like everybody else in the world, (y/c) had a red string tied around their little finger, linking them to their soulmate. not all soulmates necessarily had to be romantic, but most were. the only people that could see somebody's string were them and their soulmate that it happened to be connected to. some people met their soulmates pretty early on in their lives, and some had to wait decades to find theirs.

it was a frequent conversation topic— have you met your soulmate? when do you think you'll meet them? what do you think they're like? so, suffice to say, it was a pretty big deal to find your soulmate.

(y/c) was on their way home from school. they walked home, since their house wasn't far from school. the streets and sidewalks were fairly busy. there were a lot of conversations occurring around them, but most of them were indecipherable. a blonde girl about (y/c)'s age passed them, talking to what seemed like her friend. they would have thought nothing of it, except for the fact that (y/c) could see a red string tied to her little finger. following the thread to their own finger, they realized— she was their soulmate.
