He woke up to a dark house and tightly shut windows.
Confused, Envy pushed himself up from his bed and turned towards the left side of the bed, the side he always got off the bed from, and found a note on the floor.
It was a torn piece of paper in Kindness' messy scrawl, a handwriting always recognizable and readable to him.
And it didn't say much.
Only a line with the ink smudged.
Meet me downstairs in the kitchen.
Even though Envy know the note was from Kindness—he recognized the way the As were written—he had doubt.
After all, they'd survived two wars built on trickery and deceit.
It's not uncommon to be suspicious.
Get a grip on yourself! he chided himself. The war is over. Calm down.
Sighing, he straightened up and pocketed the paper in his pajamas (it's his house, damn it, he's not going to change his clothes to look more presentable because he lived here) then opened his bedroom door to follow the note's instructions:
Go to the kitchen.
--
"Where is he?" Arbitrous muttered, hidden behind the fridge with Mischievous. Fraudulent was across the room, hiding in the laundry room.
Fraudulent tapped her glasses once, checking at Kindness who was sitting nervously on the kitchen countertop. "Well, at least Kindness is still there," she said with her skill.
The virtue? She knew nothing about the prank. She only knew that Arbitrous asked her to sit there.
Kindness, intrigued and too kind, obliged.
It's been fifteen minutes. Is this a prank on her?
She was about to call Arbitrous when a slightly disheveled Envy appeared from the staircase.
And saw her.
"Wh—"
"En—"
Kindness felt like she was being sucked to the side, towards the fridge, and she got pulled from her body into another body.
Right beside Arbitrous.
"Shh, love," he muttered assuringly. "We're pranking Envy. You're in Mischievous' body."
Gingerly, as much as she can, Kindness twisted her position so that she can examine the body she's temporarily stuck in.
"Does that mean Mischievous is... using my body?" Kindness whispered, peeking out from the gap between the two fridges.
"Yeah," Fraudulent's voice rang out in her head. "Don't worry, this is going to be funny."
Only half assured, Kindness nodded and went back to watching her rival.
--
"What are you doing here?" Envy asked, squinting a bit. He missed the way Kindness seemed to tilt a bit to the left against her will, then she righted herself again.
The virtue smirked, a look Envy has never seen on her face before.
She slid down from the counter, the scarf flying like long hair would.
"Waiting for you," she said sweetly.
This is not Kindness.
The thought stabbed him right through the chest like a spear, a sudden realization, but he's frozen.
He's frozen, mesmerized, enthralled, even, by the playful sparkle in her eyes and the way her white eyelashes caught light, making it glow silver, and the way the smirk danced on her peach-pink lips that slightly glistened under the morning sun on the kitchen's unclosed windows.
The first words out of his mouth weren't "Who are you?" or "Get out of my house!"
It's, "You're beautiful."
The three words spilled out of him before he knew what he was saying.
Not-Kindness giggled. "I'm honored you think I'm beautiful," she said in her trademark smiling expression, sincere, genuine, her blue eyes always shining with joy.
A small sound can be heard from the fridge, but he paid it no mind.
For a second, Envy can believe it's Kindness.
Then the second passed. He cleared his throat, then crossed his arms, cheeks still tinged pink.
"Who are you?" he asked as business-like as possible with red cheeks in pajamas.
--
Fraudulent silently observed, perched on top of a washing machine, laughing voice-lessly, knowing exactly what happened when Envy stared and Mischievous (in Kindness' body) kept the smirk, one hand on her (Kindness') cheek, the other around her stomach to support the other hand.
It looked very out of place on the usually meek virtue, but it was certainly funny.
She took a picture.
--
"You're beautiful." Envy blurted out.
Kindness, although in Mischievous' body, still felt like she was the one being complimented.
So, naturally, she choked on thin air and accidentally banged his (Mischievous') knee against the back of the refrigerator.
Arbitrous' hand immediately flied to his (as the body wasn't Kindness') knee, stopping all of his peeking activities to make sure she was okay and that she didn't make any more voices.
Mischievous noticed the sound, and lightly flipped her (Kindness') hair to signal to them.
Luckily, Envy didn't seem to notice the odd sound.
Sighing quietly, Arbitrous relaxed.
"You okay, sugar?" he asked quietly, glancing at Mischievous' body, the eyes wide and innocent.
She nodded, so he took his hand off her knee and continued watching.
--
Still smirking, Mischievous slowly walked closer to Envy, trying his best to walk in a body strange to him.
"I am," he said, in Kindness' dreamy voice, hands fiddling with her hair, "your best nightmare."
With ever syllable he said, he stepped closer to Envy until finally he was close enough to Envy that if he stepped closer, Kindness' face would be right underneath Envy's chin.
Inwardly, Mischievous thanked the builders of the house for making it easy to execute their plan.
Envy was by now tomato-red. "W-what-who a-are you-I—"
Before Envy could even say a complete sentence, Mischievous (in Kindness' body) had already slammed her right hand to the wall, effectively trapping the taller and older sin in a kabendon.
He then felt himself being sucked to his right, and surrendered.
Within a second he was back in his body, and he only had a split second to see Kindness back in her body.
...And that results in her falling towards Envy, which made the two fall to the floor in an awkward position.
"Good job, guys," Fraudulent said in their heads, the hint of a smile on her voice, "you can come out of your hiding places now."
The three sprang out of their hiding places simultaneously, shocking the tangled pair who aren't in any way succeeding in getting back on their feet.
"This must be your doing!" Envy yelled when he saw the three, immediately pushing Kindness into a sitting position so he can stand up and glare. "Which of you traded consciousnesses with Kindness?"
Mischievous smirked. "I did," he said. "I think I did a wonderful job."
Fraudulent copied his smirk, manipulating the air. Pictures of what just happened appeared in the air. "Memories," she grinned.
Kindness buried her face in her arms.
Envy said nothing, crossing his arms while glaring at the three, annoyance (and a bit of mirth) clear in his eyes.
"Well, I was actually wondering," Arbitrous said in order to break the silence that was slowly becoming awkward, "How did you act that well, Mischievous? It's like you actually liked Envy."
Mischievous stared at the camera like he was in The Office.
