are! Jakushitsu,-"
"Don't use my fullname-"
"-You need to fight like your life is on the line! Like everyone elses life is depending on you!" It didn't seem like she quite believed it, as if heros never risked their lives, ever. Shoto became perplexed, forgetting why he was here in the first place.
"But my life is not on the line! They're only training exercises, what if I really mess up one day?!"
"One day, it will be. Have you ever even seen a hero in action?" Jaku became silent and slightly shook her head. It felt as though her presence had disappared, like Thirteen was the only person in the hallway. What was it? He saw her, but it felt like she wasn't really there.
"Come on, I'd like to show you something." Thirteen held her hand out, Jaku stared for a few seconds before taking her hand and they left.
Shoto nearly blew his cover by sighing, he looked at the necklace again. 'Oh alright, maybe I will follow her.'
Thirteen and Jaku left school campus, Shoto was unable to leave or else he'd get in trouble. He was interested too, but he shouldn't be there in the first place. So he left for class as he was already late, he hadn't even heard the bell ring, by the time he got back, class had already begun.
"Todoroki!" Midoriya waved as Shoto clenched his fist and turned as he approached Aizawa. "Sir," He started, unraveling the kite shaped necklace. "Oh, where'd you find this?" He took it in and examined it.
"Uh, on the ground." He slighly shrugged. "I thought it belonged to someone so...I thought I would give it to you." Shoto continued to his desk, and a question popped into Aizawa's head.
'Jaku, what are you doing?'
And so class continued.
*With Jaku And Thirteen*
'The city again?' If she were being honest, she was quite tired of seeing the city, it always happened to be the same neighborhood. Except Thirteen brung her to an area where sakura trees resided. It was a quite beautiful and calming area. Jaku could smell smoke thpugh, not only that it was quite stuffy.
"Thirteen, where are we? And why..." But she just stared off into the sky, never letting go of Jaku's hand. The smoke became thicker by the second. Thirteen suddenly flung her hand into the air, pointing at a building in front of her. Where even more smoke arose and polluted the area around.
"Wh-what is it?" Thirteen's silence scared her, she kept staring at that area as if she was waiting for something to happen. Within seconds, the top of the building exploded, now Jaku could see the other side, there was a fire, it looked like some people got caught in it.
Jaku started coughing, the smoke was now progressing around the area and into her lungs. "Thirteen! It-it isn't safe to be here!" Jaku failed to yank her arm away from Thirteens grip. Still staring at the chaos without a word.
The scene worsened when explosions began to destory the area and feed the fire, followed by screams but not a single sign of a hero. Jaku covered her mouth and nose with her sleeve. "Did you not hear me?! We have to leave-"
"Are you scared?" Thirteen asked, not taking her eyes off the hungry fire. "Wha-yes! I'm scared! We're gonna get hurt! You do not have to put us in danger to prove a point!" Jaku was still trying to desprately yank her arm away, tears of fear as she watched the people scatter while explosions chased them.
"I'm not surprised, you've never seen a hero a day in your life, of course you wouldn't know, hero's risk their lives every single day. And hero's in training have preprare for that, they have to preprare to save lives and injure themselves or worse while doing so."
"This is what I've been trying to teach you! You can't just run away when things get real!" Thirteen let go of her hand.
"But I won't force you to be a hero." She finally tore her eyes away and looked at Jaku, teary eyed with her eyes glued to the scene, her lip was quivering as tears streaming down her cheek. Oh no, Thirteen didn't mean to make her cry.
"Jaku--" she snatched her hand away after Thirteen touched her. She turned around, hugged herself and walked off. Shaking, teary eyed, quivering, sniffling, red faced, basically every symptom of crying a person could experience.
'Ah, god damn it!'
For anyone wondering, yes Jakushitsu does think in french (English too but we'll never know when) I just thought it would be easier.
