when team danganronpa decided to take their killing games off the script and into real life, they were told that the only way to do that was to somehow make it so none of the participants were actually killed. taking inspiration from goodbye despair, they knew exactly how to deal with this.

hold a killing game in virtual reality.

that was how the games had gone on for the longest time, and it was how it had worked for the 53rd and last season. however, they were told that none of the participants were allowed to die as a result of the killing game- not that they had to come out unharmed.

it wasn't an intentional thing- but the participants who had 'died' during the game often came out hurt, or with scars to remind them of their experiences in the game. team danganronpa would have had to work even harder on the vr software if they wanted to make that happen, but unfortunately, their fans demanded new seasons as soon as possible. they couldn't afford to make those changes.

(y/c) had woken up a couple days ago, in the team danganronpa hospital that provided physical and mental rehabilitation. usually, the nurses said, the survivors woke up first, and then it went backwards from there- whoever had 'died' most recently would wake up next, and so on and so on. most everyone was awake, (y/c) heard, but they hadn't heard anything about akamatsu or amami, which hurt even more, since their room was right across the hall from the pianist's.

however, that night, out the doorway of their room, (y/c) saw nurses rushing in and out of her room. it was worrisome, but they knew the nurses were doing their job.

eventually, they overheard that she was in stable condition, and the nurses left, turning in for the night. however, (y/c) could hear faint crying from her room, muffled by her closed door. if they went to check on her, they might get caught, but (y/c) wanted to know if she was alright.
