SOFT!
part six — lab partners.
THE EYE CONTACT SHARED between fiji and jungkook was silent and awkward, but was cut short by an arm being tied around her waist.
"hey babygirl," a voice belonging to her favorite orange-haired boy said, as he pulled her tightly close to him by her waist. she could have sworn that in the corner of her eye, she saw a twinge of jealously flickering in jungkook's eyes as he watched the way the boy spoke to her.
"jimin," she greeted happily, ignoring the curious stare from jungkook and admiring the smile adorned on jimin's face that made just about every girl in university swoon.
the boy who's well-known for his orange hair, and smile that has the cliche effect of lighting up a room, had been a constant in fiji's life since sophomore year of high school. it all started when mr.hwang, the 10th year biology teacher, assigned lab partners in the beginning of the school year. every day jimin would ask fiji for a pencil in efforts to get her to talk to him, till one day she called him out on it.
"hey...could i borrow a pencil?" jimin whispered, settling into his usual seat next to fiji, minutes late to the class shrugging off the glare mr.hwang was giving him for being late, yet again.
fiji just stared at the boy giving him a look of pure irritation. "how many times are you going to ask me for a pencil?" she asked him, with a slight attitude and placed a pencil next to him. the same pencil she had just been using to doodle in her notebook rather than focusing on the lesson about the mitochondria being the power house of a cell.
"you're never prepared."
"actually," she could already hear the confidence in his unspoken words. "i just wanted an excuse to talk to you, even if it was for a minute." fiji felt conflicted, watching him as he took out a few pens and pencils out of his pocket and laid them on the desk as evidence.
since their days of endless study dates—as jimin liked to call them—both of their parents made comments about their mutual flirting like it was their job. there were countless times when the two of them overheard the adults speaking highly to one another about how adorable their children would be together, although they would always make it a point that their relationship was completely platonic.
"this is jungkook! he's in our statistics class!" taehyung excitedly introduced the person she thought she had already seen enough of that day, tearing her out of her thoughts.
"yes, kook and i were just talking about the party namjoon is throwing at the frat house this weekend," jimin added.
"kook?" fiji shook her head, and scoffed to herself at how jungkook managed to make friends with her friends. out of everyone in the school.
jimin squeezed her waist gently. "obviously if we're going, you're going."
if she wasn't sure what her plans were for the weekend before, then it was now apparent where she would be that friday. if you went to the university, you knew about kim namjoon and the annual parties he would throw at the fraternity. it's heard from everyone. everywhere on campus, from the dining halls, to the chemistry labs, people were heard hyping up the latest party.
fiji felt jungkook's eyes on her before he spoke up.
"yeah, if we're going, you're going." jungkook repeated after jimin, making fiji mentally roll her eyes.
of course.
